The Switch isn't the only thing that's been updated recently. Nintendo has also released an update for the system's Parental Controls mobile app, designed for Android and iOS devices.
According to patch notes via Perfectly Nintendo, Version 1.13.0 addresses a few issues and requires 18MB of free space. Below are the full patch notes:
- Implemented bug fixes
With this app, you can monitor play time, decide what games are allowed to be played on a console, restrict certain features, and customise online features. Here's a description from the Nintendo website:
It’s only natural for parents to have questions about their kids and gaming. That’s why Nintendo Switch has parental controls that let you set rules for using the system—so you can spend less time worrying and more time having fun. While some parental controls are available on the system itself, the free app gives you even more options.
You can find out more over on Nintendo's official website. Do you have this app installed on your mobile device? Tell us down below.

I use it all the time but more importantly I like the monthly updates on time played and top games played.
I wish they would add individual playtime limits per account.
Yeah, I use it purely to track some stats. it's kinda fun to look at daily play times and the end of the month recap is cool.
@Joekun Yes! It’s so annoying if you have more than one child and they are different ages etc, having them all on one account.
Great app. I use it all the time for my sons Switch. Being able to set and immediately update play time allowances is a great way to adjust behaviour!
I use the mobile online app for Animal crossing, the voice chat is pretty good, and it's a lot easier sending messages using your phone than the control pad.
What do you mean it still exists? I use it all the time. It’s the only way to get a monthly playtime total

Does this update block big-boobied tiger Pikachu memes?
@Silly_G Sadly, I think they'll leave that to the next patch.
I use it for the kid’s switch. Kids not sharing like civilized humans, parental timer is moved to zero allowed minutes. If I feel the kids need to go outside, time allowed us moved to zero minutes. What’s that, your room is a mess and the pets are not fed? Timer is moved to zero minutes. When done while playing a game, it gets their attention. Lol.
God we need some new game announcements.....
@Joekun I wish they gave the option of locking accounts so that they'd require a pin to unlock similar to PS4 / Xbox one. Don't need my son's friends messing with my account data.
I think this is a great app. One of the few online features Nintendo has done really well. I monitor both of my boys and see what each are playing and restrict specific rated games.
It's a great app but a proper profile sign in would be nice. That way there could be profile-specific time limits as suggested above, and it could keep people out of each other's save files. There's been a lot of Stardew Valley related drama in my house.
@Shworange : Parenting done right.
"It still exists"?
I use it nearly everyday — from granting more time or to change allowed games in whitelists.
Best news so far this year
@erekose200 just make sure the kids have their own profiles and it tracks the stats independently for each user. This of course is only applicable if little Timmy selects the correct profile when launching each game
@sid77 That’s not the issue though. The problem is that the system ignores individual profiles when counting how much play time to allow. If you want the kids to have an hour each, and one of them plays for an hour, everyone is locked out unless you enter a manual override. On the PS4 you can set play time differently for each individual so it’s much better.
@johnvboy - I think you have got this confused with Nintendo Switch Online app. I believe (correct me if I am wrong) this article is about the parental controls app! (Do agree though, it is a great app nonetheless.)
@Tamago,
I am always confused on here fella, think you are indeed correct though.
