Luigi's Mansion 3 is quite possibly one of the best-looking Switch games to date – allowing players to explore an entire hotel resort filled with various themed rooms and participate in a new multiplayer mode.
If you're planning to download Luigi's third solo outing, then you'll be pleased to hear the Switch eShop has now revealed the file size. As stunning as this game looks, it will only require 6.3GB of space. In contrast, this week's release The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is 5.8GB.
If you pre-purchase and pre-load Luigi's Mansion 3 right now, you'll also receive double My Nintendo Gold Points – so that's 600 in total. This is a limited time offer and will end on 30th October, prior to this game's launch on the 31st.

what if I use my game voucher to pre-purchase the game, do i still get a bonus?
The final boss of the game should be a giant ghost Waluigi wearing a Smash badge.
Hit "redeem voucher' as fast as I possibly could 😁. Halloween is my favorite holiday and this launching on Halloween just makes it that much better.
Physical as always.
Not day one, but will consider the game after other games purchased.
@mcpedwards Highly unlikely, as buying the vouchers gave the gold points anyway. You have effectively got a discount of $12.5 already; I doubt Nintendo will give out another 5-6.
@mcpedwards I thought it worked like that as well but the games you buy with vouchers do not give you points. You only get points for the vouchers themselves.
@PBandSmelly looks like you've never tried game development
Two physical copies for me of course. Hmm I do have a spare voucher left and I MUST play this game on Halloween day/night. If my orders don't come in the mail on Halloween day then I'll use the voucher and download it that day. I might even slide on the neon green joy cons too lol.
@mcpedwards not sure about this but with Links Awakening I used a game voucher, and will receive the bonus coins on 2nd Oct. but you don’t get the normal ammount of coins (if the normal ammount is 250 and the bonus is 250 coins as a total of 500, you will only get 250 coins)
Luigi’s Mansion 3 is getting DLC. Thus says the eShop page.
Because it's a simple game people. Yes dears. Is this really a next gen Mario/Luigi game here? No? Exactly my point. Nintendo is still not pushing Switch here. Other companies do. That's why more size is needed. Simple games requires less GB. Period
Day 1 or it’s the postman’s fault
@BarefootBowser Leave him alone, he's off sick from school.
Nintendo showing how it’s done again. They’ve always been very efficient at compressing their games (BOTW in 13.4GB at launch for example). Game looks glorious too.
Other developers could do with following their lead but then they don’t seem to have any incentive so they leave their file sizes huge, wasting space.
Everybody knows size doesn’t equate to game complexity or quality.
final boss in the game is the new version of I.T
Luigi dies
I'm old school so I seem to favor physical, however, I've noticed the simplicity of stopping one game and starting a new game with my digital downloads. "It's close a game, start a new one." I'm not sure I like stopping to grab a cart any longer...
@mcpedwards Certainly in Europe (UK) the eshop says you will get the bonus 250 points after a voucher purchase. This makes sense as the other 250 points would be for buying the game, but these points were received when buying the vouchers. I think it is pretty good of Nintendo really.
@almosteveryone The file size stuff isn't quite as simple as certain people are saying. Nintendo are absolute masters at optimizing their games, there's no questioning that, but the majority of file size bloat in modern games comes down to two things:
Textures are obviously the biggest. Cartoony style games generally can utilize far smaller textures than 'ultra realistic' ones. But it's not as simple as that. Many modern developers just don't bother allocating the resources to properly optimizing textures.
Ie., it helps to use a massive texture on things that will be viewed close up (regardless of user resolution), but often they don't think it's worth the man hours to separate the textures that actually need to be big and the ones that don't. Unless they are running into vram issues, they don't care about file size.
The second huge file size bugaboo that isn't usually talked about is that many games include uncompressed audio in as many as 9 languages. It's another example of developers not caring one whit about filesize, and only for squeezing every frame of performance they can from consoles. Realistically, there are audio compression formats that use almost no cpu overhead and are lossless, but because the current generation of consoles have such backwater processors, developers don't want to sacrifice any of it.
When it's time to allocate resources to optimize a game before it heads out the door, the lowest priority is file size. (except for nintendo, which is yet another reason they're unique and special in the industry)
Too. Many. Games. Too. Little. Time. Must. Resist. Buying. But. Gonna. Fail....
Not bad. Got a voucher with this games name on it.
No really, I wrote Luigi's Mansion 3 on one of them and now the ink won't come off the screen. Help!
@Joe-b
I certainly got tired of switching out discs on Wii and Wii U, mostly because it takes such a long time for the motorized slot-in drive, and you have to store them a little more carefully than with cartridges.
Even with the Switch, undoing the latch and fidgeting with the tiny card is a far cry from the GameBoy / SNES / N64 ease of exchange. :-/
600 points? Is LM3 a £60 eShop game? *No it's a £50 game so you get 500 points
I was surprised at this size last night when I saw it. I really do appreciate Nintendo managing to keep their games relatively small. I want, say, The Witcher 3 and Dragon Quest XI as well, but that's gonna eat up pretty much the rest of my storage, forcing me to eventually upgrade to a 1 TB SD card. Wish those things would come down in price soon...
@Pod @BarefootBowser @Joe-b Biggest reason I've gone pretty much all digital. Storage is more of an issue, but the convenience factor is worth it to me. I know there's an argument to be made that the servers may eventually go down, but game cartridges will eventually fail too, and any game (pretty much all of them) that get updated after release are not 100% on the cartridge anyway. I kind of wish I had also downloaded the cartridge games I do have (BotW, Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, DOOM, Wolfenstein 2).
I do somewhat miss the boxes though. I kind of wish the Wolfenstein Youngblood method of release were an option for all games. Get a box with just a code inside.
@mcpedwards You get half the points if you use a voucher. I buy my e-Shop credit cheap of CD Keys (Got £90 for £72) buy the vouchers and het the coins and have money left over.
I hope this does not mean it is a short game.
PLEASE DEAR HOD LET THIS GAME HAVE SURROUND SOUND
@CupidStunt this is genius thanks for the heads up. I’ve just bought £90 eShop credit for £77.97 off CD keys. Bought the voucher and preordered Zelda and LM3, got the points and some people are saying here that we will get the extra points after release. And still got money left over. This is a bargain in my eyes.
@beazlen1 No problem buddy. Check every day as I got 3 for £72. Cdkeys prices change constantly. I bought 4 x £90 worth lol. For each £72, I got £90 of credit. £84 voucher I got £4.20 back and £2.50 each eventually for Zelda and LM3 plus £6 left over. Absolute bargains this way and I prefer digital gaming especially when this cheap.
@beazlen1 You get half of the double points with a voucher.
@CupidStunt I just checked and it says so on e-Shop that you get half of the double points.
"Pre-purchase now and earn 600 Gold Points"
That we can all use on My Nintneod Rewards to get discounts on 3DS and Wii U games.
NL should do a survey - What are you planning on doing with your 600 LM3 gold points?
A. six $19.99 games 95% off for $1 each
B. eight 75 cent Mii skins for SSBU
C. 3DS and Wii U game discounts
D. forget about them and let them expire
@Giygas_95 I know what you mean regarding convenience. If your not going to share your cartridges, then downloading is so much easier. Not sure what u mean about "If the servers go down." If you download it to the sd card, isn't that your cartridge? I'm so debating on do I buy DQXI or download it? I think they'll be games I want to share, so I'll buy those. But downloaded games are so worth it.
@Joe-b A lot of people are concerned that some day, the eShop servers will eventually be taken offline (they probably will at some point), but like I said, nothing lasts forever. Game cartridges don't either.
@CupidStunt @beazlen1 - I bought a £30 eshop code for £23.99 last week (20% off) from CD Keys, they're brilliant! I used it straight away to pre-order GRID Autosport. I found out about it on Hotukdeals.
Amazing that this game looks so good, and Pokemon looks so poor.
@farmer_humpf I know it is totally amazing. They are £25.99 at the moment which is still a decent enough saving if you are buying £90 worth for £78 to buy those vouchers. I doubt I will ever buy physical again.
@mcpedwards You likely won't. While it wasn't eligible for a bonus, I bought Super Mario Maker 2 with a voucher and didn't receive any Gold Coins for that purchase, I only got the Gold Coins for buying the vouchers. If you want the 600 Gold Coins for Luigi's Mansion 3, you'll need to use eShop credit, not the vouchers.
@CupidStunt like the play on letters in your name.
@Pod one downside is sharing games. You can share cartriges, you can't share downloads.
@NintendoByNature
It's almost like they set it up so you'd need perfect perry timing to pre-purchase with your voucher before your subscription ended Glad to see it worked out!
@Woomy_NNYes hahaha it does seem that way. I ended up doing the twitch thing so it wouldn't have been an issue but still. They cut it too close for comfort.
Hmm don't ruin the fun it looks scary..
@Joe-b
Oh absolutely. And they will work many years from now on an entirely different system, should you lose, sell, or break the old one. Even without internet connection.
@Joe-b It is my birth name....... 🤣
@Pod yah, I guess DQXI will be a cart!
@Joe-b You can put your profile on a friends console and when you are not playing they can. I remember when PS3 first came out you could share digital games with 5 different people, but they eventually reduced it to 3.
@CupidStunt haha! Wish I had a cool name like that!
@CupidStunt wow. Didn't know that. Pretty cool though.
@WiltonRoots @BarefootBowser I'd just like to let you guys know the off sick from school comment made me laugh my ass off, thank you
@DarthFoxMcCloud well i don't expect any gold points for a non bonus but maybe just 300 if I use a voucher, right? anyways I didn't want to take any chances so I just used my last voucher on legend of zelda link's awakening. sad, because I live in NA so I can't buy anymore vouchers.
@Barbara001 you are so pretty just that
@mcpedwards All I was saying is when you use a voucher, you won't get any Gold Coins for using it towards a game. You only get the Gold Coins for the act of purchasing the vouchers. So you wouldn't have received any gold coins for using the voucher to get Link's Awakening. You can see for yourself in My Nintendo (and if you did receive any, that means Nintendo screwed me when I got Super Mario Maker 2). I'm in North America and I know all too well as well the sadness of not being able to buy anymore vouchers. I'm saving my last one for Animal Crossing New Horizons in March.
@facudsc89 aaah, thnq so much! ❤️🥰
@Alucard83 Breath of the Wild is one of the biggest and most complex games I have played and it is only 13gb
@Zach777 It’s for the Scarescraper and Scream Park side modes, not the main game. It will cost money, but we have yet to see what they’re going to add
People are comparing physical carts which they claim 'can break' to download which WILL become unavailable, come next-gen. Really? with the number of physical cartridges still out there from S/NES and you're worried about those breaking? IMO comparing those two makes no sense.. I still have 200+ DS games, but the DSI ware ones are no longer available for DL anymore (on thier original system).
