NIS America has shared a brand new story trailer for the upcoming Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.
The video presents another quick look at the game's shadowy world, teasing some of the mysteries you'll need to unravel to escape the city of Balduq. If you need a quick refresher, check out this official game description:
Renowned adventurer Adol “the Red” Christin and his companion Dogi arrive at Balduq, a city annexed by the Romun Empire, only for Adol to be detained before setting foot inside. While imprisoned, he meets a mysterious woman named Aprilis who turns him into a Monstrum, a being with supernatural Gifts and the power to exorcise monsters. Now, Adol must ally with his fellow Monstrums to fend off the fearsome threats emerging from a shadowy dimension called the Grimwald Nox, as well as unravel the mysteries of the Monstrum curse, and the truth behind the unrest within Balduq.
It's set to launch on Switch in summer 2021, slightly after its February 2021 release date on PS4. Pre-orders for the Pact Edition, which comes with the game, art book, soundtrack and more, are already live on Amazon:

I wasn't aware this one was coming over! Great news!
Is that voice acting from Patrick Warburton?
And is that a male bartender named Shantae?
Ooooo the Centipede boss from Ys Origins at the end.
I hated that damn thing
I hope it's not too much like assassin creed... jumping from roof to roof doesn't feel like YS game at all. You can use the title and theme, but doesn't mean it will be the same. They should've sticked to old formula. Well lets wait and see
Definitely one of the most unticipated 2021 games for me
Characters moving very slowly, awkwardly except for two sword moves. I watched it muted, because I thought this was a nipon-ichi (?) game. Their music, you know? Where's this game's gameplay? End of line.
I hope i can play this subbed with japanese voices vs englished voices....imo the voices seem stiff
Very Nice. High on my Switch list for 2021
This is the type of game the Switch can do well, hopefully getting the attention it needs.
Leave it to the Japanese to butcher any and all titles in another language lol 😂
Can't wait for this, hopefully it opens to more games in the franchise coming to Switch.
Day 1. Ys VIII was fantastic. Pretty drastic change from tropical climate and time travel to dark and gothic vampire slaying.
It never bridges the games stories though, does it?
I love the early Ys games, but the recent ones really haven’t been my cup of tea and this one looks particularly bad.
I so wanted to like Ys. I love the trails series but I can't get into this one, played VIII on my Vita for 50 hours and dropped it before finishing it, I got bored I guess.
This looks like it's shaping up nicely! I still need to play through Ys VIII.
can't wait, this trailer looks horrible tho
Looking forward to this, but i don't know if I want to wait until summer for it if I don't have to.
Just got VIII. Will probably still be playing this.
@Alucard83 ys has never had a particularly consistent formula.
Ys VIII is the best RPG I've played on Switch. So looking forward to this one.
@JoakimZ Same, the older ones had a lot of style and personality, but the new ones are incredibly stale.
Call me when they port the Oath in Felghana.
Looking great. I'll probably get it on PS4, however I don't have much time to play it lately (compared to Switch) & loved VIII on Nintendo's system, so we'll see.
@Alucard83 I beat the Japanese version of Ys 9 last year, the whole game doesn't take place in the city. There is still a proper overworld with dungeons and caves and such. Think of the city as a bigger version of your home base from Ys 8, or like Midgar from original FF7.
Makes no sense that the Switch version is being released in the summer of next year. What in the world is taking that particular version so long compared to the other one. It just doesn't make any sense
Still not sure what system to get this on. I really want to support the Switch version, but VIII had some significant performance issues on Switch in certain sections, and IX is a game that even had performance issues on the PS4.
@Amin_Parker Well, the PS4 version just needed to be localized, whereas NIS is actually doing the work of porting Ys IX to Steam and Switch.
@Bl4ckb100d Felt the same way as you and IM a big JRPG fan. Had so many rave reviews and I just can't enjoy it. Not sure if its the fighting or the back and forth through the island. The visual performance hurt my eyes. The other system I play on is PC on a 144hz monitor and I found this game on The switch was terrible to look at. the crafting system was meh. Really wanted to love it
Gee, I forgot about this one! But after loving Ys VIII to pieces, I´m getting this one on arrival lol.
What a year for RPG fans! Ys IX, Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter Stories 2, NEO: The World Ends With You, Shin Megami Tensei V,... And hopefully the next Monolith game as well!
@honshu yeah! I liked the whole idea of being trapped in an island and working with other people to escape, but the part of the story with the girl from another time felt a bit dull and generic to me. I also hated the raids, like the story seemed to be getting somewhere interesting and suddenly that effing bird comes out of nowhere. The whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm currently playing trails of cold steel, very different game really, much more enjoyable.
This looks way too generic for me
Just beat Ys VIII today, so the timing is uncanny. It's no Xenoblade and I don't plan to dive back into the Ys world any time soon, but I'll consider it for the future.
@Alucard83 that could have been just some cinematic art style rather than actual gameplay. This was a story trailer after all. I'm willing to hold out judgment until we get the game and see actual gameplay.
@Zach777 If I remember correctly each story follows the main character but through an isolated adventure. So we're following the same main cast, but each story is basically standalone.
@PoorGeno they said that this was a story trailer. I'm not sure what you were really expecting.
@stache13 ...Oh. Good catch.
@Bl4ckb100d Cold of steel is on my backlog to get through. Not sure if I want to start that or Tales of Vesparia.
