Re: Deals: Get 10% Off Switch eShop Credit And Top Games In The Nintendo Life Store Sale

@rjejr Well on my side they showed up as a fund transfer instead of an online purchase.
Jankiness aside, the codes were processed in mere seconds, I was able to redeem them, and I only got billed 90% of the usual value.

@ryancraddock Thanks again for the savings Nintendolife (well-timed with the 3DS/Wii U eShop closures ), and I look forward to more sales/specials like this as you build-out your online marketplace.

@rjejr I'm glad to hear that it wasn't just me.
Working in software, I've come to realize that the people behind the tech matter a lot more, and from my past 12 years of using Nintendolife, I believe that the site is run by a well-intentioned & passionate team who are mostly just interested in sharing their love of (Nintendo-focused) video games.

Anyways, I tried again during my lunch break and this time it worked! (..but it was strange that by bank needed me to approve the transaction. +1 for PayPal support next time.)

Re: This Stealth GameCube Mod Allows You To Play With Any Bluetooth Controller

Hmm, I had been thinking of picking up a few extra Wavebirds to play with friends, but given that the official ones are now selling for ~$75 (with receiver), this mod is looking pretty enticing.

@DTfeartheBEARD I've heard about those converters, but from my experience, the Digital->Analogue->Digital signal you get going out to the TV is not as clean as using a DOL 001 GameCube with a digital HDMI adapter.

@farrgazer It looks like this is mostly a re-packaging of the open-source Blue Retro project which supports analogue triggers, rumble, and even pressure-sensitive A & B button support (for Nintendo's prototype GC controllers). Also, it looks like you can assemble your own external version of this and create adapters to use it with quite a variety of retro consoles and do other crazy things like connect at least 10 controllers simultaneously.

Re: Hands On: We Test Our Cheeks On The Herman Miller X Logitech G Embody Gaming Chair

@Ziondood Working form home during the pandemic, I can definitely understand the need for proper back support. After two months of sitting in the free chair I found by the roadside, my back would leave me feeling a bit geriatric by the evening.

Fortunately enough, I was offered an employee discount on a (non-gaming) Embody chair through work, and since then, I can sit for 8-10 hours without feeling it in my back. It does take some getting use to, but the chair seems to be designed to discourage bad posture (like slouching).

I realize this might not be the case for everyone, but if you find yourself sitting in the same chair for enough hours in a day (and have aches from doing so), then it might be worth keeping an eye out for something similar on the used market. From what I've seen, they're almost never cheap (compared to a standard $100-200 Staples chair), but then again, you only get one spine. For myself at least, I would much rather pay for a better chair than hospital fees/physio.

Re: Video: The Tiny Graphical Glitch We Can't Unsee In Super Mario Maker 2

Hmm,
@AlexOlney This makes me think that there might be something wrong with their anti-aliasing solution.

TXAA is a pretty cheap way to smooth out an image (ie. nudge the camera a fraction of a pixel each frame, and then blend the last few frames together). Usually, the movement of the camera is so minimal, the refresh rate is high enough, and enough samples are used, that the jittering is almost impercievable.
Perhaps your new 4K TV is too aggressively sharpening-up/de-ghosting the image? Either that, or Nintendo needs to have a talk with someone on the rendering team.

Re: Nintendo Fan Group Spreads The Christmas Cheer By Replacing Local Boy's Lost Switch Console

@Arcamenel I see where you're coming from.

Growing up, I had friends/neighbours who repeatedly broke/lost their DS', and their parents would keep replacing them. (I think one went through 3 and another had 6.)

I always got a little frustrated when this would happen and they'd say something like, "Oh well, my parents will just get me a new one!"
I get it's good to not be materialistic, but there's something to be said for appreciating/valuing what you do have.

Re: Feature: The 15 Best Nintendo Switch Games at E3 2018

Seriously?!

Hollow Knight, FE: Three Houses, and Daemon X Machina aren't really on the expo floor (aside from Treehouse coverage).
If you're going to mention DLC, then Splatoon 2's Octoling expansion should also be on the list.
Oh, and Ninjala (I even saw Bill Trinen stop by that one).

@muhep
@Trinexx

Yes and Yes I was really hoping to see the standard-sized "new" 3DS released in other colours. My ambassador 3DS has also been through quite a lot over the years (circle pad and shoulder button problems as well) and I've been holding out to get something that isn't white or pastel. I've even thought about buying a white one and then swapping the plastic pieces with ones from Europe/Japan!

On another note, I'm happy to see all the price drops. I'd been holding out on Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Lego City; Undercover, so I might pick them up this winter.

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Needs To Sell 2 Million Copies To Make A Profit

shinesprite

@kamikazilucas Still WAY too high. In the days of the Wii, retailers were paying $35-40 per copy of a game (so 60-70%).
...and then besides manufacturing and shipping, the distributors take their cut.

I honestly think its more reasonable to say that Nintendo gets 50% (+/- $5) of the retail price of their Wii U games.
...but then again, they probably make more on what they sell in their official store in NY and through the eShop (but they also have server/payment processing fees).

@Damo Well I'm glad to see that NOE is taking care of him.

@Ryu_Niiyama Remember, this is LA. I suspect they'll hold on to the moblins, guardian, and food/cooking pieces; but the more generic stuff (eg. rocks, trees, grass and castle pieces) will probably get sold and re-used.
