Re: Mario Kart World Is Reportedly The Smoothest Entry Yet

BlueMonk

I’m using an Ultra Gear 27” LCD paired with an NVIDIA 4080. So I’m using G-Sync and NVIDIA’s low latency mojo. The switch won’t be as powerful obviously but I expect switch 2 basically to be emulating the type of experience I am getting, in handheld. It’s absolutely brilliant. I expect the switch in handheld will be a great experience. One thing is how awesome my pixel art games look. Playing the Steam version of Chrono Trigger and Dave the Diver on it these days and they look so good.

But motion blur or response time isn’t gonna be an issue in handheld. It’s gonna be a fantastic experience, I’m confident.

Re: Community: The Results Are In - These Are Your Most (And Least) Wanted Switch 2 Games

BlueMonk

I put in 185 hours into CP 2077 when it launched on a PS4 Pro. Another few hundred when I got a series X. Now a few hundred more on the PC I built. Even without the high end PC visuals CP2077 has become the GOAT. To get that entire game on a cart is legendary and I want a switch 2 and a cart of that even if I don’t play it much. I am a little worried to see what it’s like but again, I played the much maligned launch and it was still a good game that became exceptional so I have not doubt it will be good, but I hope they can capture the feel of the PC version in terms of density and detail. It won’t have the full scope of course but they just need to keep the vibe and I think they’ll do it. On a high PC I just walk around dazed by what’s happening on screen.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Switch 2 Cross-Progression Confirmed, Performance & Resolution Detailed

BlueMonk

Grew up with an NES but if Nintendo was the only game in town I wouldn’t be a gamer. I got a switch because of all the third party games in hand held and I do love the xenoblade games. I just don’t have a reason to buy this time. Playing CP with full path tracing and I’m not going back; I love xenoblade but not enough to own a switch 2 just for oerformance; I think switch 2 will do well but it’s never gonna be as omnipotent as the switch.

But it was Bioshock and Witcher 3 and Doom in handheld that got me to buy a switch and not only did I discover handheld gaming sucks for me, I now have many other options to switch. There are a lot of gamers like me. Switch 2 needs to hit 100 million and I think it’ll do that but no place near as many as switch 1.

Re: Halo: Master Chief Collection For Switch 2 May Not Launch In Its 'Complete' Form

BlueMonk

@BradlyOverrated
The swap is definitive you’re right.

Those original visuals are still some of the most unsettling I’ve come across in gaming. They aren’t scary but can be deeply unsettling and the bright, detailed visuals of the remaster absolutely remove that entire atmosphere.

After that? Well I think the original stands alone as a masterpiece and maybe the sequels aren’t even close. The “ghosts of halo” is always a fun look at gaming history. sniffle

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition?

BlueMonk

Really love the Xenoblade games and I’m enjoying Chronicles, but this is a mediocre game at best. A technical marvel it is not. If anyone other than Nintendo released a game that not only isn’t modern, but still has obvious pop in and frame problems, they’d get bashed. You guys need a new system desperately if you think this is modern. Not to mention awful menus; they’re clunky. I enjoy it, it’s good, it’s 8/10. But the xenoblade games would be so much better if not for Nintendo. They’re being held back.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 2 To Launch In June With 3-Phase Software Plan

BlueMonk

NVIDIA DLSS is a powerful tool. On the PC it’s done truly remarkable things even though that gets lost in peoples lust for a delusion of perfection. I don’t know what they’ve got cooked up with Switch 2 but I don’t expect it to be a mere PS4. I have lots of questions, like refresh rates. On PC, I already want to be pushing at least 50 frames before I use frame generation preferably 60. Really I expect games in the 90’s and frame gen is intended to fill out the refresh rate of your screen. Then If a game runs at 30 doubling frames to 60 feels like crap and has artifacts. What’s the goal? How did they solve this? What’s the refresh rate on the screen? But I believe they’ve got a good plan.

That said, the only reason I need a switch is for xenoblade. I don’t pirate games and that’s the only place I can play them but I think I’m done. I’m curious still but as of now I don’t plan on getting a switch 2.

Re: Palworld Developer Responds To Nintendo Lawsuit

BlueMonk

This feels sleazy by Nintendo and it’s always sad to see Ninty fanboys zealously defend them. One day, Nintendo’s inner working will be exposed and we will see just how sleazy they are. Until then, you guys can continue to fawn over mediocre games.

Re: Former Switch Exclusive Octopath Traveler "Delisted" On The eShop, But There's No Need To Worry

BlueMonk

My digital collection of the last 15 years, on PC and all my consoles, has been more immutable and permanent than any of my physical media.

Consoles die, retailers stop carrying things, that’s life. You guys acting like this is a case for physical media are delusional. My digital library on PS3 still works. My PS3 won’t live much longer but until the physical console dies, I expect the games are still there.

Nothing lasts forever. Including your precious physical media.

Re: Best Tomb Raider Games, Ranked - Lara Croft On Switch And Nintendo Systems

BlueMonk

@mlt
Spoken like gospel. I differ, 2 superior to one. Slightly agree 3 is a mess. Level design has too much sprawl.

That being said, the opinions on that vary wildly. You should include that as a caveat when giving advice. I think that was bad advice and analysis.

The ultimate fact is, I don’t think anyone under age 30 will get into these and I wouldn’t recommend them. Unless they’re just a HC gamer. Really really into gamings origins.

Re: Best Tomb Raider Games, Ranked - Lara Croft On Switch And Nintendo Systems

BlueMonk

@zool
What’s your interest? Nostalgia? Curiosity? That’s very subjective.

Personally TR 2 alone would be worth it to me. If you’re Nostalgia hunting for just one I’d say it’s worth it. If you take the time to learn to play these old games again, you might like me find yourself loving all 3.

Overall I think it’s good value at 30$ US. Your mileage may vary.

Re: Best Tomb Raider Games, Ranked - Lara Croft On Switch And Nintendo Systems

BlueMonk

@JohnnyMind
Fair enough that you could say an option would be preferable, but I still disagree on that point and:

  • I don’t think saving is clunky at all. Yeah, I’ve made the mistake of either loading when I meant to save or saving in a bad spot (I leave a trail of save files though) but I find its menus very elegant.
    And I hand t even thought about soft locking yourself but checkpoints could make that a real concern.

That’s why I ask. Did NL really play these games? You don’t need to be very far into TR2 to recognize it as a different animal from modern games.

Okay, also fair to decry that as subjective. But I think all the “quality of life” stuff has taken away so much from the gaming experience. I find TR Remasters faithfulness to the originals both functional and elegant.

I’m just old now though because I now realize: I’d take these over any modern game. Ever since the release of TR 2 I had wondered where the magic had gone. And they can’t recreate this. These are a product of their time and the limits of the time. And that time is gone.

Uncharted; Ghost of Tsushima; Assassin's Creed; the list goes on and on. I thought it was me. It wasn’t, it’s the games. That’s why Nintendo I think resonates with me. They’ve remained the most true to some core values and their modern games reflect that.

Still it’s for less handholding; less exposition; radio chatter; checkpoints; I’d love to go back to a more primitive era. I’m old.

Re: Best Tomb Raider Games, Ranked - Lara Croft On Switch And Nintendo Systems

BlueMonk

Manual saving is such a relief in these games. That’s insane to think reliance on any checkpoint system is helpful. One wrong move can kill you for extended segments. Do yourself a favor if you want to beat these and keep all your hair: save often. Very often. Especially those of you who never use guides or walkthrough.

TR 2 on checkpoints would be so painful. And ditch modern controls. Get used to tank. Once you understand the move set and get good, tank is far faster and more accurate. Get those side jumps down for fast positioning. Encounters are a puzzle not twitch. Save your game and use your head.

Checkpoints …. ffs. PS1 TR 2 had save any place. It’s so easy to die and they can do that because it’s not a checkpoint system. Having it on 1&3 is a bonus. Especially on handheld. You can chip away at these very difficult and time consuming games, piece by piece. Even if you’re using a guide it’s helpful. Every jump you make is progress. Please don’t ask for checkpoints….. these are not f’n modern games. Did you even play these games? Some of those trap segments without the ability to save as you make it through would be so much worse on checkpoints. They’re extended and you just die if you are slightly off or miss times and even when you make it, it was mostly luck.

Re: Microsoft Lays Off 1,900 Xbox, Bethesda And Activision Blizzard Employees

BlueMonk

These people aren’t helpless, living off their meager MS wages. They’re adults with skills and they work in an entertainment industry. I don’t want to anger everyone, but the malice we show one human being, while pretending to be defending another, is awful.

News for you people: All living beings suffer and we as individuals have no idea what personal battles someone fights. Be they a CEO or a janitor. With the little information we have, the rhetoric here is just pitch forks.

Re: Microsoft Lays Off 1,900 Xbox, Bethesda And Activision Blizzard Employees

BlueMonk

Gamers simultaneously trash the games being made, then act as if every one of those 2,000 jobs is a precious and innocent family loving individual being treated unjustly? Those big evil corporations… that fill your entire life with toys.

It’s an entertainment industry. It’s especially volatile. These people aren’t dependent on their companies to survive. They are not going to starve and their children won’t be wearing rags. An employee is not a dependent. It’s your job to protect yourself and your family.

To simultaneously be so vile and reprehensible towards people you think deserve it, and get on high horses and after bashing the games being, act like your heart goes out to those poor unjustly treated developers is hypocrisy. This is genuinely becoming disturbing levels of ignorance; bias; and vitriol.

Re: Poll: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version Is Out Today On Switch, Will You Be Getting It?

BlueMonk

@Vexx234
I’m done with the games. Nostalgia is the death of hope. I just don’t care. I only hesitate if my experience will be affected at the time.

And that’s what matters to me, as time is more valuable than money. But once I am done I am not a collector and I do not like owning a bunch of stuff.

So I think that it is delusional; the idea that stuff actually matters to you. It’s getting old seeing influencers sit in front of a bunch of media that defines them.

Re: Poll: A Plague Tale: Requiem - Cloud Version Is Out Today On Switch, Will You Be Getting It?

BlueMonk

I think people have a delusional concept of owning things forever. Funny thing happens when you buy stuff “to own forever”: it ends up owning you. All things are transient.

Played the first on PS4 Pro, I’ll be getting this for Switch Cloud. I played Control on Switch Cloud and for maybe 30 seconds of the 30 hours I spent with that game I had issues that let me know I was using the Cloud.

The Village demo ran great. I have no problem with the cloud. It’s better than buying hardware I don’t want. I’m holding out for the next from Nintendo. I just don’t want to be on Sony or MS machines.

I have never had problems streaming. So for me having the option to play some games I really wanted without getting new hardware is more than worth it. I really enjoyed the first Plague Tale so I was looking forward to this. When I do get new hardware one day, I’ll probably play it again if I like it.

Re: Feature: Handheld Face-Off - Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs Steam Deck

BlueMonk

@sleepinglion
It’s nice that they’re different but these comments border on obnoxious.

They’re two machines that play video games and these two are in direct competition.

The kicker here is Nintendo, especially if you’re buying Ninty games, is far more expensive. You’ll double the cost of a Switch with games in no time, while with Steam you will be fighting off good 5$ games with a stick.

Re: Atlus Wants To Know If You Would Like More Nintendo Switch Games

BlueMonk

@twztid13
That precisely would ruin it.

Atlus doesn’t have fantastic stories, what they have are characters and stories with a certain charm.

That’s just a terrible idea. But I expect to have to dig out old hardware when I want to play it.
If they change a hair on its head, it might be a good game, but it wouldn’t be Persona 3.

But I’m not sure how well Persona 3’s guns used in the animations will sit with an audience today. I think Persona fell off after 3. 4 was okay, 5 was …. I didn’t like it. So I just want to be able to play 3 on recent hardware instead of having old stuff hooked up.

Re: Feature: Handheld Face-Off - Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs Steam Deck

BlueMonk

@UltimateOtaku91
I disagree. How large is just the Steam Library? Containing games going back over the history of PC gaming in particular.

Add windows and more functionality and the Steamdeck is not what I want for AAA games. All much, much cheaper to buy than anything on Switch.

It’s for the largest library of classic games. That’s why I want it.

Re: Feature: Handheld Face-Off - Nintendo Switch OLED Model Vs Steam Deck

BlueMonk

This notion that “they both do different things” is simply false. They both play video games. Different vibe and nuances aside, they’re game machines.

And as far as money, you’ll save a ton more money with a Steamdeck. Nintendos eShop and game prices in general are much higher, often for the same game.

I love my Switch but it’ll never have some of my favorite games, the Steamdeck automatically has access to a vast library. Nintendo and it’s bizarre anniversary games that see a limited release really annoy me. Unless that changes, I don’t plan on another Nintendo system.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Of Valve's Steam Deck Are In - What's It Like Compared To Switch?

BlueMonk

For me this is absolutely competition for the Switch but:

  • I am not doing the scrambling to buy one. If it’s available and there aren’t scalpers and jerks to deal with, I might but ….
  • Early reviews are nice but I want to find out how well they hold up and what customer service is like.

When I think Valve and Steam, customer service does not roll off the tongue. That will probably keep me from ever being interested.

Anyone here ever had a dispute with Steam or Valve? They literally don’t have customer service.
