Re: Review: The Sinking City - A Solid Port For This Lovecraftian Detective Mystery

@Hylian_Ticipated

Even though the whole "I work harder than these people" thing comes across as a little desperate and needy, I am behind what you're trying to say.

Dom consistently puts out reviews that either bring no new insight to a title (hive Mind type scores) or completely overlooks worrying trends and issues with games that are published by big name companies (NBA 2K and playground series).

Re: Iron Galaxy Helped Bring Overwatch To Switch, Nintendo Version Runs At 30fps

Coach_A

@Ventilator the reason for no 45fps option is that home consoles are generally played on TVs. Most TVs operate at a refresh rate of 60hz, meaning the screen refreshes 60 times each second. That also means the maximum amount of frames a TV can output is 60. Games are either 30 or 60 because it's easily divisible by 60. That's why games at a locked 30fps can feel "smooth" because every second image displayed on the tv creates a level of consistency.

Because 60 is not exactly divisible by 45, it leads to weird frame pacing issues and may look, at times, to be either 30 or 60fps anyway because of the refresh rate of the display.

Re: Hotline Miami Collection Removed From The Australian Switch eShop

@BenAV so I have a PayPal account linked to my Australian account, but when I switched it over to Russian, I got an error stating that my PayPal account was not linked to this region or something along those lines.

In theory, if I created a new account (or switched my second account to Russian), would I still be able to link the same PayPal account? Because I fear I'll just keep hitting the same issue.

Re: Hotline Miami Collection Removed From The Australian Switch eShop

With all the people saying it's "easy" to access this game from another eshop, how exactly do you do that? As someone without an international credit card, it becomes incredibly frustrating trying to purchase anything from a foreign eShop (and yes, I tried PayPal and it would not allow me to make purchases in foreign eshops).

Also worth noting is that SuperHot is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper on the Russian, Polish and South African eShops compared to everywhere else in the world. Trying to purchase that game led me to my frustrations regarding this.

Can anyone give me advice on how to remedy this?

I feel a strategic port of any of the halo games to Switch before the launch of infinite (especially considering the bad press regarding its development this week - i.e. director leaving and microtransactions confirmed) would be beneficial in potentially driving sales of the next system by expanding the interest base.

Also Rare Replay in some form or another almost feels like a no-brainer for Switch at this point. At least the N64 era titles.

Re: Mantis Burn Racing Gets A Physical Release In North America On 12th December

Coach_A

Well despite what the others have said here, I enjoyed my time with this game on launch as my friend had recently introduced me to the fun of MASHED and Micro Machines when played in local co-op.

There were a few things that struck me as strange though (like split screen between 3 people dividing the screen vertically rather than into 4 screens like most games), so I sent the development team a polite message suggesting an option to change this and never heard back from them despite saying my message will be addressed within 2-10 days or something.

I think it's been roughly 2 years now...

Re: This Might Be The Actual File Size For The Spyro Reignited Trilogy On Switch

Coach_A

@Cosats Boasting about being digital only doesn't make sense to me. The Switch has such little on board memory. High capacity micro SD card are still smaller and more expensive than external hard drives. You don't have the ability to lend, sell or trade digital media. Counties such as Australia still have terrible internet access and therefore it takes a criminally long time to install these large games relying entirely on wifi or ethernet.

Then there's the whole thing about potentially losing your digital media in the future with server shut downs, account hacking, accidentally using a hacked game, etc.

There's no excuse for physical media such as this to require you to download most of the game when there are game cards big enough to hold the majority of the data readily available.

Re: Random: Two Nintendo Presidents Are Listed In The End Credits Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas

Coach_A

@chardir except for the fact the game was in development longer than anyone knew about the Switch.

I think they made the right adjustments to the game to make "working on the Switch" the main focus towards the end of the development cycle, but it was never a game with primarily the Switch in mind. If anything, the other consoles took a hit to make the switch version look like more of a viable option (e.g. no 60fps mode even on PS4 Pro/XB1X).

Re: Review: NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 - Microtransactions Can't Sink This Enjoyable B-Ball Romp

Coach_A

And come on @Dom.
You guys are reviewers. Influencers. Unless you get some monetary kick back from the publishers, I feel like it's almost your responsibility to warn consumers away from these unfair money-grabbing implementations in these sorts of games. I am a die hard Lakers fan so I generally want to play as an assortment of Lakers players and that's about it most of the time. My initial free packs wouldn't give me "enough to get me by" in the game.

You KNOW people just scroll to the bottom to read the score before they make a buying decision.

If you have a microphone, use it to /say something/.

The gameplay being a little bit better, but twice the price of the first (with no way to now purchase the first game according to another one of your articles) is almost predatory by 2K's behalf. And just because they do it doesn't mean we should all just stand back and be okay with it.

Re: Review: NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 - Microtransactions Can't Sink This Enjoyable B-Ball Romp

Coach_A

I dunno. To me, review scores are a big indicator in determining whether a game is worthwhile to purchase or not. That is ultimately their one objective. But there's way too many factors hurting this game without me playing it.

First of all, I'm a huge basketball guy. I've played for over a decade at very high levels and have spent the last few years coaching kids at a representative level. I love the 2k games and buy them every year because I can look over the microtransactions and play the game for the on the court simulation. They're great imo

This game, however, is almost twice the price of the first game in Australia (first was $26, this is $48) because it has to keep the same pricing structure as the other machines due to them receiving a physical, something the Switch did not (at least in Australia). The other big off-putting factors (outside the completely unnecessary inclusion of micro transactions, regardless of how little they impact this game. This game arguable does it worse than 2k's main series as it at least lets you play as every player and every team as soon as you start it up which is what you WANT out of a basketball game) are that the visuals clearly look worse than last year's title considering they've had a longer time to work on it and a bigger budget, the frame rate is wildly inconsistent according to analysis videos on YouTube and that, overall it is hardly an improvement on last year's title aside from a few new camera angles and animations.

Considering it's a sports title as well, describing it as "great" is a stretch (your website's rating system, not mine. Also inherently the problem with video Game review scores in general. You guys have done a soapbox on that topic before, but regardless that's a whole other conversation).
Great is a word used to describe only a select few in basketball. Kobe. Michael. Magic. Dr J. Wilt. Shaq. They are great players. You don't hear people call Channing Frye or Javale McGee or Julius Randle "Greats" yet they all do a pretty darn good job at what they do.

This game great? Seems a reach. Again, coming from a basketball fan who enjoyed the first but quickly grew bored of it. And for comparisons sake, I spent 155 hours in 2k18 without spending a cent more than what I paid for the game and got to play with whoever I wanted from the get go. I don't feel like grinding for hours just to play as the Lakers that I want to play as.

Re: Fortnite Update On Switch Sacrifices Video Capture Feature To Enhance Performance

Coach_A

@Rika_Yoshitake but the Switch CAN run it. It was great playing it up until season 5 and even then it was very playable 80-90% of the time.

Yes, the Switch is "underpowered". Yes, this game was initially designed with more powerful hardware in mind, but that doesn't mean 30fps and a somewhat lower resolution in a cartoony looking game makes it unplayable. That's just the entitlement people have these days because of the technical marvels we have seen on other systems or by other developers.

Re: Random: Hasbro Launching Officially Licensed Fortnite Nerf Blasters In 2019

Coach_A

@sanderev if you're playing solos constantly and not understanding the game mechanics or how to get better, I can understand why you'd find that boring.

However, if you're playing Duos or Squads with a group of friends that know what they're doing and having quality banter whilst you play, it is a loooooooot more enjoyable. Especially when you start getting those W's!
