@hillyarb I get from where the "I don't care about color of the skin of the characters" comes from but... I mean... There are people that do care too and it's not like these arguments about representation are done without any reasoning.
Why? Because western media has been really bad at going outside the "normal" representation (look at the quotes on the word normal, I'm refeering to normal as what's considered normal by the media).
Like, going back to Nintendo, why it took until Animal Crossing New Horizons (or Happy Home Designer if you count spin offs) to get the option to have another skin colour outside of the "default"? Why in a game like Tomodachi Life you couldn't have gay couples? And the thing is, people aren't allowed to point out stuff like that without being critized for being "pOlItIcAl" or from people like you that love to remind everyone how you don't care at all.
@Skeletor1979 There is gameplay from the E3 Treehouse. Maybe that could help you with your doubts. They did say they improved the counter but who knows if it's enough for people like you.
@Miu I don't think that many casual consumers care personally. I'm not casual at all and I consider this graphics arms race a bit ridiculous at this point. Although you are right in one thing, they need to optimize the games better if they actually plan to stay with base model specs until the end of the gen (something that it's sill probably 3 years away at this point seeing how well the Switch is selling).
@Madao I imagined that other user (the one my comment was answering) made a mistake with that number since the beggining (lower than I expected). It was a response and he put that number there. I should not have taken at face value. Sorry. Deleting that comment.
@Xiovanni Hm... You think so? Even in portable mode? I don't even know how that could affect the battery of this thing. I should look at the Switch emulation scene in more detail someday since I assumed it needed more resources.
@Crono1973 You don't need to download ROMS. And downloading roms of games that are on sale right now instead of buying them is... a bad thing to do for sure.
@Crono1973 Yes but no. They need for filling a catalog but those aren't the big selling ones. Besides, there is a reason why they went for indies this gen. Games with lower graphics, perfect for filling a calendar year when they don't have games. But the big budget, high selling games on Nintendo Switch are all from Nintendo instead of the big third party games. It has been like that for a while at this point.
@Miu Some people here screamed at my because I don't believe this thing will actually do much against the Switch (my opinion isn't "bold" enough apperantly) but I still think that's the case. And one of the reasons is that it feels that it needs tinkering to making it actually good. You know, install Windows, maybe extra memory with an SSD to make the games load faster (since there won't be actual physical cards) and don't forget all the drivers and configurations if you install another os. I mean, it can be used out of the box but it has Linux so it has it's limits already since a lot of games aren't compatible with it. And it only has like 64 GB of memory? The Switch at the very least has physical games that (for the most part) hold the majority of the game in there so you can survive with low internal space but this console is all digital so 64 GB (unless you use indies and such) is not much nowadays (although in that case you could use a microSD to be fair).
Sure, for people that know this stuff, it's not hard to change this but for casuals? Not a chance. This product doesn't seem to even be designed for a mass market because of this stuff. And that's putting aside how Valve is selling this product and not being avaliable in a lot of retailers. There are also a lot of stuff that I'm not sure. The weight, battery life with bigger games, the screen, the heat it makes... I heard stories with other powerful handheld PCs that suffered from this issues.
I get there were people sweepped up by the 10 daily Switch Pro articles but Nintendo showed that they honestly don't care much about power and since the biggest selling stuff in their consoles is their own games, they have even less pressure to do a more powerful device. I learned to just go along with it at this point.
@Crono1973 Nope. Just making things clear here. Since emulation is often used when people actually mean "downloading roms of the newest Switch games online for free and then emulating them". Those things are not the same.
@BrazillianCara Did you know I'm not BloodNinja? Because you put my username in the front of your comment when it was clearly not for my since my opinions aren't... "bold" enough I suppose.
@Miu It is a good piece of hardware. I mentioned that a plenty here. I just don't seeing 1) Competing with the Switch. 2) Gaining much mainstream attention. Also, yeah you can upgrade the space... But that costs extra money. Along with the dock that doesn't come packed with the system. Again, interesting device but because of all the little quirks (and how Valve is selling it) I don't see the casual market going all over it.
@BloodNinja I didn't called YOU stupid at ANY point here. Also I said that if you are in this website just to talk to people and don't enjoy Nintendo you can use Discord... What's wrong with saying that? And I didn't even bully anyone. At most I did passive agressive comments. Look who is "triggered" here, huh?
Nah, I should've blocked you from the start since you just nipick in every post possible anyway and then call it "bold opinions". Goodbye.
@BloodNinja But I thought the issue was that the Switch was not a powerful handheld tho... The Switch didn't sold 80+ million because it was powerful. Since the very beggining people have been complaining about that, remember? That's why every time a console more powerful comes along and some people screams how "Nintendo bad" and how console X will "destroy the Switch" I have the same reaction. Because that won't be the case. A more powerful console doesn't mean a more successful one. It never has.
And here we have that stupid buzzword of "triggered". If "triggered" means comfortably sitting in my bed while listening to music and writing my hot takes of nintendolife.com then I guess I'm really triggered right about now.
@russell-marlow So your problems with Nintendo GAMES are the plot... OK then. Like, I get Nintendo stories were never plot driven and they keep that tradition to this day but I'm not going to say the games are bad because of it.
@KirbysAdventure I'm sure Nintendo feels EMBARRASSED with their 80+ million unit sold Switch. The last time I'll say this hear, this will be a niche product at best. Also, Linux has viruses and hacks. They just don't get the same ones Windows has. And if you want to make this console good you'll probably need to install Windows anyways.
@russell-marlow Wow... Do you honestly think this will outsell the Switch? Amazing. Like, it looks like a neat piece of software but by it's very nature (and how Valve is selling it) it has almost no chance of getting Switch numbers.
@russell-marlow No he doesn't. And nowadays that point makes even LESS sense.
Zelda BoTW literally changed the formula of Zelda and that is the last new Zelda game released.
The last New Super Mario Bros game made was in 2012. It was ported in 2019. Also... 2.5D Mario games? The only ones like that I can think of is 3D Land and 3D World and those games are also quite old and they are the only ones in that style. I guess this comes up beause they ported 3D World? That doesn't mean all 3D Marios are the same.
With Metroid, the last 2D Metroid game was Fusion that is more than 10 years old. So at the very least they are not doing "constant rehashes". The next 2D Metroid game after that was a remake of Metroid 2 (Samus Returns) and now Metroid Dread. I don't get that complaint either. Because they bring back Ridley? because Metroid is a metroidvania game? All that makes the games all the same now?
This stupid point is always done and (again) it's not true nowadays. Maybe you could make a point with the New Super Mario Bros series or when the Zelda games were using OoT as a baseline (even tho is overexaggerating saying that Wind Waker is the same as OoT) but nowadays I don't think that's the case. Nowadays they prefer filling the void between main releases with spinoffs and ports (in the case of Mario and Zelda) and Metroid didn't get consistent releases since the 2000s.
It looks good but... I don't really trust Valve with hardware so I'll wait until it comes out before making a full opinion. Specially because it looks like it's too good to be true in some places specially about stuff like battery and heating (how will run really demanding games and stuff).
Although one problem I have already. I don't like the design at all, too crowded. Interesting still tho. And focusing on the personalization of the console is quite interesting since all three big consoles don't allow stuff like installing a custom OS.
It's funny to see all the people here doing the "Nintendoommed" talk because of specs. Nintendo didn't drop the Switch price because it keeps selling. Besides, the Switch never had huge specs and it worked just fine.
There are plenty of these portable PCs on the market already and none of them made much of a splash. I can see this getting a bigger market than the Steam Box (yes random user, Valve did made some mistakes too) and probably getting it's small niche audience that love this kind of more "complicated" products but the Switch will be just fine.
Although at the very least this is a good window into the specs of a "Switch 2".
@BloodNinja Just a question after reading your comments in multiple articles at this point. Do you even like Nintendo at all or you are here just trolling? Just a thought. Also I hate the whole "Nintendo only do Mario and Zelda rehashes!". Yeah, totally true... If you ignore every non Mario and Zelda games Nintendo makes. Also, now they apperantly do a lot of "Metroid rehashes"? In which timeline you are right now?
@dani3po Yeah. Emulation itself is legal and you can make your own roms from the games you bought and playing them through an emulator. Although the majority of people don't do that.
Ugh.. Arround here I see some people justifying piracy ("haha this console will play all Nintendo games that I will totally buy and not download online for free"). Hating Nintendo but not being able to stop playing their current games for free is more common than it should. And those same people then scream about how very "ethical" emulation is and hide behind "but preservation!" excuse. At the very least people should actually buy the games, you know? Nintendo stills sells Switch games.
I tried every trick possible to fix this issue. Cleaning the cache, format the microSD card, using a different DNS server, using a different WiFi access point. Still the same issue. I've not been able to dowload anything since I installed that system update.
I don't know why it happened or why is it taking so long to fix it but... Please Nintendo fix this already.
Edit: Also I don't get why these hot fixes do not work with my console. Quite frustating.
I don't know if they are deliveratly trying to put people off with the Diamond and Pearl remake style but they are doing just that. Both with the game and the boxart.
I get why they went for that style in the game (faithful remake and all that) and I get why they made that box art (symilar renders than the original. It actually reminds me of Battle Revolution) but it still looks... off.
Although the Legends Arceus box art actually looks quite well. Even if it seems like they copied BoTW homework and changed it a little.
Man... This is sad. It was quite expensive (probably more than it should) but I love weird Nintendo products. I bought the VR one (the one that had more fair price of them all) and I really loved stuff like the whole programming program they included.
I have a question. What was he doing during all of this time between Devil's Third release and now? What was his work? I'm just curious because it seems he wasn't making a game before now.
Have to admit, VERY surprised with Pikmin 3 in Japan. It's still on the charts. That alone is remarkable. I don't know if Nintendo marketed it 10x more there than Europe or the US or something (althought I doubt it)... But it kinda feels like it. I guess that puts Pikmin 4 being done this decade more likely.
@JHDK Looking back the change of developer seems obvious. Just look at how Harverst Moon 3D looked.
The fact that we have multiple series of games being farming sims competing is a good thing and the latest Harvest Moon game looks like it improved from that "mobile phone look" too. But seeing Natsume taking advantage of the Harvest Moon name and people thinking that it is the same series when in reality it's a different one seems quite scummy to me.
@Salvince Dude... What are you about? I mentioned Monolith Soft being able to do better due to that very team having more experience with big 3D worlds while also being a support group for a lot of other Nintendo modern games (they participated in the development of games like BoTW and even Animal Crossing New Horizons in in some way). You can say a lot about GameFreak but they are not experienced in console development. It's not really all that hard to see. Funny you say that giving Pokemon to Monolith Soft or they helping in the next Pokemon game would "bankrupt a company" considering Nintendo has been using that studio as codeveloper for multiple games at this point. I guess that means Nintendo is doomed once again.
And your point about my opinion being "invalid" because the game sells a lot is stupid. There is no other way arround it. Sells does not equal that the product is better than the ones selling less than it. Sure, in a perfect world it would, but we are not in it. With that logic I could say that games like Fifa or CoD are the pinnacle of game design quality, for example. Or that Skylanders is better than the Zelda series. And I could go on.
Also,I'm sorry, but the graphics and specially animations on SWSH are not great. Not by a long shot. Sure, they are TECHNICALLY the best a Pokemon game ever looked... But Pokemon games were on a 3DS before (and LGPE were just as meh looking btw since they reused engine and a bunch of animations between the two). Nintendo themselves made better looking games on the Switch earlier in it's live cycle (some even codeveloped by that studio that you say would make Nintendo backrupt if they ever touched a Pokemon game).
And amazing how are you painting critism as "entitlement". If me looking at other Nintendo games that cost the same, were released on the same console and earlier than SWSH and say "huh, those games look way better than SWSH" makes me entitled then fine. But I just don't like how this series does the bare minimum and apperantly I should be applauding them and I should avoid all critism towards it. No, I don't. This series has been stale for a a while, it's developer has been crunched to put out games in an unhealthy rate while also not being able to make a game of the same visual quality like the main studios at Nintendo can.
@johnvboy Remember the whole "LGPE was a game for casuals and SWSH will be a game for core Pokemon fans" that GameFreak said?
Just putting it out there...
Also, I can't believe it... Are you still going arround in comment sections with those stupid comments saying that GameFreak ignoring fan feedback and actual issues the game have is ok? Like, I'm sure all the people that bought the game are deligted by issues like not being able to play with random people online due to the awful matchmaking. I mean, since a lot of people bought the game and the opinion of people on videogame focused sites and such is not valid, that must be true, right?
And you are doing this a year later too. Like, you are even using the same format of comment you used a year ago with the " " at the end. But I guess the "haters" are the only ones who can't let it go, right?
@roboshort The main issue with mainland China is that it is harder to release media there in general due to goverment intervention and such. To be honest, it's something they should consider improving in my opinion. China is a huge market and they could grow even more if releasing products there wasn't so... complicated.
Somthing positive out of this at least, is that Nintendo localizing games in more languages is always a plus.
He's back. Oh man. I kinda miss his stupid predictions.
This one is a bad one too. Like, even going with his point, he says Nintendo should get rid of the hybrid concept by discontinuing the base model and then afterwards sell an accessory to make the Switch lite a hybrid again. Why?
I actually didn't know they were a third party company since they only did Nintendo games. The game looks good tho. Hoping the gameplay is also interesting since I wasn't much of a fan of Crafted World's gameplay.
@Maxz Something that annoyes me a lot (that even some editors in this website did) is picking one tweet that maybe got like 10 likes in total and using that as an example to prove a point.
Like, this is an extreme example but remember when there was one account that made false sexual abuse allegations against Masuda for the SWSH prerelease fiaso? That was one twitter account that was quickly deleted. I say this because instead of treating it like it was (one idiot doing an obvious false claim online) some people stated that what happened was that "people complaining about SWSH" made up sexual abuse allegations. Basically, they generalize something to make their point look valid without having to justify their points.
I used an extreme example but this happens multiple times online. For small and big topics alike. And I'm surprised people still fall for it. Specially in the most obvious cases.

@Crono1973 Here we go again folks. Appeantly wanting games (or media in general) to have more representation is bad because... it's "PoLiTiCaL". Ugh.
Also, with your logic that "identity politics are political". Isn't commenting against representation also "pOlItICaL" therefore bad?

I tried every trick possible to fix this issue. Cleaning the cache, format the microSD card, using a different DNS server, using a different WiFi access point. Still the same issue. I've not been able to dowload anything since I installed that system update.
I don't know why it happened or why is it taking so long to fix it but... Please Nintendo fix this already.
Edit: Also I don't get why these hot fixes do not work with my console. Quite frustating.
Re: Yes, The Samus Returns Team Helped Nintendo Develop Metroid Dread
@IpwnedU123 Amazing way to support the devs right here... /s
Re: Review: Winds of Change - A Polished, Absorbing, Animal-Filled Visual Novel
@Flashlink99 Do people know the meaning of something being "shoved in my face" anymore?
Re: Here's Your First Look At Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl And Legends: Arceus' Boxarts
Re: It Looks Like Labo Is Being Put To Rest As Nintendo Takes Down The Website
Man... This is sad. It was quite expensive (probably more than it should) but I love weird Nintendo products. I bought the VR one (the one that had more fair price of them all) and I really loved stuff like the whole programming program they included.
Re: After Four Years Away, The Man Behind Devil's Third Is Ready To Make Another Video Game
I have a question. What was he doing during all of this time between Devil's Third release and now? What was his work? I'm just curious because it seems he wasn't making a game before now.
Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch Ends 2020 In Spectacular Fashion
Have to admit, VERY surprised with Pikmin 3 in Japan. It's still on the charts. That alone is remarkable. I don't know if Nintendo marketed it 10x more there than Europe or the US or something (althought I doubt it)... But it kinda feels like it.
I guess that puts Pikmin 4 being done this decade more likely.
Re: Story Of Seasons And Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin Helped XSEED Games To A Record-Breaking Year
@JHDK Looking back the change of developer seems obvious.
Re: Soapbox: Here's How I'd Fix The Pokémon Series
Re: Soapbox: Here's How I'd Fix The Pokémon Series
@MajinSoul Because Monolith always put gatcha mechanics in there games. As we all know...
Also, I would love Monolith to pick up Pokemon mainly because they know how to make 3D worlds MUCH better designed and fleshed out than GameFreak.
Re: Soapbox: Here's How I'd Fix The Pokémon Series
@Salvince As we all know, sales= quality. Always.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Korok Locations
Yahaha! You found me!
Re: Poll: Pokémon Sword And Shield Launched A Year Ago, Has Your Opinion On Them Changed?
Re: Asia Is Now Nintendo's Fastest-Growing Market
@roboshort The main issue with mainland China is that it is harder to release media there in general due to goverment intervention and such. To be honest, it's something they should consider improving in my opinion. China is a huge market and they could grow even more if releasing products there wasn't so... complicated.
Somthing positive out of this at least, is that Nintendo localizing games in more languages is always a plus.
Re: Here Are The Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo Switch Games As Of September 2020
@Tulio517 As we all know. Sales = quality. And therfore SWSH selling means that the game is amazing /s
Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap Switch And 'Only Have Switch Lite'
He's back. Oh man. I kinda miss his stupid predictions.
This one is a bad one too. Like, even going with his point, he says Nintendo should get rid of the hybrid concept by discontinuing the base model and then afterwards sell an accessory to make the Switch lite a hybrid again. Why?
Re: Early Build Of Pokémon Sword Allegedly Leaked Online
@Heavyarms55 As we all know, critising a game is bad and if you do it automatically lose your title of "fan" of a franchise.
Re: Random: Sakurai Didn't Appreciate The "Rough" Comments During TGS, So He Decided To Turn Them Off
@Darkyoshi98 Why do you insist so much with that lie?
Re: Yoshi's Crafted World Studio Good-Feel's Next Game Is Giving Us Serious Goemon Vibes
I actually didn't know they were a third party company since they only did Nintendo games.
The game looks good tho. Hoping the gameplay is also interesting since I wasn't much of a fan of Crafted World's gameplay.
Re: Random: Sakurai Didn't Appreciate The "Rough" Comments During TGS, So He Decided To Turn Them Off
@Maxz Something that annoyes me a lot (that even some editors in this website did) is picking one tweet that maybe got like 10 likes in total and using that as an example to prove a point.
