Re: Nintendo is Still Targeting Switch Sales to Match the Wii

Fred13

I bought mine at launch and I am planning on giving my wife one for Christmas (my kids are going to be jealous)

As far as 100 million, what if Switch becomes Nintendo's sole platform (after 3DS dies out in a year or so) and they make a cheaper Mini Switch. At that point if this platform is their Handheld AND Console AND hybrid plus ALL their games are coming to this one system then YES I can absolutely see 100 million systems sold. Nintendo just doesn't want to tell it that way yet because they're still making bank off of 3DS

Re: Nintendo States That Support for the 3DS Family of Systems Remains Strong

Fred13

@sillygostly WOW, that's really cool. I didn't know they had done all the cut scenes in HD. Do you know if this Blu-ray has an English track? I'd love to buy that (or a special edition that comes with it, but I haven't seen anything about a special edition)
Thanks for the heads up. Maybe it'll be a side story as part of E3?!? (I know probably not, but I can dream can't I)

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Breaks Series Records With US Launch Sales

Fred13

@rk3388 I wouldn't call it a quick port. They added a full Battle Mode, which is good enough that for me that alone justified the price, plus some of the small additions to the racing like steering assist for my young kids were also great. At first I wasn't going to double dip especially since I bought MK8 digitally so I couldn't even sell the old disc, however after seeing the details I changed my mind and we played all weekend.
So far no regrets!

Re: Nintendo States That Support for the 3DS Family of Systems Remains Strong

Fred13

@DVM I don't want them to kill the 3DS, I just want all of their development studios to work exclusively on Switch games.
In fact, I'd love for them to add 2 3DS games into the $20 Nintendo Selects line every month. There's a HUGE list to choose from:
FE:Awakening
FE:Fates
Mario 3D Land
Link Between Worlds
Majora's Mask
MK7
Planet Robobot
Smash 3DS
Pokemon X/Y
OmegaRuby
Bravely Default
Bravely Second
NSMB 2
Kid Icarus
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
DKCR 3D
M&L Dream Team
Paper Jam Bros
Tri-Force Heroes
Federation Force
Yo-Kai Watch

That would take you to April 2018 and by then you could feel good about adding
Pokemon Sun/Moon
Mario Maker
Yoshi Wolly World
FE Echoes
Yo Kai Watch 2
Dragon Quest VII & VIII

Plus maybe they convince a few 3rd parties to throw some games onto this selects line and stretch it further.

You can easily keep 3DS customers happy by making the 3DS gaming more affordable and then Nintendo gets to make more money off the 3DS user base while maximizing output to the Switch.
I'm not saying cut off projects that are almost done, but I am saying convert projects that are early in the process to Switch and when the Hey Pikmin guys finish that game get them doing something on the Switch and when the Ever Oasis guys get that done get them on the Switch.

Re: Guide: Tips for Getting Started in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Fred13

@SmaMan The steering assist is worthless to many and maybe even most, but it's a gamechanger for me. I used to hate racing with my kids (ages 3, 5 & 7) because it would take them so long to finish (even on 50cc plus I hate racing on 50cc), now they can finish mid pack and they have more fun racing with me even though I'll always pick 150cc or 200cc.

Re: Play: The First Nintendo Life Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Community Event - Here are the Rules!

Fred13

@SLIGEACH_EIRE If you played that much then I'd think you'll be able to get your money's worth on the Battle Mode alone.
I bought it on Wii U and my wife and I got gold cups on everything including 200cc and all DLC so at first I wasn't going to get this, but then I learned about the battle mode especially Shine Thief (I loved that mode on Double Dash) and Renegade Roundup and I couldn't talk myself out of getting it for the battle mode. Throw in the smart steering which will allow my 3 year old, 5 year old and 7 year old to compete with us and suddenly it's spewing value.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the New Nintendo 2DS XL?

Fred13

@crimsontadpoles @thesilverbrick my friends, you 2 hit the nail on the head.
I hope you're right that this will have as much impact as the GBA Micro and Wii Mini and I hope it's not Nintendo trying to bring 2 more years of life into the 3DS family. I've been ok with them releasing games that were almost finished, but I really want all their development studios to focus on Switch games and forget the 3DS family.
I do, however, think Nintendo could extend the 3DS a little if they wanted by taking ALL their big 3DS hits (and there are a lot of them) and making them $20 Nintendo Selects games. Suddenly more people are interested in and pick up Pokemon X/Y or A Link Between Worlds or Mario 3D Land, Planet Robobot, Bravely Default, Smash Bros, Majora's Mask, Fire Emblem Awakening & Fates (with fates make the 2nd and 3rd path just $10), and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.

Re: Talking Point: As Nintendo Switch Looks to Rapidly Overtake Wii U Sales, 3DS Lives On

Fred13

@Paddle1 @JasmineDragon Those of us that do have enough cash to buy every game and system we want don't have enough time to play them all so even outside of the money they're all competing for my time too. I own 3 3DS systems and tons of games that I was enjoying (like I never finished FE:Fates even though I was having fun with it) and I haven't touched them since March 3rd because the Switch won me over.

Re: Talking Point: As Nintendo Switch Looks to Rapidly Overtake Wii U Sales, 3DS Lives On

Fred13

@GameOtaku Do you really have to be like that? Just because it's not a standard Metroid game doesn't mean it's not a decent game. I've heard it's not fun alone and I didn't think it would be worth $80 (a copy for me and a copy for my wife), but if they dropped it to $20 plus my Best Buy discount I could get 2 copies for $32. At that point I'd buy 2 copies and my wife and I would have a great time.

Re: Talking Point: As Nintendo Switch Looks to Rapidly Overtake Wii U Sales, 3DS Lives On

Fred13

I know people will hate me for this, but I sincerely hope that Nintendo is done making new 3DS games (yes I'm ok with them finishing ones that are almost done). Put all resources toward making Switch games. Then we can finally have a Nintendo console that doesn't have these droughts plus I won't have to feel like I need to buy 2 separate Nintendo systems just to play all their games.
If $300 is too much for some to buy a switch then produce a Nintendo Mini that plays all the Switch games, but have the controllers built in (removing the rails and buttons and stuff will reduce the cost), smaller screen (cheaper), don't include a TV dock (again cheaper) and release that system for $200-$250 (I don't know exactly how much that all saves you but I would think it's at least $50).
Then if they are selling Nintendo Switch for $300 and Nintendo Mini for ~$225 they sell to a wider market/audience and can consequently sell more copies of each of those games plus convince a few more 3rd parties to join in on the fun.

Finally, correct some people won't leave their 2DS/3DS yet so make some money off of them by DRAMATICALLY increasing the number of $20 Nintendo Selects choices. Put FE:Awakening, FE:Fates, Mario 3D Land, Link Between Worlds, Majora's Mask, MK7 , Planet Robobot, Smash 3DS, Pokemon X/Y, OmegaRuby, Bravely Default, Bravely Second, NSMB 2, Kid Icarus, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, DKCR 3D, M&L Dream Team, Paper Jam Bros, Tri-Force Heroes, Federation Force, and Yo-Kai Watch.
If they put all those games at $20 that's an incredibly impressive list of awesome games. They'd make a killing while putting all dev resources towards the new platform.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

Fred13

@BanjoPickles The reason I'm thinking I would enjoy it is I've loved Breath of the Wild and I loved Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X.
The reason I might not get it is because it comes out close to NBA 2K18, Mario Oddessy and Xenoblade 2 so I'll already have a VERY FULL gaming plate.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

Fred13

@BanjoPickles A slap in the face?
Hardly
If i had already played the game on PS360 then I wouldn't be interested.
Similarly if I owned a PS4 or an XBONE I would be tempted to get it there instead.
However, I've never played the game so I'm looking into it and if I decide I want to play it I've never shyed away from paying full price if I'm certain I'll enjoy the game.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

Fred13

@holygeez03 Now I understand.

You're right the tracks weren't designed for 200cc, but that's what I loved about it, I had to experiment with different carts, drivers and driving styles to get to beat them and there wasn't 1 set up and driving style that would work across all the cups. It was GREAT!

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th April (North America)

Fred13

@BanjoPickles I understand the enhanced port thing. In fact that's why I wasn't going to buy it especially since I bought it on Wii U digitally so I can't even sell a disc.
However, they did such a great job with the battle mode plus my 4 and 5 year olds will appreciate the steering assist so I decided to jump in.
As for waiting until the system has found it's identity, that seems backwards to me, once it finds it's identity I'll be less likely to buy enhanced ports as I'll be playing games like Arms, Splatoon 2, NBA Playgrounds, Xenoblade 2, Mario Odyssey, NBA 2K, and maybe Skyrim.

Re: Analyst Firm Macquarie Predicts Impressive Nintendo Switch Sales in the Coming Year

Fred13

@Nintendoforlife If 3 spikes, why can't I find a Switch for my wife? So far it's been 1 continuous spike (as in nintendo sells out the day they arrive on shelves). I wish there had been a good way for Nintendo do have known it would be this popular, but alas I couldn't have predicted this so I just hope they can find a way to produce them faster. (assuming they're actually trying to find a way to produce them faster)

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Fred13

@PlywoodStick @Funky_Kong MK8D will outsell MK8 and MK8D outselling MK8 "In the first year" might happen, but I would guess it'll take a little over a year. Even on Wii U only about 60% of console owners bought it and NINTENDO GIFTED A FREE 2ND GAME TO ANYONE THAT BOUGHT IT IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS (I got Pikmin 3 with is) so I don't anticipate it'll sell to that high of a percentage of console owners. I'd say give it 2 years to outsell the Wii U version.

Re: Review: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)

Fred13

@Funky_Kong MK8D will NOT outsell MK8 in a matter of months! MK8 sold 9 million copies. Last I saw there are only 2.4 million Switches in the entire world.
Now, eventually it might outsell MK8 just based on the fact that Switch will likely far outsell Wii U, but it won't happen in the first several months.
