Re: The Switch Mini Isn't Real Yet, But These Mock-Ups Sure Are Convincing

brandon9271

@neufel Nintendo could release a "Switch TV" and sell it for $150-200. Nvidia already has a Tegra X1 based Shield TV so it could be easily done. I doubt they will though because Nintendo tends to not do stuff that consumers would like. (Switch VC, anyone?) They're quite stubborn about such things and I've pretty much given up on Nintendo lately

Re: Fan-Made Prequel Metroid: Rogue Dawn Released On NES

brandon9271

@KIREEK nintendo is so backwards thru would never do something that cool. We're lucky if Nintendo releases their OWN games on VC.. much less fan games. So sad that the entire ROM library has been available for decades on the net but Nintendo won't even let us BUY most of them. Year after year they turn down free money

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Offers Hope for Those Dreaming of Mother 3, Metroid and More on Switch

brandon9271

@aaronsullivan They could make another Zero Mission type game or remake some of the older games in HD. I'd like to see the Prime trilogy in HD and portable. That would be a fairly easy thing to produce to hold people over. Seriously, Nintendo could have TONS of games available for Switch this year just by releasing HD ports of classics. This would help with Switch sales and those higher adoption rates would encourage third party support. Then by holidays 2017 or early next year have Metroid sequels ready to drop.

Re: Random: Raspberry Pi Hack Takes The Wii U GamePad One Step Closer To Switch

brandon9271

I wanted to do the exact thing but with a Wii motherboard instead. There's a portablize-me hack that makes it run with minimal components and you can actually CUT parts of the pcb off to make it small. I never did it because only certain revisions of Wii hardware are easily trimmed and i figured I'd destroy a few motherboards in the trimming process. Also, I'm lazy.

Re: Report Focuses on Nintendo Switch Touchscreen and IR Pointer on Joy-Con Controller

brandon9271

I just want to play games with a gamepad and buttons. It worked fine for GameCube and has been working fine for Sony and Microsoft. I did enjoy playing Metroid Prime with the Wii remote. It made aiming so much better because I'm a mouse keyboard guy (I hate FPS games with an analog stick..) however, the meat and potatoes of console gaming is with a controller on one screen. All the other stuff alienated developers and put Nintendo in the mess they're currently in. The Switch just needs to play games on the go or at home. The more crap you try to shoehorn in the worse it will be. A jack of all trades, master of none is not what Nintendo needs right now.

Re: Report Focuses on Nintendo Switch Touchscreen and IR Pointer on Joy-Con Controller

brandon9271

The Wii remote has a IR camera in it and the "sensor" bar wasn't a sensor at all. It was a completely passive device that simply put out IR light. This is how people were able to use candles in place of a "sensor" bar. Emitter bar would have been a better, more accurate name.. Anyways, for this to work the joy cons would need a camera where the shoulder buttons are and i doubt that's the case considering how small these controllers are.

Re: Gallery: Take a Look At These Classic Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Grip Designs

brandon9271

@PorridgeParlour +1 on that Dpad idea! I think that's really a no brainer for Nintendo or some 3rd party to do that. Hell, 3rd parties could go nuts making all sort of different configurations to slot into the Switch. Personally, I want a touchpad to replace the right analog for FPS games. I'm a PC guy so this would be super nice to have. As a matter of fact the grip thingy that the controllers slot into should HAVE a touchpad in the middle like some Android TV devices have. That would be super cool for navigating menus and would open up the possibility for RTS type games to be more easily play on TV. Basically, with that addition the Switch could be all the things that the Steam TV promised to be and MUCH more.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience

brandon9271

There were very few games that really took advantage of this on Wii U right? Other than inventory screens or maps it wasn't really anything groundbreaking. All the Wii U gamepad did was add cost to the system that could have been better spent on horsepower. Plus, it alienated developers because like every Nintendo system since the Wii, they had to do something special just to port their games over. Now with Switch, you have traditional controls and one screen. That means much more 3rd party support and that's a good thing. I would just about guarantee we will see replacement "joy-cons" for stuff like rockband/guitar hero and maybe... maybe a trackpad type device that could slot into the right side instead of the right analog for us PC guys who prefer the precision of a mouse in FPS games. Probably not from Nintendo but a 3rd party could easily do it.

Re: Say Hello to the Nintendo Switch, a New Concept for Gaming

brandon9271

@BenAV If the controllers could lock in the top and bottom edges they could fit dual screen games in landscape mode.. maybe Nintendo has thought of this Probably doesn't matter though because from the looks of things there is no touchscreen. Touchscreen would complicate things too much though as that feature would only work when it's not docked. Nintendo is going back to their roots of just games with a gamepad like Sony and MS. I think that was a great decision because now 3rd parties will be swarming to the Switch. Portable Skyrim and Zelda? Holy crap. This thing is going to SELL

Re: Nintendo Appears at Apple Conference to Announce Super Mario Run

brandon9271

This doesn't bother me. If Nintendo wants to do mobile spin offs or phone apps that tie into the main game like Bethesda did with fallout 4 that's great. I really don't even care if Nintendo is exclusive on their own hardware. I just want to play their game. However, Apple is the LAST place i would choose to play Nintendo games Android,PC..xbox.. anything but IOS for me personally.

Re: Retro-Bit Generations Game List Contains Capcom, Irem And Data East Classics

brandon9271

@World that's very true... but there are easier ways to enjoy emulation. Android TV, home brew channel on Wii, etc. I can't get how any serious retro gamer could do without a device like that. I've got emulators on my phone, PSP,PS Vita, my PC, laptop, Wii, Raspberry pi. I even had a NES emulator on my PSone back in the day. lol. I'm nuts over this stuff.

Re: Super Mario Maker Is Coming To 3DS

brandon9271

I can't believe all the butthurt. This is a smart move on Nintendo's part. They've been trying to sell Wii U consoles but it's just not happening because of NX. Everyone who hasn't bought a Wii U is waiting, myself included. Time to cut their losses and port some Wii U games to the much larger audience of 3DS. Nintendo merged the handheld and console development teams together long ago so games being shared across both was bound to happen and will continue moving forward. NX is unified and exclusivity will end

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

brandon9271

@rjejr The large majority of Nvidia's revenue comes from selling chips. Sure, when a new video card comes out they'll make a reference design but after that 3rd parties take that and run with it. Nobody can say with certainty that no more Tegra powered mobile devices are coming. Tegra is used in many tablets and phones from Acer, Asus, Google, HTC, HP, SGP, Toshiba and many others. To assume that Tegra for mobile is dead when it's been used in so many devices just doesn't add up to me.

Re: Rumour: Potential Nintendo NX Details on Screen Size and More Do the Rounds

brandon9271

There's a major problem with these rumors that nobody seems to be addressing.. If requires touchscreen input how can I do that if the handheld is in the dock across the room?! If the game is designed for motions controls how will I play the game on the bus with the NX in my hands and controllers attached?

It seems to me that if the NX has all these different modes of operation game developers will either have to design the game to support ALL of them or certain games will only be playable at home while docked and others only when handheld. The other option is that developers wont make use of the extra functions at all to avoid the problem all together.

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

brandon9271

@rjejr i agree. I don't see how this confirms anything. IF the whole purpose of shield was to develop the Tegra tech in hopes of drawing in a big customer like Nintendo then i could see why Shield would no long be needed. Maybe Nintendo was using Tegra in dev kits as a place holder while still negotiating with Nvidia and other companies for the final design. Nintendo may have signed a deal with Nvidia so they then cancelled Shield 2 to focus on NX.. OR Nintendo went with a different chip vendor and Nvidia considered this a defeat and axed the Shield 2 to focus on using Tegra in self driving cars

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

brandon9271

@graysoncharles yeah, i knew that Android, Linux and windows 8/10 all have been ported to ARM and x86 but i didn't think it was that simple for games and apps to be ported to both. I'm no software developer so i could be wrong. I do know that with game engines they often optimize the code in assembly language and i would think that having two different CPUs with two different instruction sets wouldn't be idea. This won't matter as much for games using Unreal 4 or Unity since those engines have both been optimized for ARM and x86 as far as i know. This would mean that the two systems couldn't use the same cartridge/disc on both. Well, i guess they could put both the ARM and x86 code on the same cart.. hmm. Dammit Nintendo just tell us already! lol

Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports

brandon9271

@renaryuugufan92 it seems a little odd that they would unify the handheld and console development in one division but then have two separate hardware platforms (x86 and ARM). I'm not saying it's impossible but If they want to attract 3rd parties this doesn't seem like the way to do it. I also don't agree with folks who are saying we'll get an AMD console and an Nvidia handheld. That just sounds counter intuitive

Re: Report Points to Nintendo NX Manufacturing Ramping Up in Q4 2016

brandon9271

@gcunit lol. Can they run two x1 in SLI mode? 😉 Seriously though, the X1 will be two years old by the time the NX launches. It's a 20nm chip based on Maxwell architecture. I'd be about 99% sure the NX will have a 16nm, Pascal based Tegra SoC.. Nvidia is being very quiet about their upcoming Tegra chips and future Shield products. I think this is why. We know they're working on it though.

Re: Scott Moffitt is Leaving Nintendo

brandon9271

@Action51 you can read anything you want into news like this. I could say it's good news because Nintendo is shaking things up and restructuring so they can go all in with NX. It's still just wishful thinking. We really know nothing. :-/
