A couple weeks ago, we found a new game coming to 3DS called 80's Overdrive. Though screenshots revealed that it was an old-school arcade racer, no more information was revealed or shown. While there's still a lot we don't know about the game, the developers recently lifted the lid on what we can generally expect out of it.
Nintendo Everything reached out to the developers and got quite a response. There will be two modes: Career and Time Attack, and there's also plans to implement some kind of track editor. Different parts of your car will be upgradeable to improve acceleration, handling, etc. in addition to extra parts like a police radio or a nitro boost. Also, there'll be some kind of side missions available, too, evidently by picking up certain items on the track along the way. The developer intends to put in at least eight cars – if not more – and there'll be at least thirty races in the career mode. Unfortunately, there won't be any kind of multiplayer, but at least there'll be 3D support.

I'll believe it when I see it.
Love the idea. Hope it happens and in the near future
Cool. Racing is a good genre for 3D games.
a 3D arcade racer sounds amazing to me. Give me online play and instant purch
OutRun? Yes, please.
Do we know who the dev is?
I thought it might be Necrosoft.
Shame there's no mention of a WiiU port. Oh well, maybe in time if we're lucky.
Yes please.
If that's a genuine game screenshot, I'll be very happy.
Very ambitious - very cool
I can't tell if the cars are too big or the road is too small. It looks rather cluttered and colourful (which might sum the 80s up lol!)
I'd personally be happy to see Horizon Chase on 3DS
Hm...police radio, upgredable parts, outrun look-alike... CRAZY CARS IV maybe Yes Yes and YES, been enjoying Chase Horizon on iOS, love these oldskul racers
good replacement for Horizon Chase
Shame about the multiplayer but I'm definitely interested in this one
Looking forward to this, though I hope it might come to mobile as well. Looks like something that could really shine on a better, high-res screen ... (really hope the 3DS successor, whatever it may end up being, does not go cheap on the screens again :-/)
Reminds me a bit of Sonic Drift... not keen.
I really hope it'll be something aking to OutRun. A nostalgic racer is always a good thing in my book. Let's hope all the gimmicks won't put the actual gameplay onto a sidetrack.
Definitely will be getting this. I grew up in the 80s and this game looks amazing
A little disappointed about the lack of multiplayer, but I'm still very stoked for this game! I'm glad all the awesome video game genres that kind of got left behind in the 80s and 90s are coming back.
This sounds AMAZING!
@JaguarWong It's from the makers of the Kung Fury game:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/373180/
They also made a crazy 31min. video as a tribute to all the over the top action movies of the eighties. They "enhanced" the video with all kinds of crazy graphic glitches that you would expect when watching an old video tape and it's actually quite funny in places.
If you haven't seen it yet, it's an absolute must if you're of a certain age (and love eighties action movies, obviously)

And if you've watched that, you will probably not be able to get that title song out of your head:

@JaguarWong The 80's Overdrive home page is here:

Note how it is completely in the same style as Kung Fury, and the page also mentions "Ever wondered how racing in Kung Fury world would look like?" making it a part of both their previous game and video. The car used in the game is also the same as in the video.
Sounds awesome! I'm okay with the lack of multiplayer, just please give me something like Outrun.
I want this even more now.
I WILLbuy this. And, I would like to request an official inquisition from NL, into the current status of that 90's Arcade Racer. Why have i not been playing that?
This game DEFINITELY interests me. I love the graphic style and the bottom screen layout. I just hope that the car upgrades aren't superficial and they actually make a noticeable difference.
I like its style, but mp is a must, sadly I understand that server's costs are impossible to indie developers.
i'm not especially interested in racers, but the 80's aesthetic takes me back! gonna keep an open mind on this.
It's not easy to get me excited from just a screenshot but this game has done it for me. Really can't wait to try this out, looks great.
The most games I play on my 3DS are SNES and Gameboy games lol. Don't take me wrong, I like the new games. Mh4, XBC, FE, etc, but those old games from when I was a kid, have so much replay value!
My kinda game! Looks nice
Track editor! Music to my ears.
Sounds better and better, though some sorta streetpass that shares replays or time trials to race against would be cool in place of multiplayer
Sounds really awesome, but damn, no multiplayer? At all?
this game NEEDS multiplayer
Multi-player would be awesome but I'll prob still get it. Can't wait for more info.
Screenshot looks like a mock-up to me... I imagine this will be a long way off.
@Skunkfish I hope it's not a mock-up because that looks extremely pretty to me.
