Re: Feature: NES Creator Masayuki Uemura On Building The Console That Made Nintendo A Household Name

The Nes was unbelievably great in being competitive even after it had gone clearly obsolete (which happened only after a couple of years it shipped, at the hand of the Sega Master System).

What kept it alive was the great collection of games it could run. Those games were so amazing that they made it possible for the Nes to keep on being sold for a long while even after the Snes was already out.

Anyway no, I wouldn't buy it today, especially because most of the interesting games it could run were ported either to the snes or the gba.

Re: Random: Sega Just Issued A Patch Which Protects Your Sensitive Eyes From Vocaloid Panties

@SwitchForce no, I wasn't being ironic. Anyway, I'm into anime/manga enough to know there are several kinds, but not all of them can be considered acceptable in the West. Afterall, with all due respect, we're talking about a country that still has some record numbers for harassments on public transport.
I don't really know if those ads/magazines you're talking about are diffused outside Japan, I've personally never seen them, but if they exist then I agree on censoring them too, together with risky games.

@SwitchForce

"These are the very hypocrites that if you look at their own lives/lifestyle would be very different from the facade they show us everyday."

For instance?

"Do people who think buyers of such games can't think for themselves nowdays."

That depends on the buyer. There are too many out there to believe they're all sane.
I remember growing up watching some japanese cartoons in which some characters peeked at females' panties, but I was a child and back then I didn't fully understand the meaning of those actions. Now it would feel weird to know that an adult seeks for that kind of contents. Really weird.

Re: Production Of The Animal Crossing Switch Bundle Has Been Affected By The Coronavirus

@Bermanator you could do that for the initial generations, then those who earn enough would free themselves, and since their population would inevitably end up on mixing with yours, you or your kids would risk to be enslaved if you ever get into debt.
It's funny how those who invoke prevarication never think it could turn against themselves.

@konbinilife Imagine if they could split those raises among all the workers instead. Do you think their gain would be relevant?

Re: Video: The Limited Edition Game That Costs More Than A Nintendo Switch

Gamesurfer

I've never seen a stamp or a painting or a coin or even a videogame that were purposely made "for collectors" that actually ended up in somebody's real collection.

Unfortunately they'll keep on making silly "collector's editions" from scratch as long as they find paying people. The good part is that nobody's required to buy them.

Re: Sonic Movie Speeds Towards $65 Million In Its North American Opening Weekend

Gamesurfer

I don't get all this surprise. A movie can be silly and for kids but still fun, fun and for kids but smart (Shrek), silly but for adults (either fun or not, there are endless examples) etc...

Anyway, I don't expect a movie based off a videogame to be smart, so I hope it's fun at least. But I still wouldn't call it "a must-see" though, as somebody defined it on this website (LOL), especially as the fans of this character must be all around their forties.

And, before somebody gets offended for whatever reason that's beyond my understanding, watching a silly movie has never made anybody silly, at least not that alone.

Re: Round Up: The Sonic Movie Reviews Are In, And They Don't Make For Pretty Reading

Gamesurfer

This has been a very clever marketing operation. They started with an initial character design that purposely made people puke, then redesigned it at the obvious people's reaction, making them believe they "listened" (L O L).
So now people who watch it have the illusion that they had a weight in the making.

At the end, those who watch it will see exactly what they want to see, as always.

But it's really yet another silly movie about a videogame, which should be enough of a detail to judge it. I might decide to watch it if I ever get so bored that I don't know how to spend a couple of hours. But it won't happen at a cinema though.

Re: Want One Of These Lovely Final Fantasy VII Watches? That'll Be $2,500 Please

Gamesurfer

They both look good but I'd never buy the black one, as they tend to lose tint at the each unavoidable tiny scratch.

@Chibi_Manny there are very precise reasons why some automatic (=that do not need a battery) watches cost that much, most are hand made and certified, and made with particular material, and I'm just talking about the very basic ones.
If you find this watch too expensive, then take a look at the ones by Credor that go for around $400000.
What's the point of owning them? Some people consider them an investment, some other just want to display their status, some believe that owning one will make them happier or at least look cooler, and so on. It's really like buying a supercar or a huge house: do you really need them? No, you don't. But people keep on buying them.

@frogopus that's a good point, I'd feel a bit embarrassed to display the logo of a videogame in some environments. The more subtle, the better.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains "Embarrassing" Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

@Blizzia believe me, I do share your feelings, but I'm 100% sure that's the way it works. I saw it, I felt it on my skin, and although it sucks, it's totally real.

About taxes, I still have to try the feeling of living somewhere people are happy to pay taxes but anyway well, if it isn't evaders' fault, then it must your government's lol

@Dr_Corndog try what? Seriously, this is getting really childish, and I'm in my 40s, so go call kid someone else. Still, two replies and no argumentations whatsoever anyway.

@mystman12
I hope your comment is ironic. Indie developers, youtube creators, twitch streamers, authors and artists get paid only when somebody wants to pay them, so those are totally wrong examples. You might be misled by the fact that some sportsmen are billionaire but, as I said very clearly, most sportsmen are poor and those who are rich got so because they are paid by big entertainment companies. They don't get paid because they are sportsmen, they get paid because they entertain (paying) fat people who pass their sorry lives on some couch.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains "Embarrassing" Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Gamesurfer

@Dr_Corndog uhhh now it's clear what you meant, that totally made me change my mind. You meant exactly nothing, thank you for clarifying.

@Blizzia err mate, I do understand the bitterness of finding out that sometimes investing somewhere doesn't pay back, but it's really something that happens everyday. A lot of people end up on doing jobs they didn't study for.

It definitely DOES work that way everywhere in the world, although you might find it unfair.

As for public sanity getting wrecked, it happens because that's supposed to be paid by your government. If nobody wants to pay taxes, that's how it ends.
On the opposite side, why doesn't people want to pay taxes? Because they don't see any benefit. On both sides nobody does anything for free.

Re: Nintendo's President Explains Embarrassing Lack Of Financial Support For Smash Bros. eSports

Judging by the downvotes, it looks like some people are just allergic to getting a real job, and would rather enjoy living in dreamland.

@Dr_Corndog dude, you have no idea what a professional athlete has to do, most times for a very little wage. It isn't just about kicking a ball, that's a totally different thing and it's called entertainment, people there get paid for that. Get a clue.
