Re: Mega Man Finally Arrives on Nintendo Badge Arcade

doll

yeah... this game. sigh
i've never gotten sucked into any game that starts free and later asks for money before this one, but nintendo has done it! i play most days, and i don't really want to contemplate what i've spent on virtual stickers! so far i've only used a fraction of them (weird zelda stuff and bonsai and birds).

i own a ness, still in the japanese packaging, as a collector's item. i've never really been sold on amiibo. i thought about picking up some animal crossing amiibo, but i can just see the characters in-game. i've never been convinced they had much use outside of smash and something cute to put on a shelf, and i figured it would be a waste of money if i started buying them.

Re: Feature: Five Reasons Why We Love Animal Crossing

doll

tbh, i have a real love-hate relationship with this game. but i don't think i would get so frustrated with certain aspects if i didn't love it so much.

the thing that bothers me most is that i sometimes feel stuck playing it. i know i can take a break after i stop a mover, but that means if i want to play one day, i'll be playing every day for the better part of a week waiting for that attempt. i have limited gaming time and all these great games i hardly ever play because acnl becomes an obligation.

i hate that you can't change YOUR OWN PATTERNS if you've scanned them in. i spent hours creating my own patterns so i could change them easily, deleted them once i had qr codes, and learned the hard way i'm now stuck using an editor outside the game every time or i'll have to recreate them from scratch.

i think a lot of my other complaints have been echoed by the community. approving plots is the big one. i would also like the ability to remove home additions. i've avoided adding side rooms on my house because i'm not sure if i want them, and i'll be stuck with them forever if i get them.

i realize some of my troubles can be dealt with via time travel (which i prefer to avoid) and power saves (just don't want to go there). mostly i'm hoping the next entry will be even better - after all, i've put something like 500 hours into this game, so there's definitely appeal.

Re: Rumour: More Sources Highlight NX Controller 'Gimmick' and a Major Game Project

doll

maybe this is a dumb question (probably), but i'm not sure how to read "screen controller." will there be actual buttons? because i've never really bought into phone/tablet gaming - screen controls will NEVER compare to gaming with actual buttons. it just doesn't work as well.

this doesn't sound good to me. i love my 3ds, i loved using my kids' vitas, love my consoles, but i'm not interested in a portable tethered to a console that eats data or requires Wi-Fi. i can't afford the data, and tethered to Wi-Fi isn't really mobile in many places. and i live in a large city.

ah, i remembered this recently and wondered if i had missed it. thanks for the review! if i pick it up, i expect my daughter and i will be arguing over it.

Re: Popular Super Mario Maker Speedrunner and Streamer Has All His Levels Deleted by Nintendo

doll

@jariw i was speculating on whether or why the word poo might be offensive enough to nuke this guy's levels, and i'm still not convinced that's what did it, given others have lost levels for no apparent reason. maybe that's what happened; i'm no insider. i don't think i was too far out in considering what influence japanese culture/tastes/values might have on nintendo policies, as no company operates in a vacuum.

Re: Popular Super Mario Maker Speedrunner and Streamer Has All His Levels Deleted by Nintendo

doll

i can't believe people are carrying on about his use of the word "poo," given nintendo's own content goes there and worse. what really confuses me is the idea that the word "poo" is so shocking and inappropriate for children. do any of you have children of your own?! how do you think they learn to toilet? i promise they are using some word or other for it, and it's not likely a euphemism for most. have any of you spent time around little kids? guess what words they think are hilarious? and while i'm at it, y'all know there's an all-ages poop museum in japan, right?

i think there's some other issue, and nintendo, obscure as ever, isn't going to tell the community what's really going on.

but i'm thankful i didn't acquire a wii u for my kids when they took an interest in this game.

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

doll

@Dezzy a) i used myself as an example, one of many women console owners/gaming enthusiasts
b) as a counter-example to the speculation that women might own consoles primarily to amuse their romantic partners
c) because i felt like it. ultimately, i speak only for myself. i'm not sure why my passing comment requires any particular argument. it really was what it appeared to be.
"hello, i'm a woman gaming enthusiast and quite invested. i don't like sellers who assume i don't warrant the same consideration as male consumers."

gaming is diverse enough now that devs, sellers, and etc would be foolish to conclude ignoring approximately half the population makes good business sense.

Re: More North American Women Own A Games Console Than Men

doll

fwiw, this single woman owns a ps4, ps3, xbox one, 3ds and a gaming laptop (tho i really prefer console gaming). also 3 vitas, 2 psps, and a new 3ds for kids. no man in sight.

i get pretty annoyed when sales people dismiss me or treat me like an idiot because i'm a woman, considering i spend a significant amount on this hobby for myself and family.

Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired

doll

i guess i'm not surprised, based on my understanding of Nintendo and their approach to pr. that said, i feel sorry for him - not just because he lost his job, but i never took his statements as particularly hostile or as reflecting poorly on Nintendo. i don't know why people were so bothered about it. guy tried to share some reality with fans in a no-nonsense way, and i think what he had to say was worth hearing.

a lot of people seemed really angry. why? most of us don't work in game dev or publishing industries, and just because we want game x localized doesn't mean it's feasible or going to happen.

best of luck to Pranger.
