After months of rumours, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was finally confirmed for the Nintendo Switch during this year's E3.
While we know it's coming to the system at some point this year, we still don't know exactly when CD Projekt Red's open-world RPG masterpiece will arrive on the hybrid platform. Fortunately, we might not have to wait much longer, as the game has now been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board:
As you can see above, the Switch release has received an M rating, just like the other versions. If you've played this particular entry in the Witcher game series before, you'll probably already know why. If not, you can read the full rating summary on the ESRB website.
This classification follows on from a recent rumour in July, when a Czech retailer posted a supposed launch date for the Switch version of the Witcher 3 on its website. If you're wondering, the date was 24th September, which falls on a Tuesday.
Are you excited for the release of the Witcher 3 on the Switch? When do you think this game will arrive on the platform? Leave a comment below.

And now begins my mad rush to complete Fire Emblem before this consumes all my free time!
I will probably pick this up. Everyone seems to think it's like one of the best things since sliced bread, so there has to be something good to it. But I'll still wait for the reviews.
Considering how poorly Assassin’s Creed III, Saint’s Row the Third, and even a game like Bloodstained (a game Switch should have been able to run in its sleep) have turned out, I’m not hopeful for Witcher III.
Please not September. Everything is releasing in September.
can't go wrong with cd red, plus the whole game on a cartridge. take notes other devs
September is already a stacked month but go ahead and pile it on. I'll be there for a day 1 pick up. This game comes complete on cartridge (32gb cart no less) and I have to support that.
Switcher 3, come hence!
Oh no, i can’t handle this and Dragon Quest in the same week....
And now we have the first game rated for "sexuality" on the Switch
@sremick i believe lust for darkness got there on that first
@BanjoPickles Sure — there may be a few bad apples, but there are also ports that are pretty dang good, such as DOOM, Skyrim, and others. I think TW3 will be a great experience on the Switch.
Everything is coming out in September.
@Heavyarms55 It's a great story based RPG, where your decisions have consequences. It is kinda like Skyrim, but with much better characters, and more plot driven. Not everybody's cup of tea, but it deserves a lot of the accolades that have been heaped on it.
I'm curious to see how they work the controls...the PC version used a lot of the keyboard...
@BanjoPickles
I get it, but don’t forget there have been games that were never have to supposed to run on the Switch at ALL that have been very good. The fact they are even attempting this makes me think they’re confident in the results.
As long as know one thinks we’re getting PC level graphics, I don’t think we’ll be disappointed.
@Lone_Beagle Yeah I know the very general idea, but it kinda felt overhyped for a while, that kind of hype tends to make me more skeptical than interested. I'd imagine the controls would be like the other console versions.
I believe I will get this and it's a bonus for me since I only have a Switch and credit to CD Projekt Red for the effort they are putting to port the game.
Can’t wait for this! Have it on PS4, but as a parent, it’s hard to find time to game on the big screen. Maybe I’ll finally get to complete it!
Also, to back the Sept comments, “Noooo, why?!? My poor wallet!”
Lastly, we complained there weren’t enough games on Wii U, now it’s basically too many. 😆One day, in the year 2055, I’ll complete my Switch backlog. It’s gotta be 100 and counting now....
Thanks Heavyarms55, Gundam is life 👍🏼
Will probably get this when it releases. Heard so many good things about it.
@Dm9982 my switch library has hit 294 now. Backlog is not even the word for it.
@BanjoPickles I don't get your comment. I'm playing through assassin's creed III at the moment and it is really enjoyable. No slow downs, probably my only complaint is the audio at times but really enjoying it.
Can't wait for this one. Completed it on PC but never did the expansions so looking forward to another play through!
CD Projekt Red are legends for even attempting this! And in 1 cartridge. Bodes well for more future ports (Cyberpunk?!)
@poly_phil It and SR3 got patched.
I'd be fine with September, but agree it's a really busy month!
@Chamillion205 Bucket List? Yeah Bucket List sounds bout right. 😆
I’ve got like 20 retail boxes, a full 400gb card, and at least 20 games in the cloud since the 400gb is full.
Trying to figure out where to fit Mutant Year and Wolfenstein YB currently.
My most awaited port but not because I’ll buy it, just want to see the technical aspects and a performance analysis.
I’m addicted to Fire Emblem, so I’ll have to finish it before Witcher 3 comes out. I want to go for a different class in witcher 3 this time around — potions, oils and bear armor perhaps?...
I picked this up on the PS4 in a sale a while back and haven't touched it really but that's likely the fault of the PS4 not being portable (wtf Sony?).
Anyway, I'm hoping there's a lot more to this game than the fact it was beautiful to look at on other systems... because it ain't gonna be so beautiful on Switch. Fingers crossed.
As amazing as it is they went the extra mile to fit the whole game on the cart, I've been stung recently with Bloodstained and Mutant Year Zero being poor ports. Will hold fire until the reviews/gameplay videos are out post launch before deciding I think.
Game of the Year for 2015 on Switch? I'm interested to see how well the game plays portably.
I will pick this at certain point if it is not hot garbage (very likely it is not) but in no way I get this day one in the end of September as my most anticipated games of the year are already one week apart... And dragon quest lasts a looong while
@frabbit how can you request a game be something more than attractive when you freely admit to having bought it and not touched it? 'gee i hope the new Coke tastes better than the old Coke (that I have never drunk)'
@Lordplops Not sure I get what you mean. I got it on the PS4 for a tenner, don't find the time to sit down in front of the PS4 too much so never got round to playing it. I have seen the game in action on the PS4 and it looks stunning, but know it's not going to look like that on the Switch.
So I'm hoping that the 10/10 ratings across the board weren't based too much on the attractiveness of the game on other platforms and that it also stands up with lesser visuals on the Switch where I'll actually be able to put hours into it.
@BanjoPickles
Poorly !!!?????
InstaBuy. Thank you CD Projekt Red for porting this gem I hope it makes you a s@&t ton of money and some!
We’ve seen some Switch footage already peeps and apart from a little downgrade and removed foliage it seems to be the full experience on 1 cart and running really well!! Buy buy buy
@Nanaki I’m in the same boat!
If that rumored date is true and it's sandwiched between Link's Awakening and DQ11, may God have mercy on my soul for the lack of free time. At least I know I'll have games to last me until approximately mid 2020!
I'm gonna say November release. I hope so anyway as i have a ridiculous backlog to get through and just got fire emblem too 😬
Please, don't release on September!
@Heavyarms55 It is a bit overhyped, and it's not perfect by any means, but that doesn't mean it's not still very good. Side plots in TW3 are better fleshed out than some other games' main plots, and choices do have an effect. I can see why it gets 10s and tops people's favorites lists, because the plot and character details really elevate it to another level. However, even though it has a super strong narrative, that doesn't mean it's a story everyone will enjoy. As with all The Witcher games, they recycle character models just a little too often in the world, which kinda sucks. And the gameplay is serviceable but not amazing. I actually had to try to play it twice. The first time it just felt clunky and awful, and then the second time something clicked and it was fine. Geralt is kind of like steering a tank, and it's definitely not fast-paced frenetic action - slower even than Dark Souls I felt. However, it's insanely rewarding to get invested in the lore and research monsters and then prepare to properly exploit their weaknesses. The crafting is actually rewarding and the enemy variety is superb in my opinion. I ended up loving it in the end, especially since the characters totally sold it for me, even though I, like you, was skeptical of the hype at first.
This is the week after my vacation, so that's probably good since i'm hoping to get some work done on my backlog at that time lol.
I'm looking forward to Witcher 3-64.

@Dm9982 lol I had the same issue. I currently own two 400gb sd cards (one is currently filled), and four 128gb sd cards. And I own 36 physical cartridges. But I think I’m leaning more towards digital for the moment since I have so many d@mn sd cards.
@Chamillion205 😂😂 And I thought my Sd card and wallet were bleeding.
Amazon uk have it down for a December 25th release
So far they have been right with the months
@frabbit I think the visuals taking a hit on switch is definitely a negative, but certainly wouldn’t take it down past 9/10 in my book. I loved this game for so much more than visuals. I’m more nervous that the load times might be excessive than anything else.
@Heavyarms55 I have sunk hour after hour into this game. It's story is crafted, written and acted in a way that's just wonderful. The combat, the level of immersion, the enormous but extremely dense world, the tons and tons and tons of sidequests and activities... it's one of the most generous and well-crafted games I've ever played. In fact, in anticipation of the Netflix series, and because I got in the mood for it again from starting on the books, I've recently started a third playthrough, and I fully expect to be content, gaming-wise, for the next month or two.
No, the game's not "perfect", and I'd also wait for the verdict on the quality of the Switch version. But... man, if the port is any good, you'd do yourself a massive disservice skipping this one.
Why are people excited for an inferior version of this game? Play it for cheaper (and now) on your PC, PS4 or Xbox One. You'll get better controls with those systems too.
@Heavyarms55 FYI, I read the Witcher books & they are really good, so if you want to do those instead (books & game really are not related) you can always give them a go!
@Crono1973 and what if Switch is your only console and you don't have a gaming PC?
@KraniX Then you should buy a different console, if you can afford a Switch then you can afford a PS4 or Xbox One.
@Crono1973 that's ridiculous, if someone only owns a Switch you think they should spend 200 quid on another console just to play Witcher?
@KraniX ...and other games that are cheaper on other consoles and superior to their Switch ports.
Let's face it, Switch owners are paying more for inferior ports because of the hardware gap and Nintendo dropped the ball on controllers this generation.
@Crono1973 I really don't understand where you are coming from, not everyone has the money to buy multiple consoles or a gaming PC. If you've sunk 300 quid on a Switch and games that be you done for some considerable time.
And the Pro Controller is great in my opinion and the battery last forever. There does appear to be issues with the joy cons, thankfully I've not had trouble with mine but would be good if the UK had the same warranty repair as the US. Am sure this will follow in time.
Personally my Xbox One S is packed away in the loft and my PS4 Pro hasn't been touched for months. Due to the form factor and having kids who take over the TV I play more games on Switch than anything else. I'd never have sunk hundreds of hours into Zelda if it wasn't for the mobile option, I don't mind a downgrade in graphics for the convenience.
@KraniX So you have both an Xbox One and PS4 (Pro no less) and you would rather pay more for inferior ports on the Switch?
I don't understand only having one TV though, that must be too expensive...LOL
@Crono1973 yeah because for me the portability aspect would outweigh a drop in resolution and lower quality textures. I travel quite a bit for work so the Switch is perfect for me. I'll never see the end of the Witcher if I'm tied to a TV.
It's not a case of not being able to afford more TVs, we just don't want them all over the house.
I can see we aren't getting anywhere here though as you don't seem to be able to understand that people might have different needs to your own.
The Witcher is a great game regardless, playing at a lower resolution doesn't change the story.
@KraniX yeah because for me the portability aspect would outweigh a drop in resolution and lower quality textures.
Don't forget the higher price.
