Re: Feature: It's Time to Vote for Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year Awards

Fred13

I voted. Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 Xenoblade 2 and (probably the only vote it'll get) NBA 2K18 in that order. BOTW is the most fun I've ever had with a Zelda game, Splatoon 2 is so much better than the original, I'm still too early in Xenoblade to compare it to the original (but the original is my personal game of all time) and NBA 2K18 My Career is just so enthralling.

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th November (North America)

@holygeez03 There is...Xenoblade Chronicles 2!!!
The direct sequel to my all time favorite game!
When I was watching the Nintendo Switch launch event back in January I was trying to decide if I should buy 1. When they announced Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I turned to my wife and told her I was buying a Switch at launch because of this game.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

Fred13

@jakemills91 I'd say you should absolutely play the original. Although I don't think it matters which you play first. I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles X and put about 70 hours into it (although I never finished it), but the original Xenoblade Chronicles is my all time favorite game and the further I got in it the more I couldn't put it down until I beat it. I then bought it on 3DS (a few years later) and played with my son who was finally old enough to join me on an epic quest.

I'm super excited that Xenoblade 2 is similar to the original!!! I pre-ordered this as soon as it was an option.

Re: Nintendo Scoops Plenty of Nominations for The Game Awards

Fred13

Too bad Xenoblade Chronicles 2 wasn't out in time. We don't yet know how good it will be and so it has legitimately zero chance to win. I liked X a lot, but Breath of the Wild is only my second favorite all time game. Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii is my all time favorite game which is why it's too bad these nominations were made before the actual end of the year. I'm hoping somehow 2 will be better than X and the original.

Re: Nintendo Scoops Plenty of Nominations for The Game Awards

Fred13

I’m hoping you guys with more diverse experience can help me. I don’t own a PS4 or an XBONE and I don’t play games on my PC. I just play on my Switch. To me it seems like a no brainer that Zelda will get game of the year with a chance that it could be Mario, but am I wrong? Is there a legitimate chance that it will be one of those other games?

Re: Feature: 13AM Games on Runbow for Switch and Its Hopes for the Future

Fred13

We had some good fun with this on Wii U, but since I already own it, my willingness to purchase it again will depend on the pricetag for the Switch.
It's too bad Nintendo and/or 13AM games won't have the eShop recognize that my NNID owns Runbow (even paid full price) and give a significant discount.
At half price many people would double dip.
Think about upgrading VC games from Wii to Wii U for $1-3. If it was a game I liked at all I did the upgrade.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Gets Expansion Pass and Surprise Breath of the Wild Crossover

Fred13

My normal response to DLC is, "I'll play through the game, if I finish and I want more then I'll be more than happy to buy it. If I finish and feel satisfied then I'll leave it alone and save my money."
With Mario Kart 8, I wanted more and bought the DLC, with Smash Bros for Wii U, I was satisfied and didn't buy any. With Breath of the Wild I conquered it and wanted more story (as soon as it releases I'll buy it).
However, the original Xenoblade Chronicles is my all time favorite game and watching that Nintendo Direct this morning I got more of an original Xenoblade Chronicles vibe than I did a Xenoblade X vibe so I just may break my rule and buy it day 1 this time.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Targets an "Extra Nintendo Twist" for the Switch Online Service

Fred13

@Dysnomia ???
I'm not sure what you're talking about.
I have been getting it free (see Wii U and Switch current online price)
Plus I never said I wasn't willing to pay for it. I'm just not sure I'll be willing to pay for it 3 times (I currently own 3 switches) so that we can play 1 game (Splatoon 2) online.
I understand what's actually going on here, I understand that it costs money to run the servers I'm ok with them charging. I'm just not sure if I'm willing to pay 3X subscription when we only play 1 game online. When they actually detail out any and all benefits of the subscription I'll decide if I'm willing to pay for 1 subscription, but it's hard to imagine being wiling to pay for 3 unless they do some kind of family plan (which I'm assuming they won't)
That was the point I was trying to make.

Re: Octodad: Dadliest Catch is Inked In for a Switch Release

Fred13

@Blue_Blur @thesilverbrick @BezBot @BezBot @sketchturner @daveh30 @AG_Awesome @justin233 I've never played it, but the vibe I get is something similar to Snake Pass in that it has vary different and more complex controls to manage. Is that correct?
What was wrong with the Wii U version?
Should I wait until reviews surface to make sure this version doesn't have the same problems the Wii U one did?

Re: Poll: Which is the Best Super Mario Game?

Fred13

@leo13 @Tyranexx @Matthew010
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thought 3D Land was the best one.
@leo13 I also wanted Super Luigi for the best 2D game. I LOVED that you had to rush through challenging levels.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Targets an "Extra Nintendo Twist" for the Switch Online Service

Fred13

@Masurao No, you misunderstood. I NEVER said I can't afford $60 for the online subscription. But just because I can afford something doesn't mean I'll buy it. If I don't think I'll get my money's worth then I won't touch it. I felt I'd get my money's worth for the 2nd and 3rd Switch and so far I have we play 3 player Spatoon all the time. However, eventually we'll get tired of playing that game and my track record says we don't really play games online (didn't much on Wii or PS3 or Wii U so why should I expect that to change now) so unless they have more built into the subscription to help me justify paying for several then I won't be willing to pay for several.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Targets an "Extra Nintendo Twist" for the Switch Online Service

Fred13

@Heavyarms55 @subpopz @Wexter I understand your point. I'm hoping they offer a family plan, but I'm not at all optimistic about it because they don't offer a family plan that would allow all 3 switches to play the games I downloaded digitally (the reason I started buying physical after we got the second Switch) so why would they change when they introduce the online subscription.
I also understand that Playstation and Xbox users have been paying this for a long time, but you have to understand that in my family we don't play online much. With the Wii U Splatoon was the only game that got played online and with Switch it's been 99% Splatoon 2 (with a tiny bit of Mario Kart Battle). So it's hard to justify paying a subscription so that we can play 1 game online. then I learned $20/year so I bought Splatoon and we had too much fun and bought a second Switch and had even more fun and bought a 3rd and it's been GREAT, but again paying 3 times so that we can play 1 game just isn't exciting.

Long story short...we're getting in as much as we can now, while also hoping for the best. (I was very relieved when I learned it got bumped from Holiday 2017 to 2018)

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Targets an "Extra Nintendo Twist" for the Switch Online Service

Fred13

@Heavyarms55 I'll complain about 1 thing right now. We have 3 switches (my wife and daughter and I frequently play Splatoon together). I've never paid for online service and suddenly I'm going to have to buy 3 subscriptions.
When the come out with the list of benefits/features that come with the subscription I'll be seriously considering selling 1 or 2 of the consoles. We'll see.

Re: Nintendo Switch v4.0.0 Update Brought Surprise GameCube Controller Adapter Support

Fred13

@UmbreonsPapa You sound just like all the crazy people that tell me that "Back to the Future" is a Great movie.
It's a terrible movie and the N64 controller (although I have A LOT of nostalgia tied to it) was a terrible controller.
(Yes I realize that now I'm going to get a bunch of people responding to me telling me that Back to the Future is amazing, but it's not you're just nostalgic for it)

Re: Nintendo Switch v4.0.0 Update Brought Surprise GameCube Controller Adapter Support

Fred13

@doomgc @BezBot @Shufty @Shufty
I have the 3rd party Mayflash adapter and I tried this out last night. Played some Breath of the Wild and some NBA 2K18 with my Gamecube controller.
It took my switch a second to recognize it (maybe because I have a 3rd party adapter (I would have bought the Nintendo one, but I couldn’t find one).
I plugged it in and pulled up the controller settings page and pushed L and R on the Gamecube controller over and over, but nothing happened. Then I pushed them on my Switch Pro Controller and it pulled up and I pushed them again on my Gamecube Controller and that time it worked.
I wanted the Gamecube controller to be the 1st player so I got out of that menu and then back in and this time the first time I pushed L and R it registered correctly. Then it worked just fine with Zelda and NBA 2K.

Re: Snake Pass Is Half Off on the North American eShop

Fred13

I bought this game during the last sale for $15. I personally enjoy playing a wide variety of styled games so for me it was enjoyable mostly because it's SO DIFFERENT from anything else I've ever played. Surprisingly, it's one of the few games my wife enjoyed enough to conquer (she'll play games with me, but the only game she normally plays when I'm not around is Splatoon 2)
