Re: Poll: What Features Would You Want In A Switch 'Pro'?

@Marios-love-child The world is not ready for 4K games, even a 2080 RTX struggles to keep 60 fps at 4K. The switch can’t even keep 30 fps on most games, and almost no games output at 1080p. I would set 1080p at 60fps as a good target to hit. Breath of the Wild for example, runs at like 900p when docked, and struggles to keep 30fps 90% of the time.

I was a little skepticsl at first, but the is by far the best Pokemon game in the series. I’ve been having an absolute blast. I grew up with Pokemon Yellow, so this is a dream come true. I’m not interested in a “mainline” game these days, there’s too many Pokémon and I don’t know any of them, so I don’t get excited by seeing any of them. Also, the new catching mechanic is way better, you no longer have to grind random encounters to level, you just catch the Pokémon and your entire roster gets experience points. My only complaint is that you can’t use the Pro Controller, I think motion controls are garbage, you literally “waggle” the controller to trigger an action that could have been done with a button press.

@Frenean For many reasons. They Joy Cons are incredibly small and uncomfortable to hold. Playing with non-gamers is a nightmare, my friends kept asking what buttons to press and I couldn't just say "A" because the left Joy Cons don't have labeled buttons, so you end up having to point at your controller and say "this button". The only mini-game that uses motion well is "Sizzling Stakes", the one where you hold the Joy Con as if it were the handle of a frying pan. Yet even that game could be done with a Pro Controller as it has motion controls built in. The Pro Controllers have HD Rumble as well, so even those games would no problem. The rest of the "motion" games really just make you "waggle" to trigger an action that could easily have been done with the press of a button. Also, I already had 4 Pro Controllers but only 2 Joy Cons, so I had to buy 2 more just to have a full game of Mario Party. I just wish they would just let you choose what controller you want to use like in Mario Kart.

WTF. What did I buy all these pro controllers for, next thing you know they won’t work with smash because you have to “waggle” to throw a punch. Motion controls are garbage, always have been. Every “waggle” motion to trigger an action could easily be done with a button press. Not getting this game anymore. The joycons are awful, totally ruined Mario Party.

Re: Feature: What's New In Super Mario Party?

The only problem with this game is forced Joy-Cons.They are so small and uncomfortable, I don't know why we can't optionally use the Pro Controller. It does everything the Joy Cons can do: HD rumble, gyroscope and accelerometer. Even for the mini-games that required a "waggle" to throw, just let us press "A", if not than we can waggle the damn Pro Controller.

Re: Kirby Star Allies Sets A New Series Sales Record

I've never really played a Kirby game before for more than 10 minutes. I picked this one up to play with my 6 year old nephew and we absolutely loved it. When he left I continued playing for the rest of the day. It's pretty easy, and not very long, but the graphics are great and it's still a lot of fun to play.

Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)

@Phex666 haha yea not joking. Any fast moving game is incredible to play at 120+ refresh rates. It's something you need to see in person for sure. That's why G-sync and FreeSync monitors are becoming so popular. Don't think there are any 4k monitors yet that can do those kinds of refresh rates yet though.

Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)

dfg534

@supercreeps I think it depends how you're used to seeing this game. On PC, I play on max settings at 2560x1440 resolution, and locked at 165 fps on a G-SYNC monitor. So it really throws me off and probably looks much worse than it really is. I'm sure given the time, I would get used to it.

Re: Review: Rocket League (Switch eShop)

I would return this game if I could. The performance is just awful and the resolution and graphics look like you're playing on a 3DS. There is no way 4-player split screen will be fun at 10 fps. Really wanted this game on the go, but I'll stick to the PC version, didn't realize how demanding this game was considering Mario Kart looks better, has way bigger maps, and performs better.

Re: Soapbox: Stardew Valley is a Perfect Fit for the Nintendo Switch

dfg534

I absolutely loved Stardew on the PC so I couldn't wait to pick it up for Switch!

It's too bad the save times are really ruining this game for me. It's so bad that I dread having to "end" my day. They are the longest I've ever seen in any video game. So long that I usually get up and go do something else while I wait, so the game loses it's "just one more day" addictive quality. As a programmer myself I would really love to hear an explanation for why it takes so long. I'm genuinely curious.

My only other gripe is that, after playing Golf Story, the run speed in Stardew just feels painfully slow. Slower than I remember, I had to check multiple times to see if there was an actual "run" button... there isn't. That horse can't come soon enough.
