The Pokémon brand has been awarded 'License of the Year' at The Toy Foundation’s 2022 Toy of the Year Awards, often described as "the Oscars of the toy industry".
The brand recently celebrated its 25th birthday and continues to be one of the most recognisable commercial brands in the world.
Amy Sachtleben, director of licensing at The Pokémon Company International, had this to say of the news:
At The Pokémon Company International, we aim to deliver the joy of Pokémon to fans around the world through our products, and being recognized as the License of the Year at the 2022 Toy of the Year Awards is a wonderful way to celebrate the culmination of a landmark 25th anniversary year for the brand and its partners. We look forward to giving broad global audiences more ways to engage with the property through exciting collaborations and merchandise.
Pokémon's reach extends far beyond the video games which have made it famous. TV shows, movies, trading cards, toys, clothing and music.

Yeah, but don't forget how bad those Arceus graphics are, m'kay?

Meanwhile, I feel bad for Monster Rancher franchise by TECMO on PS1 & PS2 got plummeted by Pokemon and Digimon domination. 😔
There was Monster Farm anime, toys, trading cards, etc during late 90's era but Monster Rancher was fated to be unpopular franchise. I still miss Gali from Monster Rancher 2 with Aztec style pictures on its cloak. I grew up by Monster Rancher 2 on PS1 and Monster Rancher 4 on PS2 during my teenhood.
@gcunit,
Don't worry, some will never ever forget about those graphics.
That picture shows the glory that is the original Fat Pikachu compared to the modern day and lame Pikachu.
Bring back Fat Pikachu.
@Browny he does represent the times better than the 90s! I call foe representation,NOW

The highest grossing media franchise won 'License of the Year'? Wow, so shocking. Much wow. @_@
Pokemon's 25th anniversary celebration has been going for about 15 months now.
I love the picture!!! Old meets new
Can we get another one with the minifigures facing us?
Am I not surprised here. Acreus probably sealed the awards for Pokémon franchise.
@Bret when your birthday literally lasts all year
I've been playing Pokèmon since day one when it launched and generally I've enjoyed them all. I don't tend to judge the games based on graphics, I prefer to judge a game based on gameplay, mechanics and how engaging it is. Literally every Pokèmon Article I've ever seen on this website over the years I've been here there always has to be that one irritating person that always has to say the same thing that has already been said a million times already.
It is so annoying 🙃
@Dilly-Mick And a bit in the year before and the year after! P25 was revealed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2020. We're still getting P25 celebration stuff now, 15 months later!
It’s a little amusing that the title of the article doesn’t include the title of the award, but an analogy. That’s how important this award is.
