I am reading that the games are below average by today’s standards. If you compare Gex 2 to Mario Odyssey, even a 2/10 is a stretch. How does it score 7/10?
Both my JoyCons have extreme drift. I already performed the carton mod but it keeps coming back. So I just ordered these and hope it will fix it for good! Thanks for sharing.
@EliJapan Unfortunately, no. But I noticed I have other games crashing now as well. I think my Switch is getting old… So I think this might not necessarily be due to Nier Automata.
Edit: Might not be an issue from the game. Original comment below.
I'm very sad to experience a game-breaking bug. Right after defeating a major boss (2B @ lvl 29), the screen goes black and won't load whatever is coming next. I'm completely frustrated, reload and defeated him again, but the game will just go black and that's it. So I basically paid full price for a lengthy demo.
Graphically, the washed out dynamics, low resolution and frame rate dips are annoying, but even more so the extremely compressed and flat audio. From an audio-visual perspective, this game is not fun on a good home system.
Gameplay wise, I would have loved to explore the world and side quests some more, and I was told the story gets really interesting later on. But, alas, the game is unplayable for me due to the bug.
Some of the devs worked on the WipEout franchise previously, if I remember correctly. Too bad the first one had terrible performance issues on Switch. Resolution so low it was unplayable.
I’m pretty sure the leakers signed an NDA and it was part of their business relation. They would not have had the opportunity to write the strategy guide if these conditions weren’t met in the first place.
They deliberately breached that contract for personal “profit” (internet fame?). If you take the mediocre game out of the picture, this is a serious violation.
I accidentally stumbled past that place October 2019. I was on holiday in Kyoto and passed this place at night when I was walking back to my guest house after having dined at a great sushi locale.
It was totally by chance and I only noticed it because it was the only house that didn’t have lights. I took a closer look and it said Nintendo in Japanese. Google Maps was quick to inform me about the history and the importance of this completely empty building.
I thought what a shame it is to keep it empty and not even to turn it into a museum. Glad something is now happening with it.
25% is useless. Only very few games are polished to use 90% of the available performance, most are around 80% so no developer would even bother to optimize for another 25%. Only games I could see profit from that are Nintendo games and the few games that are obviously limited (Doom, Witcher).
By far the best 2D Mario ever! SMB and SM3 are all the retro fix one needs. 16B Mario is still the best, while NSMB and 3DW are a huge improvement over U Deluxe. And this is not even accounting for the endless online content.
This is a great game, absolutely fabulous and worthy of any collection. The Switch should be the ultimate platform as it feels great when playing in handheld. But IMO there are two points that bar the game from the perfect score: 1. Some story-driven dialogues can’t be forwarded and take too long. They can be skipped completely, but the fixed pace is very slow. 2. The audio is sadly too compressed. The soundtrack is stunning but if you have a decent stereo setup or high-quality headphones, the artifacts from the encoded and compressed audio are far too audible to ignore. This is such a bummer that I would recommend the PS3 version over this one.
Back when this game was originally released, I was totally into RPGs. But even back then, this game turned me off. It is perhaps the cringiest triple A RPG yet. I never understood the hype and this port is just a quick cash grab.
FIFA 18 was a huge letdown yet it sold surprisingly well. How anyone at EA's management could decide that they would release another half-assed port for Switch this year is beyond me.
They didn't even try. Getting the full experience (atmosphere) on the Switch has nothing to do with CPU limitation.
As I'm concerned, they can blame whatever for their poor sales and play the victim. I don't mind if EA takes their loot boxes elsewhere. 1% is still too much for the disrespect they are showing to the Switch community.
This IS NOT news! And it's not an article that is worth stealing from other sites. Eurogamer or Kotaku, not sure who came up with this nonsense first, but we don't need to see it a third time. Write your own articles, you lazy people!
This is a very good game! It is addicting as hell. I finished it in two days, though I'm not sure how many hours I actually played (maybe 6 to 8 hours?). The game keeps on going and there is so much to discover, most of it by accident. I beat the game at around 80 %. I know there is more to do, but for getting 100% I think it will take a lot more time.
Visuals are cute, I'm not a fan of the style but I liked the color palette. The audio is superb, the recording is very spacious. It adds a lot to the atmosphere (if you use good headphones). The final boss music is awesome! The game crashed on me once and threw me back to the home screen. Two times the loading took very long. Also, the audio very rarely cuts out altogether. Nothing game breaking, though, but I do expect a patch in the future.
Fun game, highly recommended! It didn't quite push me like Hollow Knight to get 100%, but I had just as much trouble putting it aside. I will definitely revisit this game in a few months (after patches, maybe added content) and go for the real ending.
@ReaderRagfish The Dragon Quest tension is growing bigger. The only way to fix it is when they absolutely floor us with a massive announcement!
1. Dragon Quest Heroes I & II with technical improvements coming to the West announcement
2. Dragon Quest Builders 2 release
3. Dragon Quest XI footage
4. Dragon Quest VIII HD remaster (based on 3DS version)
5. Dragon Quest IX HD remaster
Something like that. I wouldn't rule it out. But it seems Nintendo + Square want to focus on Final Fantasy for now.
But I don't know, I bought most of the FF games on PSN (and iOS) already, I don't think I want to pay hundreds of Euros again...
This version has very poor audio quality. The audio is compressed to 128kbps mp3 or similar. The artifacts are clearly audible. This is a huge shame because the sound is important for the atmosphere and the soundtrack is amazing. However, as is, I cannot accept the Switch port as the definitive version. I much rather play on PS3 again...
@OorWullie Why did you use multiple accounts? I only have one account and I change the region in My Nintendo to swap eShops. Games that I bought from South Africa or Russia can be re-downloaded from my normal account.
Thank you to @Krull for recommending this to me. I agree with this line of the review in particular: "Cosmic Star Heroine - a game that pays a sizeable tribute to JRPGs of the past without getting bogged down in the grind and repetition"
I'll definitely check out the Hollow Knight DLC. Though I beat the main game with 101%, there are still some side quests I skipped and I didn't even manage to get all the health upgrades. I didn't bother with the Grimm Troupe content (except for the charms) because I thought the main game was challenging enough. I fear Godmaster will whip my butt until I cry.
I also bought Captain Toad last week. I wanted to skip it, but after completing the Crash Bandicoot trilogy with 100% each, I needed a spontaneous purchase.
I am slowly getting the hang of the DOOM controls, finally. So I load that up every once in a while. The technical performance really turns me off, though. I am playing in handheld and it doesn't feel like a steady 30 fps at all and the audio is far too compressed. I am hoping DOOM Eternal will perform better as the Switch port was considered throughout the whole development.
I just bought the physical recently. I have just a few gems remaining but got all three titles up to 90 %.
I think they made the first one easier. If I remember correctly, you only had one chance at a bonus stage and/or could only save the game after completing it successfully. Damn, the stress they put on us pre-teens back then...
CB2 is the best and Crash at its peak. CB3 is crap and the did all the mistakes Hollywood does with a 2nd sequel. Just put more quantity and forget about what made the franchise good. The racing, the flying, the shooting, ... blergh.
Still happy I got this trilogy and I think the port is fantastic.

I’m 34 years old. I was deep into the scene of FPS games when I was younger. I remember Cliffy B. as creating some of the best maps for Unreal (Tournament), some in his free time. At some point I even chatted with him.
He’s like the only name I can remember from back then. It is amazing to see how successful he has become. His inspiration comes too late, though, I have chosen a very different career path, lol.
This game is a masterpiece! Platforming and combat is so tight, it almost puts Shovel Knight to shame. But what makes it the best Indie experience, in my opinion, is the freedom and exploration similar to Breath of the Wild. Of course you don't have these large and expansive areas, but the labyrinth is complex and every path hides a secret. The NPCs are rare but have great personality. The more you play, the more you understand what the story is about yet it doesn't bore you with long texts or forced cutscenes. Minimalism that boosts excitement. Based on the screenshots, I thought this game won't be my style. But it looks so much better in movement! Don't make the same mistake as I did! This is a must-have and it should be a crime to sell it as low as 15 €!
@LUIGITORNADO That was my opinion too until I played it. I didn’t like the visuals from screenshots and even YT videos at all... but I have now turned. I am in love with this game! Controls are superb (playing with Joy-Cons) and atmosphere is great.
Looking at the prices, Crash Bandicoot is the most attractive title for me right now. I will probably get the Sonic Mania Plus add-on because I never really got into Sonic Mania and I hope this could pull me back in. Octopath definitely has my attention, but in the end the pacing will matter a lot and Square-Enix games can get a bit draggy. I will wait for reviews and probably a price drop too. Look at this list, I have like 5 unfinished titles on my Switch right now. And I'm already considering to buy another 4...
@MFD Art style as in bright and colorful. It's a presentation that feels home on a Nintendo platform and probably has a better chance for support and advertisement than say Wolfenstein.
I didn't think I would have issues with the graphics, but the experience is really not that smooth. I think it is way too blurry and I keep losing focus. The motion aim controls don't work as well as I hoped and even after a lot of practice I just stick to joysticks. I am mostly disappointed by the poor audio quality, however. This is a game that takes its energy from the atmosphere and adrenaline. The audio is extremely compressed which makes it more annoying than anything else.
Not such a surprising list, actually. Fortnite was obvious as it runs well on mobiles already and the art style fits well on Switch.
Everybody was hoping for DBZ and sales have gone downhill rapidly, so it makes sense for them to port to Switch, especially if they want to stay in E-Sports.
So they claim the resolution doesn't drop as low as often? That's good I guess (if confirmed by users). But I was hoping for something else. Digital Foundry mentioned "bad frame pacing", where every frame of the 30fps has varying length on 60 Hz displays. It should be easy to fix.
@rjejr You are introduced to new mechanics and materials in every chapter. The environment changes, but following chapters ask you to remember what you learnt in the previous ones. The game will not explain to you how to do healing items again, so it's not really starting all over.
But yeah, it would have been a little bit better if all the chapters were in the same world/ map and accessible via a portal. However, you could just load your save state of that chapter if you wish to continue expanding the village.
Overcooked is awesome!! Most co-op fun I had with my girlfriend so far. It’s available on eShop for a while now, I guess the date is for physical.
I also pre-loaded Dragon Quest Builders. People are speedrunning the game in something around 6 hours, which looks like a great challenge! But the game is just as good for relaxing moments and getting creative with architecture.
I’m on the fence with Bayonetta 2. I will probably wait for Bayonetta 3 instead, because I don’t think I’m dedicated enough to play more than one of the games in the series.
