@somebread Team Ladybug's other big titles have come to Switch, and we've already had a fairly positive comment from the publisher, so there's every reason to expect it.

@HopeNForever That's fair, but it's also presumptuous to say with any degree of certainty that Nintendo has its own copy of the source code for such an obscure release, as we know from experience that it doesn't always have source code to hand, even for some of its most famous games.

I'd say it's very likely that Cuthbert had the only copy of the source code itself.

Which is why I found your initial comment a bit confusing... Like it's a bad thing that someone who has clearly put a lot of effort into making Nintendo the success it is today should somehow be thought less of because he doesn't have 100-hour save in BotW?

(Which, as I said before, he may well have anyway - we don't know if he's a gamer or not).

@HamatoYoshi Putting aside the fact that you don't know if he plays games or not, you'd be surprised how many executives of top gaming companies haven't played video games.

"Business" and "playing video games" aren't always mutually exclusive.

@HamatoYoshi A HDMI input cannot brick anything – there's no power passing through the HDMI port?

It's a bit like saying a SCART cable 'might' brick your SNES. I'm all for people being cautious about untested third-party accessories, but there's no evidence to suggest that it would happen here. All this dongle does is take the 1080p signal and upscale it; it's actually 'downstream' from the Switch so it can't brick it, as it's not an 'input' device (power or otherwise).

@BishoujoStar That's the thing; the mClassic didn't make a massive difference from what I could see, although it worked better when upscaling retro titles. I'm interested to see if all of this hype for the 4K Gamer Pro is legit!

@blindsquarel Even that were true - which, given how many posts there were on social media about this BEFORE our news story went live is massively unlikely - what would be the point of creating a mod and having nobody know about it? The people who create these things aren't doing it to avoid attention, or to keep for themselves.

Once you post about something on the internet, it doesn't remain locked away in some secret room, waiting for a site like ours to write about it. It's on the internet, and will therefore get shared. 😉

@blindsquarel @Darkcaptain3 With all due respect, if you honestly think a company as huge as Nintendo is only aware of these projects when a fansite like us covers them, you're perhaps being a little naive.

These mods are promoted and shared across social media, YouTube and many other channels - channels that have a reach that far, far exceeds that of Nintendo Life.

@LikeWhoa SFA was basically a rush-job done in six months in order to shift a bunch of unsold arcade hardware. SFA2 is superior in every way, so you can't blame them for wanting to port the better game.

@TowaHerschel7 Actually, we're co-owners, alongside Darren Calvert. Although Ant is the original founder (myself and Darren co-founded VC Reviews, which was fused with NL some time ago).

@DarkTron With all due respect, saying something isn't 'compatible' with a console usually means you can't play it. I get what you're saying - it is possible to play on Switch Lite, even if it's super awkward and not the way Nintendo intended it to be played - but Nintendo's messaging here is pretty clear: the game isn't 'compatible' with Switch Lite, and that reads as 'not playable' to 99% of the population.

We've reached out to Nintendo for clarification on the messaging and will update the post when we get it.

@blindsquarel The point here is that new fans are constantly joining the ranks. For example, someone hands down their old 3DS to a sibling in 2023 and beyond, they're going to miss out on a lot of digital exclusives and DLC. That's the point being made here.
