@BloodNinja They're on a different node (16nm, I think), using a different fabrication process and from a different vendor (AMD for ps5 & XSX|S, Nvidia for switch).
So as long as the fab slots them in, they're good on chips Also, last year when they had shortages they revamped their supply chain, so that shouldn't happen again, barring something crazy.
@stuartgipp Don't know if the team is aware, but your new Audi ad auto plays music on mobile. Really annoying to be scrolling and start blasting a commercial mid article.
@JuiceMan_V @HypnoVike I have a friend who's super into it, so I'm still open to picking it up, but would probably want to use a weapon where I feel I can move around quickly. Any recommendations?
Everything I used felt kinda sluggish. I don't mind slower combat, if I can manage the encounter with care (Dark Souls), but it felt like only I was suffering under those restrictions, not the enemies.
What's interesting is how many different things people can mean when they use the shorthand rogue(or often rouge -_- )-likes.
Some mean liking (or not) procedural generation, relatively high difficulty, consequences to failure such as permadeath, focus on gameplay over graphics (Rogue being ASCII art), dungeon crawling and more.
I wouldn't say the market's saturated, more good games are a good thing, but I can understand how some could get tired of the mechanical descriptor, just like Souls-like and Metroidvania are heavily used.
That said, one of my favorite categories of wildly different games because of what I said earlier about how many different things can be meant by roguelike - Rogue legacy, dead cells, fury unleashed, Hades, all excellent. Very curious to give this a go.
Let's be real, if a Switch Deluxe launched, Virtuos and Panic Button would go back through their port catalog and update the games they've done to take maximum advantage of the new hardware.
And that would be awesome!
Would love, if the deluxe happened, if other studios hired them to do deluxe optimizations, too.
@robr yeah, I see what you mean. Since last comment gave Sega ages Shinobi a go, and didn't have the same feel. I have The Messenger in my backlog so I'll reprioritize it and give it a go. Last time I had this itch I went with katana zero which I really enjoyed too, though it felt a bit more Hotline Miami-ish.
@TheWingedAvenger Wow, thanks for the comprehensive list! Finished Cyber Shadow today, so I'll run through your list and see what's available on 3DS and/or switch.
I got in a nostalgic mood a couple weeks ago and ran through 3DS GG Shinobi. Was itching for more of that style of gameplay and this really hits the spot.
Smooth design, responsive controls and a perfect learning curve. I'm really enjoying this one. Favorite Switch game of 2021 so far for me.
Switch has sold ~20M units (EDIT: in EU, hat tip @datamonkey).
If we assume a 1% reporting rate, with 25,000 reports we're at 2.5 million issues (and I'm guessing it's higher than a 12.5% failure rate).
I've personally gone through a set of Joy Cons, and recently had my first pro controller right stick start drifting on me...but I also put 2000 plus hours on my Switch just last year.
Hope that Nintendo is forced to offer free repairs. Their distributor in SG does not have a free repair protocol
I don't think this is particularly likely, but this list is only physical sales, right?
Perhaps there are confounding factors that mean that PS owners (and XB) disproportionately purchase digital, or Nintendo owners disproportionately purchase physical.
For the Wave 1 rewards, I completed the required 6 missions and missed out on the rewards. Now, you need to complete 15 missions, I have 8/20 completed, but 7 are time locked / completed...so maximum I can get is 13 of the required 15...making it impossible for me.
Lame.
Sooooooo, 75+ million units in the wild, and they're making 6 pin sets available at a time -_-
Sure, and I'm not trying to argue our start anything. Just trying to understand if you would still say BotW is a good game, it's just not for you?
For example, I like supergiant's games, so I bought transistor, but I didn't enjoy it. On a fun scale, I would say for me it was 5/10, but I can step away from my enjoyment and look at the game and say it's well designed visually, mechanically, runs well, etc. And so might be a good game for someone else.
Doesn't mean you scale has to change, just want to understand.
It's sad, I have 25 out of the 50 but have only played 18 and beaten 2 (Mario 3D All Stars [full 120/120/241] and A Short Hike).
@anti-matter Just wondering, on your rating scale are you only rating fun on a 100 point scale, or do you take other things into account? I can understand someone not loving BotW, but it's difficult to imagine you saying it's a bad game, factoring in graphics, audio, design, etc.
Just curious, no arguments here. Different strokes for different folks
I didn't have a WiiU, so this'll be my first time picking it up. Pre-ordered the day it was announced, so I'm looking forward to more details.
I guess it's one thing that is good / I like about re-releases or re-masters. Barring exceptional circumstances if the game reviewed well on other platforms generally going to review well. The switch, of course, being a slight exception when receiving current gen ports.
Concur with comments, I was on the fence but picked up the complete edition on sale. Really, really enjoying. ~30 hours in. It's not as good as, but has that BotW feel, and that's good enough for me. I find Hermes super cringe, but the environmental hunting and puzzle solving gameplay loop is very satisfying.
I'm really confused (as it seems others are) about what they are invoking demands for censorship for. Are there original sources, NL, to support their claim regarding death threats and a non-PR statement that summarizes what the actual 'complaints' are, or do we only have Top Hats' statement to go on?
@RyanCraddock Can I recommend that one of the links on the page be to the actual eShop page (even if a region-specific, likely UK one), rather than an empty NLife game page?
Uhhhh, what's the database dump you used for this? Pretty sure hollow knight silksong isn't out yet...
I don't mind combing through the pages and pages of titles. One man's poison, and all that.
I do mind NL not cleansing it's data before expecting readers to go through 44 pages of ratings. (The last 6 of which are empty). That's pretty unprofessional/lazy. Unreleased titles should not be on this list, or at least not major ones.
I have noticed that my Switch has crashed slightly more than normal, but I assumed it was the weak porting job for Grandia. Hopefully I experience general stability improvements.
Would be some massive changes over the last year. Look forward to an updated graph through holiday 2020, because we're comparing Chinese numbers to t-1 year numbers.
Re: game awards, I think I'd be more interested if I felt there were games I hadn't heard of that could win or get nominated. For all the crap the Oscars gets, part of its indie bias means I hear about interesting movies through the nominations I'd never heard of.
@Savino I think the example in the clip above is at least debatable.
A charitable interpretation (as presented elsewhere) is that it's a poorly written self-referential joke, which is my perception as a mixed-race Asian living in predominantly (~80%) ethnically Chinese Singapore.
Though I agree racism is racism, what constitutes racism is clearly subjective as we're talking about interpretation. So if some (of various ethnicities) can perceive a statement as not racist, do we need to impute a bad faith motive to the movie?
Or would you consider this under the category of irrelevant, it's racist?
Also, how do you handle situations like the Uncle Roger youtube character by Nigel Ng? To me, his caricature of Asian stereotypes is racist, but clearly he doesn't believe so as an Asian man of Chinese descent? It seems like the world is more complex than racism is racism, despite us being in agreement on that statement
@MaxiPareja Out of curiosity, on what basis would you say that? And who would be in position (in your opinion) to make judgments on what is it isn't racist? Only CCP censors?
@Savino Not to defend the writing, but do you actually believe an Asian person making an (unfunny) joke about their ancestry is the same as vilification of an ethnic-religious group, or is that hyperbole?
Can I confirm here it's meant to be version 1.02? I got Lilith yesterday, but can't force update the version past 1.02, so I'm assuming that's correct.
@Tyranexx agreed. If you've got assets worth 500k and can't be assed to store properly, or assume someone else will subsidize your hoarding, the problem's in the mirror.
@SwitchVogel I obviously can't speak for anywhere else, but in Singapore at least it's relatively difficult to find Switches still. During lockdown, they were getting scalped for +30% from retail, and the animal crossing version is a crazy hot commodity: retailers were bundling with their unsold garbage stock and selling out.

Worst case scenario is that something leaks and Nintendo cancels it like that Netflix story earlier this week.

Re: Talking Point: So, What Are The Chances We'll See A 'New' Nintendo Switch In 2021?
Can we start calling it the Switch Deluxe? Would make me happy, the Switch line acknowledging its Wii U heritage.

@TheWingedAvenger good to know, never had a Sega home console until Dreamcast, so wasn't aware. Will have to look up the non-Xbox ninja gaiden games.
Re: Review: Shadow Gangs - A Tough-As-Nails Shinobi Tribute That's Worth Your Time
That's funny, because Cyber Shadow gives me serious game gear shinobi vibes. Might have to keep an eye on this
