Re: Super Mario Lego Is A Thing That Is Happening

joedick

@boneyard I suppose it's possible that Lego might be joining up with Nintendo to make something other than toys, but it's pretty unlikely. I get that it might've been better for them to add 'likely' or something like that to the sentence, but this doesn't strike me as a 'games journalist not doing their work' scenario.

Re: Best Of 2019: Why You'll Never Get To Play Your Favourite Retro Game On Switch

joedick

@sixrings Alien, Predator & TMNT are big, still relevant franchises, and those retro games were tied to big releases (Capcom's arcade stick plug n play for AvP, TMNT rerelease was actually published by Ubisoft who already had the TMNT licence). Those are pretty low-risk compared to putting out say, a Goonies collection.

Anyways, this is a great article! Far too many people think putting out old games is free money which is obviously not the case. Still, we've been getting a lot lately between the 'mini' consoles, Arcade Archives, and various other one-off digital releases & collections.

It's a bit unfair to call out Sega for giving us Sonic over and over - they've reissued a lot of gems through Sega Ages and the Genesis mini. If Sonic helps sell these projects, so be it.

Re: Soapbox: With Microsoft Playing Ball, It’s Finally Time For Banjo-Kazooie To Return To Nintendo

joedick

A good read, but I don't see this happening, at least not as presented in this article. It's mentioned that MS is willing to let third parties tackle their IP and the article suggests Nintendo can help oversee the project. But I don't think Nintendo would help unless it's a Switch exclusive, and MS won't farm their IP unless it's for an Xbox exclusive.

I think having Nintendo on board would be an important part of this project, as they are sometimes able to get the best out of developers working for them - think Silicon Knights, Left Field, Monster Games, etc.

Re: Gaming Addiction Is Officially A Disorder, According To The World Health Organisation

joedick

Way too many people in this thread seem to be taking this personally, as though it's an affront to videogames. Nobody is going to take your games away, let's make sure we help those who need & want it!

@YummyHappyPills I respectfully disagree. QA testers are not addicts under the guidelines. The article states one of the symptoms being "impaired control over gaming", so if the QA tester can control their gaming urges after work, they aren't considered addicts. Similarly, if they are playing something other than what they are testing while at work, they may have a problem.

Re: Rumour: The Skylanders Franchise Might Be Facing Cancellation

People say the death of this (and the music games) was due to the games being 'milked' with too many released in a short time frame.

I disagree. These things always seemed like fads right from the start, pumping out as many as you can before people move on was the right strategy (from a business perspective).

Re: Retro-Bit Generations Game List Contains Capcom, Irem And Data East Classics

More obscure games are being released that haven't officially been available in decades!

And everybody's complaining that that the games they can get everywhere else aren't included. * sigh * Almost 100 games for $60, when most clones don't come with anything and people are still complaining.

Anyways, do we know if any of these are arcade versions?

Re: E3 2016: Ubisoft is Confident That Nintendo NX Can Recapture 'Lapsed Wii Players'

joedick

@Yorumi Great, the PS4 is doing well! It can be the best selling console of all time and the console market can still shrink. You are looking at one console, I am talking about the entire industry.

You say it's because the 'casuals have moved on'. Yes! The casuals left and as result the industry is smaller than it was. Just because you don't like that grannies played games or whatever doesn't change the fact that there are less people buying systems than there were before.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Shakes Up E3 With No NX and a Focus on Legend of Zelda

joedick

@B238ben They'll still be at E3 with, I think, the same floor space so they won't be saving money. The last two years people cited cost cutting as the reason behind the Direct-style video, but they still rented out the theatre for different reasons.

They're trying new things, which I think is good. If it doesn't work, swing and a miss. I'm not an investor so I don't really care either way.

Games will probably still be playable behind closed doors for select press members. They just won't be available to every Xbox blog writer, Gamestop manager, etc.

Re: Bravely Second "Tomahawk" Costume Change Confirmed For The West

@CosmoXY Totally agree. I was expecting some, but I'm a bit surprised there's so much of it in the comments here. Even seeing lines in the actual article like "it's not entirely clear why it would have caused upset in the first place."

I've never understood how you can tell somebody to 'get over it' when you haven't been through what they have. Or seeing lines here like 'Well, I'm an unbiased European, and I think it's fine'.
