Street Fighter and Mega Man are both celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year, which is quite a feat. To celebrate both of their birthdays a special fan-made game called Street Fighter X Mega Man will be made available to download on your PC through the Capcom Unity website on 17th December.
Street Fighter X Mega Man was created and developed by Singaporean Seow Zong Hui who naturally had direction and support from Capcom itself. The game sees you play as Mega Man as he blasts through eight new Street Fighter themed levels each one with their own Street Fighter inspired boss. Naturally each boss has a special power to use against Mega Man; Ryu for example utilises his world famous Hadouken attack!
Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA had this to say about the upcoming release:
Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation. This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.
Have a look at the trailer for the game below and let us know what you think. We must warn you though, it's truly amazing and may cause mild hysteria.

So Capcom's strategy was to make us hate them all year and then to throw this at us right at the end? Well, it looks great and it's free, so I'll give it a go.
ha its not the first time megaman has used the hadouken but i am pumped for this!!!!
And this is a free download? Ah, Capcom... you just can't stay mad at 'em. Ghosts n' Goblins was proof!
Wait, an 8-bit game and no mention of a Mac version? #*%@ you Capcom!
Really impressive looking. Too bad it's PC only. Start porting already! I'll definitely check it out and I'll have to sync up the wii motes to the PC to get the right feel on this one.
Incidentally, what IS Nintendo going to do about the VC situation on the Wii U?
Who still has a Mac in this day and age?
The reason it's free is because it's a fanmade game.

Yep, you read that right, if the fans want more megaman games, we have to make them ourselves.
@Linkuini
I sure can stay made at them, when they're playing this off as something they've made themselves, when it's been in development by a fan for over two years.
awesome. just awesome. theres nothing more to say. im totally getting this
They should make it a free download for 3ds too
@Hyperstar96 They never claimed it as their own. They only back it up.
@Hyperstar96, you're mad because they backed up some guys fan game? I guess you would have preferred if they just made the guy cancel the game instead.
I CAN'T HANDLE THESE LEVELS OF EPICOCITY
@turtlelink
I'm mad because they're playing it off as a piece of capcoms work, when it clearly is not, and that the game is only free due to some generous streak from capcom. Both things clearly being untrue.
P.s. Show me one time that capcom has made fans cancel fanmade games. There are plenty of good fanmade megaman games, and they never do.So saying that the game would have been cancelled if capcom wasn't claiming it as their own a downright lie.
The reason it's PC only is because it's actually a fan game that has Capcom "seal of approval." Not that it looks bad, mind you.
I wonder if any other fangames will gen Capcoms seal of approval.

Interested.
@Bass_X0 Lots of people in NA have macs... Myself included.
I don't have a controller for my PC. What's this business about sync'ing your WiiRemotes to your PC?
If Capcom had made this themselves, it would have been pretty cool. But if the best they could muster for Mega Man's 25th was to simply put up a fan-made game, well that's just kind of...sad.
Oh my god so many Negative Nancies on here. Guys, it's a Mega Man game and Capcom isn't developing it. That's a great thing - have you seen the two Resident Evil games they produced this year for consoles? I can't wait, cause after all people - the game is FREE.
"This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up"
Mega Man Legends 3 would have symbolized that capcom isn't a bunch of peasants. Screw this cheap, crappy game.
is it just for pc or are they going to release it for consoles as well?
this is a ROM Hack of a Megaman game .. capcom had nothing to do with this, it goes to show show much capcom dont give a poo about Megaman that they have to get other people to make there games ..
So? Not for gamers with a gaming machine?
Ugh, PC. There's always a catch with these guys.
Oh we'll, it's free and MEGAMAN!
@Bass_X0 About 11% of the computer-using population.
yeah it seems they could have thrown a 5 dollar price tag on it and sold it as a download on almost every console
So... What was that about keeping expectations in check?
Now we just need a fan translation of Gyakuten Kenji 2 to send to capcom so we can get that released >.>
Please, oh please bring this to a Nintendo console!!! Any system, any price... I'll pay! THIS LOOKS SO FLIPPIN RAD!
/dies
whoa that was bad-ass. I too hope it's easy to get onto a Mac. I wouldn't use a PC to even check the time for fear of it crashing, but then I don't game on a PC so I wouldn't bash it for that. shouldn't be hard for someone to port it over.
@Hyperstar96 Although this is a fan-made game, Capcom has provided weekly feedback on builds that have led to extensive revisions and QA treatments. Essentially, Capcom played the role of publisher. It's like Lego: City on Wii-U, how Nintendo gets their name on it because they assisted in the role of publishing that title, supporting development through development feedback and professional build testing, marketing promotions, and getting the product to consumers.
Capcom picked the game up, funded it, and tested it. It was amazing when SEGA did it with the Sonic CD remake, but when Capcom does it, it's wrong? I'm personally excited to play this.
@HarmoKnight Don't get into this argument, there ARE gaming PCs.
cool im getting this
@Linkuini Who said no Mac support? Just because it says PC at the end it just means computer, not windows only. I would be surprised if it was Windows only, and even if it is there is conversion software, right?
That looks pretty cool, I'll just be happy just so long as I can get it to work with my snake byte controller.
Initially, I assumed it was going to be just another Street Fighter game with Megaman, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was the other way around. A Megaman game with Street Fighters in it.
This looks interesting. Glad to have Mega Man back-sorta! I'm looking forward to their 'celebrations' planned for 2013. The franchise needs a full comeback.
So, wait, they don't give us a proper Mega Man anniversary, so they deficate this out last minute and piggyback it to one of only a couple of their other franchises they care about in Street Fighter?
Boooooooo!!!
This is a step, Capcom, but don't think you've redeemed yourselves yet.
Wii U, 3DS, I dont care just PLEASE bring it to a Nintendo console so I can play too! TT__TT
no just no
@Retro_on_theGo
The guy developing isn't a licensed console developer, so he can't release it on a home console. I don't see what the problem is with a PC release(unless you own a Mac). Just get yourself a PC gamepad(or a converter), they're not that expensive.
@MrWalkieTalkie
The guy making this isn't a licensed console developer, so they can't release it on a home system. Or if they did, it wouldn't be free.
Holy freaking crap. This looks great! Too bad it's on PC only. I would have loved for it to be on the eShop, XLBA, and PSN.
This looks very nice!! Probably gonna connect my laptop with hdmi to tv.. Now i only need a NES controller via USB xD LOL
Download!!!DOWNLOAD I SAY!!
Hm. Not sure to be happy or unhappy with Capcom. On one hand, Capcom is promoting a Mega Man game that actually looks good. On the other hand, it's a fan game, and the only reason it's linked to Capcom is because they decided to advertise it.
I'm gonna chalk it up as a draw; the game looks good enough to warrant advertising, but Capcom really needs to actually make a Mega Man game the fans want.
Here's some additional reading some of you should do.
http://www.themmnetwork.com/2012/12/08/capcom-opens-up-to-ign-about-sfxmm-and-the-blue-bombers-future/
Smh... So Capcom has fans making games for them now, lol? Shots to Seow Zong Hui for his hard work on making on awesome game. However, I still say "Capcom, move around." And I'm still smh @ Mega Man Xover, hehe... c'mon now. While it's in the wind, I still say no MML3 == No Love.
ha its not the first time megaman has used the hadouken
Actually it is! X and Mega Man are two different characters.
well i'll definitly be trying it out fanmade or not, it doesnt matter unlike some people , anyways ya guys ranting for it to come to consoles this the game isnt a system breaker so your pc should be more then ready to handle it
@WaveBoy
mm 11 ftw
@moomoo No, Capcom's strategy was to promise awesome things, release the world's crappiest Megaman port, and then let a fan create something awesome for them. The best that can be said of Capcom here is that they didn't stand in his way.
@Bass_X0 They're just upset because they still don't know that a Mac falls under the definition of "Personal Computer"
@WaveBoy What is wrong with you? Rom hack looking game? It looks better than the Megaman game Capcom made this year. And in fact, with the little emphasis Capcom is putting into gameplay, any fan with basic programming knowledge can churn out a better game than them these days.
Also, Jogurt was taking a jab Capcom, so he's probably not on your side.
how is this a step toward anything but sheer laziness on Capcom's part? if it's not Xover laming up iOS, now it's legitimizing fan games so that they still don't have to do a damn thing for the franchise. wow, what a 25th anniversary.
Well if it's free, then I suppose i'll give it a try. But as others have said, it does appear that Capcom is being lazy..
Free........... yet still probably won't play on my 'stuck in the stone ages' PC.
"We funded development of the project, provided creative input and direction, handled QA, marketing (including the great trailer created by Capcom-Unity’s own Chris Antista), sorted out legal clearances and naturally, handled distribution via Capcom-Unity.com," Svensson said. "I don’t want to downplay in any way, Zong Hui’s contribution. He was the creative visionary behind the game’s concept and execution. He was amazingly responsive all through the development process to our feedback, often turning builds into us every couple of days for more feedback. The iterative process was among the best I’ve seen."

Yup. Sure sounds like Capcom is being lazy, and not like "fans" don't want to like anything Capcom puts out. .
At least this game looks good, unlike Xover.
@bezerker99
Try playing Rockman 7 FC or Rockman 8 FC. If you PC can run those, I bet it will be able to run this.
@theblackdragon To be fair, considering how unexpectedly awesome this is for fangames as a whole, I'm willing to give Capcom a pass for a moment.
This looks cool, I wish I could play it on my Wii or Wii U as a free download. I'll probably dl it. I haven't played a game on my computer since I was 10 or so... That's pretty cool that they officially certified a fan made game.
I do agree that Capcom needs make something cool for Wii U(or any consoke I guess), since they have neglected Nintendo for a while.
So Capcom won't put it up as a free download on consoles or handhelds since it might cost them money?
If this were on both eShop's for Free I would be celebrating but as it stands it is nothing more than a token.
...meh.
I have a Mac too, would have wanted this on it. But that's ok I have Boot camp ready.
Also this would be great as a eShop Exclusive
Capcom do Megaman U or XU
Looks cute
Wait so this was the "news" they were talking about a few months back?
Sigh. :/
Good for the guy who made the game (whose name does not even show in this trailer), and lame for Capcom. So a fan can make a better, more interesting game than them, and put a lot more love on it.
Smells like a stinky PR stunt. They will most likely forget about him after this.
Very strange that Capcom pushes a fan-game, and that it is free. But it does look really cool (and it's free), so I might try it!
I will ignore all the "weird" stuff Capcom has done if Legends 3 comes back. Mega Man Legends 3 was the ONLY reason I got the 3DS originally....
