Paper Mario The Origami King

NPD Group has released its chart of the top-selling video games in the US for July 2020, and while PS4's Ghost of Tsushima took the top spot, Paper Mario: The Origami King put in a very good showing and debuted at number three on the all-formats chart last month.

In fact, The Origami King's launch month performance puts it ahead of every previous game in the Paper Mario series for the same period, as detailed by NPD's Mat Piscatella:

Paper Mario: The Origami King set a new launch month sales record for a Paper Mario title, with physical launch month dollar sales more than doubling those of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Piscatella later clarified that the previous best-selling entry in the series was Super Paper Mario on the Wii, with Gamecube's The Thousand-Year Door coming third.

Here's a look at the rest of the chart:

As you can see, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (the 2019 version, of course) took second place, followed by the aforementioned Paper Mario just ahead of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us: Part II and Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Nintendo first-party titles managed to take five of the top ten places, although it should be noted that this NPD chart does not take digital eShop game sales into account. Given the healthy digital sales performance of Nintendo software over the past few months, it would be interesting to see how adding those to the numbers above would change things.
