Re: Animal Crossing Director Talks More About Happy Home Designer and amiibo

wayward

What direction would I like to see Animal Crossing go next? How about a cooking game; random fish will be dropped by your newly opened resturaunt and you have to cook them up to order.

Want to practise a specific dish? By scanning one of the newly released fish amiibo you can procure the materials you so desperately desire and filet away!

Re: Nintendo Submits Trademark for NES Controller

wayward

@Stubborn_Monkey NES-NX Both share N. Let's break the rest of this down.

E is the fifth letter of the alphabet. S is the 19th letter of the alphabet. So
5+19=24. What is the 24th letter of the alphabet? NES RE-RELEASE CONFIRMED!

Re: Review: Etrian Mystery Dungeon (3DS)

wayward

I absolutely loved EO IV, but haven't played a mystery dungeon game. I'm glad to hear that this is a mostly positive mashup with strong favor towards the Etrian elements, and that it's lacking a story mode with locked in parties. Sounds like it will be a great title to hold me over until Etrian V.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shows Off Monado Teamwork in Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

wayward

@S3OL I really hope it doesn't take until Nov, because I'd bet money that Zelda U releases on November 19 (in the States). If that's the case I won't have time to get to X until 2016.

And although it's unlikely, I hope that Nintendo releases a guide for Chronicles 3d so that I will have incentive to finish it on the Wii.

Re: Donkey Kong Grabs a Place in List of Highest-Grossing Arcade Machines

wayward

Judging by the first paragraph of the article, the list seems to be of how much profit was generated by operation of the cabinets, rather than the amount of cabinets sold. That, and it would be hard to believe Mortal Kombat made more profit for the manufacturer's by selling 24k cabinets vs Donkey Kong's 132k cabinets sold.

So, this list is slightly swayed by the amount of money that was charged for playing the game; Something like NBA Jam might have charged up to $2.00 for one game, and Pac-Man $.25.

Re: Talking Point: The Time Is Right For A Nintendo Phone

wayward

Great points by all the skeptics in here. Nintendo does, indeed, have a long history of changing their business and has only been invested in video games for the last 30 years, but they would not stand a chance in any stretch of the imagination in the phone market.

There is nothing new or unique that can be done in mobile that would wouldn't be substantially cost prohobitive. The patent portfolio held by rival phone makers alone would immediately require a team of lawyers; Nintendo would also have to reach out and ink deals with service carriers, unless the author of this article thinks they should also build their own mobile towers across the globe. It would be a massive undertaking with infinitely more risk than potential reward. And with how conservative the Big N has been with its momey, I'm glad they continue to eschew this market.

Re: Feature: How We'd Like to See amiibo Used in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

wayward

@brandonbwii Exactly what I was thinking. It's strange that people think of only having room for one set of data means that the amiibo are locked from doing anything substantial in multiple games.

The data could be consistent across multiple games. The amiibo could offer better assistance as a cpu ally or a larger challenge as an opponent in varying genres, depending on their level. Anything that has multiplayer can use the Smash save data for similar purpose.

The true question is, how willing are Nintendo to put all of these extra characters in their games? It could, again, be template data that they write once and use in all of their future titles. Post-patching outfits and rewards should not exemplify their plans going forward if they develop from here on out with amiibo in mind.

Re: Rumour: Has Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Been Cancelled?

wayward

I'm in the crowd who are fans of Fire Emblem, but not Shin Megami Tensai. As such, and with how I personally felt Radiant Dawn was a letdown, my hype for this game is nil. I really enjoyed Path of Radiance, but other than that wouldn't mind if Fire Emblem stayed on handhelds from here on out.

Atlus has been letting me down on a regular basis this entire generation, to the point that I'm skeptical about even Etrian Odyssey V. So, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo has had a hard time working with them and getting a crossover up to their quality standards. 4chan is a complete toilet though and it's disheartening to see it's backed up sewage spill into this site.

Re: Review: Tengami (Wii U eShop)

wayward

It is indeed disappointing that this game doesn't utilize motion controls, thanks for addressing it in the review. Going to add this to my wish list until I get some discounted eshop cards on Black Friday.

Re: Expect To See More Spin-Off Titles Like Hyrule Warriors In 2015, Says Miyamoto

wayward

I would really like to see a No More Heroes game set in the F-Zero universe, and a pikmin themed katamari damacy. I'm not sure if Nintendo is planning on just throwing more of their ip's into third party franchises, though, or if they're planning on making more Eshop indie style cheap games like Mario vs DK and NES Remix. I'm of course hoping for the former.

Re: Feature: Five 'New Things' We Want in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

wayward

A boss battle mode would be pretty cool, and work around the big character problem. You could get Ridley, Master Hand, Giga Bowser, Bulborb, Rayquaza, etc and fight in 1v1 battles on the Final Destination version of stages (Possibly hp battles only as they may be too large to smash).

It would make a nice distinction between this version and the 3ds game, or an awesome dlc pack. But it would probably be too much extra work to be viable as any option.

Re: Mad Men Football Shows Off Its New N64-Inspired Sports Uniform

wayward

The only thing in that reel that looked n64-ish was the headgear on Washington's face. Not absolutely terrible for an indie pre-alpha, but by the progression of the shots that running animation looked god awful. I wish the developers luck though, as I would with most any (even shallow) consumer friendly endeavor in the video game business.

Re: Junichi Masuda Talks Pokémon Snap and Listening to Fans

wayward

It's simple: Include snap features in the next coliseum game. Make it a side thing to do like they have in every new pokemon iteration... Like beauty contests and the movie editor. It would do well to flesh out a coliseum game, as the ones on gamecube felt slightly lacking.

Re: Preview: Going Retro On The Go With Ultimate NES Remix

wayward

It's too bad that more games didn't make it into the 3ds version, but no one will cry over missing titles like clu clu land and nes golf. Those challenges felt like the worst kind of filler that you had to slog through to 100% the game.

Keeping the replays is in the leaderboards is great; I would trade miiverse for leaderboards of any kind on the U version. If I didn't already have both titles I would definitely grab this on the 3ds. The minigame challenges seem more suited for handheld play anyway.

Re: Super Smash Bros. on 3DS Lacks Circle Pad Pro Support Due to Processing Power Limitations

wayward

@Yorumi
Donkey Kong 64 and Zelda Majora's Mask required a hardware upgrade to the N64 to be playable. On top of that, there were numerous wii games that required a hardware upgrade to the controller to play.

Nintendo does this sort of thing often. The 3ds doesn't physically have room for expansion, though; Which brings the necessity of a new model into play. I think that this is definitely the best scenario as well, because of this transition we get a more powerful handheld that won't be forced into the HD era. This way games stay cheap to produce and more niche genres stay represented.

Re: Interview: We Loot Image & Form For Insight Into SteamWorld Heist

wayward

It's really great that the developers seem to be having an orgasm of ideas and concepts for this game. March is just six months from now, so I hope they can cram all these gameplay elements into a concise package by then.

Either way this is definitely a day one buy for me. I love everything I see in this interview, and Dig was a really great game so I have confidence in Image & Form. You really don't see many indie turn based strategy games (on Nintendo systems, at least) so I can't wait to see what they have in store for us.

Re: New Fighter for Super Smash Bros. to be Revealed on 14th July

wayward

Maybe Sakurai finally caved and let Miyamoto put Popeye in. For a character to get a big reveal like this it seems like it would be from another third party franchise. As much as I love him, it would be a letdown for this to wind up being Groose or a similar obscure Nintendo character.

Re: First Impressions: Hyrule Warriors Is Zelda, But Not As We Know It

wayward

Definitely excited for this. I haven't played many games like this since the passing of the Gamecube; I enjoyed Mystic Heroes, Gauntlet, and Spartan Total Warrior back in the day. Found Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper cheap last year but didn't like the Chinese setting... So If this is mindless fun with characters spanning the entirety of the Zelda franchise, I'm all in!

Re: Hex Heroes Hacks Up Kickstarter Goal

wayward

Backed it for a few reasons. Mainly, it's a good indicator of the Wii U's install base that an interesting concept game that utilizes the gamepad can be a success on a crowdfunding site. Also, it's amazing that it's taken this long to get a real time strategy game onto consoles; the genre has been almost entirely PC exclusives for the last 20 years.

I just hope the team can pull this off well, and that the multiplayer aspect isn't a hinderance to making this a fully realized game.
