Re: Nintendo's Taking Ring Fit Adventure On A Tour Of The UK & Ireland

Bart_T

@readalie I was rather relieved to unlock the Knee Lifts to replace the Squats with. I also found the detection on the squats to be hit-or-miss at best; I couldn't get maximum damage unless I over-bent the squat to the point where I had to put my feet further apart and tilt my torso further forward to keep balance. I've been going to the gym for 16 years and I know how to do a proper squat, so that really irked me.

Aside from that, though; the game kicks all kinds of ass. It's fun, it's easy to get a quick session in when I feel like it and it actually managed to get my heartrate up a couple times. I know it's probably a long shot, but I really hope there's some DLC expansions or ring-con support in other games coming at some point.

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch

Bart_T

@Kalmaro If you got it on steam, and have a PC that will run it in decent capacity, play it there. Not a knock on the Switch version, but PC is really the way this game's meant to be played. KB/M controls are great, the interface is much easier to deal with on PC (but still a bit of a mess to start off with) and if you can crank it to medium-high it's still a wonderful looking game. And don't forget mods; the second time I played through the game I put a couple of aesthetic and quality of life-mods on there and it made the playthrough much more pleasant.

I mean, portability and the sheer novelty of it make the Switch version almost worth it, but the superior PC experience (no, I'll hear none of that PC-master-race-nonsense, it really is the truth here) just ekes out above it in my opinion.

When I get the itch to play through the game again, I might just be tempted to pick up the Switcher down the line, though.

Re: The Switch Version Of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gets Rated By The ESRB

@Heavyarms55 I have sunk hour after hour into this game. It's story is crafted, written and acted in a way that's just wonderful. The combat, the level of immersion, the enormous but extremely dense world, the tons and tons and tons of sidequests and activities... it's one of the most generous and well-crafted games I've ever played. In fact, in anticipation of the Netflix series, and because I got in the mood for it again from starting on the books, I've recently started a third playthrough, and I fully expect to be content, gaming-wise, for the next month or two.

No, the game's not "perfect", and I'd also wait for the verdict on the quality of the Switch version. But... man, if the port is any good, you'd do yourself a massive disservice skipping this one.

Re: Rumour: Multiple Witcher 3 Listings For Nintendo Switch Appear Online

Bart_T

@Indominus_B No doubt it CAN run, but the question remains in what state it would be delivered. TW3 is built in a custome engine developed by CDProject Red. Other big current-gen titles running on the Switch are made using Unreal Engine, Unity or id Tech. The makers of UE and iT have had close relationships with Nintendo to develop the scalability needed to support the Switch. REDengine was not built with the Switch in mind at all, so having it power a monster of a game like TW3 on a system it's not designed to run on inspires some understandable scepticism.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for this, hard. I've spent more time with TW3 on PC than I care to admit, and I'd buy a decent-looking and smoothly-running Switch version in half a heartbeat. But pulling off a version like that would be mighty impressive indeed, given the amount of work it most certainly would be.

Re: Witcher Rumours Intensify Following Discovery Of Job Listing Referencing Nintendo Switch

Bart_T

@admiraldancealot It's... very much an RPG? Just one where your character is predefined rather than one you create yourself.

If we're defining RPG by mechanics, well, it has weapons and equipment to gear up your character with, it has a level-progression system to measure how powerful your character is, it has a conversation system where you make choices for your character, it has quests and sidequests (so many sidequests). Experience points. An open world. Many of the genre's trappings are present.

I understand your arguement in that you're playing a predefined character, there's no classes, and no 'role playing' in the D&D sense.

But make no mistake, The Witcher 3 is, definited by it's mechanics, definitely an RPG.

Re: Guide: Every Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Controller Available Right Now

Bart_T

I got the Neon Red/Blue as they came with the switch and the Neon Yellow ARMS ones with.... ARMS.

I'm quite fond how colourful the Switch looks and I'm happy Nintendo went with giving us plenty of options make it an eye catcher. Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid with the N64, we had black, grey, blue and yellow controllers with it.

Devices made for fun should have the option to look fun.

Re: Video: Even Menu Controls Are Challenging In The Switch Version Of Dark Souls

Bart_T

It's a bit of a niggle for about an hour or so, but it seems rather lazy and I can't quite figure out why they WOULDN'T add it, given that you can already rebind what these face buttons do ingame.

Alas, an option to swap would be nice, but I've gotten so used to it by now I'm not sure I'd even use it. Maybe it helped that I played the game on PC with a controller before, so the muscle memory is already there for me.

Re: Check Out The Ferociously Fast Multiplayer Action Coming To GRIP: Combat Racing

Bart_T

What bothers me is that, those Rollcage-y cars like that, if they flip... don't the wheels need to reverse the direction in which they're spinning? Popping up and driving on a ceiling like in that video would send your vehicle forwards from it's momentum, sure, but the direction the wheels are spinning is counter to the direction you're going... you'd lose all speed at best 'n blow up your gearbox at worst.

It's unrealistic, man.

Re: Nidhogg 2 Hits The Switch eShop in 2018

Bart_T

@justin233 I never played these games on PC, but I do know for a fact they have both matchmaking and private online multiplayer, and it's been announced for the Switch as well.

Never really piqued my intereset before, but if it's not too pricey I may pick this up at some point.

Re: Dark Souls: Remastered Won’t Feature Cross-Platform Play

Bart_T

@Danpal65 The online component is one of DS's weirdest but most entertaining wrinkles. There's ways in the game to semi-randomly pop into another player's session as one of several diffrent 'phantoms'; either getting summoned by someone requesting assistance or entering someone's game as a malicious invader. Objectives during these online sessions vary from killing your 'host' to helping them beat a boss.

Communication is minimal, reduced to just emotes performed by your avatar. But somehow players have formed quite a variety of phenomenon using these tools, from organized fight clubs to wacky dance parties.

It's silly, it's entertaining and it's awesome.

I, for one, always enterted the 'Warriors of Sunlight' covenent, playfully known as the 'Sunbros'. Their focus is purely on co-op; as a Sunbro you can leave your 'sign' anywhere in the game for other players. When they use your 'sign', they'll summon you into their game as a glorious golden phantom for jolly co-operation. As a Sunbro, your mission becomes to defeat the next boss in your host's game, and upon completion the Sunbro earns Humanity and a Sunlight Medal, which is used to further their standing in their covenant and gain more of the covenant's power (including but not limited to THROWING FREAKING LIGHTNING SPEARS).

So yeah, DS's online is pretty cool.

Re: Rumour: Dark Souls Remastered Will Be Announced Today In A Nintendo Direct Mini

Bart_T

Welp, here I go dyin' again...

And again, and again, and again, and...

Seriously, DS1 kicked my ass the first, second and third time around. Only after getting hooked on Lords of the Fallen (nabbed it from a bargain bin way back when) did the whole 'Souls' idea click for me. Weeks after LotF, I gave DS1 another go and got it right. I finally killed the Taurus demon (Don't laugh...) and figured out to run PAST the bloody dragon rather than try and take him on. I kinda blacked out the next 2-3 weeks, but apparantly I got 'gud', praise the sun, and beat the game.

Played halfway through DS2, never touched DS3...

Anyway, hell yes, gimme DS1 on Switch!

Re: Rumour: Burnout Paradise Gets Rated For Switch Release In Brazil

Bart_T

@penfold007 Ya know, I thought this would bug me too with Rocket League... but it really doesn't. RL's arcade-y controls work just fine without fine throttling, even though I'd spent 150+ hours playing RL using an Xbox 360 controller (on PC).

If I recall Burnout Paradise correctly, it too is rather arcade-y in it's controls and gameplay, so I'm guessing it'll do just fine without analog triggers.
