@Neon_Blues It is a competitive game. By default. The entire game revolves around winning and losing. You have a guy who wins, and a guy who loses, it's competition. Items are an optional aspect that doesn't really affect the game's competitive status especially considering Rivals of Aether is exactly like Smash and has no items but is considered competitive.
@Achoo Your source isn't showing me fans raging at the new control scheme which is what I asked. Star Fox Zero's reception's is not normal due to the many people complaining about its convoluted control scheme.
"I like this, I like that, I adapted to this in 5 mins and I like complex control schemes" You're not the only person in the world! There's a plethora of other people and eventually what matters is what the general consensus is. Seems to me, the majority do not like the controls.
I know how to differentiate a true fan from a fanboy who cries and moans at the first sight of criticism directed at Nintendo. The fact that you say people "smear" StarFox Zero, as if people do it for a hobby or for entertainment shows me which group you pertain to. "just move on realizing it is a good game but just not for you." The word "realize" implies that the game is good and people who don't see it any other way is wrong. It isn't. People have their own opinions and can damn well hate it based on their experience.
Your point about the 80s never worked. Game genres were being created at the time and they tried different control schemes. The Rail shooter genre has been a genre that is very well established for YEARS and we've had excellent examples of good control schemes that worked well for it. An example? Sin & Punishment 2. Which is more laughable because it's Nintendo's game. No one complained about the controls back then. You could very well control your character and shoot.
StarFox Zero tries to reinvent the wheel. Nothing more, nothing less. It tries a different control scheme to try a different control, not because it worked, not because it's better, just to be different, an attitude that has been putting me off Nintendo for a couple years now.
"Oh I just looked up your age. What do you know about the 80's? You weren't even born then" What does growing up in 80s add to the argument at hand?
Nintendo's third party catalogue would've been even bigger had they had a more powerful console, hence why Metro Last Light didn't come out on it despite being on the 2011 third party reel video for the Wii U.
The perfect combo for real gamers is to have every system. You can't just act like PlayStation has nothing interesting to offer in terms of exclusivity. Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Bloodbourne, The Last Guardian are shining gems.
Regarding the source, I have to apologize for it being outdated.
@Achoo There's a difference between using what you had available at the time and forcing a control scheme down your fans throat which is what Miyamoto does. "the now standard FPS control scheme was seen the same way at first." Source, source, source!
If the general gameplay of StarFox is essentially a 2 man job for a single player, it's a bad control scheme. I mean, you can try and accustom yourself to clunky and unresponsive controls, doesn't make them any better. Just because you are a new control scheme, it doesn't mean it works. What shooters need, StarFox being a game where shooting is an essential point, is above all precise shooting controls. Pair that with the natural hand trembling of humans and there you have it, that's the problem! I understand fanboys don't like criticism or taking things into context, but you need to stop and remove your pink glasses.
Back in 80s, Gaming wasn't established the way it is today. Not being accustomed to a game genre back then wasn't the same as today where we take these things for granted. We have now a diversity of control schemes, some that work better than others. StarFox tries to reinvent the wheel even though it worked well with traditional controls and was never a big complaint prior back in the 64 days.
Admittedly I worded the sentence poorly.
"Good job Miyamoto does not have someone like you to criticize what he does is all I can say to that" That's EXACTLY what's wrong with Miyamoto. That's why Paper Mario Sticker Star failed and that's why Star Fox Zero failed. Because no one is there to question is motive. You'd rather his IPs die to his hand by him removing what made people initially loved them for removed than to accept a criticism.
One day, you'll realize all the defending you're doing was in vain and that you should've been more critical to their very real problems. I know I'm regretting it, because I used to be a fanboy.
Haven't played the game yet, but if the controls are a problem to begin with, then you already failed as a game. It's this sort of experimentation that is slowly killing off franchises and no one is there to criticize or put into question what Miyamoto does.
Aircrafts in Battlefield are fun to control and they don't try to be some gimmicky mess. It's also a shame that they didn't at the very least put an option for Wii remote controls because THAT would actually work well with Star Fox in a way that feels natural.
@Castellon-games That list is laughable. Funky Barn? Your Shape? Just Dance 4? And how many of these games are ports? And how many of these games are superior versions on a mulitplatoform game. All I see is quantity, not a lot of quality.
Wii U's GamePad gameplay adds very little to a game. Not something worth the extra 100 you have to pay for the console if the pay off is a mode you'll never touch after your first play time. "I already can play most of One or PS4 catalogue in my computer and with better specs. Can you say the same about Wii-U catalogue?" It's funny how everyone on this site, whenever they bring up the exclusives card, assumes that everyone has a 8th gen games ready PC or that everyone has all 3 consoles. What if you only had an Xbox 360 last gen? Games like Last of Us and God of War 3 will be new to you. What if you don't have a capable gaming PC? These multiplats matter to you. This moronic act of acting like multiplats don't exist on the PS4 or Xbox One is a dumb argument that should've never been a thing. These two consoles have more (quality) games and that's what matters.
@Castellon-games My god, there is no logic whatsoever in the first paragraph. "why bother playing again anything from PS3/Xbox-360 if that's an outdated generation?" Because they have so many games and exclusives on them? Thought about that? Why do you think these consoles are still selling to this day? And your friends =/= the world's opinion. I frankly detest Nintendo's new approach with games as they tackle them as tech demos instead of fully fledged games. They're heartless, un-entertaining and boring, something I never thought I'd about Nintendo games pre-Wii U. They are nose diving in quality and replay value with formulaic release of beloved series that are developed as check lists.
"To my taste, both N64 and GameCube have some games with good replay value such as Mario Kart 64 and Smash Bros. But the best version of Smash Bros is Wii-U one" Opinion. I and many, MANY others prefer Melee vastly more than Smash 4.
"About games like Rayman Legends, Zombi-U or Deus Ex: Human Revoultion that you mention are not Wii-U exclusives, remember they got the best version in Wii-U thanks to the GamePad use." Give me a full list explaining how much better they are. Inventory management isn't a game changer btw.
"but years will pass and then a Dark Souls 4 will be released or hundreds of games in a next generation will look much better than Souls 3, so with time it will become irrelevant after all." LMAO. Another bold statement. Dark Souls 3 is newer than Dark Souls 1 and yet people STILL play Dark Souls 1 over and over and over. If you think people stop playing the old Dark souls games because of graphics, you truly have no idea why these games are so loved and played. Don't try to fool me, I played all and I go back to them regularly. I have not played Witcher 3 so I have no idea but Dark Souls is the series that effectively replaced Zelda for me.
"Remember that Nintendo is not a so huge company as Sony or Microsoft are." Nintendo IS a huge company. Last I checked they're bigger than Sony, maybe not Microsoft. Money has never been an issue for Nintendo. Their problem lies in always playing safe. "They tried when Wii-U was released with the best release catalogue for this generation, " They never even tried. If they did 3rd parties would still stick around and yet we act like they did and third parties abandonned because hurr durr they hate Nintendo. Nintendo never tried to begin with. Good for you for enjoying the Wii U, I HATE it meanwhile my PS4 gets more play time than my Wii U.
" Wii is the only Nintendo home console that sold better than other companies since SNES times and it lacked both AAA games or tech awesomeness. " Wii sold better due to being released at the right time AKA lucky. Despite it dominating the PS3 and Xbox 360, They both caught up very quickly once the hype died off and now the Wii is consistently outsold by the PS3? Because the PlayStation has established themselves as consoles that give gamers tons of games, even after their successor comes out. Simply put, you get a crap ton out of your investment. The same isn't the same for Nintendo. The NX will never succeed if it does not surpass people's expectations. The Wii was lucky but the hardcore Nintendo fans still felt betrayed in favor of casual fans, thus moving to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
@Castellon-games Most games supporting were mediocre at best. There wasn't a game this generation that showed why asymmetric controls is this must have feature that every game needs. ZombiU and Rayman Legends became multiplats therefore asymmetric gameplay was never necessary for these games. If the best it can bring to the table is to remove the HUD clutter on the TV screen, then I frankly regret my purchase.
"but the quote you took was about me replying someone saying N64 or GameCube was better," Because they are. lol, that's the point I'm making here. Asymmetric gameplay and touch screen gameplay isn't this secret ingredient that makes games 10 times better. What makes a console relevant long after its release is, and correct if I'm wrong, games which the N64 and GameCube have in spades unlike the Wii U. Better games, more diverse genres, more diverse demographics and higher quality gameplay all around. That's all it takes for them to be considered better than the Wii U.
@Castellon-games "Wii-U is the system with more exclusives for this generation + touch control, asymetric gameplay or off-tv only gamepad can offer + games with the original wii remote gameplay instead of traditional control + online play + an e-shop with good quality games"
Touch Screen, Asymmetric gameplay isn't a straight up positive like you are implying it is. Many people, including me, HATE the asymmetric gameplay of the Wii U and its "Unique" controls. The Wii U is the exemplary console of what not to focus on when making a game console. Golly, why focus on making game with replay value and quality stories with excellent gameplay when we can make a stupid controller that is way too bulky to be ergonomic? All we get is glorified tech demos. Notice how most fan favorites are games that do NOT focus on "unique" controls. Like Bayonetta, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Super Mario 3D World. Unique controls or unique controllers aren't needed to make a game great. Hell, I prefer Dark Souls 3 over anything released on the Wii U thus far and it's not a game that tries to innovate but it perfects the tried and true concepts of Dark Souls which eventually leads to greatness.
Also, Multiplayer mayhem. To enjoy this, you need friends and not everyone has friends near them to enjoy these games to the fullest which leads to a boring experience for some. Which leads to another negative point of the Wii U, the lack of online multiplayer on most games thus not giving lonely players a chance of playing multiplayer games. You see, there's a world outside of your eyes and I don't think you are seeing it through the eyes of others. A person may not have friends and he won't be able to enjoy the co-op/multiplayer games you are raving about. So what's left? The single player games. So the library has already shrunk in size for these people.
@Yorumi Meh, I guess the "last line of defense" type of argument where the console is such a failure that we have to delude ourselves thinking that there is at least something that completely redeems it from being a commercial failure. Honestly, this gen was weak for first party games.
@A01 As a Wii U owner, no, not really. If you prefer Wii U's library, it's your opinion and none can change it but to act like it is impossible for the PS4 and XBOX One library of exclusives to improve and get better long after the Wii U is done is a laughable and bold statement. Personally, Nintendo's first party games this gen were their weakest. Spin offs and games lacking content, the best games they released were simply good sequels to previous game, nothing mind blowing or incredible by any stretch of the imagination.
Honestly, Nintendo will not see a golden age anymore. With the Wii, they were lucky but that's it. How can a company continue into success having made so many mistakes in their lifetime and doing nothing to fix them? Nintendo didn't have third party support in the N64 days, nor in the NGC, nor the Wii, nor the Wii U. Is it really that crazy to think otherwise with the NX? Nintendo is simply not a company to fix mistakes like Sony did with the PS3. You can't become successful that way. You can't just run away from criticism and act like it doesn't exist.
Man, I feel bad for this man. If there's any silver lining it's that he's been there for a lot of great games Platinum made. Hope his future is bright still.
Change can be good, change can, however, also be bad. This constant need for innovation from Nintendo often makes them turn a blind eye to tried and true concepts and the reasons why fans fall in love with the games. Simply put, in the Nintendo fandom, I think innovation is absolutely Overrated.
With the constant experimentation, you'd think that change would culminate into something greater but no. This is Nintendo. In the sequels, Nintendo will just abandon a concept they've worked on and go chasing the next shiny concept they come up with. It's like Paper Mario. You have PM64 and PM:TTYD. But then we take a turn for SPM and then once AGAIN take a sharp turn with Sticker Star. It feels like Nintendo just intoxicate themselves with all the praise they get for being innovative and rush concepts to keep that praise coming but rushed concepts are hardly good.
Hell, now that I mention Paper Mario, let's keep talking about Paper Mario. What used to be a series reffered as RPG which had great writing, plot, characters, interesting setups, dynamic Turn based combat and took steps into territory normal Mario games will never go to, we have this game which is devoid of personality and good writing in favor of poor combat mechanics, generic character design and lazy world building. This brings me to 2 points that Nintendo need to pay attention to.
1) STOP SACRIFICING CONCEPTS THAT WORK FOR EXPERIMENTAL CRAP THAT ISN'T BACKED UP BY A CONCRETE STRUCTURE THAT WORKS. For instance, Animal Crossing Amiibo Scam. Paper Mario Sticker Star. The reason Super Paper Mario doesn't get the hate it could get was because, even though the gameplay was different, the heart of the series was there, it still had clever writing, it still had good plot, it still had good characters. That's why I love the game
2) YOU SET YOURSELF A STANDARD, DON'T IGNORE IT. When you set your series to have a standard of great stories, great settings, great characters, you CAN'T just shrug it off and act like all that never happened and opt for generic toads, poor writing, generic plot. That's something Nintendo keeps doing. Star Fox Adventure wasn't a bad game but it did not live to the standard of Star Fox being Nintendo's Flying simulator franchise. Like it or not, when you make a great game, you set yourself a standard that you have to respect in order to keep fans happy.
Honestly, I don't think I would consider myself a Nintendo fan anymore due to how much disrespect they show to the series and the great memories they provide. It feels more like they treat they're series as lab rats instead of beloved and established franchises. It's like a never ending cycle of experimentation that culminates into nothing.
If these rumors are true, then, I'm putting down the Nintendo flag. I'll be done with this company and never look back. Onto to PlayStation and PC and play games developed by people who care about crafting lasting experiences, not glorified tech demos to show how a game can work with a new gimmick. This is the thing that made me hate Nintendo this generation. This constant need to "innovate" just makes them forget why we started playing games in the first place. For fun, for memorable experiences, for moments we like to go through over and over. All of that seems to have gone from their priority list in favor of novel gimmicks that may or may not work.
Don't know why everyone is getting so pissed. Something is unbalanced, it gets banned. To even question or act like this is outrageous is hilarious. In pretty much every competitive game, if something is wayyyyy unbalanced like Bayo in this case, it gets banned until it's fixed. Back in December, Valve released a new gun in CS:GO called the R8 Revolver and it was so unbalanced and overpowered that ESEA and CEVO were going to ban them as it disrupted the very core gameplay of Counter Strike. It happens, and I have no clue why people get mad or insult the competitive scene over it. Smash Competitive Scene: Misunderstood by people who will never take the time to understand them.
IMO, if I were to design an easy mode, I'd make the enemies very passive. They'd shoot you once and move on. Invincibility doesn't teach you anything but allow for recklessness. While it's nice and all that's it's optional, it's a recurring trend in Nintendo games that they offer ridiculously easy options. It's nice when you are a new player but eventually when you step out of that zone and play harder games, you are going to be frustrated to no end because you simply don't know what it's like to lose.
Konami ain't getting a dime from me. The amount of disrespect they displayed to the people that made them who they are is not deserving of any kind of support.
@TheRealThanos There are still ideas from Sticker Stars and that is enough to be worried about because Sticker stars is by far the worst in the series. Sure it's a first teaser but that doesn't mean you can't have first impressions. I myself said that I can't consider the game a flop due to it being recently announced. However, are bad impressions that much different than good impressions? Someone sees this trailer for the first time and it's the best thing ever for them is simply the polar opposite of somehow watching this teaser and thinking it sucked or is disappointing, but one of them is looked down upon for expressing their opinion and first impressions.
Hopefully interviews come and answer our questions. And, above all, they learned their lesson with Sticker Stars and took the criticism very seriously.
@TheRealThanos Keeping everyone happy is impossible, keeping the majority happy is still possible. The majority of Paper Mario fans wanted something like TTYD. Is there really something to lose by going back to what made a series great?
Keep in mind I'm not angry or expect the game to be a flop just yet since we only have 1 trailer. But the trailer itself doesn't impress me much and worries me that they have not learned their lesson with Sticker Stars. The story, the set ups, the characters could be good.
@TheRealThanos Well wanting more and not getting what you ask for the 3rd time in a row are two different things. It's not like people are asking the world to Nintendo or that people aren't clear about what they want. They want a turn-based game, with partners, a good story and good characters. That's it. Now if they can't deliver this, again, for the 3rd time, yeah people are rightfully pissed. There's no entitlement there (btw wish people stop using the word entitlement as if it constitutes an argument because it doesn't). I ask for a Big Mac and you give me 2 Cheeseburgers, I've got nothing to be thankful for because you didn't give what I asked for.
Frankly, first impressions are that this game isn't exciting. It doesn't seem to take many things from the older (read better) games in the series and tries to be a Sticker Star 2.0. Hope to god this game has the story and interesting set ups that the first games had, especially TTYD. Also the characters. I certainly hope for something more than just "PRINCESS PEACH GOT KIDNAPPED, AGAIN! WE MUST SAVE HER!" because that is beyond lazy and repetitive in this day and age.
If Samox is making it then it's gone be good! The Smash Doc is one of the best eSports doc I've ever seen and this just looks like the spiritual sequel.
Only thing I hope is that they don't repeat the same thing as they did with the Wii U. I haven't been so disappointed with Nintendo as I've been this generation.
@Yorumi I'll admit you got me there. However, if you've paid attention, he is also criticizing ALL console manufacturers, not just Nintendo. That includes Microsoft who he has worked for. Now why is he criticizing the NX is because it's the latest console. I still think that if what he says is true and that Nintendo isn't communicating them specs and release dates, that is irresponsible of them.
@TheRealThanos No, the crazy thing is people defending Nintendo at every turn for fear of hurting the feelings of their beloved widdle little company despite how dumb their mistakes are. They're a company, a business, not your best buddy so feel free and encouraged to criticize them because you aren't harming anyone for doing this.
@Yorumi When exactly did he say it was only for him? Do you think you can get a lot of great games on launch day without a proper headstart on development? "He's a nobody " No, you are a nobody. He made a game (One I heard was pretty damn good). What have you done?

Better games, more diverse genres, more diverse demographics and higher quality gameplay all around. That's all it takes for them to be considered better than the Wii U.
Re: Wii U "Disappointing To Everybody" But We're Excited About Nintendo NX, Says GameStop CEO

Re: Wii U "Disappointing To Everybody" But We're Excited About Nintendo NX, Says GameStop CEO
@Yorumi Meh, I guess the "last line of defense" type of argument where the console is such a failure that we have to delude ourselves thinking that there is at least something that completely redeems it from being a commercial failure. Honestly, this gen was weak for first party games.
Re: Wii U "Disappointing To Everybody" But We're Excited About Nintendo NX, Says GameStop CEO
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Needs to Excite A Mainstream Audience in 2016
Honestly, Nintendo will not see a golden age anymore.

Re: Editorial: From Metroid: Other M to Star Fox Zero, the Awkward Experimentation With Beloved Franchises

Would much rather have an upgraded Gamecube controller, let's put it that way.
Re: Rumour: More Sources Highlight NX Controller 'Gimmick' and a Major Game Project

Re: Super Smash Bros. Community Yet to Ban Bayonetta in Spain as the Debate Shifts to Tournament Bullying

Re: Editorial: Accessibility Through Optional 'Invincibility' Buffs Can Only Be a Positive for Nintendo

Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U
Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U
@TheRealThanos Keeping everyone happy is impossible, keeping the majority happy is still possible. The majority of Paper Mario fans wanted something like TTYD. Is there really something to lose by going back to what made a series great?
Keep in mind I'm not angry or expect the game to be a flop just yet since we only have 1 trailer. But the trailer itself doesn't impress me much and worries me that they have not learned their lesson with Sticker Stars. The story, the set ups, the characters could be good.
Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U
Re: Paper Mario Colour Splash Coming to Wii U
Frankly, first impressions are that this game isn't exciting. It doesn't seem to take many things from the older (read better) games in the series and tries to be a Sticker Star 2.0. Hope to god this game has the story and interesting set ups that the first games had, especially TTYD. Also the characters. I certainly hope for something more than just "PRINCESS PEACH GOT KIDNAPPED, AGAIN! WE MUST SAVE HER!" because that is beyond lazy and repetitive in this day and age.

Only thing I hope is that they don't repeat the same thing as they did with the Wii U. I haven't been so disappointed with Nintendo as I've been this generation.

@TheRealThanos Well, with age comes wisdom.
Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits
@TheRealThanos Y'know, I appreciate these words. I'll keep em in mind.
Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits
Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits
@Project_Dolphin woooosh
Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits
Anyways, I'll read his comments see what he has.
Re: Ori and the Blind Forest Director Criticises Secrecy and Lack of Access to NX Devkits
@Yorumi When exactly did he say it was only for him? Do you think you can get a lot of great games on launch day without a proper headstart on development?
"He's a nobody " No, you are a nobody. He made a game (One I heard was pretty damn good). What have you done?
