Re: GoldenEye 007 Remaster Could Be Announced In The "Next Couple Of Weeks"

Damo

@XenoShaun I don't think we're suggesting otherwise? Even if this were 100% for Xbox, we'd still have reported on it, as it's based on the N64 original. Still relevant to Nintendo fans.

However, the fact that Nintendo moved to have the game un-banned in Germany speaks volumes. Why do that if it only benefits one of your rivals?

Re: ICYMI: Kharon's Crypt Is Like Zelda Viewed Through The Lens Of Dark Souls, And It Rules

@moodycat We can't possibly review every game, so we have to make calls like this every single week, based on traffic data / comments / general interest.

A lot of people want to see reviews of certain titles before they make a purchase (others want to see reviews because they'd like to see a game get more attention) so it's perfectly normal for us to ask you, the readers, for feedback before committing the time and effort into creating a review.

And in this case, this is a game that's now two weeks old, so it's only natural we'd ask if there was demand for a full review, seeing as we've missed the launch.

Re: Chrono Cross Is Getting A Remaster, And Boy Does It Look Rough

Damo

@HeeHo @nessisonett @Troll_Decimator Apologies for the late reply (and series of comments) but it's morning here.

If we're comparing "remakes" to "remasters" (which wasn't my original intention - I was just pointing out that this game looks rough and I'm not the only one to think that), let's look at Square's other "remakes": Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Both of these are almost indistinguishable from the originals, outside of the character designs. Live A Live, to me, seems like it sits somewhere in the middle. Yes, it's more than a simple remaster, but they've clearly tried to retain the look of the 16-bit original with the 2D sprites. If it was a traditional Square Enix remake, then it would be full 3D everything.

But we're getting away from my original point; shouldn't we be expecting better from a company the size of Square Enix than a game that looks like it's been put through a PS1 emulator and given a resolution boost?

Perhaps not, judging from some of the comments here. I'm not dunking on the quality of the game, by the way - it's a great RPG.

Re: Talking Point: Who Is Nintendo Going To Buy? Don't Be Shocked If The Answer Is "Nobody"

Damo

@JohnnyC Rare, at the time, was perhaps at the point where talent was about to start leaving (indeed, the Stampers a few years after the MS purchase) so perhaps Nintendo reasoned that it wasn't worth the cost of the purchase? Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have seen Rare remain in the Nintendo fold up until the present day, but I'm not sure I'd argue that it harmed the company.

Re: Hardware: This Wireless Portable 4K Screen Offers Cable, Lag And Dock-Free Switch Gaming

Damo

@sanderev As was mentioned in the piece, the ideal scenario for this device is using it for more than one device - so it could be your TATE screen for Switch / multiplayer tabletop screen, a way of casting your phone screen to a larger display and a second screen for your computer without using wires. Given that it accepts both USB-C and HDMI for video, there will be plenty of different applications for any user.

The price is too high - as I note in the text - but I've enjoyed using the review unit. Being able to leave my Switch (or PS5) on one side of the room and game using this screen has been handier than I expected.

Re: EA And Respawn Have Three Star Wars Games On The Way

Damo

@anoyonmus Apex Legends (also from Respawn) is on Switch. While I agree that EA hasn't been as supportive of Switch as it could have been, it's fair to speculate that, as the market's leading console at present, Switch could get at least one of these 3 games.

Re: Devs Speak Out Against Crunch Culture At LEGO Star Wars Developer TT Games

@Menardi We're going round in circles here.

@Scapetti's concerns were addressed politely very, very early on in this comment thread. To sum up; 1) this is most certainly news and is worth reporting on. 2) The fact that the sources do not give their names is standard practice in ALL walks of journalism, not just video games. 3) Lego Star Wars is a franchise that has always been on Nintendo systems, hence us covering the news.

If anyone feels this is 'drama', then there's a reason for that - if you're one of the employees who has been put through this process, it can have a massive impact on your wellbeing - so yes, this is quite a 'dramatic' topic and one we've covered many times in the past. Like every industry, video games has its tough stories to report on.

And, not wanting to sound like a broken record, your opening salvo in this comment thread was 100% designed to confrontational. You lost any right to accuse us of being the same, I'm afraid, especially when myself and other staff have taken the time to calmly explain our stance on this matter.

Have a nice day.

Re: Devs Speak Out Against Crunch Culture At LEGO Star Wars Developer TT Games

@Menardi I'm not actually all that interested in continuing this conversation, as I (and other staff) have said our piece. However, I do find it somewhat hypocritical that you've waded into this comments section with statements like "arrogant thirty-something nerd power trip authors fresh off of Twitter" yet you bemoan us defending our work as "unnecessarily confrontational"?

In short, we're always looking at ways to make NL better (that goes without saying) but not all feedback is worth following up on. You think our work is "lower quality/tangentially-relevant-to-Nintendo buzzy content", and we disagree. Not sure where else this conversation can go from there?
