Re: Epic Vice President Mark Rein Remains Unconvinced By Second Screen Gaming

hcfwesker

He must not have played Need For Speed on Wiiu; where you can use the Pro Controller for driving, and stand your GamePad in front of you (mimicking an "in-dash" control screen) where you have control of all your settings, map, rivals, objectives, heck even a rear-view mirror, and such. So CONVENIENT.
Also, Pikmin 3, which Nintendo knows their system best; I love how they allow you to switch controls on the fly (GamePad to wiiMote/nunchuk) without having to go into a menu. Using WiiMote/Nunchuk while having your map always displayed and setting objectives and directions for your party members is ingenious. It's almost hard to go back and play games on my PS3 ( my PS3 is only used as a wifi Netflix player in my bedroom lol) but all I play on PS3 is Portal 1 & 2

I really haven't tried the 2nd screen apps for other systems so can't really form an opinion on them; but you can tell they were just integrated for the sake of having what nintendo brought to the table.

Re: PS4 and Xbox One Surpass Wii U Lifetime Sales in the UK

hcfwesker

@jrob23 Did you read what I wrote, thoroughly?
"Yes, I love mario games, they're fun ... but [[[[[[[[[[[[many longtime nintendo fans I grew up with are tired of the milking of Mario Nintendo relies so much on]]]]]] ..... Mario is fun, I enjoy each core platforming mario title, but it's not bringing back the core gamers you lost long ago."

I have no issue with Mario/Luigi titles. I play and enjoy them all (except I don't care for the Party or Sports games with Mario). I was just giving the general impression from many of my friends (and what I read everywhere on why many have moved on from N) that I grew up with and why they, along with many others, have moved on from Nintendo.

Re: PS4 and Xbox One Surpass Wii U Lifetime Sales in the UK

hcfwesker

As a diehard Nintendo fan, even I'm not oblivious to the poor decisions made going into the WiiU. It's a great console and I love it dearly. But Nintendo screwed up trying to ride off the success of the Wii going into the current gen. The wii sold like crazy, we all know that, but it was a fad for the "non-gamer audience" and they have since moved on; or they noticed 3rd party games their friends were playing were not available for the Wii, add in the horrible online structure, and waggles controls and they moved on, as well.
Yes, I love mario games, they're fun ... but many longtime nintendo fans I grew up with are tired of the milking of Mario Nintendo relies so much on. We get 5-7 games a year starring mario, whether it's 2d, 3d, sports, rpg, party, whatever. Yet so many of their franchises have layed dormant for YEARS. Mario is fun, I enjoy each core platforming mario title, but it's not bringing back the core gamers you lost long ago.
Nintendo is targeting the younger audience which does NOT make sense. Younger gamers are easily swayed into what their friends or the "cooler older gamers" are playing, and they're all on XB & PS ... these kids will whine and cry for what they want. There's not many that will first ask for a WiiU.
What's really ironic, is they saturated the media with Wii commercials, but what sold the Wii was word of mouth. This time, Nintendo was banking on word of mouth to the sell the WiiU (seeing as they never had ads for it anywhere; and look at the state we're in.
As said, I LOVE the WiiU. My favorite console since the N64. But I just can't understand the decisions being made on Nintendo's marketing stratgey.

Re: These Three New Kickstarter Projects Are Trying To Fund Their Way Onto Wii U

hcfwesker

@JustinH Thanx for the headsup. I just checked and seems to be the plan. I'll check back in a few days to see the turnout. I'll most likely go with the $25 reward-tier.
Though one quote on the page has me a little iffy ... "we commit that this game will be an OUYA exclusive for a period of time" .... which means we could wait even longer for our version. I'll have to look more into that.

Re: Review: Batman: Arkham Origins (Wii U)

hcfwesker

@DESS-M-8 Agree with you, except on the lacking story part. The previous Arkham games I was more blown away by the gallery of villains used, where as the stories, they just seemed 'ok' to me. But Origins had several nice twists and nice ways to introduce certain character's relations with Batman it literally had me gripped throughout. Most Arkham games I'm focused on the collectibles and 100%'ing, Origins I hurried through the main story because it really did have me intrigued throughout. 8/10 for me as well. I'm not obsessed with numbers, but how Origins gets a 6 & some mindless "physics broken tilt" eShop game 'Puddle' (worst WiiU game purchase, for me) gets a 7 is beyond me

Re: Nintendo's Miiverse Social Network Finally Makes Its Way To The 3DS

hcfwesker

My question is, are they planning on adding the ENTIRE 3DS catalogue; retail games, eShop games, apps, etc on the 3DS Miiverse. Like how each game, app, etc has it's own section on WiiU. 3DS Miiverse is going to be insanely huge and if they add them by release date will be a nightmare to navigate and find game sections. Hopefully they make a system to have it more organized, like alphabetically, genre, or something more convenient then from newest to oldest.

I'm just hoping they don't merge the 3DS & WiiU Miiverse forums with one another.

Re: Nintendo of America Launches Weekly eShop Price Promotions

hcfwesker

OK, I'm kind of confused here .... it seems Nintendo is doing some things that actually make sense, recently. This is great news for us VC addicts. now just get the games out.

Already have these due to the 3DS A,bassdor, and WiiU $1 VC upgrades. But it's a most welcome addition as long as these are weekly promotion deals.

Re: Wii Party U and Wii Fit U Deliver Major Increase to Wii U Hardware Sales in Japan

hcfwesker

Very happy for the WiiU success story. Though, I've always been a day 1 Nintendo console buyer but with the launches of 3DS & WiiU and seeing the better deals they provide a year later is gonna make me hesitant on the next console day 1 purchase. I mean, 32gb console, mario & luigi u, we paid like $430 + tax, all that now for $299 plus tax. Just glad to finally see WiiU building a better install base.

Re: Iwata: Wii Fit U's Free Trial Period Will Improve Wii U Sales Momentum

hcfwesker

They are DEAD WRONG! I went to 13 different game retailer stores today; 4 walmarts, 3 targets, 4 gamestops, 1 best buy, and 1 toys r us ... and guess what? Not a single one of them knew what I was talking about when I asked if they had any Wii Fit Meters for sale .... not one. They didn't receive any to have in stock "supposedly" waiting for all these new WiiU buyers for wii fit U and meter lol. 1 guy at Gamestop thought I was talking about a Wii Fit Board ( not balance board) he referred to it as a wii fit board. Meaning, if the distributors don't know anything about it, then how do they expect the public to know anything about it? I just don't get nintendo and what they think is right for the system. The price drop will sale systems, the newly released bundles will sale systems, but Wii Fit is not going to push any systems. Well, maybe 2 or 3, MAYBE.

Plus, even if there were a billion advertisements promoting this promotion, it would not drive system sales. The Wii fad and everything that went with it has long gone set sail. Nintendo had some cool game ideas and gimmicks with the Wii; but they CANNOT expect that to follow through for the WiiU's success.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Doesn't Rule Out Additional HD Remakes and a Return to the Mario Galaxy Style

hcfwesker

The plus side to HD remakes and why they're so popular is because you KNOW what you're getting. Sure, they should concentrate on making 'new games' but with that there's always hesitation with new games and buyers (most people waiting for reviews or word of mouth and such). Zelda HD sold like crazy because everyone knew what they were getting right from the start (well, those who already played it before), a flawless classic game with an HD makeover.
Personally, I'd rather buy a game I know and love to play, than a new game that may or may not keep me entertained. It's why I'm a VC addict lol And, obviously my first choice is a WiiU Metroid Prime Trilogy HD edition.

Re: Review: Mighty Switch Force! 2 (Wii U eShop)

hcfwesker

"Hydro Drive" edition woulda been sweet. I loved the original and played it some more before this released; which graphics don't bother me, but going from HD to the pixelated sequel does make you wish they woulda went the HD route.

Re: Bewitching Adventure Knite & The Ghost Lights Is Confirmed For Wii U eShop Release

hcfwesker

I'm excited about this game, saw it the other day. But I just can't back $35 for a WiiU version when it might not reach the target goal for WiiU, then I'm stuck with a PC version. the stretch goal lists confuse me with the console list. Is there a WiiU stretch goal or is WiiU available from the initial fund goal? If so then I'll donate $35 to get all the goodies & extras.... I just want to be guaranteed a WiiU version if I pledge.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Confirms Minor Changes to A Link Between Worlds to Accommodate 2DS

hcfwesker

Never cared for or used the 3D effect. Once the 2DS is redesigned with a clamshell and comes in black I'll be making the shift from my 3DS XL. Length is never an issue in a Zelda game. If you're trying to blast through and speedrun to be the first to post the end credits on Miiverse well that's your fault. My 3 rules when playing a new zelda game: 100% Completion, No Guides/Walkthroughs, No Life while the game is in progress lol.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th October (North America)

hcfwesker

Mighty Switch Force 2 is only $5.99. Can't argue with that price, HD or not. Not sure if it's just a limited time introductory sale. I was expecting $10-$15. Though, something doesn't seem right since it's file size is only 100MB

Also, its pretty insulting to us that they're trying to sell a primitive NES Tennis game for $5 when we'll have Wii Sports U Tennis next couple of weeks for only $10. the WiiU VS has just gotten atrocious in quality.

Re: Review: GOLF (Wii U eShop)

hcfwesker

no way can you compare this with games like SMB3 or Megaman2 and justify it costing $5. This game, at most, should only be $2 on eShop. And, lol, the pun wars continue in that conclusion.

Re: Nintendo Download: 17th October (Europe)

hcfwesker

How are they justifying $5 for 8bit NES games like urban champion lol. I can get PS1 games like dino crisis 2, FF7, Resident Evil 2 for $6 on PSN (for my PS3 & PSP). I love Ninty and my WiiU, but my nostalgic attachment (been with Ninty since mid 80's) has been fading and fading these past few months and their VC choices and how their determining their prices. not value of the game but the console it was released on.

And, by that logic, they're creating a VC drought and bringing crappy VC games just so they will have the SLIGHTEST chance in selling. It's ridiculous and gets more painful week after week logging on and reading these 'Weekly Download' topics ... no offense to NL, not your fault

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Confirmed for Wii U and 3DS

hcfwesker

Needs a better villain gallery. It was all reptile-like villains to coincide with the lizard storyline. I was never once excited or hyped at any of the villains revealed during my gameplay (if you're gonna 'borrow' mechanics from the Arkham games, understand the grand villain cast is what also sold the game). Needs less screen tearing; and better alternate costumes longtime Spidey fans actually recognize (not the alternate universe costume crap). I' m looking forward to the game, those are just my most wanted improvements.

Re: Zelda: Wind Waker HD Release Triggers 685% Increase In UK Wii U Hardware Sales

hcfwesker

I'm glad for the little bump in success, but as I've stated before this kinda sends the wrong message to the general audience. As in the fact a 10 year old game from 2 generations ago is what is selling the system. Not new games, not 3rd party games

Don't misread into what I'm saying as "hater post" lol. I'm enjoying WW HD and glad it's gotten the response it has. But when debating with friends on other systems it's kinda hard to use this in an argument, whereas PS3/360 HD ports are just there for being there ... but seems WiiU is banking on the success of their HD port to boost sales of hardware and awareness leading up to the holiday season's release of games.

Re: Two Tribes Confirms Toki Tori 2+ Level Editor Will Not Hatch On Wii U

hcfwesker

Bummed as well. And was only interested in the level editor to share and play other miiverse players creations. I don't use steam, so I'll just brush this off. Still would have rather preferred TT1 ($2 when it arrives on eshop) as consolation but it's only $2 bucks so no worries. Still support 2Tribes and lookin forward to what they have planned for the future of wiiU

Re: Keiji Inafune Won't Rule Out Publishing Mighty No. 9 With Capcom

hcfwesker

So, if Capcom is included, should we already be expecting a $20 DL game to have $20 DLC content on day 1? For myself, I saw this as a formed company rebelling against their former employers to make the game the fans wanted but weren't allowed. Now this almost seems like a "hey capcom, see what we can accomplish without you ... get your checkbook ready if you want us back". Well, over dramatizing a bit, but I was most excited about this project cause it was like a rebellion towards Capcom, the former employees branching out on their own to make the game the fans have been craving for, for so long.

Re: Two Tribes Teases New Title While Describing Toki Tori 2+ Level Editor as "In The Fridge"

hcfwesker

I love Toki Tori 2. My personal Wii-U GOTY. The level editor was one of the major selling points for me in the beginning. I love the game, it is flawless imo ... but scrapping a feature that's been mentioned since day 1 and just saying "oh well" is not the way to handle this. I love 2Tribes, my current favorite indie developer, and there does need to be some kind of consolation towards a major percentage of TT2 owners that the level editor was one of the main reasons it swayed their purchase. I actually mentioned the level editor feature in my Club Nintendo registry of the game in "what was most influential in your decision to purchase this game ...".

I'm not gonna cry over the missing feature, but many will not let this go away silently. I mean, heck, even a free eShop DL of one of their $2 games coming soon would be a good consolation. Give us TT1 for free on eShop, when it arrives, and you're only out $2 per customer that would "actually" redeem the offer.

Re: Review: Myst (3DS)

hcfwesker

The D-pad controls combined with that ridiculous auto center crap alone made this game deserve a negative score. Luckily I got the game for $10 ... I am a Myst fan and was looking for a reason to play through it again after all these years. ABSOLUTELY no effort went into this 3DS port. NONE.

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Delayed Until Early 2014

hcfwesker

As I've posted numerous times, this & Batman AO were my 2 most anticipated games for the Holiday season. I can manage the wait though. Already overwhelmed as it is with games

@JogurtTheYogurt I did the PS1 scaling/stretch thing for dino crisis 2 on ps3; and immediately switched it back to it's original format. Though, the plus side is it's optional on ps3, which Nintendo should have just updated an option in rather than make it the only ratio available.
