UK chart data is now in for the week ending 25th July, revealing that Paper Mario: The Origami King has fallen by just a couple of places in its second week on sale.
The game ended up in fourth place this week, giving way to Animal Crossing: New Horizons which has once again served as Nintendo's highest-charting effort in second place. PS4 exclusive Ghost of Tsushima remains on top in a week which saw no new releases enter the top 40.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
| Last Week | This Week | Title |

Continued strong chart position for Paper Mario, although it would be great to be able to compare the actual sales in relation to last week... Regardless it's continuing to sell...
Forza Horizon 4 doing pretty damn well, given how far behind Xbox is in install base AND a lot of people just use gamepass.
"Did you buy any of these chart-topping games this week?"
I have played Animal Crossing New Horizons for more than 215 hours within 30 days. 😀
@BANJO GamesIndustry.biz shared some more sales info which is below. I really wish Nintendo Life would start adding these to the articles...
The other big game of last week was Paper Mario: The Origami King for Nintendo Switch, which suffered a similar week-on-week drop of 64%. The game falls from No.2 to No.4 as a result. This second week drop means that it is now the second fast-selling Paper Mario game behind 2007's Super Paper Mario on Nintendo Wii (last week it was the tracking ahead of all previous Paper Mario games). Note: digital data is not included in this chart, and The Origami King is available via the Nintendo eShop download store, whereas Super Paper Mario was only available physically, so true sales comparisons are not currently possible.
Ghost is amazing... I know it’s a PS exclusive but I find myself playing wishing it was on my switch.
Slow and steady will do it fine. Paper is a great game.
@Anti-Matter that sounds crazy. Maybe take a walk outside breathe some fresh air, go out drink water
@Rob3008 That's great, thanks for the information. So a big drop, but this is usual for most titles, but perhaps a bigger than usual drop considering it's a Nintendo game, which are usually more evergreen titles...
Still it's selling quite well, and opened to over 100k on Japan... Lifetime sales will be interesting. I haven't picked up the game, but may when discounted down the line..
5 Switch titles in the top 10 again, and another strong week for Nintendo.
Honestly, i stopped playing animal crossing NH.
@Anti-Matter Wow
@Anti-Matter Thats over 7 hours a day on average. How are you doing this???
....a slight fall? It's gone down two places. Mario Kart, an old game is just behind it.
@zool
So going down one place is "slight" then and two places is "catastrophic" or something?
You proved last week you haven't got a clue but it seems you are doubling down.
@blockfight
Well...
I played ACNH around 6 hours in a day, 10 - 12 hours on weekend. Not to mentioned extra hours by playing ACNH at midnight when i couldn't sleep yet.
@BANJO Not really.
So if it got back to number 2 then it was lower? What did it drop to?
@Anti-Matter 215 hours in 30 days??I started Animal Crossing back in March,played it every day and just reached 105 hours.lol
When you eventually get round to having an island that you are happy with id love to come visit.
@TheFullAndy I am replying to the headline which suggested that a two place drop was "slight". You really should pay attention.
@zool
How is it not slight? How would you describe a two place drop?
@TheFullAndy .... not good.
@zool
So this is your version of the article title:
UK Charts: Paper Mario Takes a not good Fall As Animal Crossing Returns To Second
Yes that reads well.
@blockfight
Think I’ve got a worse problem. 😱
Had it since March 23rd and have clocked up over 700 hours!!
@TheFullAndy takes a not good fall? Nintendo's second big game of the year, it enters the charts at number 2 and then falls to 4. In anyone's book that's not good.
But, in fairness to the game it has been heavily criticised and scored down in part because it is not another Thousand year door. And because the battle system is poor.
I have got the red ribbon and almost have the blue one. The game it's self is good and I like the sort of 'open world' it's in, but the battle system is frustrating and detracts from the game. It is this that has let the game down
It becomes very repetitive and has very little strategy other than to load up with mushrooms and boots and a hammer from the shop. Which are all easily affordable because coins are plentiful.
Nintendo is its own worst enemy, if it has to keep changing things then sometimes it will get it wrong and this time it has, sadly. Word spreads and gamers may not want cough up £50, hence the poor chart position.
We went through this last week, you are unable to see beyond the chart position and actually look at the fact it is tracking as the second best selling Paper Mario title in the UK and it is also number 1 in the UK eshop (so in reality probably the best selling) but believe what you want deluded one.
@Wazeddie22
Finding Raymond was the most frustrated part.
I used Campsite trick + Time travel + kicked out 1 unwanted Smug villager from my island to increase the chance to get Smug villager from Campsite.
It was very tedious process, wasted for more than 20 hours to get Raymond at last. 😩
I stopped wasting Nook Mile Tickets to find Raymond since it cost 2000 points for 1 ticket and no guarantee who will be on the island and if i already have 10 villagers, there will be nobody on the mysterious island.
The previous villagers from ACNL i summoned them from Amiibo cards to kick out unwanted villagers one by one and it saved my time.
Now, i have plenty times for terraforming my island, increase my funds by selling th a lot of non native fruits for building inclines and bridges, joining the Fish and Bug tournament as i skipped a lot during finding Raymond. 😀
@Chibi holy crap. That's both impressive and insane .
Although doing some rough maths you're playing roughly just under 6 hours a day. Haha!
Between work, preparing dinner, walking the dog and a bit of tv i only get limited time with gaming these days. My lunch break at work now I've started squeezing in some Switch and Stadia time though.
Man!!!! Grand Theft Auto V never dies!
@Anti-Matter Spending that amount of time on finding one villager...I hope Raymond was worth it!
I haven't used Nook Miles Tickets in a while either,I find all the islands were nearly identical with the same fruit etc.The best time I went to an island was when I found Ketchup...my favourite
@blockfight haha, yes I agree! Although now you mention it 6 hours a day doesn’t sound so bad!
Only playing it for an hour or so a day now tho, so I guess I was playing it more than 6 hours a day when lockdown was at its severest 😱
