Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 18th)

@Mince
I always enjoyed mages so started with Cyrus
Then of course his health and defense sucked so needed a healer (she is conveniently geographically close to him)
They are both squishy so needed strong defense and physicals to save MP (he was also nearby)
After that is up to you, I grabbed Tessa since she was close by and enjoyed her more than I thought I would.
Thief is a bit inconvenient to get to if you start out like this though
I guess I played it pretty safe/generic
Went for Black Mage, then White, then Warrior

As I stated, videogames are not essential.
Gamers are not asking for a discount due to the circumstances.
Developers are providing discounts because naturally, with less disposable income, the demand for their product has lessened.
Nintendo, due to pride/arrogance/ dumb greed refused to lowered their game prices to maximize profits when others have.
In a simple example you can move 10 units at $60, you only made $600 in sales, but if you had lower it to $40 you can move 20 units which means you made $800 in sales. It's simple business, specially when digital supply caps only at amount of consoles.
Coronavirus has taken many lives, yet there are many other things that go on around the world that you simply do not care about because the media has not focused on. Maybe not caring about those equally important things is crass and inappropriate too.

That's a mighty high horse
@electrolite77
They are betting that people will be willing to spend more for the same product due to arrogance. They are plain wrong because people are out of jobs, have less disposable income and they provide a product that is not essential. I'm not saying do it out of the goodness of your heart. Like you and me, they have their own Bill's and employees, but from a business perspective what they are doing makes no sense.
1. If they would have offered a real discount people would have remember their goodwill, not their greed and come back for more during good times
2. They are shooting themselves in the foot because of the shortages they are not making money on console sales and physical retailers are limited.
So now they'll move a few more units than what they were, but not as much profit will be generated if they would have brought it down a bit more.
They seriously need to take notes from the indie developers

I'm aware it is stored in their servers
However, it is stored in transactions history and not in your individual account.
Hackers can steal all account information and not have access to those transactions so it does make a difference.
As you stated though, more security is always welcome
I rather sacrifice some convenience for that tiny little bit of added protection

@KitsuneNight
I agree
I'm aware they do not follow "rules"
I've had decades of experience with them
But these Corona times called for these measures
They are leaving money on the table
Think about it, who doesn't have Zelda, Kart, Odyssey, DKC by now?
The people not willing to pay full price for them
Those "evergreen" titles have been selling because consoles keep selling, "new" people were buying them.
But with a decrease in console sales due to shortages, who is going to buy them?

In this time with people stuck home and no jobs, they could really capitalize on some massive earnings if they are smart enough to drop 1st party games to 50%. I'm not asking for 60, 70, 80 or 90 like the indies are doing. 50% for 3 yr old games is a realistic expectation. They are loosing out on so many sales right now because their console production has been severely impacted. Animal Crossing could have led to so many more Switch units sold if it wasn't for the virus messing up their production. This is specially bad because this was their last year to significantly grow their user base before the next generation arrives.

Re: UK Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sales Fall By 81% In Disappointing Week For Nintendo

jamesthemagi

My 1st thought was that the pandemic has slowed down Sony and MS's launch into the next generation. Even if they still release this year, many things they had planned will be behind schedule. This would effectively prolong the Switch's life, pushing back a Pro or 2 version for a while.
However, the situation is actually hurting Nintendo the most. These shortages are a huge issue for the company. This was the year for them to push out games and expand the user base as much as possible prior to the new generation to stay relevant. Animal crossing 's bs of 1 file/console was designed to move units and it is now unable to do so. Even though scalpers are obviously not part of the company, they do reflect bad on them because they leave a nasty taste on families.
Now is the time for the company to push out as much software as possible. However, in arrogance I have yet to see a 1st party sale (obviously not referring to ACNH). Square capitalized on this moment with the sale they just had and multiple other developers did as well, yet Nintendo refuses to budge because they believe people will continue to buy them at their regular price. When the economic situation at home worsens from this crisis they will see their numbers completely tank.

@Investor9872
That would be an extremely obtuse move
If they are struggling with main console shortages, they will drown trying to put out a new one at this moment.
Unfortunately, things will be quiet until summer, when Corona virus is expected to recede and it will take them a little while to get back to "normal" in regards of manufacturing.
This is a blessing in disguise, as they are able to get rid of the overstock of Lites

I also think is ridiculous how they list used games more expensive than new games. That makes no sense. They need to work on their pricing. Look at eBay and see how much they are trending for.
They could introduce a 2% rewards program.
If they are going to do card game tournament, let's say they do 8 people $10 each entry fee and give out a $50 price.
A retro gaming section where they charge/hour
There is a lot of potential not only to excite gamer, but also to make the stores very profitable.
