The top cover didn't peel so I guessed that flexing the rear cover to remove it cracked the paint which ultimately led to it peeling some months later

I still believe it was removing the rear cover to put in a larger memory card that caused the paint to eventually flake off. If you get the Samus model don't remove the back cover

My MH4 Special edition started to peel, so did my buddies

That's what I did but there's a caveat to it, my portable battery is capable of outputting 1a but it will still only charge the 3ds while it's off or in sleep.
If the 3ds is on the charge indicator flickers on and off, not 100% sure if this can cause damage so I'm a little bummed with my purchase.

A lock on system wouldn't work here. Imagine one large monster, you need to break a specific part of the monster. 4 players all lock onto the monster hitting it in the same spot, the dude with the great sword smashes the other 3 player into the next area!

For us Western fans voice chat would be a welcome feature. I can understand why it's not included, this Japanese company makes this game for its Japanese fans. With it being such a hit over there people meet up and hunt together which is by far the best way to play. Meanwhile over here in the west I know 2 friends that will be picking it up but we wont get to meet up often to hunt together.
