E3 was particularly busy for Nintendo, as the company revealed a number of games for the first time for Wii U — in particular — and 3DS. One that slipped us by was Lone Survivor, which is coming to the Wii U eShop in Q4.
In the madness of the event we missed this one in a downloadable release list — it didn't appear in the web-based equivalent — but it was indeed confirmed; a search has also revealed that some in our community spotted it in the forums. Developer Jasper Byrne made the game for PC and the ever busy Curve Studios — currently finishing off Stealth Inc 2 as a Wii U exclusive — is porting the title to Nintendo's home console.
Curve Studios ported the retro-styled horror title to PS3 and PS Vita in 2013, and our colleagues at Push Square awarded it 8/10 in their review. That was a Director's Cut on the Sony hardware and has no such extended name in the Nintendo listing, though we hope all enhancements and content will come across to Wii U.
A lengthy trailer for the title is below — are you interested in this one?

That's a quite well-made trailer, from the atmosphere to the transitions to the soundtrack. I'm officially curious.
EDIT: I tracked down the gorgeous background music and here it is, if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckC7ilWwH50
Sole Survivior, cursed with second sight
"Bwaaawm-Bwaaaawm"
Had this game on my PC for a couple of years, but never really played it.
Also own it on my PS3 and PSV through PS+, I should really get around to it. Seems pretty hard from what little I've played.
Looks like my kind of game!
I've played a little of it on my PS Vita and it is great but difficult. The atmosphere the game generates as well is superb, even with its retro graphics (not that retro is a bad thing, because it isn't)...
Got it for my Vita. It's an excellent game. Definitely worth playing if it looks like something you'd like.
Also got this for vita, one of the best games I've played on it.. Definitely worth it
When it gets here, count me in! It would be cool on 3DS as well.
I already got the Platinum for this game, but I absolutely recommend this game. With the Wii U gamepad, it feels like a more personal experience.
I watched this some time ago, and although I'm not really a fan of survival games, this one has a lot of atmosphere. And some of the situations are really creepy!
@ricklongo wow, the first thing I was going to post was going to be a request from someone for the name of the soundtrack to the trailer; good job, thanks!
By all accounts this is a fun game, but I have this in my Steam cue thanks to an Indie Humble Bundle. Sadly it is just another title in my pile of shame, and has yet to be even started. Glad to hear that the Wii U is getting it, now they just need to get more like it.
This is a really well made game for its price, and I highly recommend it. I had a lot of fun with the PC version.
It is very atmospheric, and gives you options of how you want to approach situations. You can get out a gun and shoot things, but not often due to limited ammo. Survival is strongly pushed (find food, supplies, etc), but it also scales the difficulty a bit (iirc) based on how well you do.
Also - it's weird. Very weird. But in an awesome way.
If I didn't have the PC version I'd buy it on Wii U. A portable 3DS version however? Sign me up for that.
Wow this game is coming to the eshop that's awesome i have it for the PC.But i would buy it again to play it on my wiiu or 3ds or maybe on both.
Looks interesting.
I saw Markiplier play this... but I didn't know it was by Curve Studios. I can see it though. The artstyle is very similar to their Stealth series.
"i recommend the coffee"
really?
heres what i "recommend"
kickstarter guys:
start making trailers that make sense. show some real game footage and stop depending on these outlandish and random music pieces to get people throwing money at you.
@rp17 Yeah I also saw him play it.
@ogo79 Or buy the game for PC and try it out, cause this game been out for a long time. And the trailer did showed some gameplay or find more info about this game before you criticize it.
It's fun. I bought it near full price on Steam and don't regret it. The game is creepy and engaging for a side-scroller. It does a lot with pixel graphics, creepy music, and a beautifully realized atmosphere.
just beaten it on the Vita, I agree with our sister Push Square and gave it a 8/10.
It's a creepy, sometimes difficult game, with some atmosphere and music that reminded me Silent Hill. Give it a try.
more pixels?
@midnafanboy
i know the games been out, and my opinion still stands. i dont go for that "dont criticize" stuff
I've had this on my PC since it launched on Steam last year. It's pretty great!
I'd get it
If it's good, I'll get the game.
Got it for PS Vita already, might get it for Wii U at a sale or so. Great game, really, just a few weird choices (like sideways gameplay perspective with a top-down map... Really easy to get lost.)
But I love survival horror, and this game gets most aspects of the genre more right than most big titles in the genre do these days. Here's hoping for Project Zero / Fatal Frame to be announced for the rest of the world soon... Adding number 4 for Wii updated in the package. Metroid Prime Trilogy / Bayonetta 2 style.
We know you can do it Nintendo.
Good game. Played it ages ago, since it was a free add-on to one of the Humble Bundles ... baacckkk in the day.
Got it as part of PS+ on Vita too. Better late than never I guess.
Got it for my PS3 free from the PS+ and here's the best description for it: Silent Hill 1 (which is my favourite one in the series) in 2D. Might buy it if they enhance the gameplay experience on the gamepad.
Wii U eShop, Wii U eShop, Wii U eShop....but it's never Wii U retail.
I really enjoyed this game for the PC but I can't see myself buying it again unless there is a heap of new content. I do suggest anyone who hasn't played it, give it a shot. Especially if you're a fan of survival horror.
I skipped out on the Sony versions but definitely getting the Wii U version. Very cool.
Cool, maybe I'll check it out. It just bugs me a bit that these games arrive so late. They've been on other platforms for ages and are usually quite cheap already or part of Humble Bundles and there we are paying overprice just to play it on this specific platform. Like always, I'll wait for discount.
What is with the s*** eating grin he's got on the whole time?
Pretty Boring
@DBPirate IKR
@Assassinated Lol Omg it's a surgical mask
I got this game on PS+ PS3 for 3 months but never beat it (its pretty hard, but FUN, but... damn map is terrible)
But then my suscription ran off and now i cant play it anymore, i'm SO getting this game on Wii U
@Assassinated Ha it does look like a grin in first glance. But nah it's a surgical mask.
This one is a really great game, I've played it so far on PC and also on PS3. Really nice to see it get released on Wii U as well!
@Smooty It looks like it ends above his chin, rather than covering it though. I thought that it might be a mask, but it didn't make sense to show the chin under it.
the game looks pretty interesting hmm..
So getting this game. I've been wanting it on a console for like forever.
Lone Survivor is a wonderfully atmospheric retro-enthused survival horror title, and entirely worth double-dipping for — I enjoyed the hell out of it on Vita last year — so come Q4, it'll have a home on my GamePad too (kind of off-topic, but: come on Nintendo, give us folders already!).
Curve's continued Wii U support is just awesome. Hey, here's hoping Mike Bithell's, Curve-published, Thomas Was Alone is also U-bound. Fingers crossed.
I have this on PC, but have not ever played it, it was a Bundle game. still not interested in this one.
If it's anything like Yume Nikki then a definite buy for me.
If Bastard is an ok term now for Nintendo then they should change it back to Stealth Bastard 2 (At least then people will know it actually is a sequel to that which I didn't).
Yea, this is last year old. i already had this, wont be double dipping. Nintendo needs to release this stuff quicker than Sony. Otherwise they will be left in the dark.
