Re: Poll: Do You Think Switch Can Catch PS2's Total Sales Before 'Switch 2' Arrives?

jamesthemagi

@AstroTheGamosian
If the next Fiscal year you are referencing is April 2024 to March 2025, instead of the current then you are completely wrong.
The Switch is at 129 M as of the end of Q1 of the current financial year. Let's say Q2 (which is now) they sell 3M, Q3 they can sell 7M and Q4 they will sell 3M. That means the current financial year will finish at 142M + 15M = 157M
I suggest you switch your wording to:
Nintendo is projecting 15M Unit sales the "current" fiscal year.

I was always leaning no, and as of late it is becoming increasingly impossible.
Best Buy, Target and Walmart have shelves of the 4 main variants of Switch Lite along with plenty of OLED models. Sometimes they are so numerous that they open up another shelf. Market is saturated. Unless Nintendo has amazing bundles or price drops either in
1. Black Friday
2. After New Year/when new console gets announced
Or 3. When console releases and they want to clear shelf space
I see almost no chance of then breaking the record

@Spider-Kev
I 100% agree about the time constraint
@mookoo, @ArcticEcho
Everytime I start a playthrough, after dropping it for a while, it literally stresses me out
Time passes by way too fast for me
I understand not making the days too long or unlimited because then you fall into the trap of doing "everything" the 1st season/year and then the game becomes boring. I get having the cycle is a critical component of the experience
But as it stands, the day goes by way too fast for me
I wish he would create an option to have time slowed 1.5 times (ex from 14 to 20 mins/day).
If you want to go to sleep early because you finished everything you wanted to, you always have the option of doing that, but if I need more time, there is no option right now for me to have that.
If he integrates the extra time as a toggle/switch/option in menu that would make everyone happy!

Re: Review: Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy Of The Duelist: Link Evolution - A Decent Card Battler For Your Switch

jamesthemagi

For anyone on the fence:
Negative
1. Booster packs are not limited to 3 copies maximum per card, which makes it a grind to get certain rares if not included in a character's droplist
2. Game still crashes, but not too often thankfully (Konami should remedy this, but they have move on)
Positives
1. There is an update that added even more cards and more duels to the last season
2. Updated rule does not limit certain summons anymore

Seeing Pokemon HGSS on the list reminds me of how sad BDSP makes me.
The only remake to not include the national dex or the graphics of the current gen. I can't believe ORAS has a larger roster.
It could have been the definitive version of Gen 4. An even better Platinum!

As a summary, people feel the added dungeons in the previous versions are not of the same quality as the rest of the game. But honestly, their exclusion is baffling. If you do not care for it, you can always skip it, but why not cater to those who enjoyed it? Personally, keeping it out of this version just feels like missing out.
FF4 I can live w/o the Lunar Ruins, the extra weapons are nice though. Swapping party members is a horrific omission though. It keeps the players from enjoying the game with their favorite characters From what I gather, the PSP version is the best!
FF5 I can live w/o the new extra Dungeon, but the 4 new jobs are sorely missed
FF6 I actually like the 2 extra dungeons with all the bosses, but more importantly, it's missing some espers

The new orchestral arrangement makes the sound "superior" over all other versions. I put quotations because I personally love the music even from the "horrible" soundchip of the GBA versions.
And the pixel remaster is also "superior" in graphics over the previous 2D versions. Quotations again because some people say the new sprites may have lost some charm or that the colors are a bit off.
Personally, if you chose to play through the previous versions, I do not feel that the graphics and sound are dated.

#1 who the hell are you to tell me to go to another site?
#2 you can't have it both ways. You can't state you are a professional journalist relaying the facts and then infuse your opinion when it is inconsequential to the quality of the product.
As I stated before, I am not against the reviewer showcasing the "full" story in the body of the review. However, it is unprofessional that they allow it to influence their score of the product. How does a more complete collection earn a lower score than the previously released one on the same site?
If NintendoLife pays their reviewers to state their opinions then they can hire anyone off the streets, no need to have a journalist do this job.

@WatsonWatson
I am not arguing against a fluctuating review score based on price. I merely pointed out that this site will not do that. With the sheer amount of Switch games that exist, there is no way for them to review them all with the staff numbers they have, much less to go back and update it. They also lack an automated system to track prices and change the score accordingly.
Regardless, what is the value of a game? Fire Emblem 3 House's 80 hrs of gameplay for $60 comes out to $0.75/hr. So Metroid Dread's 10 hours for $60 means that game is trash? Maybe we should do it based on genre to make it fair. But who gets to decide the $/hr to make it worthwhile? That's the customer's domain. They have access to this information at the time of purchase whatever the sale price is at that moment. A reviewer's JOB is to focus on the merits of the game not to infuse their PERSONAL value of the product as that is extremely diverse with the reader base.
Let me give you an example:
An Olympist gymnast is a despicable person that treats others like dirt in "real" life. However, when they go compete they get judged by a panel. Should this panel take under consideration how she behaves towards others when deciding the score of her performance? If the judges do let her personality away from the game influence her score did they "do it wrong?" Yes they did and so did this reviewer.
Like I mentioned before, I am not against the dirty laundry being aired out on the review's body. The reviewer could also mention how they don't believe that $60 for 10 hours is high value. However, their final score should not reflect these things as they have no bearing on the game's merits.

Re: Mini Review: Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection - A Great But Gouging, Exploitative Package

@WatsonWatson
Gaming and other entertainment media are subject to our personal preferences so of course there will always be an inherent bias. However, when it is your job to write a review you can choose to do so objectively. For example, I do not enjoy Breath of the Wild. If I had to write a review for that game I wouldn't review bomb it because it is not to my taste. I see a game with polish, nice graphics, great performance. I could mention in the review that I do not enjoy the durability system, but it is a developer choice that is not an "error" as many individuals enjoy that. I would point out how the game has some frame drops in Korok Forest so the "purist" would be informed. The large open world is a fresh step for the franchise, but sometimes the world feels a bit empty. It is not a "perfect" game but it oozes quality. It just doesn't click with me. Deserving of a 9 in my opinion. I would like to defer the review to someone with more "experience" or preference in the genre so they can be more in depth and pick out pertinent details for the people that are attune to that genre.
This reviewer had no problem appreciating the genre. They just erroneously felt the need to allow peripherals to affect the gameplay score when they shouldn't have.

Re: Random: Pokémon Fans Are Excited For This Very Small, Specific Change

@Kilamanjaro
Game freak has repeatedly stated that Pokemon's target audience is kids. As such they will probably never bother to make an avatar that is an adult or let you age. In fact, this is the 1 franchise where aging is basically sure to never happen because of Ash. Remmeber that the games must complement the anime and the merchandise. Hence, why sometimes a rush mess is released as it cannot be delayed. I did use the word unfortunately, I am not against the idea, I was just telling you it will never happen. One of the reasons for the removal of challenge and the Battle Frontier is because GF cater the game for kids.

Re: Square Enix Is Potentially Looking To Sell Stakes In Its Studios

jamesthemagi

Maybe if they wouldn't have release KH in cloud form they could have made many more millions from Switch fans.
Also, I guess FF 1-6 Pixel are due for consoles next year... That will net them serious cash too! I'm hoping the delay is because they are adding GBA extra content (fingers crossed).
And since they've been doing a good job of going back into their vault lately I'll cut them some slack, but a release of Chrono Trigger seems obvious, but has not happen.
I bet Nintendo will pay some good money to put Super Mario RPG on NSO as well.
