Fall Guys finally stumbled onto the Nintendo Switch, Xbox and other platforms this week as a free-to-play title and it seems it's already paying off for developer Mediatonic. According to the game's official social media account, Fall Guys' free release managed to hit 20 million players in just 48 hours.
Here's the announcement on Twitter:
While the launch was a successful one, there were some teething issues along the way - with reports of server problems. Fortunately, these issues were resolved relatively quickly.
Fall Guys now also includes full cross-platform multiplayer and full cross-play support. Here's a sample of our review:
"the Switch version offers a solid way to play if you're looking for some barmy 60-bean battling and the barrier to entry has never been lower.'

This is simply amazing.
(Also haven't commented in a while lol)
That's a lot of naked bean fellas.
@SteamEngenius ...with punk bands. and that "down the middle" pattern. lol
Dead game, huh?
@JakedaArbok Yeah. It's really dead.
Perfect fit for switch!
Is it good? Not sure if it looks a little manic
@Screen Yeah! We all need a few more platformers in our lives
@Samwise7 Fall guys is AMAZING. You should really try it out, it's super fun!
Yes I got two dubs!
This new season is really fun, and the bp is really good, just please do something about the overpriced item shop!
I had a fun time with the little that I played.... but those server issues put me off entirely, along with a bunch of Switch exclusive quirks like the 2FPS beans. If I ever get a PC though, instant buy, no question (though since it's free now, I suppose it would be an instant get?).
@JakedaArbok
I don't think Fall Guys was ever "dead" but its playerbase was very small in the months prior to becoming F2P.
The Switch framerate leaves something to be desired, but I've been having fun with Fall Guys overall.
@Snatcher Yeah, let us buy more things with kudos!
I hope it stays high; I'm having lots of fun and the low-match-time for the several different types of matches helps a lot.
So do you need NSO to play, even though the game itself is free?
@OwenGamer22 No. you dont need to pay NSO to play Fall Guys or any free to play game
@jikflet @OwenGamer22 I haven't tested this myself, but I did have a buddy say that he was unable to squad up with friends online without an NSO subscription, but it worked fine with randoms.
In my opinion this is the best free game that’s come to the switch yet, I’m having so much fun playing it
Everyone was calling Fall Guys a dead game, but I knew bringing it to Switch would bring new life into it! Nintendo has the highest fanbase of people clamoring for cartoony 3D platformers, and Fall Guys is essentially a battle royale version of that--with Mario Party elements as well. It's the perfect fit, and I expect the game to have more longevity here than on PlayStation.
I also think going free-to-play and adding crossplay were both really smart moves. I would've paid $20 for the game, and I do admittedly find the micro transactions pretty gross (the Monkey Ball costume is available right now, but the only way to get it before it's gone in 3 days is to spend money because there isn't enough time to grind). But in terms of being a long-term success, I do think it was the right move for them to take.
I always wanted to try Fall Guys since it first came to Switch, and it's exactly as fun as I expected it to be. I'm not as good at is as I thought I would be, though, considering 3D platformers are my forté. I wish the physics were toned down a little to make the game less random and more competitive (this game has worse tripping than Brawl, I swear), but I know the ragdolling is what makes the game funny for a lot of people and probably contributed to it becoming a viral sensation.
I really want to see this game outlast Among Us, as I just think Fall Guys is infinitely better and much more deserving of the spotlight in 2020. Better late than never, though. My one big complaint is that the game frequently crashes at the end of a match right before you're given your reward points, which is really annoying. Hope they issue a patch pretty soon to fix that, but otherwise, the game looks and runs surprisingly very well on Switch.
Great game, map rotation could be a little better. I'm getting burned out of the same level over and over again while there are several other levels that have only come up like once or twice. But overall, I've been having lots of fun with this one. Along with Cuphead, it's one of the few internet sensations that I think really deserves all the hype.
Been having a blast playing with my daughters and others with Fall Guys. We'd been waiting for this to hit Switch for a long time. One of my girls plays on her laptop, the other and me on our Switches. Personally, I rather like the janky nature of the other beans running around at wonky framerates. It just adds to the silliness and fun for me! The several different modes play really similarly, which is kind of a shame, but the variety of different maps and styles that play out is a ton of fun (though there's been lots of shouting and swearing, its all been in good fun). We've already had a few bouts of time where we log in to run a few games together, and the next thing we know 2 or 3 hours have passed. Its just pure, addictive, good old fashioned fun! My biggest complaint, I would say though, is how slowly slowly slowly the pass exp bar gets filled unless you are winning every match. The exp gain seems totally off with how many levels they've got built into the season pass. But its still been a lot of fun so far, and I expect we will continue to enjoy our time with it.
I downloaded day one and left it in there, today I heard a masive scream coming from one of my kid's room, they were playing together and having a lot of fun, that was great coming from a dead game 😉
Considering the game is free to play, I don’t really have a problem with the switch version. Gameplay is fun and the frame rate of the other players doesn’t really bother me that much. Honestly I kind of find it comical when the other players are sliding instead of walking.
@jikflet AWESOME! Thanks for the reply, dude, might give this a go sooner or later
@GamingBread yeah I am a bit disappointed that I have so many kudos because all my crowns got converted but I can’t use them on anything, makes me regret saving my crowns for a skin I really likes
I don’t like how the monetization is literally just the exact same thing as Fortnite, but I get it
I have yet to enter a single game of it it constantly looks for players and when iz gets to 60 it just blocks the counter to the seconds its curently at and then searches again... Tried reinstaling reseting tje queue it doesnt help
@Highlar I noticed that too, the XP is almost exclusively focused on the quests
Looks like Fall Guys didn't go through much a fall after all with all these players coming in.
Was fun for the first few hours but got pretty boring already
This will probably drop about 90% of its players soon since this game is so rage inducing.
Rather than micro transactions,
I reckon advertisements while you wait for the next round might be a better way for them to go.
@Highlar the seasons are long and require a ton of exp because they want you to be playing every day, that’s why the bar moves so slowly. Intentional.
I kind of feel it's unfinished. More a Wii graphic experience than what I'd expect on a Switch.
Had looked much forward to the game, though.
Somewhat disappointed.
One thing, from those 20 million players over there, definitely it wasn't me.
I am Anti-Free-2-Play games practice.
@OwenGamer22 No, you don't need NSO for any of the Free-to-play games.
Fun game. Glad it came to the switch but let's be honest, it's the worst version of the game. If you have any other choice play there.
@JakobU
If you are playing Fall Guys for next generation visuals you are playing it for the wrong reasons.
@Anti-Matter
I'm usually right there with you, but Fall Guys may be the only F2P I enjoy simply because it's just goofy fun. Being able to dress up your character is nice but not needed to still get fun out of the game.
@Anti-Matter so why comment then? You’re very keen to push your thoughts on everything you don’t like to people here, almost to the point where you expect everything to be catered to you and you alone.
My son was playing with his cousin yesterday, he came to after and said, ‘I didn’t know Fall Guys was a rage game!’ 🤣
@Andy77mk
Wait, I think I know you.
You were the same Andy something from the last time I saw you. 🧐
@Anti-Matter - my point remains, regardless of whether or not you block me.
You sit on this site acting like every decision is meant to solely cater to you and you alone.
You’re extremely ignorant of other peoples needs and wishes to the point it annoys other people on this site. We all agreed a month or two ago when you kept going on and on and on about not liking football and only wanted boxing in Switch Sports, and here you are again adding nothing to the discussion by saying you don’t like games like this.
Well guess what? Plenty of people do. The world doesn’t revolve around you. It’s about time you learned to accept what other people want. You seem to be an extremely unpleasant individual.
@Snatcher hence the reason why it's "free" in the first place 🙄🙄 urgh 😠
@huyi I get it’s free, and I know it’s silly to complain about currency in a free game, but I think it’s going to far and they are taking advantage of new players by re selling bp items that costed kudos before hand.
And even if it’s free, doesn’t make it free from criticism, the item shop is overpriced, it cost like 20 bucks for something that used to be free in the past, and you can only get 200 kudos a day, so your going to be grinding for about two weeks before you can get something with kudos, if you haven’t played before.
The game is still fun tho. And that’s what always matters in the end.
@Strictlystyles Slowly is one thing. This season pass bar goes quickly up to 15 or so, then turns positively GLACIAL in the pace it takes to get anywhere. And there are...what...100 levels to the thing? It makes it feel like more than just a "play everyday" situation, because even playing every day it feels like it can be hard to go up even one level a day.
This is a great business model.
Fortnite alone = $ 5,4 thousand million earnings (2021)
I love to play it with my GF, she's on the Xbox and i'm on the switch on the couch, sadly the switch version looks awful but i guess the framerate is stable
Could've been worse on Switch, but I'm enjoying it. Even by losing I laugh my butt off, something not many games make me do.
Fall Guys is mostly simple shapes in pastel colours, how good do the graphics need to be?
Been loving this on Switch. Currently playing on my original PS4 account and a new account on Switch, and can now also play together with my GF. I'm a massive fan of Fall Guys and urge anyone on the fence to give it a go, is some of the most fun I've ever had with a game, and that's saying something!
@Highlar if you’re playing everyday and hitting a few of the tasks/quests whatever they’re called it goes by fast. It was kind of the same thing before it went free where it seems like so far away but you can finish the seasons easily with time to spare if you login and do all challenges
Lost all my PS4 progress (not that its much) but I wrote support and finally got them today on my account! Really happy with Fall Guys on the Switch. It's the perfect game for winding down in bed after a stressful day.
I enjoy the actual gameplay but my god the F2P microtransaction ecosystem (i.e. hell) is everything I loathe about modern gaming, it takes so long to earn anything through actual gameplay in order to push people into spending money on the blasted game when they could have just charged people a decent sum (that they would have gladly paid!) rather than this toxic abusive situation we got.
It's Epic's greed, they saw a popular game and thought they could pop another feather into their cap and it stinks. I dread to think how many kids and vulnerable people have been goaded into spending money they shouldn't have because of the scummy tactics at play in this game.
Man, 20 million players in 48 hours compared to Ninjala's... what, 9 or 10 million in a year
Jeez, that game failed incredibly quickly. Wish I could refund the first chapter of story mode
