@Yorumi You are wrong about the distribution of the games, though. It's not that black and white.
A streaming service could do exactly as you just described it. The Netflix way, were you pay a flat rate for a subscription service, that let you "rent" all the content. You do not own anything.
But it doesn't have to be the model every company follows, and it's definitely not the way Google Stadia works.
Google Stadia will be a free service, were you actually buy the individual games. They are your content, and Google will never remove the stuff you have previously bought.
From time to time they will remove some games from the service, because of license issues. But you will still have access to those games, if you bought them.
So Stadia is more like a digital store like Steam, Nintendo e-shop or PS Store. If those stores stop to exist, I will also loose most of my content, because I do not have enough storage to save all that content anyway. So Stadia is not that different.
That issue haven't prevented digital distribution of games to be successful. And it won't stop game streaming either.
Google will also offer a PS+ kind of subscription service, called Stadia Pro. But it's not necessary to buy and play games on Stadia.
The Pro subscribers get 4K/HDR streaming, 5.1 sound, exclusive discounts and access to some free games. But basic 1080p streaming will be a free service with Stadia.
In most of northern Europe, like here in Denmark were I live, you can get cheap flat-rate stable fiber. The world doesn't have to wait for the States to get their act together.
Yeah, I know you got crappy greedy communication companies. Your government should do something about it. But there are plenty of places besides Japan or South Korea, that have the internet infrastructure for game streaming.
I am really looking forward to try Google Stadia. I hope it works as intended. If there is a company that can pull it off, its probably Google, or maybe MS? They have the needed data centers.
I tried PS-now, but wasn't impressed with it. To much lag, although I have a nice and stable fiber connection.
So I am skeptical about game streaming, but hope that someone can make it work. Playing my games on any thin client device in my house, is something I will look forward to.
If Google Stadia works, it could easily replace my PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles. But not my Nintendo devices. Nintendo games are something special, that the other companies just doesn't have.
A lot of people are to negative about game streaming. I think it is the future of gaming, and I am looking forward to try it. If it works, it works. People should be more open minded about new things.
You are posting the same misinformation whenever there is a 8bitdo article. Why?
Please stop spreading misinformation. So many other users have previously made it clear to you, that you are wrong about your assertion.
I have two of the oldest 8bitdo controllers. The first ones they made. They have been discontinued a long time ago, but they still received a firmware update, that made them compatible with Switch, without using a dongle. That is a great service from 8bitdo.
Yeah well. It's just the nature of computing I guess. It's not an isolated iOS problem.
I can't play some very old Window games on Windows 10 either. And need some tools like dosbox to play the really old games.
At least there are some tools for Windows, that makes me play some of the old games. We haven't seen similar tools for iOS, and probably won't see any because of Apple's strict policies around App Store, and no way to side load apps on iOS.
Both Apple and Google provides great tools for developers to upgrade their apps for newer versions of iOS and Android. So it's the publishers and content holder's responsibility to keep their apps updated. I do not think we can blame Apple or Google here. They have to move forward.
They don't need all those 4k assets on Switch. We have seen this reduction of game size a lot on Switch with other big games.
Not many games are bigger than 32GB, so they could all fit on those big cartridges. But sadly not many publishers uses this option.
Also. Publishers know that the Switch doesn't have that much storage capacity, so they are probably doing a lot of effort to keep the file size down. Also for digital distribution. Getting more capacity on Switch is expensive for customers.
On PC and PS4 there is so much more space, so they are probably lazy when it comes to game size optimizations. It's certainly not an priority for them on PC or PS4. On Switch it is.
This is how it should be done. Take notice Capcom and other lazy publishers, who only care about maximizing profits.
This is how distribution of physical games should be done on the Switch. Hopefully it will pay off.
I will support this, although I didn't plan to buy the game on Switch. Have it already on PS4, but now I will get it.
Nintendo should really force publishers to release big games like this. The Switch was born to have full games on cartridges like this, with no need for extra downloads beside small patches. It's really a shame that so many publishers are ruining it all.
And by the way. All the Sonic 8-bit games are not just ports from their 16-bit cousins. They are totally unique games with their own levels and music.
And the 8-bit Sonic games also have a different approach to Sonic 2d gameplay. Mostly because the Master System hardware wasn't able to run a full speed Sonic game, so they had to change the formula a bit, and focus more on the platforming parts. And the results were pretty good.
The first game is the best one, though. The second one quite good, and then the rest were just decent.
Sonic was very successful as 8-bit on the Master System and Game Gear.
The first game in 1991 was on Mega Drive, but only 4 month later the 8-bit version came out on the Master System.
The Master System version was my first Sonic game. And I loved it. I think many Europeans have played Sonic on the Master System before they tried it on the Mega Drive.
Personally I like the first Master System game better than any of the 16-bit games on Mega Drive. Although they are great too, and some of my favorites as well.
The first two Sonic Master System games were the best ones, and they had more focus on platforming than speed. And I really like that about them.
You should really try Sonic 1 for the Master System. A fantastic 8-bit achievement, I think.
@nintendolie
Yes, they are actually typical RPG characters, because Tolkien invented the whole genre with his books.
So yeah... the characters in LOTR are the grand daddies of all fantasy RPG characters. So they can't actually be anything else than typical, when so much stuff afterwards were inspired be these characters, and the fantasy world Tolkien created.
Gandalf IS THE typical fantasy wizard. The template for all common fantasy wizards. Period.
Legolas is the original template for an hero ELF, and Gimli the original template for a hero Dwarf.
When these characters was created by Tolkien, they were highly original, but has now become typical because of endless copies of them into other fantasy settings.
PS-now is a joke. The content and the lack of supported devices makes it useless for most people.
PS-now is bound to PS4 and Windows PC! Platforms that already have plenty of high end games. There is really no big need for streaming of games on these platforms.
A streaming service should be accessible from any kind of device. That's the whole point of such a service, and were it really makes sense. Google and MS seems to understand that.
I want to play theses games on my Smart TV, Tablet, Phone, Mac, Linux and Chromebook, PS Vita, Switch. Everywhere!
The content isn't very good on PS-now either.
As a customer I want access to all my digital content I have previously bought on PS-store. Why not? And why isn't there any PS1 games, and only a handful of PS2 games on the service?
PS-now is a joke, and Sony needs to step up to make it worthwhile. It has a lot of potential.
The reason for the success of Netflix and Spotify, is to be accessible from any kind of device, and to over deliver on content for a reasonably price. Sony needs to do the same with PS-now, before it can be a success. People need to get so much more for their money than they expect, and what the currently are getting from their traditional gaming platforms.
So much negativity. But didn't expect any less from a Nintendo crowd.
I think it looks very promising. And I am all for a great streaming service with access from all possible platforms ( not like with the conservative PS now).
I also have super high speed fiber internet like most people in my country. So I am definitely among the target audience.
@Spidey-Scrub Most of northern Europe has excellent high speed internet connections. Just as Japan, South Korea and Singapore. These places are all ready for a game streaming service. So why not start now?
The rest of the world can follow when their ready, including the states.
Looking forward to this. The new extras are great. I will get it on day one.
This game is one my favorites from my childhood. Build in to my brother's Master System.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sonic the Hedgehog, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Asterix, Aztec Adventure, Wonder Boy in Monster Land and Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap were our favorite games
I'm sad to see Super Mario Run at the bottom of the list. The only decent game on the list, that is not based on micro transactions.
Fire Emblem Heroes is the same trash as so many other mobile games, that is based on micro transactions.
It's gameplay is made to get as much money out of each consumer. It's not designed to only give the consumer a great gameplay experience, so I can't support it. And I do not think that others should support it either.
Nintendo is definitely interested in exploring this kind of business model in the future. That was clear after what their president said lately. So people should stop supporting all of these kind of micro transaction games, if they do not want Nintendo to take that road.
What is wrong with a rental service, if the pricing is ok?
These Switch cloud games actually works as rental games right now, because you can't really sell them at full price. You will never own these kind of games, and they don't try to sell it like that either. It's a cloud rental.
So basically this is just as any physical rental service, and just an option for people who are into rental their games. Were is the problem in that? I think it's also priced ok, actually.
And such a cloud rental service could also be useful for people, who just wants to try the game before buying.
Edit: Sorry... Didn't see you edited your post. Forget what I said then.
People are so much against cloud gaming, although it actually already works very well in some areas and contries with a good internet infrastructure. So it will definitely be something we will see more of in the near future.
Not everyone can join this cloud based gaming future yet. And they seem to be very much on the fence about this.
But I can't really see why this is a big problem, as long as streaming isn't the main distribution way of games, and only a niche market for the ones with good internet connections.
The way it works on Switch right now, is as a rental service. Witch is a fine option to play Assassin's Creed on your Switch, if you live in Japan.
I don't like these kind of micro transactions games, no matter what. I will not support them.
These games are designed for a specific goal, and that is to attract whales who will spend endless of money on them. I can't support that.
I only support games that are designed to give it's audience a great gameplay experience, and nothing else.
Super Mario Run was not unsuccessful. It still made a lot of money, but not as much as many micro transactions games. It's a decent game for the amount Nintendo charges for it upfront. And it later got a lot of great extra content, that didn't cost anything extra.
And there are actually some other good games on mobile that is not using the "Free to play" and "Pay to win" methods, that I think people should support more. They only require a small fee upfront, and nothing more.
Small stupid games like FE: Heroes or Candy Crush is just making way to much money with their micro transactions, for what they are worth.
It's only greed from the companies behind them, that is the reason for thier existence. And their only goal is to get as much money from weak souls as possible. I will not support trash like that.
I am pretty sure, there hasn't been given any evidence that Huawei was involved. Then it would have been a big issue for European agencies and governments as well. But it isn't.
There are many Chinese companies, but the American agencies likes to make a scapegoat out of Huawei. But they seem to have no evidence behind their distrust.
I think it's sad that you think Huawei was involved in a scandal. That is not true.
It's a bigger scandal that American agencies say Huawei can't be trusted, without giving any evidence for that.
These agencies have ruined Huawei's possibilities to get any success in the US.
Huawei has big success here in Europe though. Here they sell the most phones after Samsung. But in Europe they can also compete on equal terms with other companies. Not like in the US.
Maybe the American agencies have a backdoor in every Apple device? And then thinks the Chinese government does the same thing with Huawei devices? But apparently they can't prove anything.
Your comparison with Spotify doesn't make much sense. Nintendo Online Service main purpose is online gaming and cloud saves. That is what it's all about, and what you are paying a little fee for every year.
Nintendo could have left it at that, but are giving subscribers a little extra with some NES retro games. The little NES game service is not the main selling point, and cannot be compared with Spotify in that regard.
But apparently people expect a full Nintendo-flix with the full back catalogue from NES to GameCube for a fraction of the price that Netflix and Spotify is demanding. That's absurd!!!
I love NES games, and think Nintendo Online is a fantastic service for a very reasonable price. I am happy with it. I am looking forward to what it will become in a couple of years.
And why do so many people assume, that Nintendo needs to go trough all their NES games, before they will release any SNES games for the service? They could start to release some SNES games in a few month, if they wanted to do that. We don't know when it will happen.
I really like Super Mario Party. Best game in the series since some of the earliest entries. We love to play it at my house.
The biggest disappointment is the lackluster online part of the game. It would be fantastic if you could play the full Mario Party experience online. But that's the only real negative ting I can say about the game.
The artist who made the character and skin did nothing wrong.
A women with this kind of outfit and proportions will look just like that when doing such a move. I can't see the problem, it's just realistic bouncing.
If that is a problem for someone, then you should remove the whole character or outfit. Remaking unnatural and stiff breast bouncing is even more desturbing to me.
Give the character a tight sports bra, and leave the physics alone!!!
Logic says, that they had to say all this, because no streaming service were interested in Switch at launch. Witch makes sense, after the Wii U failure.
If I was Nintendo marketing, I would have said the same thing. "It is us who do not want them". "We are only interested in making a pure Game Console". That sound much better that saying that no one is planning to realease anything on their new console.
The fact that few months later a streaming service was released on Switch in US and Japan, tells us that they are interested in streaming services after all.
"Fact is, the whole Switch UI (or whole OS for that matter) has been stagnant since launch, has only received stability updates and that is just baffling!"
That is not baffling. Nintendo has obviously leaned from past mistakes, and following new software design guidelines. And they say performance and snappiness over bloated and slow features. Less is sometimes more.
And while some people like you have been screaming and complaining for more "nice to have" features. I think the large silent majority of users have been very pleased with the minimalistic UI and fantastic performance of the OS. But the "complainers" are usually the loudest on the Internet.
"Because a Netflix rep said shortly after the launch of the Switch, that they practically had the Netflix app ready for the Switch, but were waiting for the go ahead from Nintendo."
That has not been confirmed. This was just rumors. Later Netflix said they currently did not have any plans to release their service on Switch, and no app was in development. So what is the truth here?
Fact is. Nintendo is not blocking any streaming services on Switch. Because we already have Hulu. Netflix and YouTube could just do the same, but I do not think they are really interested in the moment.
If you look at logical, it would be really stupid business wise from Netflix and YouTube to have developed an app for Switch before launch. Because they way Wii U failed, and all the uncertainty around Nintendos new console.
Unless Nintendo would have paid for the development of the apps, witch they didn't, it would be much more rational to wait one or two years to see if the Switch was going to be a success.
How do you know about that Nintendo isn't allowing services like Netflix or YouTube? Please show me some souces.
I think you are just coming with dumb accusations here.
I am sure, that if Netflix and YouTube were interested in putting there services on Switch, we would already have them by now. Just as we already got Hulu on Switch.
Nintendo isn't blocking any streaming services at all. There was just no one who cared about releasing their service on Switch after the failure of Wii U. So Nintendo platforms wasn't on their agenda anymore.
Nintendo said something about the Switch was just for gaming to begin with, and such other marketing crap. But realistically, none of the big streaming services were interested in the Switch, and Nintendo didn't want to lose face.
But when Hulu arrived on the Switch just months after launch, without big fanfare, you just knew that Nintendo didn't tell the truth about why they didn't have any streaming services to begin with. They would have loved to have them.
Now that the Switch is selling so well, we can all hope that Netflix and YouTube is currently developing their app for the machine. But the Wii U failure was really not doing Nintendo any favor in that regard.
I do not think that Nintendo will gain mutch by switching from Google to either MS or Amazon. I think they offer similar services and qualities.
Also, my guess is that Nintendo's services are hosted on Linux servers, and I think that Google and Amazon is better in that area than MS, even if they also offer Linux hosting as well.
I think the really big companies with very specific needs and specialized requirements will use Linux, and go to either Amazon or Google for their hosting. While smaller and medium sized businesses with lesser requirements would consider Microsoft Azure as well.
Although there are some really big enterprise companies already using MS Azure, so my assumption aren't really logical at all
I do not agree with you on what you wrote in your last comment. In everything else I agree with you.
Do you have any sources on that Google is behind MS and Amazon on data centres around the globe? And that their cloud hosting is inferior? I do not believe it.
I recall Google and MS going into the cloud hosting business about the same time.
I can't follow you, and do not totally understand what you want to say?
But I can say so much. From a business point of view, Nintendo has no other choice than to go either Google, Microsoft or Amazon for their kind of hosting needs.
People have extremely high demands for the kind of online service that Nintendo just released. Nintendo doesn't have the resources to host such a service by themselves on a global scale.
It would cost them billions and years to build such big data centres around the globe. And this would only be worth it, if Nintendo themselves wanted to go into the cloud hosting business, and be a hosting provider for other companies. I don't think they want to do that
You clearly do not now what you are talking about. Nintendo doesn't have the resources to make a global scaled online service totally by themselves.
Everyone is using the big three for this. Google, Amazon or Microsoft.
It would cost Nintendo billions to make a similar infrastructure and offer the same uptime and quality like the big three cloud providers. Not even Sony can't do something like this by themselves.
Yeah, I mean Nintendo used to make all kind of great accessories for their handhelds. Look at the Circle Pad Pro for 3DS for example.
And the 3DXL was first made to support people with bigger hands
So now they have made this attachable controller concept for Switch, and they are not doing anything with it at all. Usually they are so good at moneytising on everything, and pick up on opportunities
You could also make joy-cons for different sizes of hands. Like what they did with 3DXL.

To many dark and brown colors for my taste. To depressing to look at.
Re: Video: Cloud Gaming Is Viable In The Future Based On This Assassin's Creed Odyssey Review
@Spectra
Re: Video: Cloud Gaming Is Viable In The Future Based On This Assassin's Creed Odyssey Review
Nice article.
Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Earns $16.8 Million In The Month Of September
@BensonUii
Re: Huawei Is Launching A New Gaming Phone To Rival The Switch, And It Costs Over $1,000
@NIN10DOXD
Re: Huawei Is Launching A New Gaming Phone To Rival The Switch, And It Costs Over $1,000
@NIN10DOXD
Yeah... Like the Americans were putting chips in Angela Merkel's phone.
I don't trust American agencies, just like I do not trust Chinese agencies. Non of them are trustworthy from a European point of view.
Re: Huawei Is Launching A New Gaming Phone To Rival The Switch, And It Costs Over $1,000
@StarmanSSP
Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Earns $16.8 Million In The Month Of September
Stupid pay to win grinding game. It no success for us consumers that such a game is a financial success for Nintendo.
While the quite decent "pay up front and never again game" Super Mario Run was only a medium financial success.
It no good to us consumers that these kind of "pay to win" games has such massive success.
People who are paying these micro transactions in small stupid mobile games should be ashamed of them selves.
Re: Video: Here's A Look At The Latest NES Releases Now Playable On Switch
@BigKing
Re: Video: Here's A Look At The Latest NES Releases Now Playable On Switch
I love NES games, and think Nintendo Online is a fantastic service for a very reasonable price. I am happy with it. I am looking forward to what it will become in a couple of years.
And why do so many people assume, that Nintendo needs to go trough all their NES games, before they will release any SNES games for the service? They could start to release some SNES games in a few month, if they wanted to do that. We don't know when it will happen.
Re: Feature: What's New In Super Mario Party?
I really like Super Mario Party. Best game in the series since some of the earliest entries. We love to play it at my house.
The biggest disappointment is the lackluster online part of the game. It would be fantastic if you could play the full Mario Party experience online. But that's the only real negative ting I can say about the game.
The New Partner mode is also so fun.
Re: Epic Says Jiggle Physics Included In Latest Fortnite Update Were "Unintended"

Re: Video: The "Completely Insane" Policies Of Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi
@Jeronan
Re: Video: The "Completely Insane" Policies Of Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi
@Jeronan
Re: Video: The "Completely Insane" Policies Of Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi
@Jeronan
"Fact is, it's a no-brainer for Netflix and YouTube to release an app on the Switch, but it's blocked by Nintendo HQ in Japan"
That is no fact that it is blocked by Nintendo Japan. That is your assumption!
And yes. The Switch should be a interesting platform for Netflix and YouTube by now. But it wasn't at launch.
Re: Video: The "Completely Insane" Policies Of Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi
@Jeronan
Re: Video: The "Completely Insane" Policies Of Nintendo President Hiroshi Yamauchi
@jhewitt3476
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
@J_C
Ok, now I understand.
Although there are some really big enterprise companies already using MS Azure, so my assumption aren't really logical at all
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
@shani
But Nintendo's Online Service and their other services like e-shop are hosted on Google servers. Only the actual online gaming is P2P based.
And the Online Service could easily disrupt their sessions, if it is blocked in China.
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
@Jeronan
Thanks for the info.
MS is perhaps leading on centres compared to Google. But I am not sure that their service is so much better, though.
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
@Jeronan
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
@J_C
I don't think they want to do that
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
@tourjeff
Re: Random: Switch Online Service Launch Has Caused All Sorts Of Issues For Chinese Players
Stupid conclusion by the writer :
"Google servers to blame?"
Fix this by:
"Chinese government to blame!"
Please stop idiotic accusations against Western companies who gets banned for no reason in China.
Google and Nintendo can't be blamed for this nonsense.
Re: Hori's D-Pad Joy-Con Will No Longer Gobble Up The Switch Battery Life
@Heavyarms55
