Re: Video: Are 2D Games Worth $60?

DanTee

@BloodNinja I usually agree with your comments man, but that is all utter nonsense. You cannot know any of the things you've asserted until the game is released, and the fact you won't respond and have edited after the fact shows you know you're talking out your posterior. Ninja disapproved.

Re: Apex Legends Switch Frame Rate And Resolution Detailed

DanTee

It cracks me up how we still have people complaining bitterly that the underpowered console, that was underpowered when it launched 4 years ago, made my a company that has made underpowered machines for nearly 20 years now 'DoESn'T RUn aT 60FpS 1o8oP!?'. I completely get it if performance is an issue for you, but in that case, just play it on another system? For people like me and many others who don't have any other choice, or just don't care, 30FPS/720P is perfectly serviceable for jumping online for an evening with some friends as long as it's stable. The fact developers are even attempting these ambitious ports to a handheld is nothing but a positive thing.

Re: One Million Players Have Now Visited Cvstodia As Blasphemous Reaches Sales Landmark

DanTee

I bounced off Blasphemous pretty hard when it launched, even as an avid Dark Souls/Metroidvania fan. However I returned to it during lockdown last year and played it all the way through, including the secret ending and loved it. The art style is gorgeous, the combat is tight, and if you can get over the initial learning curve (as with all these kinds of games) it's an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable romp, highly recommended!

Re: Video: New Super Mario 3D All-Stars Trailer Shows Off Fresh Footage And Features

DanTee

@DanElectrode my guess would be that they have plans post march 2021 to add some of the games to the switch online service, especially N64. They don't want this competing with potential online subscriptions maybe?

They have done this before though, as I'm sure the Mario 25th anniversary collection on Wii was a limited release, and that didn't seem to be for any reason in particular. Either way it's achieved the desired effect of selling boat loads of copies.

Re: Rumour: Is Prince Of Persia Remake Coming To Switch? Well, It's Complicated

DanTee

@Casual_Gamer95

Well considering we've had major ports of Witcher 3, Doom 2016, Crysis, Dark Souls, Overwatch and Diablo 3 to name just a small few, I dont really think switch owners are missing out much... If anything PS4 and Xbone owners are missing out on the huge amount of top tier Switch exclusives.

Nintendo haven't really tried to compete on power since the N64 and seeing as the switch has now sold over 55 million units and isn't showing any signs of slowing, I don't really see how they need to learn anything? Xbox and PlayStation are busy fighting it out and Nintendo are just doing there own thing as usual. People buy Nintendo products for their first party games first and foremost, everything else is just a bonus in my eyes.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold More Copies Than The Entire Metroid Franchise

DanTee

@Yalaa I completely agree with you, the only difference is I believe the switch install base is very different to the Wii and DS. A huge amount of people who owned those consoles were never in any danger of being remotely interested in a game like Metroid, I think with the huge success the Switch has seen with the indie scene and metroid-vania style games like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, it's entirely reasonable to think a Metroid game could do well. But 'could' is the important word in that sentence, because Nintendo are hilariously tone deaf when it comes to some franchises.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold More Copies Than The Entire Metroid Franchise

DanTee

@PickledKong64 I elaborated in a different comment that I wasn't being serious, I'm a die hard Metroid fan, I've got most of the games day 1 (including samus returns, which I love) but I'm aware the sales numbers are shocking. I whole heartedly think if it was given the push it deserves it could sell a lot of copies, and there's no better time to do it than now. But unfortunately with Metroid Prime 4 being delayed and likely coming at the end of the Switch's lifespan, the cycle of poor sales will likely continue.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold More Copies Than The Entire Metroid Franchise

DanTee

@Jacob1092 I wasn't being entirely serious as I know that Metroid traditionally has never sold well despite its critical success and fan base (which hurts my soul every day) . But that is an interesting question, I'd say probably its down to the quality, animal crossing has traditionally long development cycles and is generally well received by everyone. So it's a big event when it does launch. It also has a huge range of appeal, I found that when NH launched people were popping up on my social media that had never mentioned a passing interest in gaming all of a sudden buying a switch and putting 100+ hours into AC. Which is cool to see, but I doubt many of them would also be excited for a new Metroid title. Over the years Nintendo's reluctance to commit to the series (understandably from a sales perspective) has led to some wildy differing quality in titles, with a fan base becoming more and more hostile as they wait years for a new installment to then get something like federation force. Its one of the biggest missed opportunities in gaming I think, with the right budget and creative talent I don't see a reason it couldn't be another BoTW level success, but that's coming from a die hard fan who 26 years on still can't get over Super Metroid...

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

DanTee

The saving grace of 2020 is that we know plenty is coming, and we've had 3 solid years of releases on switch. I got back into Nintendo in 2014 during the Wii U, and not only was there a huge draught of content, but we also knew fairly soon that they were focusing on the NX, so it was just a case of sit and wait until the new console arrived, dark times indeed.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Prepared To Spend $70 On The Latest Games?

DanTee

It's all about the context of the game you're talking about, I have plenty of 100+ hour games that I would have happily parted with more cash for. When you compare to other mediums, for example paying £10 for a cinema ticket that lasts 3 hours max, I would consider anything over or around 20 hours to be worth full price. The real issue is always what you're getting for that investment, which obviously varies from person to person, but the reason I won't pay £50 for a ubisoft/activision/EA title now, is the exact same reasons I won't pay £60 for the same games in the future, because I don't feel they give me the value back for the cash I invested. But would I spend an extra £10 for 150 hours in Breath of the Wild? Absolutely!

This also feeds into why physical media dying is going to be a huge negative for consumers in the long run, once the competition of sales go away, the publisher storefronts can charge whatever they want and we have to just suck it up if we want to play their games.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase Airs Later Today

DanTee

Oh would you look at that, the Internet hype train went chugging along, everyone jumped on board face first and it's led to disappointment! What an unforeseeable turn of events...if only we'd had years of this same routine to look back on and be realistic in our expectations beforehand...

But seriously, we need to stop putting so much stock into what a few random twitter accounts say. A broken clock is right twice a day and all that jazz.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Deadly Premonition 2 On Switch

DanTee

@Reprise yea man I was the same, I picked up the first on offer and thought at least it would give me a good giggle at how awful it was, but then ended up playing it non stop and beating it within a week! Just shows you that games are more than a sum of their individual parts, and definitely opened me up to giving other games a shot that I wouldn't usually try.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Deadly Premonition 2 On Switch

DanTee

Man, these comments are a factory of sadness. 'Unplayable' literally means the game cannot be played, so anyone using that term is being hyperbolic and disingenuous. I'll concede the framerate outside is pretty poor, and it's about as visually appealing as a traffic collision, but it has plenty more to offer, and I'm still having a blast with it, just like the first game.

Re: There Are Reportedly "No Plans" To Fix Deadly Premonition 2's Awful Frame Rate

DanTee

For all those losing their minds over this, the developer did not say there were no plans to fix the game. They actually said (according to Jim Sterling's own twitter post) that 'Currently we're looking into our options for a possible patch, but nothing is confirmed yet'. So Jim either mis-quoted them in his own video, or the developers changed their minds within hours.

Re: Reminder: Catherine: Full Body Is Out Now For The Nintendo Switch

DanTee

This is the type of game that would never have appealed to me pre-lockdown, but seeing as I'm out of work until September I've been rolling the dice on some different genres and I can't wait for my pre order to arrive!

With how the Royal mail are doing it should be here by the time I go back to work 😑

Re: Konami Just Surprise-Launched A Brand New Action Platformer On Switch

DanTee

Konami is the Smaug of video game companies, sat on a pile of IP's that have been proven to print cash and doing bugger all with them, instead the only thing they do release is a small indie looking platformer? So bizzare. Don't get me wrong it looks cool (and its nice to see them greenlight something that isn't pachinko machines) but I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be people's first choice for a new Konami title...
