Back when the PS4 was doing the rounds in its pre-launch tour, Octodad: Dadliest Catch was one of the games being showcased as an Indie release for the console at expos (though it arrived on PC first of all). It was actually a sequel, and certainly earned plenty of plaudits when it arrived. It eventually made its way to Wii U but, unfortunately, it wasn't a perfect port.
The game's now going to have another shot on Nintendo hardware, with developer Young Horses confirming that it's heading to the Switch on 9th November in both North America and Europe - the US price will be $14.99USD. The developer is even running a contest where a lucky winner will get a SNES Mini.
We're looking forward to taking this tricky but well-known title for a spin on the Switch; have you inked in its release date on your calendar?

I hope this port ends up better than the Wii U one (from what I’ve read). I never bought it so glad I waited as I’ve always been interested.
I liked the Wii U version but I’m guessing it won’t be much different. ☹️
IDk
I enjoyed this one on PS4, and to a slightly lesser extent on the Vita (controls weren't well suited to Vita, with its lack of triggers...). I won't be buying it again, but interested to see how it turns out on Switch. This could be one that suffers with the lack of analogue triggers. Was an enjoyable game on PS4, though.
i still don't know what all the fuss is about regarding that normal suburban dad.
The WiiU version did get patched to run much better. My kids absolutely love the game and we've played it co-op countless times. It's kind of a big deal in our house.
Already have on PC and Wii U and really don't feel a need to play this a third time.
I already have it on Wii U but I never managed to finish it. I’m not going to spend money on it again. If I feel like completing it, I’ll go back to my old console. It doesn’t exactly strike me as a game with tons of replay value.
I got the game not too long ago on the Wii U and loved it. I won't be buying it again, but it's nice to see it get a Switch release. It's a great game, I highly recommend it!
@Blue_Blur @thesilverbrick @BezBot @BezBot @sketchturner @daveh30 @AG_Awesome @justin233 I've never played it, but the vibe I get is something similar to Snake Pass in that it has vary different and more complex controls to manage. Is that correct?
What was wrong with the Wii U version?
Should I wait until reviews surface to make sure this version doesn't have the same problems the Wii U one did?
Those days of bugger all Wiiware games and Wii U eShop games other then shovelware feel like a distant memory on Switch....and we havent even had the Virtual Console yet! XD
@Fred13 The Wii U one I believe just had less items in the game to interact with than the other versions. Not a big deal really, however not worth double dipping for the switch version if it’s exactly the same. If you liked the unique control of snake pass you’d probably appreciate octodad. It’s a silly game designed around frustrating controls. I enjoyed it and it’s priced pretty fairly if you like that sort of game. Check some YouTube vids of gameplay, it’s more fun than they’ll make the game seem but it’ll still give you an idea of what you’re getting into . I enjoyed the mission where I had to make breakfast and was tossing kitchen utensils all over the place. Lol.
@Fred13 Yes the controls are different like snake pass. Im not quite sure what was different with the wiiu version because it was the only one I played, but its definitely worth picking up in my mind. It was a funny blast and even funnier when played co op.
@Fred13 I haven't played Snake Pass, but from what gameplay I've seen, it reminds me a lot of Octodad. The controls are terrible on purpose, and that's what makes it fun! The story takes more than a few hours to complete, plus there are achievements and collectibles if you want to go for 100% completion. Definitely worth getting in my opinion. I'm not exactly sure what was wrong with the Wii U version, but when I got it around a year ago, it worked fine; I assume the Switch version will be fine, as well.
Wonder if this normal dad simulator will have a stable framerate this time
@Fred13 I had no problem with the Wii U version at all. The reason I have both is because I had the PC one first then bought the Wii U one for multiplayer
@yeayeanaynay limited run game's, as you already know. Is now supporting the switch, and one of the game's they made physical was octodad for PS4 and the vita
@BezBot @Blue_Blur @tamantayoshi @AG_Awesome
Thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like this game will be enjoyed by my whole family!
Yay, more ports !
@Anti-Matter Welcome to the first year of just about every console EVER made.
Although I have it already, it’s another solid addition to the Switch library! Those who haven’t yet definitely should!!
I play it from time to time on PC. Despite the lack of analog triggers, which for many seemed to be an issue in the WiiU version, I‘ll buy it, I think.
Another one I already have on Wii U. I enjoyed it, and played it through, but I didn't collect all the ties, I think.
I only double dip if it's physical. Hope the same for other Wii U highlights that come to Switch (like Stick it to the Man!)
I bought this for Wii U, it was OK. Just. Controls were terrible. I get that it's an octopus and it was meant to kind of like that but they were still terrible. Certainly wouldn't buy it again and it was very short. I certainly wouldn't buy it again.
played this on pc, awesome little game
I've never played this game but my wee lad loves watching YouTube videos of it.
I can't wait! I wanted to play it on Wii U but never got around to it. It always looked like such a fun, funny and interesting game to me.
do ya self a favor and skip this game, it was very short and controls were terrible
I've seen reviews of Octodad and didn't like the look of it so think I'll pass on this one. Sounds like this game would really irritate me.
Nice!
Been tempted to get this for a while... was originally going to get it on Steam, but then the Wii U version was announced, so I held off, but with all of the Steam sales I couldn't bring myself to pay full price for the Wii U version and I don't think it ever got put on sale... hopefully it'll go on sale on the Switch, and I'll pick it up then.
