Re: Random: It Looks Like Soccer Star Cristiano Ronaldo Might Be A Super Mario Odyssey Fan

@MattFox Dude, I love(d) Ronaldo! And there IS someone saying that it happened without consent: the plaintiff. Unfortunately, tragically, we don’t know how and until recently haven’t had the collective will to effectively prosecute sex crimes that aren’t perpetrated by masked midnight attackers. I know we can do better. A lot of people are working very hard to make that happen. Until it does, I think it’s incumbent upon me to listen to women when they speak up about this, and to push back against fellas who seem a little too eager to presume and defend the innocence of wealthy and powerful men. Thassall. I don’t feel sad. I actually feel great about it.

@MattFox I know we’re in a heated argument on another thread, but I seriously thought long and hard about what would be the funniest title to mention instead of Skyrim. But seriously I am so pumped to play this game. Last night I didn’t have enough free time, so I just booted it to the title screen and listened to the epic music and that alone doubled my anticipation.

@Captain_EO “person i like accused of something bad, must be given benefit of the doubt!” Because there are way more instances of people being falsely accused than there are of sexual violence against women going underreported, uninvestigated and unprosecuted. I implore everyone to look at the statistics on this. And to watch Nanette on Netflix. You don’t have to be an evil attacker to be a rapist. These blurred lines have put assaulters at an advantage and their victims at a disadvantage since the beginning of time. Ronaldo can be an extraordinary footballer and a man who raped someone. We can hold two opposing ideas in our heads at the same time. I don’t understand why we wouldn’t hold our (male) idols to high standards of conduct rather than give them license to do horrible things to women without consequence. Unless, of course, that’s secretly how we all wish we could behave...

Ran straight to my Switch and picked up Hyper Light Drifter, Celeste, Snipper Clips and The Messenger. What a windfall for me. So glad I held off on those till now. Seriously considering Skyrim. I love BotW and everyone says Skyrim is an incredible open world RPG but I’m worried it won’t have the sheer fun factor of Zelda, that it’s a much more serious game.

On a whim, I picked up Runner 3 for a measly 10 bucks on the switch eshop, down from 30. Have y’all played this? It’s fantastic. The level of care and attention that went into this game is truly impressive. The humor is outrageous, and it comes at you from every inch of the screen. Then there’s the top-notch and memorable voice-over from Charles Martinet (Mario). If you haven’t picked this one up, now’s the time. The deeply discounted price is an absolute steal. You won’t regret it!

I’ll be doing a fair amount of hacking, slashing, and ground stomping in Dead Cells. And lurking around the eshop agonizing over whether to pull the trigger on Hyper Light Drifter and n++. I’ve been acquiring games faster than I can play them.

I also have this interactive game called Cat, which is currently meowing at me to put down my Pro Controller and toss a mouse.

I've been playing Dead Cells in dribs and drabs but recently, for some reason, I started thinking about it while at work and couldn't wait to get home and dig in. The excellent music, sound effects and visuals and the top-notch gameplay - both exploration and combat - are really doing it for me. Leveling up is also simple enough to keep an arcade-game-lover such as myself engaged with the system.

Dark Souls Remastered. What a masterpiece.

Moon-gathering in Odyssey. Couch co-op with my wife in Overcooked. Filling in my Hyrule Compendium in BotW. And maybe a match or two of Rocket League.

Also really enjoying The Video Kid. Sound mixing is truly awful, but gameplay is an absolute blast. If I ever want to pick up and play something for five minutes this is my go-to.

Happy gaming y'all!

Dark Souls, still waiting to do a deep dive into character customization to get a real start on the adventure, even though I know it has little bearing on the gameplay.

Bought Okami HD on sale... how absolutely delightful and immersive!

Sonic Mania for some retro satisfaction.

Played through the demo of Planet Alpha and seriously considering the purchase...

Happy weekend to all, and happy gaming!

Just bought Dark Souls and started it last night. That intro is INSANE. I must say I’m a little shocked at how stiff the combat is, though I suppose that’s deliberate on the part of the developers to up the challenge. And maybe BotW has spoiled me. The atmosphere and visuals are top-notch, though, and I’m hoping this weekend I’ll reach the point of no return when it comes to gameplay immersion.

Otherwise having a blast, and a much needed ease of gaming tension, aggressively acquiring moons in Mario Odyssey.

Happy gaming everyone!

I’ve finally dug deep into an indie gem I’ve been neglecting, the truly immersive and diabolically tense Dandara. I haven’t seen much love for the game, and true, it’s a short experience with no real replay value beyond the pleasure of mastering her movement. But hoo boy, it’s crazy FUN once that finally clicks and you’re zipping and blasting through those gorgeously drawn caverns. The music and sound design are top-notch. And it’s refreshing to play a game wherein you aren’t a white man holding a gun or a sword. I can’t recommend it enough and at the price ($7.99 when I picked it up) it’s a no-brainer for anyone interested in original indie experiences on the Switch. Anyone else out there got love for Dandara?

I’m a bookseller of nearly 20 years and I’m quite familiar with the urge to own something new knowing full well you haven’t the time to read it. There’s something very comforting in seeing a shelf (or entire room) full of books waiting to be read, just as there’s comfort in booting up my switch and scrolling through a library of un- or under-played games. I think it’s more than acquisitiveness. Plus there’s the added bonus of supporting the artists as they release their work to the public, not when it’s discounted down the road or forgotten entirely.

Re: Switch eShop Sales For Blossom Tales Are Twenty Times Higher Than Steam Sales

@BigKing this is an interesting theory and I would love to see some evidence backing it up. I would think a larger factor is people with new switches who perhaps haven’t owned a console in a long time, stocking their libraries with every great indie game that’s been published in the last 10 years to play on the go, which is still a wonderful novelty. I hadn’t owned a console since the Dreamcast came out on my birthday 19 years ago, and it’s my renewed enthusiasm for gaming combined with a golden age for independent (and retro!) titles that has me making snap purchases for under $20 on the eshop.
