Ohhh lordy lord, I'm coming down with the vapours again.
Can't wait for the Spring sale, can't wait to see what Nintendo game in gonna get next.
And of those 300, how many will actually be quality titles and not $5 indies on sale for $2.
Oooh just been paid aswell. I keep a eye out to see if any games take my fancy.
@NotoriousWhiz Which will be fine, majority buy the quality day one. Hard to wait when something is so epic.
What's the betting most of the big games don't go on offer like BOTW or Smash, the ones what do barely get much of an discount, all the multiplat games still being too expensive despite being far cheaper on the PS4 and X1, a few decent offers and the rest just being on Indies and those 89p games what give you an hour of fun and not much else.
Be nice if Donkey Kong TF is in there.
EDIT: Now it is!
Guess I'm glad I skipped buying FFIX yesterday. It comes on sale regularly.
Thing is I predict a lot of the games on sale will be shovelware or small / modest discounts of like 10-30% for anything truly meaty.
Hopefully it happens in NA too. The store sales have been flooded with $1-5 titles for way too long, so here's hoping some decent games get a good discount!
@Richnj Well, yeah, the sale hasn't started yet...
@Richnj It doesn't start til Thursday this week.
@Richnj Doesn't start till Thursday
@Richnj doesn't start until Thursday.
Looks like I'm the slowest one.
@aetios I just spotted that. My bad.
No 3DS sales? Was hoping to pickup some Virtual Console titles!
I bet they are ready to make their move to Switch 2 soon. Not this year but a year or 2.. which will be very close
@Alucard83 Can't wait for Switch 2, gonna be best console ever made. Hope can play on TV, without dock or cord.
I'm hoping for Alien Isolation to be on sale.
@jump Yes! That would be amazing.
I haven’t got Touryst yet so hopefully that’s on sale.
I know what I'm spending my student loan on now. :L
Got a few quality indie titles building up on my wish list so hopefully they'll be a few that haven't been on sale before.
I wonder what game will be 80% off?
GRID on sale would push me to buy!
Bought a game from £35 yesterday..... Dang might have pulled the trigger too early !
There are games at "up to 80% off" literally every day.
Only in eShop? Nah, not interested in digital versions.
Must be nice for some, tons of time off paid and games on sale lol.
Deadly Premonition for under £20, Sniper Elite 3 for £15 or less and Armello half price will be the ones in hoping for.
What with coronavirus being... well, coronavirus, I can hardly think of a better timing than this. Woo boy, here we go!
I'm hoping for final fantasy sale returns, so what games are being discontinued then? honestly guys if Motorsport manager gets a discount I recommend it, it's so good. Also is monopoly for Switch any good? it made it into the top 5 the other week...
I hate searching through the eShop. No way will I be scrolling through 300+ games on current offers.
There's really no choice but the eshop for many people now so I'm glad they're still doing sales.
@ImagineerNik Put all the ones you want on your wishlist and then you'll see if any are discounted if you check it on sales day. You should get an email notification too.
Calling it now... Nintendo direct on Thursday.
@NotoriousWhiz 47
Will come back to go over the list to see if I recognize any of the names.
Bye bye microSD card 😟
I just hope I can tackle some off my wishlist (which keeps getting bigger for some unknown reason...). xD
It's the 'up to' that makes it sound good. I wonder which title will have the 80% off.
And it would interesting to know what the average discount is.
Snooker 19 please
If for some bizarre reason AC is on sale (shouldn't be, given it only launched just recently), I will flip as I literally just brought it half an hour ago digitally.
WooooW.... Nintendo promotions, we will be lucky if a €50 game will now cost €49,99...
STAHP! PLEASE, STAAAAAHP!!!
@ImagineerNik https://www.dekudeals.com/
@whizzkidd in my experience, the most common first party discount seems to be 33%. But for a generation spoiled by Steam, it's probably a ripoff.
@MS7000
Lol im waiting for AC rebel to go on sale haha.
@Dromosus I uses to be able to keep up with titles by regularly adding to my wishlist in the Switch's 1st year. Now I can barely keep up but the wishlist is still the best way to filter games you're interested in
@NotoriousWhiz
That remains to be seen, but excited nonetheless
With home isolation in force I just bought Just Dance 2020. I wonder whether it will be on sale.
Finally!
I hope is like the 800 titles sales, that more games were added as the days progressed.
Developers should capitalize on the situation going on now, lower their prices and move out software
@FX102A
Agree, though I think it will be a while before FF goes on sale again.
No E3 this year and doubt it would go on this sale since they just ended one
@JamesR Maybe, it's part of the buy2 get1 free deal, along with many others from Ubisoft currently going on this week at Target and Amazon.
@mesome713
Probably Crypt of the Necrodancer... again
@ImagineerNik
Just put what you want on your wishlist and scroll through that to see if they went on special
@johnvboy
A 3rd one? This close? I wish, but I doubt it
I’m hoping and praying for BOTW.
@johnvboy A Direct!!!??!?!?!?!? Switch Pro 2 confirmed...I need to calm my mammaries a bit. Phew. In all honesty I only popped my head in this thread to see the Glass Half Empty Crew. And they're out in full effect.
@nhSnork wrong... A ripoff is a game from 2017 sill be sold by fullprice (BotW eg.).
A ripoff is a remake/remaster of a short short short game be sold by fullprice (Link Awakening eg.)
I almost picked up Final Fantasy IX but I’m hoping for Undertale to get discounted again, or maybe something else if there is a deep discount.
Come on Nintendo 80% off Mario Odyssey
" and you're back in the room"👍🤣
@whizzkidd BotW gets the proverbial 33% off every few months (and so does its expansion pass which I bought discounted last summer). Link's Awakening, a relatively fresh release, has yet to (sorry that Nintendo isn't Bethesda or Ubisoft), but it's a full remake of a franchise classic with added features, and as an action/adventure game, its playthrough mileage is subject to a bit too much variation for "short short short" argument to hold water with anyone who doesn't consider weird sites like HLTB an authority. You want much cheaper, you can always invest in the VC original (and it goes on sales/MN coupons, too) - provided you have a 3DS.
Only digital? No thanks, not worth it.
Yeah, my guess is anything we actually want will be like 33% off, maybe a surprise at 50% off. It would be so dope if they did 80% off ONE first party Nintendo game. Like, if they did a coupon for every owner that has switch online to buy one game at 80% off.
Excellent. I'm in the market for some games. Working my way through Luigis Mansion 3 and Assassins Creed III but have my eye on a few smaller games to entertain me during this lockdown. Hopefully Obra Dinn and maybe some first party Nintendo games get reduced.
These sales are great. I recently picked up Runner 3, The Way Remastered, and Pikuniku for less than $5.00 total! I hope this sale makes it to the North America.
My favourite thing about sales threads is when someone complains about the noninclusion of a game that was on sale a week ago.
Nice!!!
I always fill my wishlist with digital games that I wait to purchase when they go on sale.
I always pick up a few on sale nearly every week, sometimes a lot more.
@Smilegang1337
If botw is 80% i will double dip. I finished it on WiiU.
Please make those ACA Neo Geo titles a part of the sale !
I just bought KOF 98 and was STUNNED by this port's quality.
Now I want' em all !!
Games on my wish list :
Samurai Shodown
Metro Redux
Saint Row 3
Assassin's Creed Rebel Collection
Call of Juarez
Sniper 3
WF Youngblood
So hard right now!
@johnvboy haha, never gonna happen.
Would he great though
@WesEds Yup, because Nintendo’s shop is digital. Physical copies are sold in other shops so you’ll have to wait for their sales. Although if you’re lucky the digital sale might cause physical retailers to lower heir prices.
I want blossom tales I think it was on sale a couple of months ago but wasn’t aware of it TIL last week, will get for less than a tenner! Otherwise I’m good x x x x
@WiltonRoots,
In fairness they never miss a chance.
@jamesthemagi,
It's happening just need to believe.
I’ll be gutted if Astral Chain and DQ go on sale, literally just bought them XD
Resident evil games will still be massively overpriced even on sale. Don't know how Capcom can keep a straight face charging the ludicrous prices they do for those old games. Just for once I'd like to see Salt and Sanctuary in a damn sale!
@Eddy9000 The Nintendo UK website sells physical copies too. Unfortunately the prices are slightly more than other retailers. However they do seem to have plenty of stock but nothing ever goes on sale there. I mean Starlink is still full release price
I'm Definitely getting Luigi's mansion 3 for £33, good price. Cheers Nintendo
Don't have much space left on the old SD card. Still eager to see what's on offer though.
@WesEds it’s actually physical that’s keeping the prices that high on digital games (To keep stores satisfied), when the physical games finally are only for the collectors prices can be more flexible for the regular game collectors
"Up to 80%" meaning most discounts will be 5-10% and you'll get like one game 80% off?
Lol that's fine. Sales are nice!
If I was still getting paid I'd be excited about this but as it stands I'm in isolation without pay and can't afford anything but the essentials 😔
@chardir
Yep, and about 80% of those 80% games on sale aren't worth it due to being bombarded with cheap shovel ware/mobile ports.
@Palico_extremeru
Reminder that you can access any eShop from any non-Chinese Switch, and "no foreign transaction fee" credit cards do exist.
@nukatha oh I'm aware.
i hopa na gets a sale like this.
@NotoriousWhiz depends on your own personal definition I suppose.
Hmm was hoping Redout would get a discount, it didn't.
Still might get some SEGA ages games.
In this kind of sale what I want is 20 euro 3 hour long indies heavily reduced, not first-party also physically available digital 60 euro games at 45 euro. So it's fine by me if indies have a big presence in a 300 title sale. Let's see what they have beyond what NL highlights.
Waiting for Astral Chain and Slay the Spire sale…
Some great games heavily reduced... Admittedly it's off full RRP and many of these games can be brought for similar prices pre-owned physically... However, Hellblade at 50% off is great, especially as you can't get it physically on the Switch. Spyro at 50% also is a great deal...
This is a serious sale with plenty to choose from...
Same old. Minus games I already own and those that are cheaper on Steam or Xbox one there's not much left and nothing that's discounted enough to get my interest. I'd say I don't get Nintendo but I guess they did the math and decided that being stingy was the way to go.
Of highlighted games i own all of them except for Just Dance 2020 and Divinity 2.
Only 2 on my watch list discounted, but not big enough for me to bite!
This'll be an easy browse. I'll just load up the wishlist and see what's on sale from there. Although good job! has been hilarious so might just skip the sale altogether.
The Touryst is finally on sale, nice. That's one I've patiently been waiting for, even though I'm sure it's worth the full price. There's a few others I might grab too, such as Cat Quest II.
Only thing that I see that might annoy some in the two Metro games reduced so soon after they first released
*mumble mumble.... backlog mumble mumble *
Was I supposed to have money for this after Animal Crossing and the Final Fantasy and Deponia sales?
@Zenszulu My first thought too: those Metro games have only been out five minutes! Very tempted to pick up the first one, and Hellblade.
Let's face it, though: once a title has been on sale, it's like the seal has been ripped off. You don't need to add it to a groaning backlog - it will come around again.
Where can i see full list?
@JokerCK The eShop.
@BenAV
Except for eshop?Smarty-Pants.
I'm surprised that Hellblade is cheaper here than on the PS4. How did it manage to avoid the Switch tax?
I’ll jump for To the Moon. May also get Fast Racing RMX. Both have been in my wish list for a while.
Nice! Have been waiting for a sale on Divinity 2 original sin. Perfect. Instant buy and downloading. Now i have something new to play on my next graveyard shift.
Thinking about buying Lego city underground, yokaa laylee and diablo 3 also.. hmm.
@anibalherrerab
Because it has no physical and probably sluggish sales
A £25 card just got me Gris, Castlevania Collection and Contra collection. Sweet deal!
HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed is 30% OFF! WHAT AN OFFER!
Very disappointing sale. Several maybes because the discounts simply aren't good enough compared to the competition.
@USWITCH64 I cannot see that price. It's still showing me 49.99
My daughter was looking to play Runner 2 on the Wii U again recently, so I put Runner 3 for Switch on my eShop Wish List and hey presto, it’s massively discounted now! Downloaded it this morning before I went to work 😊
@Anvold
In what planet do you live? All shops around the world are closed or are closing, so, you bet, these sales are only on eShop.
Damn, I was hoping DOOM 1 and 2 would be back on sale. Missed the great discount they applied ahead of the DOOM Eternal launch...
@tourjeff I was predicting the future! Maybe next week when Nintendo put their own games on sale....
Cinders and de Blob 2 in the cart.
Hopefully they'll add some more games next week. It's not really a big sale so far.
I've been waiting for a GRID price drop, too.
There is games with over 90% off too.
Some games is 100% free too.
Just bought Hellblade for myself and Just Dance 2020 for my daughter. The near future is an expensive one...
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice!
Will be getting Trine Collection and possibly Hellblade this week. Tempted by Alien Isolation but seen it much cheaper on other platform sales so I'll hold out and see if it ever drops to sub £15 on switch.
Nintendo have the worst sales. Why they never put a good sale on first party's I'll never know. How about 50%off DK or Zelda ffs? They should take a leaf out of Sony's, MS and even steam sales books.
Just the usual rubbish indies
@Swindla breath of the wild and DK tropical freeze will have discount on April 9th.its on the Nintendo twitter account.
@Smilegang1337 I have BOTW but when it's on sale in April it will probably be 49.99
Still much better to get it 2nd hand off eBay. Their first party sales are an absolute joke! Look at the sales MS and Sony do with their first party titles. There's no comparison, Nintendo's games are overpriced as it is so wouldn't hurt to give us a break with a decent sale once a year or something. I want Donkey Kong, still haven't played it but not paying that price for a game that came on an old console
@BishopShiozawa
I loved Gris!
I want doom eternal 😫
@Swindla I totally agree with you.
@Cosats I just back from Yuggoth, but usually I live on Earth. You always can order a physical copy from shop and courier will deliver it to you.
@FX102A Dont expect FF games on sales lower than 50% as Square just does not go lower
Well worth checking the South Africa prices too, much cheaper than the EU/UK prices in quite a few cases (Thronebreaker £8, Diablo 3 £18, CIV6 £16, Ys VIII £17 to name a few)
Hoping for this in North America...
@Ventilator Such as...?
Wish I could buy more games, I've bought a crapload since quarantine started, and majority of them are 100+ hour RPGs
Think I'm done for a bit
I got Hyper Light Drifter for 50% off. The game was pretty good; worth 9.99, but the fact it is frequently 7.50 on other consoles bugs me. The 2.50 is not for portability or optimization, it is Switch Tax.
@Moistnado
Then you should have waited for 60% off bringing it down to $7.99 to support dev (sending the right message)
Though as you said it is def worth $9.99
This sale is going to break me. Thronebreaker, Alien Isolation, and most definitely time for Kingdom Battle at £7.50. Not to mention Atelier Ryza - a game now so rare that even £35 seems like a bargain...
There are dozens of games from my wishlist currently on offer /o
US eShop has 791 games on sale!
There's some good ones in there
Let's see next week if Nintendo puts their own for 50%
@Murbs Alien Isolation is also in the sale? been waiting for that one. And as it looks like it won't ever get a physical release,I may finally pick it up
Picked up The Touryst and will probably get This is the Police 2.
@PlayedNSlayed £20.99 from £29.99
I finally bought civilisation 6.
And thinking about Asassin creed rebel.
@Murbs hard to say no then really
BotW is three years old already, give it a decent sale.
@Moistnado This “Switch tax” is entirely on the dev’s side, there is no such thing for most indies.
@rushiosan
Never gonna happen.
Nintendo games rarely go on sale and if they do its 5% at max.
They do this because they know their evergreen titles will sell regardless.
As for me I spotted a musou game with my name on it.
@brunojenso Not yet, I think Nintendo life reported it coming next Thursday (9th April)
I downloaded Monopoly for £7.49 I gotta give it a go soon, I've heard about the loading times can take as long as 20 minutes! whoops!!
If those are the highlights, I will be saving a lot of money this time around.
@KitsuneNight Nintendo games do go on sale, usually a third off which is a lot better than 5%. Breath Of The Wild, over three years old, is still shifting copies physically and digitally every week without fail, there’s simply no need for them to put it on a 50% off sale... as much as I agree that I’d love to see it happen.
@AmplifyMJ
In this time with people stuck home and no jobs, they could really capitalize on some massive earnings if they are smart enough to drop 1st party games to 50%. I'm not asking for 60, 70, 80 or 90 like the indies are doing. 50% for 3 yr old games is a realistic expectation. They are loosing out on so many sales right now because their console production has been severely impacted. Animal Crossing could have led to so many more Switch units sold if it wasn't for the virus messing up their production. This is specially bad because this was their last year to significantly grow their user base before the next generation arrives.
Got Ni No Kuni on SA Eshop for £25.
How about us Americans? We are stuck at home too.
HUNDREDS of games, squished into ONE page, listed in no particular order, with an interface that chugs every two rows of scrolling! Who came up with this??? They could at least list games by the same dev, like the Steamworld ones, together. Then, theres the fact that some of the time, you can't even see the name of the game on the list as theres a 75% off sticker or metacritic score over the title or the writing is microscopic! The competition are just so far ahead of Nintendo with their sales and subscription services. Not to mention the fact that their sales prices cant keep up either. God of War was released over a year after Breath ... u can get it for £8.99 in a PS sale - the max you'll pay for it is £15. For the people that own the big 3 consoles, Eshop sale is the last place i'd go.
@Claytonbob
We have 791 games on sale last I checked
@jamesthemagi @AmplifyMJ
Yeah but that is the point.
Whe games will sell anyway at ( near to) full price.
There is no reason for Nintendo to drop the price, because these titles sell like gangbusters anyway.
Mario Kart 8 is 6 years old and stil sells for 60 bucks.
That's just the way it is.
Nintendo doesn't play by the it's X amount of years old, better drop the price, rules the rest of the industry does.
( It helps that most Nintendo games are solid titles and that there is no dlc gouging going on. )
@KitsuneNight
I agree
I'm aware they do not follow "rules"
I've had decades of experience with them
But these Corona times called for these measures
They are leaving money on the table
Think about it, who doesn't have Zelda, Kart, Odyssey, DKC by now?
The people not willing to pay full price for them
Those "evergreen" titles have been selling because consoles keep selling, "new" people were buying them.
But with a decrease in console sales due to shortages, who is going to buy them?
@nimnio
There is no sale yet for 1st party games
That will be next week for EUR, idk NA
They have yet to announce the %
I'm VERY VERY tempted by EVERSPACE.
Wanted it for ages but £35 was too rich for me. Now it's about £23 I think.
@jamesthemagi Yeah, I should have waited. Not the end of the world, but the general overpricing of games that do not require additional development on Switch and are not even put on an expensive cartridge or price-matching copies sold at retail, always feels like a slap in the face.
I'll finally pick up BOTW if it's discounted next week
@fluggy Yeah, lol. Its pretty messy. The chugging every two row is horrendous! I didn't even bother to go through all that mess..
@jump
Me too, counting on it and a few good coins
Tempting for MK11 but as much as I would like to support Switch 3rd party efforts, I think I'll grab it for PS4. Still, idk...there is a rumor about a GOTY edition coming soon 😣
@NotoriousWhiz a lot. Just look the list above for some of them.
Any hidden gems you could recommend, folks? I already have access to most of these games on Switch/PS4/Xbone/Wii U.
I picked up Kiai. Not bad for €2.50. Love the art style
Hey guys, I know this may be a bit unrelated but on the EU 3DS shop the Etrian Odyssey games, as well as other Atlus games, are 50% off, making certain games less than $10. If you've ever been interested in playing EO I'd highly recommend it, the series really has a true home on 3DS hardware.
Hellblade is finally mine! Finished the game on PS4 but really wanted to see how it holds up on Switch. Definitely impressed! Some parts are not that good looking, but overall it's an impressive port.
NL liked the Touryst a while ago, so for 30% off picked that up (it's kind on the ever-decreasing memory card space too!). Surprisingly little else that I would want which I haven't already previously bought though. For others though, I would recommend:
Katamari Reroll is 50% off at £8,
de Blobs 1 + 2 for just over £5 each
Crypt of the Necrodancer for £3.50
Rogue Legacy for under £4
(Yes, I do like old ports!)
bastion is a great game 80% is a steal
Bought the Animal Crossing game but didn't know that I wouldn't be able to find the Nintendo console to play it on!
@Incarna
Don't know in your country, but in mine Axiom Verge has been cheaper
That's not much of a saving tbh I can get them cheaper retail still lol Nintendo still have a lot to learn in terms of their sales
Slay the Spire is showing as discounted in the UK store.
...Can North America get this sale too, please? I'll take Tropical Freeze at $40.
Would recommend Astral Chain to anyone who hasn't tried it.
Nintendo's own contribution is as awful as ever I see, I mean if you use the coupons Zelda is basically the same price its always been
As usual Nintendo hates us americans. I mean I'm getting bored too in quarantine. Every day is go to work, get yelled at and ay games. Plus new Horizons is a lackluster animal crossing game
Can’t see any discount at present on SLAY THE SPIRE. Still showing as £19.99. Is this an error by NL or is this game going to be discounted later?
Must say, Nintendo never fail to disappoint with the meagre discounts they offer on first-party games. I deliberately held off buying anything in this current sale to see if they might actually offer 40-50% off but no. Of course not.
Likely proceed and spend the cash on Nindies instead. Got my eye on WARGROOVE, BATTLE CHASERS: NIGHTWAR and the aforementioned SLAY THE SPIRE if it gets a price cut. Already bought DARKSIDERS WARMASTERED EDITION for Wii U as it was £2.99!
I still need the Donkey Kong for Mario + Rabbids.
Astral Chain is also a tempting offer
I really hoped to see Xenoblade 2 in the list, too bad.
I'll probably get the complete edition of Mario + Rabbids and call it a day.
Been holding off on Kirby forever. My son is itching to play it, so maybe I'll get it during this sale... Maybe.
Are there ever any sales for the US at all? I'd REALLY like to pick up some Nintendo Games at a discount already.
@Swindla agree with you mate. Nintendo have never been a generous company and their sales certainly reflect that. I would have thought now with all that’s going on in the world would be a good time to ditch the greed and put a decent sale on for a change for first party titles.
A lot of companies are doing lots of good things yet Nintendo still can’t put on a digital sale where the price is less than I can get it at retail! 🤦♂️
@datamonkey I wonder if you can see the irony in your comment... requesting a price cut and then using the current pandemic as justification for why your desire should be fulfilled. Greed begets greed?
In the UK most of these prices are comparable if not cheaper than when the same game is on sale at retail.
(Edit: last sentence required a change of words).
@Ajent no I’m not using the current situation to try and better my position. It’s Nintendo that have decided to have a sale not me.
I just find it annoying that they’ll put on a “sale” but due to the already inflated prices on eshop they end up being the same price as retail. I’m not even going to begin getting into the whole debate about packaging costs, logistics etc. So when is Zelda at £59.99 on the eshop cheaper than £42 at retail?
Riptide GP is VERY good for a budget game. Makes me reminisce of games like Hydro Thunder and Wave Race. If you like water racing games GET THIS ONE
Damn, was really happy for astral chain sale until i opened eshop and saw that i can get physical for the same price -.-
@datamonkey I’ll take that as a ‘No’ then; you can’t see how ironic your comment is.
You weren’t trying to use the pandemic to ‘better your position’. You were using it to suggest Nintendo are greedy for not offering a bigger discount. It’s pretty gross. And greedy.
Picked up Conduct Together (-90%), Völgarr (-90%), The Stretchers (-30%) and Shakedown Hawaii (-50%)
@Ajent
Amen to that!
I'm not seeing the Slay The Spire discount. I'm in Europe. UK only?
@citizenerased In UK. No discount on SLAY THE SPIRE here either (as of when I checked last).
@brunojenso £15 in South Africa if that's any good to you
Got Divinity, but I dont have an idea of what Im doing. A nice long weekend to find out
@Scottwood101 Did exactly that
Thanks for the heads up
@datamonkey
What on Earth does ‘what’s going on in the world’ have to do with a Digital games sale on a Console?
@electrolite77 because so many people are losing jobs, not working due to quarantine, and money is tight without paychecks.
I just added $99 to my american account... massive sale in Europe!
@electrolite77 if you look around at what measures of goodwill other companies are offering to people in need you will find out...
@Ajent yes I do see the irony and it’s a point well made.
It still doesn’t negate the fact of what I mentioned prior...
Shining Resonance Refrain worth picking up?
@datamonkey
I’ve seen plenty of companies giving/discounting food and essential supplies to Key Workers. That’s not the same as giving any old chump a Discount on an an ephemeral product like Video Games.
@datamonkey ,
Discounts on first party Nintendo titles that are already to expensive, considering there is no cost to ship, no box or cartridge to supply, 30% off is a joke, kind of like their prices in the first place.
Agree with you fella, why people buy these games on digital escapes me, even more so when you consider Nintendo's track record with online purchases and accounts.
@PikaPhantom
Doesn't seem like 1st party stuff came over to NA
@Lroy
Given the situation I honestly expected them to "splurge" and give us at least 40% but nope
Their lost
@Ajent
That's a mighty high horse
@electrolite77
They are betting that people will be willing to spend more for the same product due to arrogance. They are plain wrong because people are out of jobs, have less disposable income and they provide a product that is not essential. I'm not saying do it out of the goodness of your heart. Like you and me, they have their own Bill's and employees, but from a business perspective what they are doing makes no sense.
1. If they would have offered a real discount people would have remember their goodwill, not their greed and come back for more during good times
2. They are shooting themselves in the foot because of the shortages they are not making money on console sales and physical retailers are limited.
So now they'll move a few more units than what they were, but not as much profit will be generated if they would have brought it down a bit more.
They seriously need to take notes from the indie developers
So, is the mention of SLAY THE SPIRE being discounted in the above article a mistake or what? Still not seeing any evident discount on the game from the UK eShop. What a tease, lol!
Ooh boy, I can’t wait for NoA to match this sale!
/s 🙄
@HalfAWorldAway yes, if you like that kind of games. I picked it up on release and had fun
@jamesthemagi you think I’m ‘on a high horse’?
You think it’s OK for people to ask for a bigger discount on video games because... Coronavirus? I’m sorry if I’ve misunderstood, which I’m assuming I have, because surely that can’t be right?
@Ajent
People don't need to ask for videogame discounts, they are not essential
Developers are the ones providing them because of coronavirus at previous all-time lows or even new ones
Supply and demand
Nintendo is arrogant in assuming that given the situation people will buy their games at such price and are leaving money on the table
Where is the USA sale?
@jamesthemagi
I asked my Friend who lost his job about the price of games in Nintendo’s sale and he “couldn’t give a s**t.” Times are hard. People are dying, seriously ill and losing their livelihoods. Projecting that onto some Gamers sense of entitlement regarding what price they should be offered for some games is crass, inappropriate and very strange.
Was gonna grab "Slay The Spire" but there doesn't seem to be any discount on the UK eshop
@electrolite77
As I stated, videogames are not essential.
Gamers are not asking for a discount due to the circumstances.
Developers are providing discounts because naturally, with less disposable income, the demand for their product has lessened.
Nintendo, due to pride/arrogance/ dumb greed refused to lowered their game prices to maximize profits when others have.
In a simple example you can move 10 units at $60, you only made $600 in sales, but if you had lower it to $40 you can move 20 units which means you made $800 in sales. It's simple business, specially when digital supply caps only at amount of consoles.
Coronavirus has taken many lives, yet there are many other things that go on around the world that you simply do not care about because the media has not focused on. Maybe not caring about those equally important things is crass and inappropriate too.
@electrolite77 I didn’t say they are essential supplies. However seeing as most of the world are quarantined at home with little to do, videogames become that little bit more important.
Let’s compare to image & form who gave away 2000 copies of their games to help people pass time. They’re nowhere near as big as Nintendo yet can still offer a gesture of goodwill...
@johnvboy I’m with you man!
Once you take out the costs involved selling to retail v’s digital, Nintendo are probably making and extra ~20% as it is...
@datamonkey
It’s such a pathetically minor, first world concern. Basically people want stuff cheaper and will use any excuse, no matter how crass, to justify it. The mind boggles.
@jamesthemagi Nintendo isn’t doing anything because of Coronavirus. It’s a Spring sale. That’s what they’ve called it. That’s what they call it every year.
No one is arrogant, other than the people asking for more and using the current world situation as a way to justify asking for more.
That was my point. I don’t think pulling people up on that puts me ‘on a high horse’. The person I made that comment to even acknowledged that I had a point.
You seem to be asking for a deeper discount just because you think it makes more business sense, regardless of Coronavirus, which is fine (even if I disagree- you even acknowledge the supply and demand logic).
But don’t condescend me because I pulled someone up for saying ‘please can we have a bigger discount because Coronavirus is sad’ (which is what was happening and it’s what you commented on).
@electrolite77,
We just want a fair price fella, the e-Shop has an insane markup for offering less, and let's be honest here, it's only to protect the retailers.
@NotoriousWhiz The e-shop is in dire need of some in-depth curating. We also need more filters and a proper review & recommendation system. Why not also employ some basic machine learning to have suggestion pages for people based on the games they've spend the most time with? Seems easy and straightforward enough and would ultimately lead to increased sales. Not sure what's keeping Nintendo, other than being them being all Nintendo about this stuff.
I picked up Wonder Boy Dragon’s Trap for 60% off and enjoying it so far. The amazing part of this game is the ability to switch from the original retro game to the hd remastered version by clicking the right trigger. Amazing game so far and recommended for retro game lovers.
@Ajent “please can we have a bigger discount because Coronavirus is sad”
I didn’t say anything like that. I merely stated that if there’s ever a good time for Nintendo to put on a decent sale, it’s now. Go and re-read my comment and stop putting words in my mouth...
I just took a look at Nintendo on the stock market and they are at 44,370 which is close to their 52 week high of 47,000, I wouldn’t expect any real sales from Nintendo until Black Friday because as a business they don’t have to right now.
@datamonkey I don’t need to... you just typed it in your reply to me. It’s exactly LIKE what you said.
@johnvboy
I’ll put aside that there’s nothing wrong with protecting retailers (competition is good for Consumers) and there is no definition of ‘fair’ (if Nintendo games are selling why should they reduce them further, and Third-Parties set their own prices). However seeing people respond to a Pandemic that is killing people and making others seriously ill and promises to cause an Economic Depression with ‘right, we should be entitled to some Cheap Video Games now’ is pathetic.
I am still waiting for a discount for the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - Torna expansion
@Ajent yes and what’s wrong with expressing my opinion? An example of the point I was making:
https://9to5mac.com/2020/04/09/apple-tv-plus-stream-for-free/
So many are doing so much to help others in a time of need, it’s a nice goodwill gesture in my opinion. Obviously Nintendo can do what they want, it’s their prerogative, it just seems poor in comparison to what other companies are doing when many find these sales insulting in the first place due to the pre-inflated digital prices.
@electrolite77,
Or course not, retailers must be protected, but still the prices are high for Nintendo first party titles, even more when you consider the savings on parts and logistics, my comment has nothing to do with the global pandemic, I would just like there to be some more incentive to go digital that Nintendo are offering.
@electrolite77,
As for the right to get some cheap video games then that's up to Nintendo, they do need to react to the current climate to stay within the market, I don't think it's an entitlement for customers to expect this, but you do have to consider as a company that your customers might not have as much disposable income to speand on none essentials.
@datamonkey I give up. You’re not worth. Good luck, you’ll need it.
@Kaile I'm playing Dragon Quest XI these days and seen this was a similair game but with ack and slash elements, which other games would you say it was like?
As usual NA is getting FA.
Whether or not these games are on sale (NFP) I would rather buy a new game for full price, then buy a last Gen game for full price. Tropical freeze has been out since last gen and it's still launch day price. At this point I may just buy all my FP games used, as it is the smarter option.
SLAY THE SPIRE discount has finally shown up on UK eShop. Fiver off = £15.
@HalfAWorldAway Probably the closest are ys viii and tales of vesperia.
If you are looking for good rpg, i also recommend Labirynth of Refrain, it is on pretty good discount at the moment. It is not an action rpg though.
Will they add more first party games to the sale? I really want Mario Odyssey but I
don't want to cause unneccessary strain on workers by ordering a physical copy, yet I also don't want to be ripped off...
@mesome713 Hey do you happen to know what time it will end exactly or if it will still be on the 19th I just want to know if it will end on 19th or 20th, thanks
@Roman292922 I'm not sure, sorry.
I recommend Runner 3 at 90% off.
@Roman292922 I don’t know for sure but I’d guess it will finish at 11.59pm on 19th. In other words just before the 20th starts...
Didn't end up buying anything on Switch myself. Got Spyro on Xbox as it would run better and I was going to get LEGO Marvel 2, but for £10 more I could get the full LEGO Marvel Collection with all DLC on Xbox.
My brother however just bought a Switch and I recommended him buying a few games so hopefully he's got them.
Bought the Witcher, Mario and Rabbits, Runner 3 and Red faction. Enough to play this year!
@johnvboy this is why companies like Nintendo and Disney are where they are. They created great IP and never sold out. They do on occasion have very good deals on older stuff. And I think they gave you a free digital game with purchase of MK8.
Imagine what Nintendo would be like now if they got out of the hardware business like Patcher suggested. Put their games on mobile. It just wouldn't be the same.
@rockodoodle,
I have no issues with the prices of Nintendo's games, their evergreen titles are great at holding their value, my issue is that the online games should not be more expensive than retail as Nintendo's overall costs are less, the same price would be a much better idea, then when Nintendo had a e-Shop sale on their first party games it would actually mean something, rather than closer to retail price.
I wonder why NA didn't put any 1st party games on sale?
@Nintendofan83 A lot of times NA gets the same sales, but sometimes before or after EU. Guess we'll see if the pattern happens for this sale. I've got my eye on astral chain
@WoomyNNYes Fire Emblem Three Houses for me =)
Might be doing a quad dip here! Then a triple flip on n. Sane tril. A a double top on the witcher which is just as smooth as the ps4 version id say😎👍
has there ever been a discount on Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna?
Cries in America.
Purchased Astral Chain yesterday. Zero regrets.
