Nintendo has issued a notice to fans in Japan this morning regarding the current status of Switch console shipments, revealing that shipping will be temporarily put on hold.
The message, which was shared on Nintendo's official Japanese Twitter account, says that both the Switch Lite and standard console (including the newly released Animal Crossing Limited Edition) will only be shipped out to those who had reserved a unit this week. Standard console shipments to retailers are not going ahead, and an update for next week's shipping schedule is expected to follow.
Towards the end of last week, a Nintendo spokesperson revealed that despite various efforts being made by the company, the ongoing stock issue situation "has not changed" and shipments are still getting delayed. It isn't just Japan that has been affected either, with the US and Europe also struggling to keep up with demand.

Been seeing posts all over my Facebook feed lately from people looking for Switches. Pretty hard to get your hands on one here too at the moment it seems.
Switch profiteering has begun....
Trick is to buy a Switch with toilet paper.
You have to scalp the scalpers!
Switch is selling out for all the wrong reasons.
This is like literally the worst news to come out of this whole virus thing literally!!! 😭😭😭
It's bad when Scalpers are buying them up and making a huge profit, something needs to be done tbh!
The Switch lite is still in stock here in the Netherlands, but the Switch sold out almost everywhere.
Scalpers right now:
Best of wishes to everyone weathering the storm. Nintendo's probably one of the companies that's better equipped to handle this, but it's probably still rough for them and everyone else in Japan. Hopefully things go back to normal ASAP.
I have an OG Switch and I had wanted to get a new model but it's been impossible. The prices here in South Korea are soaring over 500,000 KRW which is about $425 USD and that's if you can actually find one for sale. Used PS4 systems have flooded the market but no Switches. I haven't seen the regular or Lite model in a retailer in about a month.
If I could export my saves to USB I'd probably sell my switch for more and buy one again later.
I was able to pre-order the Coral Switch Lite from GameStop last Monday (for my daughter). Should be delivered today.
I haven’t checked the local Walmart recently, but they have been sold out of all models.
I bought my v2 Switch literally less than two weeks before my state went to shelter-in-place. I appreciate having it every single day.
I just so happen to be at the right target at the right time a few days ago. Was able to score a regular Nintendo Switch while there to buy a Lite. Crazy thing is, I have a Lite coming in the mail. I was too impatient wait. I wanted to play it over my three day weekend. So I decided to go to one of only two Targets that had the Lite.
When I get up to the register, I tell the guy what I want. There were only three Lites in the display case. He ask if I wanted a Lite. It tripped me out because I only saw the three Lites. He told me that they had just gotten in a shipment of the regular Switches. I was like YES!!! ILL TAKE ONE!!!! Haven’t regretted my purchase one bit.!!!
Meanwhile in Russia most of gamers still think : "Adults don't play in Nintendo games ARRR" * in result in Russia you can easy buy this console, heh. Srsly, acnh switch be avaliable to pre order two weeks in a row, before its expired.
@DinnerAndWine
A little insensitive, given the scores of people who have passed away.
Been casually looking for a Switch Lite just so I can leave my regular Switch at home and there's literally nothing. My wife had to get one on Craigslist, but it's hard to find one that's not being price gouged. I mean, the shortage is temporary. Out entire area is out of stock in every store except GameStop but they're all closed here in Washington. I will just wait for more stock, not going to pay $300+ for a Switch Lite.
@shpendalf Then maybe people all around the world need to import Nintendo Switches from Russia then if that's the case.
Not Nintendo's fault. Not like anyone saw this pandemic coming. 2 months ago my only worry for the future was the usual political nonsense. But now I'm not even sure if I'll be able to leave the house next month.
I got the AC Edition Switch 2 weeks ago for a good price on eBay
Now the prices have gone through the roof
@Heavyarms55 The scary thing is people did see this coming and were either silenced or ignored.
@Zeraki Yeah, it is scary people knew it was coming.
@DinnerAndWine wow, so people dying isn’t the worst news from the virus? Is it really shipments of the Switch getting halted?
I have all these eggs here. There's a lot of baskets I could put them in, but I think I'm going to just put all of them in this one giant basket. True, it has a bear trap at the top, and I might never get my eggs out. And if I put all my eggs in that basket and the basket falls apart, which it's prone to do, I loose all my eggs, and by then It'll be next to impossible to put any eggs in any other basket as they'll all be closed up and barely able to hold any eggs at all.
But for some reason it just seems really smart to take every single egg and put it all in the one hazardous, unstable, high risk basket. It cost a few cents less.
