@glaemay Maybe it's just me, but I don't care much about graphics at this point. The original gamecube version already looked good enough to me. I buy games for the gameplay, not for the graphics.
@Ooccoo_Jr I agree, the definitions of "mature" and "childish" in video games are pathetic and need to change. I guess the "Mature" rating for violent games doesn't help this either.
As Warren Spector said: "In video games we define as mature the things that are most adolescent"
This made me realize that I really miss GBA-style graphics, lol, I hope there will be an indie revival as with 8-bit graphics.
Also Zelda II is easily the most underrated Zelda game. It's in fact one of the most influential NES games, being an inspiration for modern indie titles like Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight and Infernax.
@KayFiOS Link between worlds and Triforce Heroes are 7 and 9 years old respectively! Those are old games. And Links Awakening is just a remake of an even more ancient game.
Truth is that Nintendo has not made a genuinely new 2D zelda in a long Time.
@Nintendo4Sonic I don't have an opinion, because I didn't play the game, so I have to trust others. If there was a demo, then maybe I could be convinced to buy the game.
@HOUSE In this case I actually think the game is simply not well optimized. I mean, the switch runs Crysis, Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal, so it should be definitely able to run a 2D game like Ghost Song.
The Bomberman games in the N64/GBC era were so awesome. I wish the series would return to this style of action/adventure/puzzle hybrids, instead of the modern arena-battle games.
I don't want a Switch successor, to be honest. I think the Switch is fine the way it is. I'm not crazy about realistic high-end graphics, and many switch games look beautiful anyways.
@Azuris I agree, Mario looks weird with that wide face BUT I think it's better that way for the movie. I mean, Pratt's voice is also very unusual for Mario so it makes sense to also change the design a bit.
I think it would feel worse if we had Pratt with the regular Mario design, because the association between that design and Martinets voice is too strong, and breaking that association could be even more off-putting.
Too bad we only get Royal and not the original Persona 5. I read that the original is better balanced, because the changes to the Royal version make the game too easy.
The game looks interesting, but too bad it seems to have the same broken healing mechanics as BOTW. You can just spam heal items in the pause menu which makes you almost invincible. Why are modern developers so afraid to make games at least a little challenging?
@Chunkboi79 Some tracks fit the combat better, other's feel at odds with it (IMO). Of course it's also a matter of taste. Just saying that for a game that makes so many references to retro Zelda games I would have preferred an OST along these lines. I think the music feels a bit too futuristic for such a game. But It's not a big deal anyways, I'm just being nitpicky.
@Chunkboi79 Are you referring to my music comment? BOTW actually had separate combat music that fits the action. Besides, I think Tunic is trying to reference Zelda 1 and not BOTW.
I will definitely get this at some point, as I love Zelda I, but the minimalistic ambient music is honestly disappointing. It does not reflect the Zelda vibe and is really at odds with the combat gameplay.
@elvestinkle I agree, even today Zelda II remains a hugely influential game. Many modern favorites such as Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight and Infernax were inspired by Zelda II, I doubt they were drawing from a garbage source material.
@Jeronan Hmm... SMM2 was very similiar to SMM1 at launch, but the updates added lots of new content. Also most Switch owners never had a Wii U, so they wouldn't notice the similarity (just like with Splatoon 2).
Maybe a problem is the mandatory NSO subscription to play other people's levels. Since that's the main appeal of the game, it becomes almost unplayable without NSO, and I guess many people did not want to pay that.
@CodyMKW Which makes me wonder why the developer cannot add official mod support to the Switch version. I mean, some Switch games like Quake already have a limited amount of mods.
The lack of mods is currently the one thing that keeps me from buying the switch version of Stardew Valley.
@BabyYoda71 It took me also a long time to beat Darker Side, but I'm not sure if I consider any part of it actually "hard". It's mostly just punishing, because it's long and you have to restart the entire level every time you die.
It's a good idea to make such a list as nowadays most games are so easy that it's almost hard to find challenging stuff.
However, the short length of this list only proves in what a poor state modern hardcore gaming is.
Also, Tropical freeze does not belong on this list. The secret levels may be hard, and maybe the monkey boss, but the rest is at best moderate. I found the SNES Donkey Kongs harder.
I wonder why does Switch even need two Splatoon games. Nintendo should rather invest their time into the neglected franchises like F-Zero or Starfox, or create something totally new.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Metroid Prime Remastered?
TBH I haven't played it yet, but I am disappointed that for 40€ we a mere graphics update for a 20 year old game.
Re: Switch Online's Game Boy Library Is Slightly Different In Japan
How do I change the color palette in gameboy color mode? On the original GBC I could change it while booting up, I don't see any such option in NSO.
Re: Poll: Would You Pay $70 For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
It depends on the quality of the game. If it is better than BOTW then it may be worth the price. I will wait for reviews.
Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch And Pokémon Continue To Dominate The Top Spot
If the Switch keeps selling like this, we will not see a Switch 2 any time soon, lol.

Re: Random: Zelda Cartoon Writer Admits Hiring Family Members To Help Write Episodes
Nintendo should put an "excuuuse me princess" cameo into their Zelda games, I think it would be pretty funny.
Re: Random: Pixel Artist Reimagines Zelda II For Game Boy Advance
The sad thing is that nintendo actually DID attempt a 3D-Remake of Zelda II - for the SNES no less: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/07/ocarina_of_time_began_life_as_a_remake_of_zelda_ii_the_adventure_of_link
Re: Random: Pixel Artist Reimagines Zelda II For Game Boy Advance
@Gitface I am curious, what are the big flaws with Zelda II? The only major issue I see is the occasional difficulty spike (Death Mountain...)

Re: Princess Peach And Donkey Kong Debut In New Super Mario Bros Movie Trailer
I am not impressed. I just see lots unfunny scenes that pretend that they are funny.
Re: Feature: The Top 15 Legend Of Zelda Dungeons Of All Time, Ranked
I am very surprised that there are no Oracle games on this list.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Frontiers

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Frontiers
It seems to be a very divisive game, I think I will pass.
Re: Review: Ghost Song - A Potent Mix Of Metroid And Dark Souls, But Maybe Not On Switch

Re: Random: Toad Will Also Have A Musical Moment In The Mario Movie
As long as the songs fit into the Mario universe I am fine with it.
It would be nice if the songs were vocal versions of the music from the games.
Re: Random: Hideki Kamiya Echoes Every Nintendo Fan's Wishes For The Switch Successor

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Mario's Movie Voice?
I guess it's kinda acceptable, but compared to Mario's voice in other languages, it is by far the worst one.
Re: Video: Here's What Mario's Movie Voice Sounds Like In Other Languages
Funny how all the voices sound like actual Mario, except for the English one.
Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Teaser Trailer Is Finally Here
I enjoy the visual spectacle in this, but the "humor" leaves a lot to be desired so far. Seems to try hard to be funny without being funny at all.
Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Teaser Trailer Is Finally Here

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition
@Cia There are still many important RPGs missing on switch. Elden Ring? Fallout? Dark Souls 2 + 3? Dragon Age? Mass Effect?
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition
The game looks interesting, but too bad it seems to have the same broken healing mechanics as BOTW. You can just spam heal items in the pause menu which makes you almost invincible. Why are modern developers so afraid to make games at least a little challenging?
Re: Japanese Charts: Splatoon 3 Closes In On 3 Million Copies Sold
With these numbers I don't even think we will get a new Switch before 2025.
Re: Surprise! Skyrim Anniversary Edition Is Out Now On The Switch eShop
@carlos82 I agree. I'm glad we are finally getting some mods on switch, but the price feels just off.

Re: Review: Tunic - Old-School Adventuring With Nods To Zelda, Unforgiving And Ingenious
@BloodNinja Just curious, what is your problem with BOTW and post-ALTTP Zelda?
Re: Anniversary: Dragon Quest V Is 30 Years Old Today
@BloodNinja The mobile version has only one screen. For Switch they just have to change the camera orientation.
Re: Anniversary: Dragon Quest V Is 30 Years Old Today
I would love to have this on Switch. Couldn't they at least port the mobile/DS version?
Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?
@elvestinkle I agree, even today Zelda II remains a hugely influential game. Many modern favorites such as Hollow Knight, Shovel Knight and Infernax were inspired by Zelda II, I doubt they were drawing from a garbage source material.
Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?
I really depends on the player:
Zelda is such a diverse franchise, I think it's impossible to represent it with a single game.
Re: Random: This Super Mario Maker 2 Fan Spent Seven Years Crafting 'Super Mario Bros. 5'

SMM2 is such a great game, especially after the updates. It's kinda sad that it didn't get much attention.
Re: Review: Airoheart - Adequate Adventuring For Link To The Past Obsessives
@GravyThief To be fair, we know almost nothing about TotK yet, it may be different from the BOTW formula.
Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Won't Include Multiplayer
If no multiplayer means a more high-quality single player mode then I'm all for it!
Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch (Again)

Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition Has Been Rated For Nintendo Switch (Again)
@gcunit EDIT: Okay, apparently the Anniversary Edition contains all Creation Club items for free.
Re: Feature: 12 Nintendo Games That Deserve An HD-2D Remake
I love 2D-HD graphics but please apply it to NEW games, like Octopath did. We already have more than enough remakes.
Re: The Hardest Games On Nintendo Switch
@Slowdive I agree, I was actually surprised how many encounters in Dark Souls can be easily cheesed by just running past the enemies.
Re: The Hardest Games On Nintendo Switch
@BabyYoda71 It took me also a long time to beat Darker Side, but I'm not sure if I consider any part of it actually "hard". It's mostly just punishing, because it's long and you have to restart the entire level every time you die.
Re: The Hardest Games On Nintendo Switch
@acgp BOTW actually belongs on the "easiest games on switch" list, you can literally beat any fight by just spamming heal items in the pause menu.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Has Launched His Own YouTube Channel About Creating Games
That's amazing, but I'm surprised that Nintendo allows this. It's as if he is helping his rivalry.
