Re: TowerFall - This Couch Co-Op Classic Is Perfectly Suited To Nintendo Switch

Blue_Rover

Played this last night with my two older children, 11 & 13 and we had a riot. It was so funny. Two people shooting each other at the same time, jumping on someones head by accident, blowing yourself up with a bomb arrow... And then watching it all back in slo-mo. I cannot imagine the carnage that a 6 player game would bring. We play a few games on local multiplayer but this was as much fun as we have had for a long time.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

Blue_Rover

I love the newness of a game. I am not saying I get bored easily but this article certainly rang true with me. I love buying a new game and starting it up for the first time. Its a buzz. I buy more games than I could ever play in a lifetime but I am a sucker for a bargain as well. Little bit of money here and there and having a collection grow (as someone mentioned). My mates used to rib me about my inability to complete a game and its true. A very small percentage of my games I ever finish and sometimes I go back to an old game and its very comforting. Like seeing an old friend for the first time in a while. The simple fact is I know, I know I can't change. I love playing games and I love buying new games. My name is Ed and I have a problem....

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.0.0 Is Now Live

Blue_Rover

@Grandiajet Meant to be apparently but I can't seem to get them to work. I restarted the switch and it kicked off but only uploads the next save in the Cloud Save queue and then leaves the others as Backup Pending.

EDIT - I have kicked off each initial upload manually by selecting each save data to back up in the Cloud Save Data list under Data Management. What I have found is if I play a game then exit, the update to save data is uploaded automatically (so where the date/time on the console version is different to the cloud save version.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.0.0 Is Now Live

Blue_Rover

Downloaded and can see the settings for cloud save data. Set On for Automatic. I am connected to the internet but none of my save data is automatically being uploaded. I can do it manually but I half expected the process to kick in, you know...automatically.

Anyone else noticing this? Its been about 20 mins. I have turned the setting on and off, gone into the individual cloud save game settings and selected all off and all on, but still nothing has been started.

EDIT - Seems the good old "turn it off and on again" did the trick... Backups now uploading and marked as pending.

Re: Reaction: What are Your Thoughts on Nintendo Switch Online?

Blue_Rover

I think it could have been more, certainly something more integrated for voice chat would be welcome. I think they should have had more details regarding the classic games. The whole VC not coming to Switch has caused a stir but from what I have read they have only said they are not using the VC banner but will release classic games under a different name.

Online service aside it baffles me constantly that Nintendo hasn't leapt on the backlog of old games. They just about got it right on the Wii, Wii U was very meh but I cannot believe they haven't launched something full on for bringing old format games to the switch. They have the best back catalogue of games of any of the consoles.

Any way, back to Online as I climb down from my soapbox. Its £18 in UK and I will be getting it. We all knew it was in the post and this day would come but I think they should have done more to justify the policy to pay but giving details of a proper voice chat (get rid of the app). I don't play online much (bit of Splatoon 2 when the mood take me) but I have never had any issues playing lag free.

Cloud saves will be welcome for sure.

I will be getting simply for convenience but I think for a little bit more money they should have delivered something a bit more than what we have for online now and in line with other systems. Doing something different when its not as good is ok when its free but when you start charging I think it needs to step up and meet peoples expectations on what an online service today should and can deliver...

But it is only £18 which is hardly a huge outlay in comparison to an average gamers annual outlay on games, accessories and consoles that we spend to maintain and feed this wonderful thing we all enjoy...

Re: Video: Check Out The Scope Of Nintendo Labo's Toy-Con Garage Mode

Blue_Rover

This makes the Labo stuff seem a lot more attractive. Being able to do your own projects and open up more than a few possibilities outside of the kits Nintendo are releasing. This has made Labo far more of a potential purchase now... My children are going to love mucking about with this (as indeed I am too! )

Re: Feature: Remembering Toys R Us, The '90s Gamer's Paradise

Blue_Rover

Echoing the first comment by @marios-love-child. The store in Norwich has felt like its been winding down for a while. Video games section is barely there and very recently the Lego stock has been a lot smaller. Not surprised but it's sad nonetheless.

My children liked going there to spend their pocket money but recently we have found Smyths to have a better selection of all.

Re: Nintendo Gamers Prefer Using Switch As A Handheld Rather Than Docked

Blue_Rover

I have a 4 hours commute (there and back) three days a week so portable is perfect for that. Mostly docked at home though. Although my two oldest children and myself played tabletop in the summer outside which was great fun. I wasn't going to get a Switch and when I did it was an impulse purchase but I don't regret it for a second.

Re: Warner Bros. Confirms That LEGO Dimensions Is No More

Blue_Rover

I'm disappointed but not really surprised. I picked up a lot of the packs as a lego collector and as a gamer. Still enjoy playing it with my son. However the pricing was ridiculous I thought especially with the sheer number of packs they released. That being said I never paid full price for any. Never paid more than £15-16 for the level or team packs and more than a £10 for the fun packs. Just kept an eye out on Amazon, ToysRUs or Smyths.

Echoing what has been said here it does seem that Nintendo hit the mark with Amiibos. One purchase for a good quality collectable figure that can be used across multiple games...

Re: Video: Nintendo's Latest Switch Promo Really Crams In Reasons To Own One

Blue_Rover

@tobibra Totally agree with the loose in the bag observation. And the fact its already on as well...

I've just bought a Switch on impulse. Was going to wait for later in the year but one was in stock in Toys R Us so I did it. Very very pleased with it. Zelda on the commute home, Mario Kart in the back garden, Arms sat in my armchair.... All good...

Re: Review: Super Mario Maker (Wii U)

Blue_Rover

Can't wait for this (of course I will have to) Preordered the special edition on Amazon in UK a month ago. I like the idea of being able to switch between playing and creating (like LBP) that I think it will help drive that creative spark and just playing about with what you can do in a relaxed way will be a lot of fun.

Re: The Miiverse Redesign Has Gone Live

Blue_Rover

I like it. I was never a heavy Miiverse user but I found yesterday I was using it more (maybe cos its new) and taking some screenshots and using the Play Journal. I like the idea someone else had of using the Play Journal to record something from every game session you play as a record. But thats more for your personal record than anything that anyone else might find interesting. I like the way the communities have been split so you can avoid the very, shall we say, sub standard drawings and doodles that don't mean anything to anyone.... I still fail to see where all the negativity is coming from. It feels like some people just like to moan about something just for the sake of moaning.

Re: The Miiverse Redesign Will Go Live on 29th July

Blue_Rover

Maybe I've missed a trick here but I am surprised about all the really negative comments about this update. I can appreciate the comment limit feedback although 30 a day seems enough but thats just me. The rest of the organising of the communities looks good and while I am not a massive miiverse user, I am looking forward to seeing the changes. I do like the idea of a screenshot album and I can see myself using it more.

Re: Poll: Is It Time For a Fresh Alternative to the Virtual Console?

Blue_Rover

Echoing others on here, VC is a great idea and in many ways a far better concept that anything on other platforms by a country mile.

What has been continually disappointing is the slow release of some classic games and platforms. Some of them we still haven't seen. Allowing owners of 3DS/Wii U to access and buy the vast and wonderful library of Nintendo games of old was such a missed opportunity. Its always felt, especially since the Wii, that VC was a half hearted attempt. There are some great games/platforms that need to be on there. It should have been as good as the Wii offering straight away and its not and that feels like a step backwards.

I'm still a bit confused with the predilection of releasing GBA games on the Wii U. Maybe its just me but I'm not that keen on playing handheld games on the big screen.

Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Dreamcast

Blue_Rover

I picked one up from a friend about 2005, and I really enjoyed it. Had a few games but the two that stuck out that I had were SF Rush 2049 and Headhunter. On the face of it it still seems strange looking back that it failed. I still have it and rack it out every now and again... Come to think of it...
