Re: Platinum: Nintendo Has Been The "White Knight" Behind Bayonetta 2's Development

You know, I'm actually starting to think Nintendo's stance on backwards compatibility is going to hurt them in the long run this generation. WiiU will get several must have games, but people won't buy the system, because they assume they can play them on Nintendo's next console. Many already think the console is a failure, and will refuse to buy it regardless of the games it has. Bayonetta 2 and Zelda are the big ones I think will suffer from this.

@unrandomsam Of course Zelda will sell systems, but if it comes too late, it may be too late to save the system. I no longer feel as though Mario Kart and Smash Bros can turn the system's fortunes around, and while Zelda potentially could, it has to come before the WiiU is given up on (by the general populace) as a lost cause.

This gave no incentive for someone to invest in the WiiU. The only unannounced game is a sequel to NES Remix, hardly a system seller. The potential for the WiiU is dwindling lower and lower, to the point where it almost seems Nintendo has given up on the system. One thing is for sure, they Cannot skip the E3 press conference this year if they want any hope of the WiiU not failing completely. They have to utterly knock it out of the park at E3, or else the console truly is doomed. Publishers are pulling support left and right, and so far there's only been 5 first party games announced for this year, with only 2 having firm release dates, one of which is coming next week. If Zelda does not come this year, I fear the WiiU will be too far gone for even that to save it. There's no hype for the system anymore, and the deeper the perception is that the system is a failure, the more likely it will become one.
Nintendo needed to blow us away with this one, turn that negative perception around, and show what potential the future has in store for the WiiU. This direct did none of that.

Re: Nintendo Ordered to Pay Royalties on 3DS Sales For Patent Infringement

While I know he isn't a patent troll, from what I understand Tomia showed their technology to Nintendo, but Nintendo went with Sharp instead, yet they are being sued for using Tomita's technology which they did not use. Unless the wording of the patent is vague enough to encompass and supersede Sharp's patent's, it doesn't seem like Nintendo would be infringing.

@JesusAcHe Don't get carried away. It will certainly last a few more years at least, but even the Wii, Nintendo's best selling console ever, didn't reach a decade long lifespan. I would be surprised if we get through 2016 without hearing of any plans for the WiiU's successor.

I very much disagree that Nintendo tends to mix things up on threes. Typically threes return to original gameplay style, whereas twos veer sharply from it. Mario 3 had a lot more in common with Mario 1 than either had to do with Mario 2. Look at the difference between the Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, and a Link to the Past. Same goes with Metroid, Metroid 2, and Super Metroid.

Re: Analysts Weigh In With Estimates for Wii U Fiscal Year Sales

I feel at this point it is next to impossible for Nintendo to meet their projections. 9 million WiiUs and 100 million yen by April, when in December it's only half that, does not seem to be feasible. It makes me wonder if Iwata will be stepping down as he alluded to if the projections were not met.

Re: Video: Nintendo of America 3DS Holiday Commercial Asks "Why Do You Play 3DS?"

@Zyph The WiiU had a ffull year to itself with no next gen competition, and it totally squandered it. Every time Nintendo doesn't take advantage of some period to advertise or sell the WiiU, some people keep saying it's smart of them to hold off, so they can take advantage of the next period. Then the next period disappoints, and they say the same tings again. 2013 was supposed to be WiiU's year, but it failed to compete against the curren gen offerings. Now the next gen systems are launching, and Nintendo still hasn't given a convincing argument as to why people should buy the WiiU! People keep saying things like people will buy it once it has good games, but Pikmin 3, Rayman Origins, and Wind Waker HD have not brought it anywhere near the level of sales it needs to be competitive. Super Mario 3D World lookss fantastic and many say it will boost sales, but an Intergi survey found an abysmal 1% of gamers want a WiiU this holiday season! I love my WiiU, and don't want Nintendo to scrap it, but at this point I doubt it can recover. Nintendo has absolutely no chance of achieving its projected 9 million sales by the end of the fiscal year, not when it's made less than half that in a full year, most of which were within the first few months of launch.

With the subheading "BARF" I expected a scathing review of a terrible game, yet there was far more praise than criticism. I'm not implying that I think it's a bad game, never having played it, merely that the subheading was misleading.

So it's a very tiny minority that imports that drastically hurts sales to the point where companies don't even want to localize because everyone who'd want it would already have it? You are contradicting yourself here, unless these importers are importing thousands of the same games at a time.

Re: Video: Nintendo Releases Its E3 Wrap-Up

They skipped over Bayonetta 2 extremely fast. That game seems to be the only one that pushes the Wii U's limits graphically. It even stands up to the best of what Xbox One and PS4 had to offer. Strange that most of Nintendo's first party offerings look more like up scaled Wii games than something truly next gen, considering that Platinum has shown it is capable of such.
Overall, I was rather disappointed with this E3 from Nintendo. Mario looks evolutionary rather than revolutionary, I expected more from Retro, and Wind Waker denied the inclusion of the missing dungeon(s). I am excited for Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8 though.
