Re: Gamestation Registering Customer Interest in Project Café

moosa

@3 That evidence is not conclusive. I'm not saying I'd be surprised if it was called Project Cafe, but we have literally no official word about it besides "it's being made" (no duh; I can't believe people were even treating that like big news) and "we'll show you at E3."

Re: You Won't Get a Nintendo Console with a Buttonless Controller

moosa

I think it's pretty darned ironic that the questioner asked whether any of the appealing qualities of "touch devices" would make it to Nintendo consoles... considering the DS was launched years before touch phones and tablets, along with touch-based gaming, became mainstream. LoLs.

Re: Nintendo to Promptly Work On 3D Video Service After Upcoming 3DS Update

moosa

@19 You really shouldn't talk bad about games just because they're not your favorite genre. There is a lot of built-in functionality in the 3DS already. It's very easy to see if you play with one and aren't trying so hard to find a reason to complain about the planned features not being here yet. All of the built-in software is full of interesting nooks and crannies. Nobody claimed it's perfect, but it's certainly not lacking in features.
It's amazing for a website full of Nintendo fans how quickly everyone forgets that the primary function of these game machines is to play the games we purchase for them. Web browsing and Netflix is nice, but that probably shouldn't be the reason you buy the console. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Nintendo's decision to update the console over time, but we all know how gamers love to complain when they don't get what they want right now.

Re: Nintendo to Promptly Work On 3D Video Service After Upcoming 3DS Update

moosa

@11 You're being a little ridiculous. The 3DS has had a load of features from day one, right out of the box. It's almost overwhelming at first. And it has quite a pile of decent launch games. I know how much gamers love to complain, but you really shouldn't talk bad about games unless you've at least played them all before (I'm making the assumption you haven't).

Re: Review: Inchworm Animation (DSiWare)

Corbie, a lot of us were already sold on this when we read about the feature set. But you neglected to address one big issue. How does this play on 3DS?? Of course, there isn't much you can say about this before May... .

Re: 3.6 Million 3DS Consoles Sold Worldwide

moosa

I'm still a little annoyed at people complaining about the launch games. Yes, I do understand that it's not as appealing without a Zelda or Mario game that everyone needs to buy. But I own SFIV, Pilotwings, and Ridge Racer and they're all great games. I'm sure Shadow Wars is a lot of fun too, Rayman is always a classic, and a lot of the other games may not appeal to everyone but would probably make some people very happy. It's definitely not a "BAD" launch, but I know people will continue to complain about it without having ever actually played any of these games.

Re: Rumour: Wii 2 to Cost $350, Support 3DTVs, Out in October

moosa

The funny thing is, IGN is soo sure that these rumors they're reporting are actually truth. If Nintendo actually comes out with this thing, I doubt it would even be a home console. Maybe something you'd find in a hotel or an arcade setting of some sort... I don't know. None of this makes much sense. You can expect Nintendo to do the unexpected, but not anything unreasonable or wasteful. Unless Nintendo developed some magical new technology that lets them slap screens and such on things for a couple dollars a piece, I can't see this showing up in the home console market.

Re: Rumour: Could This Be the Next Nintendo Console?

moosa

@Corbs, sure I have. But considering how much the shown "controllers" with their large, hi-res screens, high speed wireless communication, and small processors built-in would cost themselves, the idea of the console having other controllers to purchase just makes it all more silly.

Re: Rumour: We May See a New Nintendo Console at E3

moosa

Will they announce a new console? Sure, maybe. It's a completely logical time to do so, and you don't need a legitimate "inside source" (not that those are ever legitimate) to predict that. I don't believe there's any credibility to any of the other rumored features.

Re: Get Animated at Inchworm Animation's Impending Release

moosa

I never used Flipnote... but this exports to Flash? Really!? I was afraid that these creations might end up trapped in the game data forever (far from ideal for something you'd put so much time and work into as animation), but then I saw the export options.
The only thing I have beef about: this is for DSi, and I don't have a DSi, but I do own a 3DS. I have a feeling the difference in display resolutions for the DSi and 3DS would cause issues with this type of application. How unfortunate is that?

Re: Review: Samurai Warriors: Chronicles (3DS)

moosa

1) It shouldn't surprise anyone that there's widely differing opinions about this game, especially if you claim to "understand" the series so well. This has been a "love it or hate it" series since the dawn of time. Not everyone is into it, and it has nothing to do with "understanding" it.
2) A reviewer's score should be based purely on how much he/she enjoyed the game, and not everyone is going to appreciate the same things the same ways. It's a good thing to have variety in opinions expressed in different reviews, not a bad thing.
3) "Koinuma: The games in the Samurai Warriors series can be played by pure button-mashing. We check to make sure you can beat them just by punching a single button. Even people who don't play action games at all can enjoy playing them as long as they keep pressing buttons, so I hope even people who aren't very good at action games won't hesitate to play it." -the game's director. It's OK if the game involves button mashing. I'm sure it can be played without button mashing as well. And maybe hard mode is different, but it doesn't really matter.

Re: Nintendo Said Unto the Patent Office: Let There Be Wii Light

moosa

I came up with this. Years ago. On April 1st at about midnight.
I wrote an "April Fools" news article about this being one of the big, as yet unannounced features of the Nintendo "Revolution" for a small fan site where I was a staff member. It was about this "ambient lighting" that the console would fill the surrounding walls with colors and such to reflect or compliment what was on screen, and referencing Miyamoto's quote about wishing games could extend beyond the borders of a television and filling a room. I also added additional lights to the controller itself in my concept. It was the best April Fools article ever, and others agree.

It makes me feel a bit tingly that Nintendo is patenting this now. Such patents rarely amount to anything that's actually produced, but that's beside the point.

Re: PlatinumGames President Saddened by Decline of New Ideas

moosa

@13 Miyamoto created Nintendogs and Steel Diver. He might have created something else in that time I can't think of. But Miyamoto's job isn't to continually create new IPs, nor is he the only person to do so within Nintendo. You probably wouldn't believe how many different IPs Nintendo owns right now.

Re: Review: Rayman 3D (3DS)

moosa

@Corbs @Zach Sorry for getting off topic; it was interesting.

I just realized that I can get Rayman 2 Revolution on PS2 for $5 on eBay (including shipping). And I believe that version has even more content. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I won't be buying this version at all.

Re: Review: Rayman 3D (3DS)

moosa

@Corbie It is only my opinion after all. And I wasn't trying to say you're doing anything wrong, only sharing my thoughts really.
I'm not sure what to think about the racing game thing. If you really dislike racing games, should you really be the person to review them? Personally, I enjoy all genres of games and don't even have any favorites, so I suppose I am different in that sense. The only genres I never really have any interest in are sports sims and other simulations like flight sims etc., and I wouldn't feel comfortable reviewing any of those games. To be completely honest, if I was interested in a racing (or any other genre) game, and saw a review from a reviewer that I knew wasn't into racing games, I wouldn't be too interested in what they had to say about it.

As far as kids games go, yes, they should be reviewed as best you can simply out of necessity for the sake of the kiddos, but honestly the opinion of adults means VERY LITTLE in terms of what those little kids will enjoy. Kids will go crazy over games that I would cringe over. For the same reason I wouldn't want to read a review of a racing game written by someone who doesn't like racing games, a review written by an adult for a game created for small children isn't going to be worth much. It would be a different story if a reviewer was to incorporate the actual opinions and reactions of children though. In any case, where NL has made it their job to review every downloadable Nintendo game, I'm not complaining about anyone reviewing children's games because that's what you have to do. But I wouldn't say its at all ideal.

To be clear, I'm not trying to say anyone is doing anything wrong. I'm simply sharing my own thoughts and opinions about reviewing games.

Re: Review: Rayman 3D (3DS)

moosa

@Corbs In my opinion, you should be careful about reviewing games that way, because no game (no matter how good) will please everybody. When it comes to the final score, my belief is that it should be a direct reflection of how much you, as the reviewer, enjoyed yourself while playing, and nothing more or less. I definitely do not think that ending up with a score that matches the Metacritic rating is an ideal to aim for (I'm not accusing anyone of doing this intentionally), because I believe if every reviewer is doing their job well there should be a range of opinions to reflect the diversity of taste. If some people loved the heck out of it, their scores should reflect that.

That being said, there are certain games that I've absolutely loved but I couldn't rate extremely high because of a number of flaws that held it down. Maybe the good parts would be so good in spite of all the bad, or I would fall in love with the fiction of the game and all the ways it inspired my imagination. But in the end I would have to score it based on how much I enjoyed myself as a whole, and those annoyances and frustrations would pull down the experience. Some games that were like this for me that I can think of off the top of my head are the Zone of the Enders games and some of Treasure's games. I can see how Rayman 2 could be one of those games, because as I said in my impressions above, there were a lot of flaws but some of the good parts could be so good.

Re: Review: Rayman 3D (3DS)

moosa

@Corbs I find it interesting that you consider this your favorite launch title when you've scored a number of them higher already.

From what I remember from playing this game on the N64 all those years ago, this game had a number of flaws and it's share of frustrations. I didn't see anything like that mentioned in this review. But there were also moments that just seemed... "magical," or something. Something about the level designs that just made me say "wow." By the end of the game I was left with a pretty positive impression because of that, even though some of the parts frustrated and annoyed me.

I think it's unfortunate that Ubi didn't put any real effort into trying to revamp the game, given that it had some clear flaws upon release, which was all of those years ago. But I still have those fond memories of this game, and I think some who can appreciate an old fashioned 3D platformer style who haven't yet played it could find something to love in this.

Re: Review: LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (DS)

moosa

Damn you! Why isn't this the 3D- Just kidding.

I get the feeling that the 3DS version will probably have the same gameplay as this and the same graphics as the PSP version. I mean, how many different "Lego Star Wars III" games can you make?
