@prw_88 Love that your only answer to someone getting harassed on Twitter is "why are you on social media?" And then saying that they might be exaggerating their problems.
Or first suggesting that you doubt that the harrasment is because of pronouns in their bio while just right after saying that they should remove them because those "are not necessary". I guess the Twitter "freeze peach" does not include having pronouns in your bio.
@babyThorman ah, yes. Fighting such distopian governments like Australia or Brazil. Not Russia, or China tho. Wonder why.
...Dude, really? Is that easy to convince people to simp for an incompetent billionaire that spent the days saying "concerning" at the most henious posts ever while tanking Twitter and firing thousands on Tesla? Just saying "freeze peach" is enough? What kind of free speech is he even advocating? What people is he defending that are apparently being silenced?
@Ristar24 Btw, looking back. It's interesting noone replied to you. Specially those insisting so much about being angry about censorship when the classic mode is right there. Interesting indeed
@SmaggTheSmug I hate how people just go by generalizations and that's it. Saying "the gaming press critize sex in certain cases while praising others" is a stupid argument since you are ignoring plenty of context. People were not praising the bear sex in BG3 just because "sex good". It was more of "they had the audacity to let players do that, cool!" kind of thing. By ignoring that context, you are not really showing the situation in a fair way.
Another thing to point out is that some people just have different definitions of what sexually appealing mean or when it goes to unconfortable territory. You are also being unfair by saying that people were just saying that sexually appealing characters are always bad no matter what. That was never the point either.
It is also true that there is a whole subculture in gaming (and anime) about demanding a... certain type of female character and the lenghts certain people portray it online can be very questionable. From being angry about a slightly longer swimsuit to complaining all women that do not look like that are ugly now apperantly, and they do that by writing a lot of posts that, as an outsider, seem very questionable. I want to think those press articles come from that confusion and not just wanting to do cheap clickbait but even still a journalist should have to do due diligence and go deeper than that to make a point.
@FrillsAran I still dislike censorship on principle, don't get me wrong. That didn't change. It's not like I like censorship. But the crowd of people that are being hypocritical about it by only complaining about certain types of censorship or even prasing censorship in certain cases made me really question every time I see someone online talking about censorship at all. Especially in the gaming circles and especially regarding topics regarding LGBT content.
The worse thing is that those people still claim to be anti censorship by ignoring cases of censorship they don't have any interest in going against or, in some cases, twisting the facts. Like, literally yesterday I found that some people are arguing that Nintendo keeping Vivian trans in the remake of Paper Mario TTYD is actually censorship somehow (despite Vivian being trans coded in the original JPN version of the game and being censored in the US one). Like, Nintendo keeping that dialogue in the remake would actually be them uncensoring something from the original game but because Vivian is trans coded in the original that is now a bad thing for them. These voices are not small either, I'm talking about multiple YouTube channels with a quite decent numbers of subscribers pushing these things. This has made discussion of censorship in videogames online so toxic that I can't engage with it in good faith anymore.
And about that mod my point is something similar to the one I just mentioned. I'm not against the concept of someone modding single player games to have their own personalized experience. It's just that mod in particular is designed to censor something from the game and people from those same circles I mentioned were really pushing for it while claiming that content shouldn't be in the game in the first place. And, even outside of those statements about them saying that content shouldn't be in that game (that the creator of that mod also did), making a mod just to remove LGBT content from a game... I don't want to made assumptions but like... come on.
At least you are being consistent about it and saying that LGBT content being censored is also bad. I wish more people would outright say that. Especially those that scream censorship so much online.
@Tobiaku And I'm giving me point of view here too. And seeing what I'm seeing, if you truly think that the anti censorship side is not full of hypocretes then I don't really know what to tell you. I don't want to call specific Twitter accounts because that would probably be against the rules but I find people like that, constantly. The case I commented earlier took me like two seconds to find multiple people like that. It's not like they are hidden.
I just don't get how it is best that the "opposition" considering what I see. This very reason is why, despite being against censorship on principle, I just can't really say it publicly online or participate in it's discourse. Way too people there are way too toxic or hypocritical.
And maybe it is too close to doing what I just said I wouldn't do but there is a retired old bigwig from a videogame company on Twiiter that is the prime example of this hypocritical anti censorship angle. From them is actually where I remember the other example of being anti censorship but praising the LGBT censorship in Spiderman in the middle east version. That's the closest I'm going to be to a more specific example. Pointing out a subreddit is one thing but I don't want to point out specific users.
@Tobiaku I never doubted you when you used that example, dude. I simply said that, in my experience, I've seen people that complain about censorship would ignore LGBT censorship or even be happy about it. And it's kinda annoying to me that you are ignoring that and assuming the "anti censorship" side is all perfect and such.
In my case, that game in particular (using that as an example since is the one that made me even more against this) was a little small games on GOG called "Omurice Next Time". A lot of it has been purged by GOG but the reviews were FULL of people insulting the devs calling the game "obscene" and such. The dev had to do multiple posts online calling it out. And after cheking posts people said about this game, I saw people screaming about how "obcene" it was and how could GOG even allowed it on their page while in other comments complaining about censorship.
I'm not saying making mods for a single player game for playing how you want is anti censorship. I'm just, once again, pointing out the hypocresy of being "anti censorship" while also promoting and playing a mod designed to censor the game.
The subreddit I saw the hypocresy the most is exactly that one you mentioned, yeah. That was probably the most extreme example of people that claim to be all anti censorhip but then make comments like the ones I mentioned. The rest was mostly arround the comments on r/Games or other gaming subreddits or tweets.
Also the fact that I can go to other places where those comments don't appear does not mean they are not there. The gaming comunity is FULL of people that are against LGBT content for instance. Even here, just look at ANY news in this very website that mentiones anything related to LGBT and go to the comments.
In my experience, people that claim to be anti censorship basically only care about censorship related to fanservice and anything else they don't really mind (and some other cases would even be happy if they are censored). And plenty of them are susceptable to conspiracies like the whole "women in media are ugly now" thing.
@brandonbwii Those people literally and unironically use Alloy from Horizon Zero Dawn as an example of "ugly" (a lot of times reusing a photoshopped image of her in order too). I hate how "incely" the gaming community is more every day that passes.
@Tobiaku Really? I went to subreddits that are known for screaming about censorship when it was revealed that LGBT content was removed from Spideman in the Middle East and plenty of them were actually happy about it, even making mods to change the region of the game just to play it without that content. Not a fringe opinion either since they got thousands of likes and eveyone saying the opposite got downvotted into oblivion or banned from that subreddit. And I saw the same sentiment in those YouTube channels or zones in Twitter. They were ether ignoring it or even being happy about it.
Besides, like I said earlier, if you are allowed to generalize all the "opponents" to the "anti censorship" crowd to say that they actually don't defend censorship of LGBT content then I can do the same with this side.
Also, LGBT games not being censored as frequently? There are entire countries banning all type of LGBT content. And even in countries where there isn't a ban, there are more challenges to publish LGBT media than you think.
I still remember a small indie game about a gay couple that was published on GOG that was reviewed bombed and had multiple forum threats spreading hate about it. Those people were calling for it to be censored and I'll let you guess what I saw they thought about censorship in cases of anime girls and their huge plot. I hate that hypocrisy and, like it or not, it is really prevalent there. That's why every time I see someone bringing up censorship about women having less clothes I don't really take it seriously.
@FrillsAran Look, even if I take the whole "all censhorship is bad and every instance of it should be critized" I just can't take plenty of people screaming about censorship online at face value.
I agree with censorship being bad but, just like how the discourse about how women are portrayed in media ended up with an extreme puritan angle, the discourse about censorship in media ended up complaining when any game releases with a women not being conventionally atractive. And if it is valid to generalize one group is valid to do the exact same with the other one.
And, yes, the "anti censorship" group ended up doing just that, Hence the whole conspiracy theory about how women in media are "ugly" now. Plenty of the people pushing that theory started with the whole being anti censorship thing.
There is also the case of hipocresy regarding the games that they complain about being censored. We had cases of videogames with LGBT content being censored, we had entire countries limiting LGBT in media and we had cases of games that tackle LGBT topics being review bombed and attacked online for it but that is, for some reason, usually not mentioned. Why? All censorship is bad, right?
@Captain_Toad You were the one who brought it up, dude. You mentioned SBI and repeated all the talking points people online that do the whole "anti woke" thing say about it. And now you are claiming you don't? Will you claim that people are "cancelling" you or "bullying" you next?
Listen, maybe my opinion is crazy, but judging the game because of a diversity consulting firm that the devs hired participating on it instead of... you know... what the game is a does seem crazy to me. Specially seeing the people that started the whole SBI thing.
We got to a point that instead of trying to claim that we have "forced diversity" based on the content of the game itself, just a consulting firm being on it is apperantly enough. Heck, I'm even seeing that the SUSPICION of that consulting firm participating is enough. Plenty of games accused by blue tick users on Xitter that had nothing to do with SBI... but had minority characters on it.
To me this whole controversy is just a way to more easily send hate to projects that certain people think it's "objectionable". Although, to be fair, it's not like it was that much harder before. The same people that started this whole thing are the ones that do reaction videos to media starting "females" and scream that the western civilization is coming to a close.
I mean... Remember the reaction before the new Fallout series came out? Hint: It had a "female" character in the trailers.
@HotGoomba We only need to have the blue ticks on the side of the users that scream "censorship" at this point. Seriously, every time there is a "controversial" post, the comments section goes from ok to Xitter quality. Love the ones screaming about the "puritans" on Twitter when comments complaining about those "puritans" are much more prevalent (and annoying) over there nowadays.
And the "controversies" from them get stupider every day that passes. I still remember when people went into rants about how Nintendo was "emmasculating" Peach because she looked different on the box art of her game. Nowadays on Xitter there is much more discurse about an apperant conspiracy that is making every women in media "ugly" than puritans screaming about posters.
To me, if they do the equivalent of a third version it should simply be a new physical realease 1-2 years later that includes the base game along all the DLC. Anything else than that it just feels off.
Even outside paying for the game twice, having to complete the game all over again just for the extra content they put along the way is definetly annoying.
@Clyde_Radcliffe It's weird because the game does not look like it is graphically intensive either. I assumed that it was because of Unreal Engine 4 because I've seen other games on Switch using it having similar issues.
The reason why that engine was used was probably because of the developer Good Feel. They seem to prefer that engine on Switch. Yoshi's Crafted World used it as well.
@Clyde_Radcliffe The technical reason is probably the use of Unreal Engine 4 in the game. Unreal Engine 4 can sometimes be weird to get stable framerates on Switch.
I'll get it... later. I'm still trying to catch up to a lot of games of last year. The end of the Switch is approaching and I want to get more niche physical games and smaller Nintendo published games before the price spikes.
Although it definetly looks good. Another one to add to my list.
Can't believe that this is a real thing. Kinda cool actually. All the legendaries being behind an obscure process would be annoying but just one after a long while of legendaries being just in a room to catch is refreshing.
That game was a really good one. Can't really say it another way, honestly. Just recently bought the physical version on Switch despite buying it digital years ago.
Wait... Wasn't like second hand games how stores like GAME made their money in the first place? Like, maybe other second hand stores and websites ate that part of the market too and are now just surviving on new games and merchandise?
@PinderSchloss Remember that what you consider "objective faults" can be not that for other people or not be big enough faults to bring down the game.
The critical response of ToTK was not the equivalent of some mid Marvel movie after all, it got quite a bit of acclaim from both critics and users.
It's not me defending Nintendo here. I'm just confused of seeing people already deep in the Zelda cycle so soon. We didn't even got to see another Hyrule with the new formula yet.
@PinderSchloss the movie is not even out yet and both BoTW and ToTK were commercially and CRITICALLY successful. Just because those games don't do what you specifically want, that doesn't make those games "braindead".
Why would Nintendo just up and abandon a formula that has gotten them both critical and comercial success just two games in (one being a direct sequel of the other)?
Even going back at the older games, Nintendo kept the OoT formula for 3 big 3D Zelda games afterwards (Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword) without counting their smaller handheld games that also took cues for that same formula. Was that "selling out"?
@-wc- love how you didn't answer to anything at all in my comment. You didn't even try. You just went "it seems you got really angry about me saying f***" and that's it. Despite me saying plenty more in that comment (and even then, my whole point was pointing out your were being a tad emotional).
And then afterwards you implied that there is a "tone police" in this comment section. Huh....
@Eggolor To be fair, I think what people mean with that comment is that Nintendo tried to get the FEEL of an open world concept looking at what the first Zelda game tried to achieve and not the formula already established. That's what I get at least after listening to what the BoTW devs wanted to achieve.
@-wc- "F off, Aonuma. I've been playing these games long before you took control. " (#8)
Amazing respectful discurse there. But, hey, apperantly it's all good because you didn't say it directly to his face seeing what you said here:
"yeah, i said it right to his face, you could see that he was insulted 🙄" (#203)
My whole issue tho is how you come across tho. That "f*** you" quote was from your first comment here too. It clearly shows to me that you are actually being "emotional" at the very least (unlike what you said in comment #148)
In comment #155 you basically said that you agree with someone saying that a more focused game can be "much better than a game that does a lot of things but without said focus". This says to me that you are trying to claim that open worlds by design are worse than linear experiences. Tell me how this comment says something different that what I implied if that isn't the case.
In comment #154 you said the following when someone pointed out sales numbers of Zelda open world games:
"couldnt be that they are on nintendos best selling platform in an age when videogames are more popular than ever ✌️"
Even if you add "fair is fair" afterwards doesn't change that you tried to just dismiss the whole sales argument implying the game sold because it is on Switch. Also, remember the fact that BoTW was a Switch launch title, that game had the job of selling people a new console. Just pointing that out.
It would also be a respectful way to discuss if you didn't imply that I apperantly read stuff that isn't there btw. The points that I directed at you were made because of the comments you wrote here and not quoting them word for word doesn't change that.
Also, btw, not every point about my comment was about you either. When I said "I still remember how people were incredibly tired of the OoT formula around 6 years ago.", yeah.. I wasn't talking about you.
I was just pointing out how I find funny how the "general community" (not the same people a lot of the times I KNOW, just like comment sections of videogame new sites) flip flops opinions so quickly. Even if that wasn't the case with you specifically, I could take your comment, change the quote to an Aonuma quote about Skyward Sword and it would fit to what people in this same enviroment was saying at the time.
To me, It shows how devs honestly should not just take the current negative take of their franchise and try to correct that since probably when they apply those corrections people would just want them to go back to the previous formula 6 years later all over again and claim that them saying the exact same things they listened from the crisism 6 years ago is apperantly bad now.
Oh and fun fact, Aonuma has been influencing the Zelda franchise for a LONG time, even with games in the style that you prefer. Just reminding you of that here since I thought it matters seeing what you said in your first comment here.
@-wc- I guess insults come from a place of calm and reasonable discussion, yeah? (You told Aonuma to f*** off, remember?).
Don't forget you basically saying that open world is always a worse design desicion than linear design. Which doesn't really sound like a way to respect other people's opinions (and is not true btw).
Also, love how sales are so maleable as an excuse. They can be use as a definitive point to avoid critisms "yeah, this pokemon game barely work but those sold like 20 million units so stop complaining" or can be dismissed completely as a point of discussion when inconvenient, like you just did.
The Switch selling a lot does not mean every game on it will sell 20+ million units. Skyward Sword sold meh for a Zelda game and was sold at the end of the life of the Wii, remember?
And before you say anything, yes, I know that people here used the sales excuse as a defense of ToTK, but people that have a different opinion than you are not a monolith so, please, don't.
I still remember how people were incredibly tired of the OoT formula around 6 years ago. Like, the same type of interviews done defending Skyward Sword linearity were met with the same type of vitriol and demand for change alongside of claims like yours affirming Aonuma was out of touch for not listening to them. It's curious to see at least.
I guess my point is, yes, BoTW and ToTK are actual Zelda games and I like them. Also, I see that backlash of 7 years ago in a much different light now. In a much more negative light. I now believe that developers listening to feedback needs to be incredibly curated due to the Internet always amplifying negative voices first. In other words, the Zelda cycle is back baby!
I expected the Mario RPG sales would be much less than Mario Wonder, especially with Mario Wonder so close to it, but damn. Hopefully it sold better in other places because, if we only consider UK box sales, Paper Mario the Origami King had a better launch. Which I know some people online would be worried about.
@Anti-Matter Bluey is an amazing show and very popular so the sales make sense. Kinda weird seeing a resurgence of licenced games after being dead for one generation of consoles at the very least. Also not surprised the majority of sales being on Switch either seeing we are talking about a Nintendo console here.
@SBandy1 Honestly, they did a good job with the port and the desition to delay it was worth it. Specially since we knew the date for a while instead of only coming out for PS5 and Xbox X|S and teasing a possible Switch port.
Looking back that was so... questionable. I remember there was a game that was released in PS4 and Xbox One and then the publisher basically asked on Twitter "we will put it on Switch if people ask tho" which is just... why? The game appeared on the Switch anyway less than a year later too so they could've just announced it at the same time as the other platforms like what happened with Hogwards Legacy, even if it released later on.
I don't know what's the situation nowadays for the Pokemon anime in the west but I still find weird how late it shows up. It's been months since that anime is out in Japan and they even finished the first story arc and NOW it releases in the west?
@Noxide ...it's a joke. Like... that phrase was literally a joke. The trailer that showed that phrase even did the whole "epic speech with music in the background that gets cut in the end with a joke" using this exact phrase.
You yourself said that she has actual motivations and emotional moments in the movie so the issue is that she is "too snarky" at some points? Is that all that it takes ? Like, maybe you are overexaggerating a little bit? A character being a girl, snarky and capable is enough to be a "girlboss" and therefore bad?
@Noxide what are you talking about? What even are your sources? YouTube comment sections?
What is even so wrong about movie Peach? That she wears pants in a scene? Is that what makes her a "girl boss"?
... May I remind people that we are talking about a design change in a videogame cover, we don't know her personality in the game yet aside from the trailer. People here assuming that she is somehow less feminine because of this feel off to me because the game is not even out and what we've seen until now just look like Peach to me.
And It feels so weird to me to see people saying that Peach has been "emmasculated" somehow because they decided to change her face in a cover art. In fact, this "trend" of people calling women character designs in videogames "too masculine" and "ugly" feels wrong to me in so many ways. Like... look at Peach in this new cover art and tell me with a straight face that she is ugly somehow, same with her design in the movie. I don't even see this change as a way to make it more "masculine", just the typical make a character look determined in the box art that is as old as time.
Fun fact too, Peach character design changed multiple times. Just saying for some people here that consider the mere fact of Nintendo changing their characters is a cardinal sin. Same with Mario, that also had multiple slight design changes over the years.
I'm not saying anything more about this afterwards but... ugh. I guess I should have expected this small war as soon as I mentioned this. I was just baffled by someone using unironically and unprompted the term "SJW" in current year. And now I'm even more baffled by some responses I got after.
Noone is complaining about this and there is no reason to imagine someone in your head that does that. Literally no reason at all. Just enjoy the ad and buy Super Mario Brothers Wonder for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
I personally love that Nintendo sometimes does pay attention to small niche games despite not selling Mario Kart numbers.
Games like Bayonetta Origins (which, yes, it's Platinum but Nintendo paid for it), Advance Wars, Famicom Detective Club and now Another Code are games that I honestly don't think they could get more than 1 million but I still appreciate their existence.
You know what? The Bluey show is good. And if the game ends up being an ok game for kids then that's great. Although, just like Peppa Pig, I wonder how would they translate a slice of life child show to a videogame.
@HeadPirate My point isn't that Microsoft should just let Nintendo and Sony beat them, is that they shouldn't be buying all their competition to avoid that.
Also, to be fair, all those Sony aquisitions are more vertical aquisitions than the horizontal purchase that would be Microsoft buying Nintendo and individually are much smaller than Microsoft's purchase of Activision alone. Why Microsoft didn't buy a bunch of smaller studios like Sony did and instead decided to buy the publisher responsable for the biggest selling game in the US year after year? Noone forbid them for doing that.
Your comment about how people should be happy Microsoft is buying other companies is rubbing me in the wrong way. Sure, in gaming, Microsoft is the underdog (the Switch in it's 7th year is outselling the Xbox X|S) but it doesn't change anything about what I said in my previous comment. Like, nothing at all.
For starters, they have enough money to outright buy their competitors. They are not a small company trying to get in the videogame console space. That is important context. The other two competitors in that space toghether would be unable to buy Microsoft while Microsoft alone could buy Nintendo tomorrow.
We also have the fact that horizontal aquisitions in a market as difficult to enter as that is bad for consumers and probably ilegal as well, like I mentioned.
Nintendo didn't need to buy Sony to get out of their Wii U slump and Microsoft shouldn't really need to either. They can perfectly be the "underdogs" without buying competitors. Sony started like that and same with SEGA.
I don't want to show off but I believe I'm a "thinking person". And this thinking person believes that what Microsoft needs to do to "shake things" is actually using the resources they currently have to increase their market share. Like Nintendo, a company much smaller than them, did.
And I'm not arguing for a small insignificant company to be unable to aquire other companies. I'm arguing for a company that could literally buy their competitor over night to artifitially win market share to not do that because it is bad for the market and the consumers (and probably ilegal).
And I don't care about technicallities about Microsoft still owning below 40% of the market share. Everything I said earlier is still true.
@HeadPirate So... I guess that you don't like how people are angry ONLY at Xbox for horizontal mergers and aquisitions. I mean... fair enough? I suppose Xbox is the one big on doing it at the moment so that's why people are angry with them specifically.
Like, Xbox bought Zenimax followed by Activision and then in emails we know they were even discussing casually horizontal mergers like Microsoft+Nintendo. I don't really blame people to be a little bit peeved about it. Even if Microsoft is not alone in this.
We could discuss how the system of capitalism that we have ends up with consolidation and how laws should be more focused on avoiding that instead of relying on decades old laws that weren't made for current time mergers but I don't think that's a discussion for this website.
But I believe that, even with current laws, mergers like Nintendo+90'sSega and Microsoft+Nintendo would not really fly. And we shouldn't let it happen in the first place. No matter if 90s Nintendo or current Microsoft had the resources to do it. Horizontal mergers like that are not good for competition.
How do you explain the third console maker buying up the second not having any effect on competition? Even in the current US judiciary it would be hard to explain. Although... I guess now it makes sense to see Microsoft insistense to lable Nintendo as not a "direct competitor".
Nintendo is also a weird case since it is the only one of the big three that is just a videogame company. Both Sony and Microsoft have other sectors in their company that gives them more money to act (hence the difference in value between them).
@HeadPirate I don't think people are surprised that companies are buying other companies. Nintendo is an outlier with buyouts and even them had cases of trying to buy other companies (like you showed). I think people here are more surprised about the nature of that buyout.
It's not the same when a big videogame developer buys another one or when a console maker buys a videogame publisher than one of the big three console makers buying another one.
Case in point, it's not the same if Facebook bought Twitter than an outside investor buying it. With the same logic, it's not the same when Microsoft buys Zenimax than Microsoft buying Nintendo. And that's without considering the fact that those companies are from different countries.
Horizontal aquisitions like that are by nature more scrutenized, specially ones of that magnitude. Mainly because in Microsoft buying Nintendo it would mean going from three console manufacturers to two. Nintendo buying Sega when Sega was still a console maker it would not have happened for the same reason.
@HeadPirate Phil himself said that a hostile takeover would be a bad idea and Nintendo said they do have tools against that. Besides, if they do attempt a hostile takeover to Nintendo, another of the big three console manufacturers, regulators are probably not going to like that. Specially since it is also doing it to a non US company.
Could Microsoft technically buy 51% stake on Nintendo? Yes, technically they could. But doing it against the current board and doing it to a company that directly competes with them in the videogame hardware space would not fly that easily.
I know regulators let a lot of stuff sly (mainly because competition laws in the US and EU+UK are extremely lenient) but even them have their limits. I still remember the whole NVIDIA+ARM buyout attempt.
Besides, I don't see Nintendo letting anyone buying them at the moment. They didn't let it happened during the GameCube or the Wii U era and they won't let it now.
@HeadPirate to be fair, as someone who does not read internal company emails that often, it looks... odd to see one of the big three, one in the middle of two huge aquisitions (Zenimax and Activision) just casually talking about buying another of the big three in a "random thought" email.
To be fair, this possible buyout wouldn't even fly in the US. Courts usually allow aquisitions like Microsoft buying Activision because they are not direct competitors, one console manufacterer out of the three big ones buying each other would be harder to pass. Not impossible (Disney bought Fox after all) but much harder. Add to that to Nintendo being a Japanese company, which makes it even harder.
Even outside of that, Nintendo didn't allow to be bought back in the GameCube days, when they were much worse money wise so I doubt they would let it pass now.
@VoidofLight What? The games are literally made to have impossible to complete Pokedex unless you have two consoles with two games or a friend. You know that, right?
Also, my point was that you don't need a server to upkeep to offer the option to transfer Pokemon to newer games and that was how it worked before X&Y.
Again, if you have a PAID service dedicated to the transfer of old Pokemon to the newer ones, then claiming all those extra Pokemon that they could include are "bloat" feels... off.
If they truly want to compleatly cut the National Dex, eliminate the service that is basically trying to get money of the idea of compleating all the National Dex (despite the games not having it anymore).
@VoidofLight Fun fact, before X&Y, the option to transfer Pokemon to newer games didn't require aditional charge and was more useful since it transfered Pokemon that weren't obtainable in game and it include all the Pokemon at that time.
For me, having a more defined mouth doesn't really replace that. Unless the animations are actually really good (which they aren't btw).
If you have a PAID service dedicated to transfer older Pokemon to newer games, then I don't think it is that farfetched to be asked to have a high number of Pokemon to take advantage of that service. If you truly want to reduce the "bloat", make a Pokemon game that looks tuly amazing with 300 creatures tops and close Pokemon Home.
They didn't do that so that tells me that the reason why this happened is not because of a desition to reduce the "bloat" and rather the fault of their unreasonable development times. They clearly still want to take advantage of taking Pokemon for older games to the newer ones (or at the very least the money that brings), hence Pokemon Home existence.
@Not_Soos I usually just pre-order when I get stuff like a collector edition or get the game cheaper. For instance, right now I have Mario Wonder and Mario RPG preordered at Amazon because I got them each for 46 euros.
And since I was going to buy them anyway and Nintendo games in Europe usually came out, increase in price for a while and then hover arround the 40-50 euro mark until the end of time, I just decided to preorder them.

@Ristar24 Btw, looking back. It's interesting noone replied to you. Specially those insisting so much about being angry about censorship when the classic mode is right there. Interesting indeed
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
@brandonbwii Those people literally and unironically use Alloy from Horizon Zero Dawn as an example of "ugly" (a lot of times reusing a photoshopped image of her in order too). I hate how "incely" the gaming community is more every day that passes.
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Review: Tales Of Kenzera: ZAU (Switch) - An Emotional Metroidvania That Plays It Too Safe
Re: Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Will Restore Missing Posters In Patch 3
Re: Rumour: '1-2-Switch: Flashmob Frenzy' Is Apparently Coming Holiday Season 2024
Man, you know? This is a good one. It's such a Nintendo move that I could see it happen. Then I remembered the date.
Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?
To me, if they do the equivalent of a third version it should simply be a new physical realease 1-2 years later that includes the base game along all the DLC. Anything else than that it just feels off.
Even outside paying for the game twice, having to complete the game all over again just for the extra content they put along the way is definetly annoying.
Re: Review: Princess Peach: Showtime! (Switch) - Peach Breaks A Leg In A High-Class Production
Re: Review: Princess Peach: Showtime! (Switch) - Peach Breaks A Leg In A High-Class Production
@Clyde_Radcliffe The technical reason is probably the use of Unreal Engine 4 in the game. Unreal Engine 4 can sometimes be weird to get stable framerates on Switch.
Re: Review: Princess Peach: Showtime! (Switch) - Peach Breaks A Leg In A High-Class Production
I'll get it... later. I'm still trying to catch up to a lot of games of last year. The end of the Switch is approaching and I want to get more niche physical games and smaller Nintendo published games before the price spikes.
Although it definetly looks good. Another one to add to my list.
Re: Review: Princess Peach: Showtime! (Switch) - Peach Breaks A Leg In A High-Class Production
@PlusFan Good Feel (the Kirby's Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Wooly Word/Crafted World devs)
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: Where To Find Meloetta In The Indigo Disk DLC
Can't believe that this is a real thing. Kinda cool actually. All the legendaries being behind an obscure process would be annoying but just one after a long while of legendaries being just in a room to catch is refreshing.
Re: Celeste Devs Making "Something Small But Cool" For 6th Anniversary
That game was a really good one. Can't really say it another way, honestly. Just recently bought the physical version on Switch despite buying it digital years ago.
(Still stuck on that DLC chapter tho)
Re: GAME Apparently Ending Physical Trade-Ins From Next Month (UK)
Wait... Wasn't like second hand games how stores like GAME made their money in the first place? Like, maybe other second hand stores and websites ate that part of the market too and are now just surviving on new games and merchandise?
Re: Editorial: Happy New Year From Everyone Here At Nintendo Life

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
Huh....
Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
@Eggolor To be fair, I think what people mean with that comment is that Nintendo tried to get the FEEL of an open world concept looking at what the first Zelda game tried to achieve and not the formula already established. That's what I get at least after listening to what the BoTW devs wanted to achieve.
Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
Re: UK Charts: Super Mario RPG Can't Jump To The Top Five In Its Debut Week On Switch
Re: UK Charts: Super Mario RPG Can't Jump To The Top Five In Its Debut Week On Switch
Re: Pokémon Horizons Anime Is Coming To BBC iPlayer Next Month (UK)
I don't know what's the situation nowadays for the Pokemon anime in the west but I still find weird how late it shows up. It's been months since that anime is out in Japan and they even finished the first story arc and NOW it releases in the west?
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Super Mario Bros. Wonder?
I messed up with Amazon and now the game doesn't arrive until next week.
Physical of course (aside from the collection aspect, it was also cheaper) and I had it preordered for months at this point.
Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art
Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art
@Noxide what are you talking about? What even are your sources? YouTube comment sections?
What is even so wrong about movie Peach? That she wears pants in a scene? Is that what makes her a "girl boss"?
Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art
Re: Random: Bowser Tries To Woo Elephant Peach In Super Mario Bros. Wonder Ad
Re: Random: Bowser Tries To Woo Elephant Peach In Super Mario Bros. Wonder Ad
@gcunit "SJW"? What? we are not in 2015 anymore.
Re: Video: Another Code: Recollection Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & DS)
Re: Bluey Makes Her Video Game Debut On Switch This November
You know what? The Bluey show is good. And if the game ends up being an ok game for kids then that's great.
Although, just like Peppa Pig, I wonder how would they translate a slice of life child show to a videogame.
Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo
Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo
Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo
Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo
Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo
@HeadPirate to be fair, as someone who does not read internal company emails that often, it looks... odd to see one of the big three, one in the middle of two huge aquisitions (Zenimax and Activision) just casually talking about buying another of the big three in a "random thought" email.
Re: Internal Xbox Email Details Desire To Acquire Nintendo
To be fair, this possible buyout wouldn't even fly in the US. Courts usually allow aquisitions like Microsoft buying Activision because they are not direct competitors, one console manufacterer out of the three big ones buying each other would be harder to pass. Not impossible (Disney bought Fox after all) but much harder. Add to that to Nintendo being a Japanese company, which makes it even harder.
Even outside of that, Nintendo didn't allow to be bought back in the GameCube days, when they were much worse money wise so I doubt they would let it pass now.
Re: Pokémon GO's Pokédex Is Now Bigger Than Any Mainline Entry
Re: Pokémon GO's Pokédex Is Now Bigger Than Any Mainline Entry
Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Has Already Topped Amazon's "Best Sellers" Chart In The US
@Not_Soos I usually just pre-order when I get stuff like a collector edition or get the game cheaper.
