Re: Chucklefish Issues Apology For Voice Actor Casting Choices In Wargroove's DLC

Nice, I didn't know EileeMonty was in this game! She's pretty well known in the brony community, and it's nice to see her get some work outside of fan pony content.
As for the content of the article, Ugh, are people really raising a fuss over this? Black people voice white characters. White people voice black characters. Women voice boys and sometimes boys voice girls. Old people voice young and young voice old. It's voice acting, people don't have to look like the character they play, as long as they sound the part.

Re: Turns Out Many Characters Shared One Body In Zelda: The Wind Waker

Pretty much anything animated using puppets is going to have characters made from just a few reused body types. Could you imagine the ridiculous amount of unnecessary work if each and every NPC in video games had a totally unique body type built from scratch?
Besides, unlike many games, each Wind Waker NPC felt unique both in look and personality.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

For games I don't have much interest in, I'll usually just scan the score, and maybe read the summary. Sometimes if it's a surprisingly high or low score I'll read the accompanying review. Now for games that I am interested in, I'll absolutely read through the whole review.

Re: ESA Attacks World Health Organisation's Decision To Classify Gaming Addiction As A Mental Disorder

Gaming can be addictive in the same way gambling can be addictive. Certain types of games have been shown to release dopamine in the exact same way that a gambling win does (especially those games that are little more than dressed up Skinner boxes). It seems irresponsible of the ESA to claim, just because some might make false negative assumptions about gaming as a whole as a result from this, that the World Health Organization somehow trivializes the entire issue of addiction by widening the definition to include rare cases of video game addiction.

I played this game for the first time just a couple of years ago on WiiU virtual console. It remains one of my top five games of all time. As for Samus Returns, I am loving it! Last night was up until 4 AM because I just couldn't put it down! (Not the best idea in hindsight given Im have work in a few hours)

Re: Niantic Is Facing a Class-Action Lawsuit Over Pokémon GO Fest

Ugh, it is ridiculous just how entitled some people are being about this. Yes the event was a failure. Big whoop. Not only did Ninantic give full refunds to every attendee, they got an extra hundred dollars worth of virtual currency, and every one of them got the legendary Pokemon that was the main prize for the event. Frankly I'm impressed that Ninantic did so much for the attendees. To suggest that the people setting up the event should have to pay for everyone who attended to travel to Chicago is utterly ludicrous.

I've seen events crash and burn far harder than this, where people who were supposed to have comped hotel rooms and travel suddenly have to pay the full amount. Actors who'd been promised payment for their appearance now were being charged for things they were promised. People were literally stranded with no way to get home. The fan community literally banded together to send donations to help those in dire straits. I say good on Ninantic to do so much for the attendees. They took the full brunt of the hit financially for this, and to have the audacity to then say to them, "not good enough, I deserve more" is just appalling to me. (If you're curious about the event I mentioned, look up Las Pegasus Unicon)

Re: Nintendo Fixes the Left Joy-Con Problem with a Small Piece of Foam

Assassinated

A lot of people are saying that this is a pretty rare issue, but I don't think that's true at all. I think this is an issue with virtually every left joycon out there. The reason not too many have experienced issues thus far has to do with their tv set up, and player distance. Whether or not people have actually experienced the issue, the signal strength of the joycons, particularly the left one, is unacceptably weak. With such a simple fix, and widespread issue, I think a recall would make sense, as everyone would benefit from boosted signal strength, whether or not they've yet experienced any issues personally.

Since when is $4 million a lot to make a game with? Not to mention, after kick starters cut, and backer rewards, and administrative fees and taxes, they probably only get to put a fraction of that toward the actual game. Also, keep in mind with those delays, man hours are freakin expensive. The longer it takes, the more it costs, and after that initial funding, they weren't seeing a lot of new sources of revenue.
He main problem was that they just bit off more than they could chew. 10 SKUs at launch? That's insane! No wonder their resources got stretched thin.

What happens when a Nintendo game gets delayed? The development team takes more time to finish, polish, and debug the game while Nintendo foots the bill. The devs either get paid by the hour, or a salary, and the publisher takes on that extra expense.

What happens when an indie game gets delayed? Some devs work one job, and code the game in their spare time, not getting paid until it's released. It tends to stretch their limited resources to their limits, and beyond. If they had an initial surge of funding like from Kickstarter, it's tough to go back to the crowd saying you need more money. Especially if they already exceeded the amount initially believed to be required to make the game in the first place. They may have to look at other publishers to help fund the game, as had happened with Mighty #9. At this point, there is no hope of releasing a polished masterpiece, the best they can hope for is a working product that ticks all the boxes that were promised to be included, so at least they can say "even if it's not what you or we hoped it would be, we still delivered on our promises, and gave you the game".

What tends to happen with Kickstarters is that developer pitches grand vision for game. Backers go above and beyond what dev asks for to fund game. Dev promises to add features since has "extra money". Backers expect grander vision of game relative to $ above initial ask. Dev stretches self thin trying to do too much with too little (stretch goals are usually at arbitrary amounts, and almost invariably underestimated in terms of cost/time/effort to produce). Game gets delayed. Backers get annoyed. Game either gets cancelled, or game finally releases, and under delivers. Backers get angry. And finally, backers call entire Kickstarter a scam.
