I have access to most of this on Rare Replay. Therefore, would love Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64 to appear here. Hope they do as some point, just as the SNES DK games did.
@Dringo The Switch version doesn't. You can sort of remap some of the controls and get similar but can't get rid of the weird aiming system. The Xbox version default option is just like any other modern fps. So that became my preferred version by far.
Incredible that the Switch version didn’t get modern controls. The Switch is usually my platform of choice for retro games due to its portability. What was the problem with tweaking the ROM to add the extra option. What a ***** deal Microsoft and Nintendo did. One version has ***** controls but is the one with online multiplayer. The other has no online multiplayer but controls like a modern game. Why couldn’t they just give all features to both versions?
I couldn’t care less about Pokémon, and Xenoblade definitely is not for me. I like the combat in Bayonetta but find everything else about it very cringy, so didn’t buy that either. Given this, I think 2022 was the first year I didn’t buy a single Switch game, and it received minimal playtime compared to my PS5 and XSX. Still looking forward to Zelda and plan to replay BOTW after I’m done with Witcher 3 on XSX.
I’d just like that they do a Switch 2, with more powerful guts (imagine how could a switch do powered by something equivalent to Apple’s M2) but have a Smart dock, which contains an extra CPU and GPU to compete with current gen consoles when docked. Best of both worlds.
Not understand how an emulated port of games from the 80's and early 90's are included. Those should work flawlessly (as they do in most free emulators), and if they don't then it was a really mediocre job. Not sure how can you compare the amount of work done to port Nier: Automata or No Man Sky to Cowabunga Collection or Capcom Fighter Collection.
It looked pretty, but other than graphics, it was a downgrade from Yoshi’s Island in every aspect. A dumbed down version without any challenge and too short. I rented it for a weekend back then and was done with it very quickly.
@Ryu_Niiyama SW piracy has been an issue for as long as I remember. Unfortunately that’s something devs need to account for. At least the silver lining is that consoles have been hard to pirate for a few years (with the exception of the Switch). Not saying I condone it by the way, I own all 3 current gen consoles and play each single game legit (buying or subscriptions). Agree that especially for smaller dev, it must suck tough. Too bad that anti piracy measures most times end up hurting the actual legit users, while pirates still find a workaround.
@Ryu_Niiyama i don’t think that’s the devs problem. They still get paid whatever they agreed for their work. Publishers tough, that’s a whole other matter. Still in this cases I wonder how much lost revenue this causes - what portion of the people who pirate it would have actually bought it?
@BTB20 can’t believe you and others think 4K is a fair wage for someone that’s helped define and build the character for two previous iterations. Didn’t look the rest of your points. Yeah, I know this isn’t Call of Duty but still a franchise that would push quite a few units.
4K is ridiculous, unless it was a job that could be done in less than a week, including the actress preparation and everything.
@datamonkey Agree, I think it was called Bowser's road or Road to Bowser or something, but that's always been my favorite as well. Expected to see in the list, but glad that at least it made it to the first comment.
@Kazman2007 Same happened to me with Xenoblade DE. I tried it, but quickly found out these games are not for me. It's great that it seems to be a top quality games, those that are into them are in for a treat!
Awesome games. I played the hell out of it when it released on Xbox A few years ago, so not double dipping. But if you haven’t played it, you’re in for a ride.
I'm sorry, but temp labor and contingent workers are exactly that. Unless they were onboarded with the promise of their being converted to FTE's after some time, then they are getting what they signed on for. Companies typically use contingent workers for what they perceive as non-core functions, but unless stated explicitly as one of the expectations, there is not an obligation to hire the contingent worker.
In fact, in many cases, it is the vendor who will not allow the customer (Nintendo in this case) to hire the contingent worker, via a non-solicitation clause in their agreement or even a non-compete clause in the individual employment contracts.
@Anti-Matter good for you. Most of us that have access to it can heavily enjoy it. And guess what? You can still buy your favorites, but get to play those you’re curious but wouldn’t necessarily buy. Shocking, right?
Most suck tough, as you mention you don’t play AAA games, and only kiddie/indie games. Many of them are not even offer digitally (and if they do, it is months after launch). Seems you’ve put yourself in a tough spot!
I really enjoyed SNES Batman Returns. The graphics looked really cool at the time, and have some very intreresting move, being able to grab two enemis and knock their heads against each other like in the film.
@Banjo- I’m good with your point man. Just my previous experience with Gameloft tells me this is in no way a game that would compete with MK8 in terms of quality.
@Specter_of-the_OLED considering COD was the top selling PS5 game despite selling less than usual, I fail to see why Sony “wouldn’t want them anymore”.
@WoomyNNYes Yeah damn developers wanting to maximize what technology brings and allow to push the boundaries for their games. Instead everything should be held back by the Switch.
A Switch with a CPU like the M1 Max of M1 Pro would be a dream come true. Too bad I never see Apple licensing their CPUs to others or Nintendo putting their AAA exclusive on someone else’s platform
Compared to what Microsoft does with their backwards compatibility, this is plain ridiculous. Xbox 360 and OG Games performance is not only up to par to the previous console, but in most cases it is actually enhanced.
Meanwhile Nintendo gives 25 year old games poorly emulated? Yeah, doing the bare minimum for maximum return, the Nintendo Way. Outside of their AAA exclusives which are outstanding and always some of the best games ever, everything else is half-assed, full of lazy efforts.
XSX - Picked Far Cry 6 during the Black Friday sale, and the odd Halo Infinite match in between. PS5 - completed R&C: Drift Apart's Main Story, now picking side quests and items I missed Switch - Created a new user in my Switch to do a new run of BOTW. Taking it slowly.
@WallyWest because there wasn’t much else dude. I wonder how many died a lot, got frustrated and stopped playing after a few hours. I would assume quite a lot, but we’ll never get those numbers so it’s up to anyone’s guess.
Ratchet & clank looks cool and it’s waiting on my PS5, just needs to find time for it.
@Dpullam as an SVP of sales and marketing and considering how Switch is currently selling, I doubt his role was “small”. If anything, I would imagine he has a big part in making a machine so weak in paper (underpowered) be so desirable and pretty much a big hit .
@MrHonest True, I frankly didn't care for it much either, but it got rave reviews - in many cases better than Ratchet & Clank (TBH I don't care much for platformers outside of Nintendo's).
I own all 3 consoles - and they were all lackluster in terms of exclusives, but if I had to pick in my opinion Xbox was the better (or least worse) of the bunch.
No....it is so far behind the other consoles that it's unreasonable to believe any AAA multiplatform game would come to it, in any other form than a cloud version. Hope we start seeing PS5 and Xbox Series only games that can tap better into the capabilities of those machines.
@Old-Red just what I was thinking. By elimination it would mean that RE. Village was better than the PS4 version of Psychonauts 2, but not than the Xbox Series X version. Therefore the XSX version of Psychonauts 2 should have been game of the year. Haha such weird awards
@WallyWest Returnal is a niche game, the only reason it got so much exposure is because there wasn’t much else. Deathloop was a great game, I enjoyed it despite being a bit tired of it by the end. Kena isn’t in the same league as the others. Ratchet & Clank seems great and definitely in my list for the holiday.
Metroid dread is also one of the great games this year. But I didn’t buy anything else for my Switch.

Re: Video: GoldenEye 007 Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Xbox)
@Dringo nope. Modern controls on Xbox make it the superior version by a mile. I won’t touch the Switch version unless they add that feature.

@Doomcrow true. I’m playing on Xbox.
Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Service With GoldenEye 007
@Doomcrow im having a blast with it. Just like I remembered.
Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online N64 Service With GoldenEye 007
Tried the switch version first. Controls are crap, haven’t been updated since the original. Xbox version has modern controls so I’ll stick to that
Re: GoldenEye 007 Shoots Its Way Onto Nintendo Switch Online This Week
@rawzeku Looks like the only way to own it on a modern system is if you buy Rare Replay on Xbox.
Re: Best Zombie Games On Nintendo Switch
Isn't DOOM considered a zombie game? All entries are better than most of this list.
Re: Video: Does The Switch Actually Feel 'Old' Yet?
It almost feel like a retro gaming machine to me compared to my Xbox Series X or PS5. Great games, no doubt, but technologically ancient.

@MythTgr No, you aren't right. I have a canceled preorder for this game in my Amazon history - which I had placed on July 17th.
Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout
Preorder cancelled. This is ridiculous for a series of this caliber, I guess I'll just wait a bit longer and go straight to GOW: Ragnarok

@Specter_of-the_OLED of it just mean that mistakenly went through the review process - it has happened to all platforms, from iOS to Nintendo.
There are always rip-offs try to make it through any of the digital storefronts for a quick buck.
