@NotSoCryptic I always thought Ubisoft games nowadays never did much critically but sold quite well and were really impresive on a technical level. I stopped caring about them when they decided to do just F2P and/or FarCry 3+ forever so I just didn't know about their current state.
It seems it is not a good one. I guess it is as you said, it seems the strategy of having a Ubisoft formula common in all their games that is so strict wasn't the best. And their strategy with F2P games is probably the most questionable thing they did recently. I can't think any recent Ubisoft F2P that has been succesful.
Ubisoft is doing quite badly recently. They admitted to investors that a bunch of their games got cancelled and their more recent F2P game is going to last like 3 months.
Like... I get some people react with anger when a news article about a game being cEnSoReD appears but... Maybe in this case it's for the best? I'm usually a very "let people buy what they want" kind of person but there are some limits and I think this game got there. I don't think the game shouldn't come out, don't get me wrong. It doesn't have illegal content or anything like that. But putting those names in the game was in poor taste and with awful timing. Stopping the release, waiting a bit and releasing the game afterwards with the names changed is definetly for the best.
Also, by the way, the fact that you weren't the target demographic for the game doesn't mean you suddently lose your free speach rights and you are forbidden to talk about it. I just don't get it... people against game censhorship LOVE to talk about "free speach" while forgetting everyone that thinks differently than them. Proven by the fact that the first argument they ALWAYS use is how the people critising the game don't even deserve to be heard instead of actually discussing their points. The people complaining about the game had all the right to do so. Besides, probably the majority of critism was from people of Japan itself (since the incident in particular happened there) so this isn't even a "western localizers being evil trying to remove the original intent" situation.
@prismt why are people so against a subcription plan for older games? I don't think it's a bad way to rerelease older games. An option to also buy them would be nice but thanks to NSO I played a bunch of NES and SNES games that I'd never bought.
@IronMan30 To be fair. Nintendo does preserve games... They just don't rerelease them XD.
And it's compleatly true that the mentality against preserving (and allowing users to access) games is not only coming from Nintendo (unfortunately). Hoping that changes someday, being because of the companies themselves or regulation.
Honestly? After what happened with the writers since Colors, maybe is for the best. The dialogue for Sonic Colors was a nice change of pace but every game it felt more souless. Specially in Forces.
Having a story that at least tries to do something (like Unleashed, for example) would be nice.
Edit: Also, even with the Chao Garden video being probably edited, is still weird how they admit Chao Garden is a popular request and they refused to do it nowadays for some reason.
@BlubberWhale Yep. Bunch of good games from Nintendo (published) this year. LiveALive, Xenoblade 3, Splatoon 3, Bayo 3, Mario+Rabbits, Pokemon (hopefully is good), Advance Wars?. That alongside me collecting old games means I don't have a bunch of money for niche experimental games.
I've heard Kao is a good reboot of a niche platformer. I'd described it as a PS2 style 3D platformer with HD graphics.
@Dezzy70 This last message is 100% right. Seeing your comments makes me thing that sometimes people living in countries where all of this is normal forget how new this actually is. The fact that you normalize it is nice but there are many other places in the world.
@Dezzy70 I mean... I guess you have the privilege of not having to be "political". Many people have to risk being "political" because they see their rights being rejected. Asking for gay marrige in Japan is "political" therefore "bad" because "Japan has it's traditions".
And again, the whole reason why people hate the "I see no skin color" argument is because it ignores problems for specific groups of people assuming that everyone has equal footing. I get what are you trying to say and I don't think you are a homophobe or anything or the sort. I'm just explaining why some people will react badly to the point you used, even if it doesn't come from a bad place.
@Dezzy70 You don't seem to hate LGBT+ people at all seeing your comments but you also seem to go for the "everyone is equal" approach. Like, I get it, but some people will react badly to that argument because... well... not everyone is equal. And that mentality is often used to silence complains from certain groups. Gay people only got that right because they made themselves known as a separate group with separate issues than hetero couples.
Basically, that mentality of "I see everyone equal" is only valid if everyone has an equal playing field. Which is not the case.
@BlubberWhale Both look cool in my opinion. And both are niche IPs that have been dormant for years. I'll probably pick Klonoa first but I'm going to get both for sure.
@BlubberWhale I totally understand but Kao the Kagaroo is also a small niche platformer that recently got another shot. Hm... I'll try picking both when I can.
I'm still considering between buying Klonoa or Kao the Kangaroo. This month I already planned buying LiveALive and Xenoblade 3 so 2 more other new games are probably too many. I'll buy Klonoa either way some day tho. I always wanted this little guy to return.
@Anti-Matter OH, ok. Sorry about that. It's just that comment felt a bit... like THOSE types of comments you know?
But hey, you manage to get a PS5 (which shouldn't be that hard at this point but whatever...) and you want to build a library of physical games. Specially since the first party library is still quite small. Makes sense. Good luck with that then!
This month I honestly expect to buy too many games. Since the beggining of this year the majority of money for games each month goes to second hand games (for 3DS, Wii and DS specially) with one Switch game sometimes in the middle. But this month I have to make an exception.
I have already preordered LiveALive and Xenoblade 3 (I've given up on the collectors edition XD). And I also want to buy Klonoa (although maybe I buy Kao the Kangaroo instead).
@Anti-Matter why do you feel the need to say that you won't play the game on Switch? I usually don't react to comments like this but It's not the first time you say this either.
Like... do you expect people to be angry about that or something?
I wasn't really interested in Monkey Island before. I didn't grew up with it and and I've never been interested in point and clicks (outside of some licenced pc point and clicks that I never finished when I was little). So probably my opinion isn't really informed.
But... what's wrong with the artstyle? Genuenlly, I just can't see the issue. That is "too simple" I guess? Like, is it that bad to make as big of a fuss? I just don't get it.
I guess we won't get a general Direct this week... But hey, the rumour was technically true, we did get A Direct this month. Luckily I'm a fan of Xenoblade so I'm genuenly interested.
@MysticX Oh, yeah, sure. Prison is a bit harsh. At most I'd do fines that make them pay for the money they made with piracy with punitive damages or something. Like, the one on this article blatantly said he went in for the money and made money out of it.
@mikegamer Apperantly people should defend a guy that is blatantly profiting of other people work and framing it as fighting for "freedom" because corporations bad.
@Yorumi Blowing the effects of piracy out of proportion doesn't make it a good thing tho. And it doesn't change anything I said earlier.
I said it earlier and I'll say it again, the only place where I can justify piracy is for game preservation and maybe if the game is exorbitably expensive (like living in a place like Brazil where imports from videogames can be... difficult sometimes unless it improved recently). Everything else is just people being cheap.
Also, the dude from this article literally profit about other people's work. And he literally said that was the whole reason why he did it too.
I'll repeat that again. Steam has DRM. Still has it to this day. And GoG didn't changed that.
Also what are you saying about that last paragraph? I just said that streaming did harm to the general music industry and made it even harder for artists to get paid for their work (despite being easier to publish it). I didn't mention anything about the music industry's attemps to fight piracy. I mentioned that as a rebuttal about how the convinience of the current music industry was all perfect. I just don't get that when it decreased the money in the industry and made it even harder for artists to be paid for their work.
@Moistnado Then I guess I should not work anymore? If I can sell pirated software and only get a small fixed fine that does not make a dent of the money I made and it is not linked to the amount of ilegal sales I did, then what's the point?
I know Nintendo is very extreme with piracy but some people here are saying some very stupid takes.
@Yorumi Ok then... What's the reason the music industry was cut so much right arround the time music streaming services hit it big?
Also, GoG is still a small service. It's growing but it's not HUGE or anything. And Steam technically has DRM, just saying.
Simply offering better services and prices doesn't automatically reduce piracy. It helps, don't get me wrong. But to assume a company should just let pirates make profit out of things they don't own when they are selling it right now on the market seems... off to me. Of course they'll try to combat it, specially if they make money out of it.
A reminder that Bowser in particular was accused on piracy on current gen Nintendo systems so I don't think the reasoning of "Nintendo didn't offer any other option" works here.
@kobashi100 Saying that "artist were screwed up before but for different reasons" doesn't change anything that I said. Streaming made it easy for more people to enter the industry but it made the payment EVEN WORSE than before and reduced the money that industry moves in total. That's a fact. Again, there is a reason why every big company wants their own Spotify instead of publishing their media on a Spotify they don't own.
@DarthFoxMcCloud I mean... Let's see how the remakes does. I hope it does ok at least and they see some potential. But the fact that Advance Wars got less love doesn't mean FE is oversaturated.
@Savage_Joe Of course mega record labels keeping all the sales money was bad. But now we get big music streaming companies doing the same while paying the artists less. I don't know if that is much better honestly. The only good thing I can see is lowering the bar to actually get music on those services while before you had to sell yourself to a record lable, everything else is a downgrade.
Right now an artist needs more merch and concert sales in order to break even... well, what about those indies? Sure, they can get their sounds out much easier but, due to the nature of the market nowadays, actually getting money for it isn't easy. Big artists can do merch and concerts much easier than indies after all.
@ThomastheTankEngine You know what? That's actually cool if true that you can buy the PS1 and PS2 classics without needed a subscription.
So, you don't condone current gen piracy then? The very think Bowser made a profit of? What about people making money in general from the piracy scene?
@Yorumi I mean... Look at the money the music industry had at the early 2000s and compare it to the late 2010s or this decade. I don't think I'm fabricating that fact. So, why could that be if you think my theory is really that wrong?
@ThomastheTankEngine Also, I personally said that for older games I totally get emulating them and ilegally downloading them since there is no other choice in a lot of cases.
Now, piracy on the Switch exists and it's the reason why Bowser was prosecuted in the first place, because he was profiting on pirating on current gen Switch consoles. What about that then?
@Yorumi I don't think it's always that easy as "it's just a way to control prices". Like, the ideal price of those games for a lot of people is 0 dollars. If it wasn't, people would wait for a sale rather than pirate it. And if a game never goes at a sale that means that a lot of people are buying for the price that it currently is, meaning that people do actually want it at that price. Specially if the game is avaliable physicaly, when that demand can be much more potent (specially on the 2nd hand market).
Also, the music industry was basically destroyed by streaming. I already made another comment about this but basically, the prices became so low that artist actually suffer a lot more to make a profit and the big winners are the companies that host those streaming services. That's why we see a lot of big videogame companies creating their own streaming services, to get on the streaming push but without losing control and profits.
@Yorumi I mean... I'm usually fine with piracy with outdated platforms (1 or 2 generations back). But pirating current gen hardware is a bit more... nuanced.
@Savage_Joe Spottify and other services like it also made incalculable damage to the music industry. Basically cutting their profits in half while the companies of those services are basically the ones making any money and putting artists in an even worse place than before.
I don't know if that example is the best one... It literally says to companies that if they make everything avaliable in a cheap service that englobes the majority of the market, they'd make less money.
@mr_somewhere Yeah... I remember Fates (and specially it's story and some... exaggerated character designs) made it feel like they went too far. People were at least justified for being a bit worried. There was a lot of cautious feeling before Three Houses released. Even tho it's hard to remember do to it's critical reception being much better than Fates.
Shadows of Valentia suffered from being a 2017 3DS game mainly.
I'm not exacly in support of Nintendo stance on piracy and I think they should make older titles easily avaliable to combat it. I would support this man more... if he didn't enrich himself with piracy. He himself said that is the case and that he did it for that purpose.
The fact that he labled himself as a "freedom fighter" makes me laugh. Were did all the money he gain for piracy went to?
@mr_somewhere Isn't a bit early to just dismiss the game outright and say that we should look forward to a remake of a game that it's not even sure would ever exist?
Like, I know that if the details of Three Houses were leaked beforehand everyone would have hated it. "A school setting!1! In my Fire Emblem?!?!".
@DarthFoxMcCloud Oversaturated? I know pandemic time seems like a blur now but the last mainline FE game was in summer 2019, 3 years ago. Since then we had a DLC and now a Warriors game this year (oh and a limited localized rerelease of an old NES game). Like, is that oversaturated? Did I forget something?
Also, Nintendo's buisness is paused in Russia last time I checked. Probably don't technically leave because Russia would nationalize their assets if they do. Although I guess people in Russia can probably still find phisical games imported from other countries but Nintendo can do little to prevent that.
About the rest, yeah, Advance Wars should have a release day by now. And Ukraine needs support.
@rjejr Hm... There is a chance Nintendo just lets june pass by without any Direct. It would be kinda unprecedented but without E3 they didn't really have to do one and they already announce stuff for this year earlier.
I mean, for all that we know, Nintendo could just send a tweet tomorrow and announce a Direct for the 16th.
I mean... They are working on a new Fire Emblem, that's a given. It probably is even quite far in development too, Three Houses was released almost 3 years ago. The question is when will they announce it and how it is going to be.
Of all of the games I have I'm actually playing Pokemon Yellow on 3DS. I think I'll do a gym a day until I finish it.
I've been in a 3DS binge lately since I'm picking up some old games I wanted before they go up in price. I just finished Poochy and Yoshy's Wooly World and StarFox 64 3D. Next will be the demake of Luigi's Mansion on 3DS (that I got for quite a low price surprisignly) and Zelda Skyward Sword on Switch.
@N64-ROX You can choose multiple times the same characters without any limits. Like, you can have an entire team made of Yoshi's or Waluigis if you want.

That's why we see a lot of big videogame companies creating their own streaming services, to get on the streaming push but without losing control and profits.
Re: "What Do I Care?" - Nintendo Hacking Mastermind Defiant As Colleague Bowser Is Jailed
@Yorumi I mean... I'm usually fine with piracy with outdated platforms (1 or 2 generations back). But pirating current gen hardware is a bit more... nuanced.
Re: "What Do I Care?" - Nintendo Hacking Mastermind Defiant As Colleague Bowser Is Jailed
Re: Rumour: Potential Screenshots From A New "Finished" Fire Emblem Surface Online
Re: "What Do I Care?" - Nintendo Hacking Mastermind Defiant As Colleague Bowser Is Jailed
Re: Rumour: Potential Screenshots From A New "Finished" Fire Emblem Surface Online
@mr_somewhere Post Fates I remember people being constantly angry about Fire Emblem. People took a while to warm up to Three Houses.
If there was a leak earlier that only explained the school setting and nothing else, people would have been furious.
Re: Rumour: Potential Screenshots From A New "Finished" Fire Emblem Surface Online
Re: Rumour: Potential Screenshots From A New "Finished" Fire Emblem Surface Online
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Leaker Shares Details Of A New "Finished" Fire Emblem On Switch
@Markiemania95 Oh. Ok. I think when I read the article it was corrected. Whops...
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Leaker Shares Details Of A New "Finished" Fire Emblem On Switch
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Leaker Shares Details Of A New "Finished" Fire Emblem On Switch
@Markiemania95 When Nintendo decides. Just like how Advance Wars has been ready for months. And that is actually proven.
Re: Multiplayer Battles Were Included Pokémon Red & Blue At The Last Minute
@ModdedInkling Nintendo is a third of TPCi. Why do people think Pokemon is only on Nintendo consoles?
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Leaker Shares Details Of A New "Finished" Fire Emblem On Switch
I mean... They are working on a new Fire Emblem, that's a given. It probably is even quite far in development too, Three Houses was released almost 3 years ago. The question is when will they announce it and how it is going to be.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 11th)
Re: Review: Mario Strikers: Battle League - Simply The Best Sports Game On Switch
@N64-ROX You can choose multiple times the same characters without any limits. Like, you can have an entire team made of Yoshi's or Waluigis if you want.
