@Jiggies I'm sure Nintendo would love to sell us two different systems, but I think fans would complain because it would be like the Switch vs Switch Lite except it would remove the portability of the Switch). I think fans would just complain and argue that Nintendo should've just released one system that can do both, and use a sliding scale of quality depending on home vs away. I mean, the Switch already has dynamic resolution, etc.
I really don't see any way Nintendo can go back to a purely home console. They have already integrated their home and portable game divisions. The technology has caught up to the point where a portable system would only be slightly technically inferior to whatever home system they would put out (since they won't put out another tech monster and sell it at a loss).
The only reason they might not do what would essentially be a "Switch 2" is because Nintendo has always been reticent to retread the same idea. On the other hand: Gameboy--Gameboy Color--Gameboy Advance was a threesome simply iterating on the same basic idea, so maybe they view the Switch more as a portable system that happens to play on TV, meaning they'll be more content to just upgrade the internals, put on a slightly different coat of paint and call it a day.
On the other other hand, the DS jumped to the 3DS by adding a giant gimmick on top of what was otherwise just an upgrade to the internals and a different coat of paint. So maybe we'll get some gimmick slapped on top of what would otherwise just be a Switch 2.
Maybe a second try at VR? Maybe a Switch-like system that slides into a headset ala the LABO VR kit? It would have to be optional (but for the few Nintendo games that they would of course release that almost single-handedly justify the gimmick).
NINTENDO SWITCH VR:
Play it at home, play it on the go, play it in your head!
Got the original NES game in the late 80s. My mom bought it for me at a yard sale, if memory serves. Cart, box, manual were all in perfect condition. Been a fan ever since.
Had mine since release day and it's pretty banged up (having three boys to share it with will do that).
The kickstand is gone, the grill over the vents are all broken and it's pretty scuffed around the bezel. The SD Card reader only works sporadically (I need to look into a replacement), and I'm on my fourth pair of joycons.
It's hard to remember how long it took me to beat Super Metroid for the first time. Granted, that was back in 1994. It probably took me 30 hours, with a lot of that featuring me wandering around, being lost, shooting things without much care for progressing.
I'd say an average, leisurely paced, non speedrun of the game would take the normal player about 15 hours.
Metroid Dread can probably be finished under the same circumstances in less than half that time. The game is great, and I'm sure a lot of work went into interconnecting the world and laying out the progression, but I wish it was 50% larger.
I can't stand the "actually this thing that is universally agreed upon as bad is actually GOOD!" hot takes that pop up on the regular about all kinds of things. Same thing happened with Skyward Sword.
It's nothing more than attention ***** using contrarianism to get people to look at them.
It won't be Waluigi strictly so they can make him a launch character in whatever the next Smash Bros game is for the Switch sequel console five years from now or whatever.
I think it would be helpful to compile a list of the NES and SNES games that (A) Nintendo could release, but (B) have not yet/won't release for whatever reason.
It's one thing to say "I wish the Ninja Turtles games were on NES Online!" but it's totally different to say "Nintendo sucks for not releasing the Ninja Turtles NES games on NES Online!"
So really, what NES/SNES games does Nintendo have the rights to release that they haven't yet put on the platform?
It's an entirely separate discussion to talk about GBA/N64/NGC support, etc.
I've probably logged more hours playing Tetris and Pac Man than any other game, because it's nothing to just turn it on and be playing within two minutes.
Bigger games like Majoras Mask, Resident Evil 4, and Super Metroid I've replayed a bunch, but they take longer to beat so they're not games I can just sit down and start playing when I only have an hour to kill.
And then there are games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, which require a firm commitment of time. I love them and love replaying them but as I get older they get harder to go back to because my time is less abundant than it once was.
Honestly, the system is selling so incredibly as is that they shouldn't rock the boat until there's simply no more life left to squeeze out of it. Only then should they release a "Switch Pro," or whatever, and it should be a full-on upgrade/next-gen replacement (backwards compatible with the OG version, of course).
3 and World are my only 10s, but 3 takes the cake.
The bite sized levels are like little bursts of creative adrenaline, with no levels being alike.
Mario World has the bigger, more secret filled levels, tighter controls, more versatile moves, and a grander scope, but it still just feels like a souped up Mario 3. I prefer the original.
That being said, Mario World has the best soundtrack of the 2D games (tied with Galaxy for the overall prize), and the last good soundtrack in a 2D Mario game. That castle theme is perfect.
From the look of it, you play through the course(s) as Mario, in a traditional sunshine and easy-paced way.
Then, Bowser drops, the sky goes dark, and you have to play the same course(s) again, this time with Bowser causing havoc. I assume that ends with Mario becoming Super Saiyan and fighting him.
Lots of folks are overanalyzing the title of the article.
No one thinks 3D Land has been literally forgotten. It's just a game easily overlooked and didn't leave a big impact (despite being the 3DS' first big killer app), probably because it was bested by 3D World almost immediately.
Unpopular opinion: 3D Land/World felt more like what a 3D version of 2D Mario should be.
Mario 64 never felt like a Mario game. It was too radically different in terms of gameplay. Not that it wasn't revolutionary. Just that it didn't feel like "A Mario game in 3D." More like a 3D game featuring Mario
My problem is the system refusing to recognize the right joycon is connected. It finds the joycon but registers it only as detached even though I can slide it in and get the click sound and little graphic on the screen. It still acts like it's not mounted.
I hope the people tweeting "Miyamoto retire" will tweet a "nevermind" response once they get around to Galaxy.
Sunshine is a buggy, hot mess of a game. I've said that for years despite how en vogue it became to call it "the best 3D Mario game." It's not even the best 3D platforming game on the Gamecube.
Galaxy, however, is sublime and continues to hold up to this day.
Glad I'm not the only one who hates the All Stars look vs the NES original. Everytime I see pictures or play All Stars, going back to when I had the game on SNES, it always looks like a SEGA Genesis rom hack.
If both sides really committed to this, and aired competing commercials that hyped up their own machines and insulted the other, they could start a wave that would propel both systems to big sales numbers.
People would eat up the nostalgia and get caught up in the wave.
I mean, if the WiiU was coming out NEXT year, then fine.
But this sucker is dropping in 5 months. Where is Retro Studios? This is the biggest stage to show off games before the holiday release. Unless there's a special Nintendo-only conference (like a Spaceworld) that I'm missing...
NES = Revolution (D-pad...digital control with your thumb) SNES = Evolution (shoulder buttons) N64 = Revolution (Control Stick...analogue control with your thumb) NGC = Evolution (wireless with WaveBird) Wii = Revolution (motion...3D control with your movements) WiiU = Evolution (touch screen on a home console) next???CANT WAIT

Re: Feature: The Real Songs That Inspired Iconic Nintendo Music
Using Holst's Planets is almost a cheat code.
You can't listen to it and not hear the influence it had on John Williams, especially his Star Wars compositions.

RE4 for the Wii is the best ever, and one of the best of all video games.
Re: Fired Nintendo Worker Comes Forward With An Account Of Their Dismissal

I can't wait till the next NOE president, Frank Ganondorf, is hired.

Re: Review: Wave Race 64 - A Thrilling Racer That's Still Deeply Impressive
Wave Race is one of the few Nintendo games that was not improved by the sequel. The N64 version beats the Gamecube version in basically every way.

Re: Feature: 7 Reasons For Picking Starter Pokémon, But How Do You Pick Yours?
Very simple: I see "Duck with Hat" I pick "Duck with Hat."

Yes. Same here.
Game was and remains amazing. I still play it on dolphin because Nintendo hates 90% of their own history
Re: Soapbox: Music Just Don't Come Spookier And Sadder Than Zelda: Majora's Mask
OOT had more variety to the music. It felt like the music of a world.
MM however had stronger music to fit a theme. All the songs felt like they were part of the same movement.

Re: Reports About Super Mario Bros. 35 Being A "Rip Off" Of Last Year's Fan-Made Battle Royale Simply "Not True"
Imagine saying with a straight face that Nintendo is out of ideas.
There's a lot to be annoyed with but their ability to churn out incredibly inventive games and concepts is not one of them.
Re: Feature: The Best, And Worst, Nintendo Commercials Ever
For me there's a top three.
The Mario 3 commercial with the multitudes calling his name. I remember that game from my childhood.
The Smash commercial where they're all beating each other up. That's the commercial I remember from my teenage years.
The "Wii would like to play" commercial. That's the commercial from my adulthood.
