Re: Editorial: The Nintendo Switch 'Power' Debate is Likely Missing the Point

Elanczewski

Nice article Thomas! Not because I completely agree with what you have written (but I agree), but it's well written.

I'm not in this "graphic doesn't matter" camp, but I also agree that power isn't the key to Switch success. We all know how more powerful PSP and Vita were compared to DS and 3DS respectively. And we all know how this battle ended.

Most important are:

clear concept, which Switch has: you can plan some nice games in front of TV and on the go. What else should customer know?

good games, which... we don't know whether they will be, but Nintendo accustomed us to high-quality titles. I hope that Switch will be the only Nintendo console for the next few years. Imagine machine with 3DS and Wii U games combined - it's massive amount of quality games! And now we could also have some other third-party support from studios which never collaborated with Ninny.

In brief: I'm optimistic.

"It's pretty hard to get lost this time around, as NPCs are a lot more helpful and you can always ask a woman in the Bathhouse where to go next."

I will try this in real life.

Played all previous games in series, loved it, bought Half-Genie Hero too of course. I will spend my Christmas with this purple-haired half-genie

Re: Editorial: Rediscovering the Simple Pleasures of 2D Platformers on Wii U

Elanczewski

@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Whole this day lacks interesting news and Thomas wanted this editorial to be the same

2D, because, sadly, 3D Wii U platformers besides 3D World don't exist. And even 3D World isn't 64 or Galaxy type of game.

Concentrating on the games on the list: I love Yoshi's Woolly World, never finished Tropical Freeze (this bear beats me), never played Mario Bros. U, cause I'm not a 2D Mario games fan at all. I have problem with Rayman - it's beatiful, I know it's fine game, but I don't find it interesting at all to play...

Re: Feature: It's Time to Vote for Your Nintendo Life Overall Game of the Year

Elanczewski

I don't know if 5 games from each category is good criteria of selection. Boxed games are, presumably, more recognizable, they are just bigger, more refined titles. Maybe 7+3 (boxed and eShop respectively) would be better choice?

Nevertheless, my favourite games are in. Voted for Pokemon Sun and Moon, Dragon Quest VII and SteamWorld Heist. I would choose Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, but Generations, though I played this game for something about 200 hours, isn't that good. So, yeah, time spended wasn't most important here

Re: Feature: Xenoblade Chronicles X - One Year Later

Elanczewski

One of the best Wii U games, but compared to the first Xenoblade, it's doing a lot of things worse. Chronicles on Wii have plenty interesting characters, in X we have like... one? I've got Elma on my mind of course. Protagonist is one of the poorest in jRPG genre, he/she even says nothing, only nods - who pushed this idea after Shulk in predecessor?

Story is just... ok. First Xeno have brilliant, emotional plot with many twists (even if they were predictible sometimes, they were just in the right place), which kept me playing and playing.

I also think that game became weaker after getting Skells. Yep, controversial opinion, but exploration on foot was more interesting, world seemed bigger and more dangerous. I also find combat system too complicated, Overdrive was just a mess compared to Chain Link, especially during mechs battles.

Summarizing, Xeno X took too many elements from MMO games, and I'm not fan of this type of games. I can forgive a lot when I get addictive story (and i forgave a lot of first Xeno because of this), which this game, sadly, did not have, partially because of too many additional elements, mechanics etc., which distracted me from the main story. But first Xeno is presumably best game I've played in all my life, so I'm extremeley subcjective here
