Re: Feature: Wii Controllers - What Could Have Been

moosa

LoL guys these are just raw concepts. Raw = unrefined. Just to get the ideas across in as straightforward a manner as possible.

Honestly there isn't anything really new here. The Classic Controller has that clip on the bottom that everyone figured would attach to and hold the Wiimote some day, but that never happened. I think it would have been pretty difficult to use the pointer and classic controller in tandem without it feeling awkward.

Re: Review: 3D Classics: Urban Champion (3DSWare)

moosa

@Kid_A: It's not a great game. It's a simple, fun game. I bet at least 75% of the kids here enjoying their old chuckle about this game have never even played it. There actually is some subtle timing/strategy involved if you actually want to play well, the sort of thing you just have to feel out by playing, which is a now-lost characteristic of the retro days. It's too bad that it's $5- I'm not going to pay that much for it- but if it were a cheap $1-$2 this would be a fun little time waster with some nifty 3D voxel graphics.

Re: Sonic 4: Episode II Not Due Until 2012

moosa

I already thought this episodic release was rather dumb for something that was supposed to be one game. Waiting over a year between releases just makes it seem even more ridiculous.

Re: New Wii is No Smaller Than Before

moosa

Guys, it's only "inferior" to those of us that have Gamecube games, and those of us who do already own a Gamecube or the original Wii. The reduced price offsets it. There obviously is a market for people who would prefer to pay less for the console and not get features they won't be using anyways. If you're not a part of that market, just don't worry about it.

Re: Investors Urge Nintendo to Develop for Smartphones

moosa

@WaltzElf "actually, Nintendo's sole purpose is to make money.
It's a corporation, not a hobby."

You're very wrong about this. Nintendo is full of passionate artists and creators. Iwata himself, the president of Nintendo, is one of them. His right hand man is none other than Shigeru Miyamoto. As I said, making a profit is very important, but that's not remotely the sole purpose of the company. The purpose of the company is to create new and exciting gameplay experiences, and make money while doing it. This is absolutely the truth.

Once again, Nintendo is a unique company.

Re: Investors Urge Nintendo to Develop for Smartphones

moosa

WaltzElf, you're missing the fact that Nintendo's sole purpose is not to make money. Making money is obviously very important to them as a company, but that absolutely does not mean they'll do absolutely whatever it takes to simply turn the most profit. An example of a company like that is Zynga; a FAR cry from the way Nintendo operates. Don't forget who the president of this company is. Nintendo is a very unique company.

Nintendo knows that in order to do what they want to do- that is, create new and innovative gameplay experiences- it's important for them to be able to create the hardware along with the software. They value their ability to do their part in controlling the direction in which gaming goes. Giving up on producing hardware would mean giving up on a significant chunk of their core values as a company, and something really drastic would need to happen before they would ever resort to that. They'd never do that just for a quick buck.
The idea of Nintendo creating their own consoles as well as games for other consoles/devices just doesn't make sense. It might net higher sales for certain software titles but it would destroy their own hardware sales. GAMES SELL CONSOLES, no matter what the idiots in the industry think.

Re: Investors Urge Nintendo to Develop for Smartphones

moosa

This makes me a little sick. A few great games aside, smartphones are terrible gaming devices. I hate what they've done to the industry. "Nintendo should give up on making the best possible gaming devices and experiences and just go after the money on smartphones, herpa-derp."

Clearly this is a sign of the times.

Re: Koizumi Talks Super Mario 3D Hub, Caps and Replay Value

moosa

Even Super Mario World had you replaying levels for different reasons. Most notably to find all the different exits. It's not a bad thing; it means the levels are more complex and less linear. To say Mario World's level designs were ingenious feels like an understatement.

Re: 3D Classics: Urban Champion Coming to Europe Next Week

moosa

There's some fun that can be had with Urban Champion. It's very simple but not entirely terrible for an NES game. Of course, once the media started going on about a game people weren't familiar with being terrible, it spread like wildfire and now everyone believes it without even having to play it. Granted it's not exactly the kind of game that grabs you and pulls you in so playing it likely won't help much anyways.

Oh and look, voxels.

Re: Metroid Celebrates its 25th Anniversary Today

moosa

I checked out your Metroid Prime Pinball review... Completely underrated! It's low on content but it has to be the most addictive game I've ever played. It's different from any pinball you've ever played before. Ridiculously fun!

Re: Talking Point: Your 25 Years of Metroid Memories

moosa

My first Metroid was Super Metroid. I had no idea what it was back then but I was pretty blown away. I never beat it (back then) but I got through most of it.
My second Metroid was Metroid II. I never finished that either, got frustrated not being able to kill some of those boss metroids, but it was great overall. The spider ball was tons of fun.
Then, I got Metroid Prime on the Gamecube at release. I was really excited about the game for a long time, but nothing could have prepared me for it. I've yet to play another game that's blown my mind the way that game did. I'm not sure if I ever will.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Makes Bold Move with the 3DS

moosa

Holy crap. If it was worth it to you to buy it for $250 in the first place then you have NO RIGHT to complain for that choice you yourself made. I don't think any big company has ever done anything so drastic as give away 20 games for free as compensation just to make you feel a little better. Add that to all of the other 3DS stuff Nintendo has been giving away for free so far...

But nevermind me, just keep on whiiine whiiine whining.

Re: 3DS Mario Titles Land in November and December

moosa

I don't really care what they call them. Nintendo is bringing out the big guns for the 3DS though. Will the huge price drop and all of these top-quality games Nintendo is pushing out, I sure hope they get the sales they rightly deserve.

Re: First Impressions: Kirby: Mass Attack

moosa

@warioswoods: True, a Kirby game can be a great thing with or without the copy abilities. But the best Kirby game (Super Star) went all out with them.

Luckily, Kirby Wii appears to be the first true successor to Super Star.

Re: Capcom Apologises for Poorly Worded Tweet

moosa

I guess it also needs to be pointed out that it obviously wasn't the development team that cancelled their own game.

Once again: this whole Dev Room thing was a funny way of Capcom trying to gauge whether there was enough interest for the game. Since the process didn't meet certain requirements set in place by Capcom in terms of the amount of fan interaction, Capcom determined the interest wasn't high enough and pulled the plug.
